Bed and breakfast Maison Papaye

We loved our stay here! We stayed for 3 nights as a base for exploring the south. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by Louie and Lipton (two small lovely dogs), shortly followed by Marie and Phillipe. We were handed a drink and had a nice conversation to introduce ourselves, why we were here and to learn a little about the property and the hosts. ||The room itself was spacious, air conditioned and also had a fan (you can alter the settings of both). They worked perfectly. There was a lovely balcony area too. During our time here we utilised the pool and enjoyed the lovely breakfast every day.||Marie and Phillipe helped us organise excursions (e.g. swimming with dolphins) and gave us an idea of where to eat in the local area. We don’t speak any French, so really appreciated both Marie and Phillipe making the effort to communicate with us as often and as pleasantly they did! ||The property and garden is beautiful. We were often joined at breakfast by small birds which we enjoyed taking pictures of.||All in all would 100% recommend as a base for the south of Mauritius.

We had a better week than we could possibly have hoped for at Maison Papaye. La Gaulette is a fantastic base from which to explore the beautiful Southwest of Mauritius and I honestly don’t think you’ll find a better value option than here. The breakfast each morning was delicious and the host was super friendly and helpful with tips about the local areas. I honestly can’t recommend this place more highly.

Marie-Helene and Philippe have been excellent hosts at this lovely colonial style house - with all mod cons. The La Baule was our room with an extensive balcony and air con. |I was amazed by the size of the swimming pool - very long!|Lovely healthy breakfasts. |M- H arranged for me a walk at 7 Cascades with an excellent guide and also a boat trip with lunch to Benitier Islands| We booked for 4 days and enjoyed the experience so much we stayed for another 4. |Cashpoint, supermarket and good eateries are within walking distance and, in particular, we would recommend Frizzy.

Maison Papaye is very well situated in La Gaulette, with restaurants and a good supermarket within walking distance. It is difficult to rate because we absolutely loved our week's stay there but there were some minor negatives too.||Our room on the first floor was spacious and being on the corner had a huge balcony from where you could look over the extremely well thought out, pretty garden to the sea and the mountains around Black River. The colour combinations of the flowers were amazing as were the frequent visits from passing parakeets. We also enjoyed the pool, which we mostly had to ourselves and the short drive to Le Morne beach.||Our hosts were charming (we wished we spoke French so that we could also chat to Philippe as well as Marie-Helene) and breakfast was, like in most places in Mauritius, large and delicious, particularly the pancakes.||Clearly the guesthouse is ageing (our WC had a noticable wobble) and not everybody would appreciate the large collection of momentoes sufficiently to use the 'communal living area'. Our room, under the tin roof, did get very hot but cooled off once the AC kicked in. And we did have a very welcome fridge. Parking was slightly tricky and sometimes involved juggling cars around.

We have just come back from 4 weeks at Maison Papaye..this is our 4th stay in this amazing b&b. The property is fantastic..immerse in lush gardens..with great pool. The rooms are very nice and very clean..very comfortable beds, tastefully decorated with air con and ceiling fans! The breakfast is fantastic..fresh fruit salad, pancakes, tea, coffee, cereals..fruit juice...to enjoy in the most relaxing and incredible veranda overlooking the garden, accompanied by interesting chats with Philippe and Marie Elene, attentive owners who will do their best to help you with everything you need during your holiday. All the food is freshly prepared with care and love by Marie Elene and Rosina, amazing house keeper. ||If you wish to eat at the property, you can arrange for an evening meal...you will be served autentic, delicious creole dishes freshly prepared with the best ingredients...||If you want a home to home stay in a little corner of paradise then Mayson Papaye is the place for you. We love Mayson Papaye and we will be back soon.

We have revisited Maison Papaye this year and find it to be, as before, a beautifully appointed house with an immaculately maintained garden. The house and garden are walled and there are lovely mature trees so it is very private with both sunny and shady spots. The pool is a good length and very clean with sunbeds and towels.|The hosts, Philippe and Marie Elaine are warm friendly people, who make their guests feel welcome and at ease. |The breakfast is delicious and includes freshly chopped fruit salad, proper tea/coffee and a selection of breads, cakes and pancakes.|There is a retinue of maids and gardeners to maintain what is a lovely property.|Marie Helene and the maid speak English well; I can't understand the review which queries this.|I would look forward to staying with them again.

We had a fabulous week long stay in maison papaye. The room was lovely and a great sheet of local restaurant and activity recommendations was provided on arrival. They were so kind and friendly to us and even booked some activities for us! Breakfast was also delicious and it was the ideal location to expire the beautiful south of Mauritius from (our favourite part of the island- so peaceful, relaxed and stunning scenery). Would also highly recommend the day trip swimming with dolphins that they organised for us! Would recommend maison papaye to anyone!

Marie-Helene is the ultimate host. She is so welcoming and helpful. She provided tips on where to visit in Mauritius. She organised a hire car which is advisable as there are no taxis easily available in the area and taxis are not cheap in Mauritius. The breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. Also they were really good with food allergens. The room itself was big and has really good air conditioning. I don't understand the previous reviews, this was by far the most comfortably air conditioned room I stayed in on my trip and this is in comparison to 5 star hotels. The house is well located to visit many of the sights in mauritius. My only disappointment is that we never got to have any dinner with Marie-Helene and try home made mauritian food - more guests are required than were staying. For warm hospitality, comfortable accommodation and a good location to base yourself from, I would highly recommend maison papaye.
