The 6 Best Hostels in Athens (Updated 2025)

"If you need to do some work while you're in Athens or you're a digital nomad, BedBox offers fast Wi-Fi throughout the entire hostel and a ground-floor café and bar that's ideal to park yourself for a few hours; I appreciated the free, fast Wi‑Fi and the on-site bar for working. The hostel has four- and six-bed dorms and some beds are double size so you can spread out alone or share with a partner; the bunk beds have privacy curtains, reading lights, and electrical outlets." - Matthew Kepnes

Well deserved high ratings. My first hostel stay and stayed for two nights in shared six person room. Lucky I had very considerate and quiet roommates. Warm greetings and positive interactions with the staff. Clean reception and kitchen. Safe and convenient neighborhood. Bag drop off available before and after stay. Didn't find out about living room in basement or rooftop until after checkout.

Bedbox Athens is conveniently located, just a short walk from where the X95 airport bus stops, making it an easy choice for early arrivals. The price is affordable, and the staff are generally helpful. The central location is perfect for exploring Athens on foot. However, the cleanliness could be better. The shared washrooms were messy during my stay, and the air conditioning in the room wasn’t working well, leaving a slight smell. Overall, it’s a decent budget option if you’re looking for convenience and value, but there’s room for improvement in maintenance. #AthensHostel #BudgetStay #TravelSmart

I’ve stayed in Athens multiple times over the years. This hostel totally surprised me, wish I found it sooner. Convenient and suitable for everybody. I highly recommend here it’s in a great location with everything you need. Super friendly staff, I forgot the name of the girl who checked me in, but she had such a friendly personality and treated everyone with the right welcoming attitude. Can’t fault it the beds are good and clean.

Stayed here several times and always was happy! Big, comfortable beds are truly separated. Nice bathrooms with hot water and very well-equipped kitchen. And very, very polite and helpful people - besos para Sofia!

I have traveled to 14 countries so far and stayed in many hostels, but this one is the best. The host is very kind and friendly and the place is very clean and quiet. This is also the first hostel I’ve been to that provides free water. I’ve visited many hostels, but the people I met and the time I spent here were the best. If I visit Athens again, I will definitely stay here.

It's a really nice and beautiful place, very relaxing. You can relax with a refreshing bath after sightseeing in Athens. It's worth a visit. It's more than a wonderful place, with breakfast, coffee and cake every morning, and excellent staff. The service is great, even more than great. The place is close to everything

The location of this place is unbeatable, being right in the heart of Monistiraki. It's just a few minutes walk (easy walk) to the subway/metro which takes to straight to Piraeus or the airport. It's close enough to the action of Monistiraki to allow you to walk everywhere (restaurants, cafes etc) within a couple of minutes, and the Acropolis within 10min, but is off the main drag enough that it's peaceful in the evenings. The hostel and surrounds felt safe, even late at night and for a woman traveling solo late at night and very early (before sunrise) in the morning. I found the staff to be really kind and helpful. The attached cafe downstairs is a bonus if you want to grab a coffee before heading out and the kitchen seems pretty well-equipped. I didn't realise that I had booked a bed that had it's own space (divided by curtains) so this was a really nice surprise! In fact all of the beds in my room had the same, except mine was right next to a covered exterior deck area which was really nice - it felt like a hotel room. The luggage storage was big and secure, enough space to fit a big suitcase I would say, though I only had a small one plus a backpack with me. I found the bed and pillows comfortable. No towels provided but you can pay to rent if needed. The bathroom was decent and I didn't have to wait at all to use the toilet or shower. There is one bathroom per floor and only one bedroom per floor, so I imagine there is rarely an issue with availability. My only issue was one that could not be helped by the accommodation, and that is I had a snorer in the room. Even earbuds and music/podcast didn't help. So understand that the sections of the rooms, while private, are not soundproof. If this is going to be an issue for you or you really need to be assured of a good night's sleep, consider a hotel instead. Besides this, I can't fault the place as far as hotels go. It's great value for money at just €9 and €19 respectively for the two nights I stayed.

I had a great stay at this hostel! The location is perfect : very central, so I could walk everywhere easily. There’s a grocery store just 2 minutes away, and a café right on the main floor, plus lots of restaurants nearby. The staff deserve a huge shoutout for being so kind and helpful. I had an issue with my airline and didn’t receive my luggage until 48 hours after arriving in Athens, and since I was then traveling around the islands, the entire team went above and beyond to help me sort everything out. Special thanks to Aphrodity, Sofia, Nina, Constantina, and Maria for their amazing support. Thank you all for making my stay in Athens so enjoyable! I will definitely be coming back!
