"Whereas Sugar is perhaps North Carolina’s most well-known mountain, Beech, as locals call it, might be its favorite. Though the vertical drop is a few hundred feet less than Sugar (830 feet), the mountain itself is taller. At over 5,500 feet, Beech boasts the claim of not only being the highest ski area in North Carolina, but the whole of the Eastern United States. With seventeen trails and eight lifts, there is plenty of room at Beech for everyone. And Beech Mountain boasts excellent night skiing, with the lifts running until 9p.m. daily during the bulk of the season. One of the best parts about Beech and Sugar Mountains are their proximity to one another. Just forty minutes separate the mountains and, if you’re looking for a mix-it-up kind of weekend, you can easily ride both."

I do enjoy snowboarding here but you HAVE to speed the lifts up. They are more capable than being slowed to like 1.5m per second. They do have a very good park for what it is. It would just be nicer if you didn’t have to wait 10+ minutes to gain around 1000 feet of elevation gain.

My family had never been skiing before. My 3 teenagers immediately hit the slopes with friends and had a great time. I am old and not athletic so I started out on the bunny slopes just on my own. I got pretty frustrated with myself and was about to quit when an instructor came up to me and helped me out enough to show me the basics. I had not paid for lessons, he just saw me struggling and helped me out. I really appreciate his help! It gave me enough confidence to keep going. We would love to return and next time I will be paying for lessons. All the staff we spoke to were very helpful and friendly. Our experience at Beech mountain was definitely a highlight of our winter!

Just got back from Beech Mountain, and I’m already planning my next trip. The slopes are amazing—something for all levels, with perfect snow conditions and well-groomed trails. The staff was super friendly, and the rental process was quick and easy. After skiing, the lodge was cozy, and the food was delicious. The vibe here is relaxed but still upscale. Overall, a top-notch resort with great skiing, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere + AMAZING parking… such an easy process!!! Highly recommend!

We had an amazing weekend skiing, and it was an absolute blast! We arrived bright and early at 8:45 AM, and luck was on our side with parking—we snagged a great spot in Lot 1. The rental process took about 20-30 minutes, which was smooth and efficient. The staff there have a tough job, no doubt—managing tons of eager skiers while keeping things running smoothly is no small feat. That said, we’ve never had an issue, and it’s clear that understanding the process really makes all the difference. Kudos to the team for their hard work and dedication to keeping things on track!

Don’t buy a season pass! No value! No benefit other than ski pass. They had a no-name band playing and were charging $25 to get in. I told them I just wanted to order some food and use the restroom, that I would wait outside on my food and they were extremely rude. They being the employees. Same treatment up at the top if you go get drinks. They will close a lift that literally forces everyone to go to the other lift to the top of the mountain and wait in really long lines. I’m certain you guys make enough money to pay a few people to run a lift when the crowds are as long as they were. Definitely not customer oriented and it’s pretty much a this is what you get and we don’t care if you like it or not. LBGTQ whatever whatever letters are tacked on the end of that now all over their website and Google page. I’m scared to take my kids here now. One look at half the staff and you would probably be scared to take your children here as well. I wouldn’t want to let them out of my sight or let them go use the bathrooms here. Don’t waste your time or money Sugar is right around the corner and better in every way.

Beech Mountain is a good choice for snowboarding, especially for beginners, with its well-maintained, easy runs. However, one downside is the long lines, especially on busier days, which can be a bit frustrating. Despite the crowds, the beginner slopes are a great place to learn and progress at your own pace. While there are more challenging runs for advanced riders, the focus on beginner-friendly terrain makes it a good spot to build confidence. Just be prepared for longer waits during peak times, but overall, it's a fun place to snowboard!

We had a large group of friends travel to Beech Mountain for a short ski trip. There were 4 families (total of 19 people). I reached out to the Group Sales team and they were so helpful in planning our trip. We booked a place to stay outside of the resort, but Will and Davis were amazing to work with to book our lift tickets and meal passes. I'm so glad we did because we were snowed in at our rental place the first day of our lift passes. I reached out to them and they responded immediately that we could shift the days once I was on property. It was easy to do and I'm sure it would have been challenging to work through that individually across 4 families. So if you're going with a large group (15 or more) definitely consider booking through the Group Sales team!

If you go, get there before it opens/early or stay on the slopes because it has terrible parking as it’s very limited. Often though they have long lift lines, especially if not opening the additional lift. Overflow parking, which isn’t close enough to walk takes a good 20 mins (if they are running a shuttle) as they have to deal with traffic issues too. Otherwise the slopes are nice. A friend bought a season passes this year will not be going back either. Cool town for sure but the resort needs to figure out better parking.

Yelp
Amazing good first ski resort but don't go on Saturdays they are busy a lot of Saturdays

Yelp
January 7th visit. There are not a lot of ski resort in western NC, therefore weekend is sooo crowded. Also North Carolina is having warm winter for a couple of years now, so there was barely any natural snow. Snow making machine running 24/7. And the day turn worse when 1 lift was broken so total lifts go from 3 to 2. Imagine the wait time and crowd. Since lift ticket is expensive, I try to ski all day. During night ski, because of the snow making machine blowing snow and the trail lights reflection, looks like a snowstorm out there. you can't see with deep tinted ski googles. Also the snow is not really snow, it is like ice pebbles and it hurts if you don't have a ski mask. That's all my complains . Positive is that the slopes are wide asf so you won't run into anyone.

Yelp
Went on February 22nd 2025. Celebrating my fiancées birthday before I leave for basic training. We booked the tickets for both of us to do the 8pm-9:45pm tubing. After calling a few times it appeared we would get more time than we did. We got told at 9:10 that we only had ten more minutes. We were told no more runs at 9:20/9:25. No one else was there as a customer and no line for the tubing runs. We did have fun while there but feel we should have had the service for the other 25 minutes we paid for. As I looked over at the mountain I see snowboarders and people skiing being taken back up on the lift while I'm walking back to my car. We got to our car at the time we were scheduled to be done, we parked 25/30 minutes away via walk.

Yelp
We visited for a day trip over the holidays, excited for a great time on the slopes. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by poor customer service and disorganization. After waiting in line for 45+ minutes for our first lift, I was suddenly yelled at by lift employees because my pass wasn't working. As a woman standing in a long line of about 100 people, being publicly called out like that was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. The issue? We reused a pass from last year and had it recycled a pass per their guidance, and we even had the receipt to prove it--but that didn't seem to matter to the staff. The frustration didn't end there. When I went to customer service and waited another 30 minutes to explain how we lost valuable time from our 8-hour pass due to their mistake, I was met with indifference. Instead of offering any real resolution, the staff simply said, "Sorry, we can't prorate or refund your ticket, but I can scan you a new one." And when I asked for a supervisor? Conveniently unavailable. At 2 PM on a Saturday during the holiday rush--how is that possible? Since there wasn't a manager I had to fill in a complaint form to be submitted by "Bella" in customer service to this so-called manager..... "Lesley" and we were told we would get communication back within a week about our form - nothing... I even have a photo of the complaint if any Beech Mtn Employee would be so kind as to reach out. It's been over a month since this happened with no resolution. The lack of accountability, rude treatment, and complete disregard for customer satisfaction was unacceptable.

Yelp
We loved this ski resort. We have always gone to the Sugar Mountain one down the road and wanted to try something new. The day we went it was snowing and on the drive up the mountain (take it slow) I booked our lift tickets online for pick up. This is such a huge plus that other resorts in this area don't offer. You can also reserve your gear and I wish I had done that b/c by the time we arrived the lines were very long. I took my son downstairs where you get snowboards and gear only to find out we needed to first go to another place and pay that is located outside at a stand. Once we got everything squared away there for payment, I took my son back downstairs and got his board, boots and helmet quickly...maybe 20 minutes tops. My husband wasn't as lucky for ski gear. The line for him took about 45 min to an hour. While we were waiting for him I went back downstairs and rented a locker for the day. It was so nice that this was all electronic too and payable via card instead of quarters like other resorts. It was easy to access everything, all of our stuff fit great in a medium locker and by the time we were done with that and my husband was done with his gear it was time to send them up the mountain and me to head to the brewery onsite. The lines were very long at the lifts and I think they ended up only going up 3 times which isn't usually the norm but with the crowds it was just nuts. I'm usually not one to say but if they are selling tickets ahead of time they should know when they have hit the limit and cut it off. I liked the different food options onsite and areas to hang out outdoors. There was a main dining room which was packed in the morning I'm not sure in the afternoon. I couldn't find a table or spot to sit in here at all and it was just me. There was a pizza food truck outside near the brewery which we go for our son's lunch and he liked. The brewery I'll review on their page b/c that was a madhouse. The ski store on site was very small and sparce when I visited. I usually purchase something branded at every resort but I just didn't see anything we would like so I left empty handed. Overall we would come back here again and hopefully on a less busy weekend so we could enjoy other things like tubing (which was sold out) and also enjoy more skiing time and less lines.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday. Slopes were very good. Snow blowers didn't stop all day and were annoying. Lines are ridiculously long Horrible service in cafeteria not enough staff took me 30 minutes just to get 2 burgers 3 fries and a chicken fingers. They should rename it "stand in line 99.9 percent of the time mountain" don't come here

Jon J.

Yelp
Love beech mountain because they over free sledding on the way up to the resort and they blow snow just in case it doesn't snow enough. It gets pretty busy during the holidays and more expensive. Be aware how much things cost cause they will try to charge or over charge at the ticket booth. Cheaper on weekdays and evenings to go. They add ski lift cards. They start first scan. Food is over priced but it's a luxury.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
The parking situation at Beech is ridiculous. I arrived to the mountain at 9:30am and the lots were already full. I was directed to the overflow parking about 3 minutes down the mountain. Also full. I circled through a couple of times and decided to go back up the mountain to try one more time to find a spot. Nothing. I tried calling around about a shuttle or car service. Nope. Frustrated but determined to ski, I went back up the mountain a third time and crept through the lots again. 5 HOURS LATER, I still had nowhere to park. The website says lift tickets & equipment rentals are non-refundable, so I'm out $150. I ended up spending the afternoon watching football and drinking at the Blind Elk in downtown Banner Elk.

Yelp
We enjoyed the evening 6pm snowtubing, a really fun family atmosphere. Pros: - Easy to make our reservations in advance online, then walk up to the kiosk to print your tickets, then through the gate where you scan for the tubing area. - Our kids LOVED it as this was our first time snowtubing and our youngest had not seen snow before. They had a snow machine at the top making snow which our girls also enjoyed. - single and double tubes, we had fun racing each other and in different family combinations. - the conveyor belt ride back to the top was also fun to look around, appreciate all of the lights, and the moon rising. "Opportunities for improvement" include: - The area between exiting the top of the conveyor belt and the start of the snow tubing runs could get backed up when there wasn't a worker at the top to help, and it was also not well lit (the 6pm slot is dark and this area involves climbing up some icy stairs... they honestly need a spotlight there). Mostly Fine for the young and agile but there is no way my parents (ages 70's) could have handled that transition in the dark - even though they are healthy enjoy for the snowtubing ride itself. - 2 of the 6 lanes were closed, I think because the snow / ice level at the bottom of the run had gotten too low. Maybe they need another snow machine going. - there was a young woman who tripped in front of me getting on the conveyer belt at the bottom. The flooring is not tacked down on the edges and her foot got hooked under it. All in all we had a GREAT time!

Yelp
We arrived at the resort at around 11 and the parking lots were full. We were directed to the overflow parking but it was hard to find. When we got to the overflow parking lot, we waited in line to get on the shuttle. It took a while but eventually we got on and went to the mountain. I forgot my helmet and tried to rent one but the rentals were all sold out and I had to wait in a long line for someone to tell me there were no rentals. We got a lesson from the instructor Matt, who was really nice and did his job well. He was really patient and kind. We skied some more and it was pretty great. When we were done and ready to go back to the parking lot is when the real nightmare started. We waited in line for the shuttle and then we got news from some random person who didn't work there that one of the shuttle's brakes gave out and there was only one shuttle working. This was not ideal but it's fine, so we waited some more and more in the freezing cold with so many people in line behind us. It took them so long to get the shuttle there. When the sun went down it was really cold and we felt unsafe. No one from the resort was there to give updates. Eventually we got on a bus and ended up fine. And made matching bracelets for the 4 of us that said "beech plz". Here's my two cents about everything.... I'm one of the two moms in the group I was with my friend my kid and my friends kid. There was a point where I actually thought we were going to die. The shuttle was a shit show! Get your acts together people. It was like being a contestant on survivor fighting for a seat on the one bus they had running for the hundreds of skiers and snowboarders all trying to leave at the same time. We entered the line to leave at 5 pm and didn't get on shuttle until 6:40! Our kids were crying, we conspired with other people in the line on a class action lawsuit as we froze our fat asses off. And also there was a lady in front of us that belched like a jacked woodcutter and said god bless Mercia afterwords that was pretty funny. Also please give Matt a raise he deserves it Summary: skiing was good good instructor good snow good coffee shop sports shop lady was nice transportation and communication of issues was piss poor do NOT go onhere on Martin Luther kind jr weekend

Yelp
Not a bad little mountain. Kids had a blast in snowboard school. Conditions not ideal yet but it's early in the season. The amount of TRASH and LITTER below the chair lift from the base to the top of the mountain is DISAPPOINTING and DISGUSTING. Resort management needs to do a better job policing this and picking it up. Turning this beautiful mountain into a trash dump.

Yelp
*Review based off the off-season (Spring through Fall; non ski/boarding review). We first came up back in 2020 during peak pandemic and like everyone else at that time was looking for outdoor activities. We have come up numerous times since as it's such a nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The primary ski resort is at the bottom of the mountain where you can get burgers and (very crispy) fries, and beer. The thing to do though is take the scenic lift to the top, reaching the Sky Bar. The tickets are very cheap IMO at $15/person (takes you up and down for one trip). Once you reach the top, you hit the sky bar that serves beer and cocktails and has plenty of seating/standing areas to enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountain. It's really amazing and you definitely could just relax and stay up there enjoying the view all day. Would highly recommend

Yelp
I planned this trip as a Christmas present to my now ex-girlfriend and I was going to cancel it until I remembered how much I loved snowboarding (plus the non-refundable costs of the Airbnb & lift ticket also convinced me not cancel). So what better way for therapy than to do what you love, right? And as the saying goes, I turned lemons into lemonade and brought my daughter along (she's 8) and turned this into her birthday present (rather than buying her a bunch of crap she doesn't need). I can't say what Sugar Mountain is like but Beech was recommended by my therapist because he was a former NC local. He said that's the one he always went to. We drove from Nashville, TN for a 5.5 hour drive. I'm an amateur snowboarder and am not good by any means, but I can go down intermediate slopes without falling. My daughter has never been but as a dad, it's my job to get her into new things so she can grow as a little person. On top of the ski equipment rental and lift ticket, I also paid for a 1 hour private lesson for her (which is first come first serve on the day of). It was advised to come at 7:30 AM to ensure your spot. We arrived at 7:45 and waited in line forever only to end up getting a 1 PM slot (I wanted one of the morning slots). Because my daughter is a beginner, we spent most of the morning on the bunny hill (Play-yard) right next to the ski school office. I knew the basics of skiing and my daughter got the hang of it by 1 PM. Her instructor, Lee, tested her for 2 runs on the bunny hill and decided she was good enough to practice on a real trail. Those taking ski lessons can bypass any line on the Magic Carpet/ski lift). So she got about maybe 5-7 runs on the next level green slope (Freestyle) and he even took her up a quad lift to the Blue Intermediate (Lower Shawneehaw). By the end of the lesson, she was able to slowdown/stop, turn, ski without poles, and didn't fall. I was impressed (thanks Lee)! Overall, we spent 2 days on Beech Mountain and loved every minute of it. I normally snowboard alone but it was nice to have someone go with me. We spent the last day going down the trails together and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Here are a few tips: 1. This place gets CROWDED. Most of the lifts were running but it was still a 15-25 minute wait to go on the lift. 2. Get your lift tickets early, lines can be long. 3. Rent your gear early, they can and do run out. 4. If taking lessons, regardless of private/group, get there early. I'm debating on taking her one more time before the ski season is officially over for NC. Her spring break is mid-March and that's the cusp of it being over. I'll probably come back to Beech vs Sugar just because I'm used to it.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Recently, I went to bike here, and I had my pass torn up for exiting on the near side of the lift. We were told to cross all the way to the other side of the chair to get off, when we said this was unsafe because the lift knocks you over, we were told to just "run down the ramp, that's why it's got rubber on it" If you've been, you know this is a pretty steep ramp to try to outrun a lift chair on... the lift operators were NOT having our rebuttal and said we were rude. This was enough for them to revoke a yearly pass... They were the ones who started swearing at us and blaming it on "horsing around." All in all, Beech will never get my money again. Not in summer, not in winter. Never.

Yelp
I read some pretty bad review prior to our trip here - and some research helps in the long run to plan things out. We planned ourselves a week long Christmas vacation - which turned into two days on the mountain thanks to the polar vortex and broken water pipes in our air BNB. We had purchased our boys snowboarding lessons as soon as the opportunity opened. The resort was super responsible in calling us to let us know they were cancelling their lesson due to the Mountain closing (see: polar vortex). They offered us a reschedule or refund. We rescheduled. They called the night before our rescheduled class to let us know our eldest was too old for the snowbird class and would be cancelling and refunding him. They advised I could show up first thing in the morning and get him group snowboard lessons, which I did. All of the instructors were amazing. The skiing was a good since there was real snow on the ground. The resort area was cute. The lines for the lifts in the morning were great, but as the day went on they got busy, along with the mountain. I've been skiing since I was 2 and spent most of my time skiing in the Rockies. This is not the Rockies, but it was nice. The resort is smaller, the runs are smaller, it's crowded on a holiday week in the afternoons - is this not to be expected? Why would you say it's a bad resort for these expectations? The lifts worked, the employees were nice and helpful, and we are grateful we had the time on the mountain we did. Thank you for a great Christmas vacation, even though it was shorter than we wanted!

Yelp
Let me start with pros so I won't sound like a pessimist. PROS: the resort has a nice CONCEPT. It's a village town with a brewery, shops to buy equipment (you can rent it with your ticket:CHEAPER) and a big cafeteria lounge that looks towards the slopes with huge glass walls. Beer was good, the lady at that place was the only good customer service I received in the entire resort. CONS: customer service is terrible. Everywhere practically. They ran out of helmets by the time we got our tickets @6:30pm so didn't get any. The place was PACKED! On a Sat high season. We went to get our equipment and had threw away the receipt which we needed and were NOT told to keep? Then after getting boots and clothes the lockers are $12 and it smells and is dirty in there. Getting our snowboard was the worst they had one guy giving them out and he didn't know what he was doing. He was taking about 15 mins per board to set it up foot wise. He was asking me how to do it?? Anyways he was struggling line kept growing and none of the other employees helped him just walked past and everyone seemed to be in a terrible mood no joy it was a buzzkill really. After an eternity I got my board which was not set up correctly and tried to snowboard. There were tons of people so practicing was almost impossible without hitting someone. At one point my board flew away from me and dropkicked a small girl. I went to go get fries from cafeteria same experience . Line was so slow. You'd expect they'd have their shit together since it so popular and it's a Sat? Anyways girl took forever to count 5 coins and had a huge line. The whole resort looks run down. So if you're a boujee person it's gonna be a let down. Personally I wouldn't go again. Not worth the trip or $$. Staff needs a raise or motivation.

Olivia S.

Yelp
On 1/15 (MLK Day) it snowed more than the resort and local officials anticipated and it did not seem that they had any planning measures in place; so, many cars got stuck in the parking lot. The roads going down the mountain were then closed by the police, but no one bothered to tell the cars in line. The Beech Mountain workers weren't able to tell anyone what was going on. We heard through the grapevine there is even a possibility of being stuck in our cars until the next day at noon. Incredibly poor planning and experience.

Nat A.

Yelp
We went for a concert. Super fun venue. Make sure you get a lift ticket and go have a drink at the top of the mountain. It gets a lot colder than you think at night. Over dress.

Philip J.

Yelp
Purchased 2 4hr ski lift tickets and rental equipment on 12/28/23 at 5:30pm with hopes to ski until closing. Was able to go down the slope once and while we were standing on the "Load Here" line, the ski lift electrical transformer box blew up in front of me and my brother at roughly 7pm. 2/3 lifts were inoperable after the transformer blew (only the most difficult slope lift was running) and all associated ski slope lights were blinking on and off. Was told to go to the administration office for a refund by the lift ticket sales office. At the administration office, many including myself were told to fill out a complaint form but no refunds or rain checks would be given even to those who were not able to use their lift tickets at all. Truly sad to see a business do absolutely nothing to offer customers a resolution to faulty equipment that put customers in danger and stranded others on a ski lift for hours. Will not be giving Beech Mountain any business in the future.

Yelp
Well.... Let's start off with booking our tickets, we booked them yesterday afternoon (Dec 22, 2022) for today Friday December 23, 2022 at 12:00pm. We booked four tickets at a cost of $152.00, all was good. Today, we wake up to snow on the ground, and think this is going to be great. We look at the website and they have cancelled skiing and snowboarding for the day, however, snow tubing is going to be open. We get in out 4wheel drive vehicle and head out to the resort. Goin up to the mountain, the roads were extremely dangerous, with cars and trucks sliding off the road, and reports encouraging drivers to stay off the roads, as there are life threatening conditions in effect. We do get to the top of the mountain and literally cannot see anything, not even the roads or where to go. We attempt to call the resort, but have no cell service. At this point we decide to turn back and head back in the interest of safety and our lives. Going back down the mountain was a truly unbelievable experience. We had our vehicle in low range and even with transfer case and both differentials were locked, we encountered multiple issues of sliding and almost went off the road in one turn. We spent almost 120 minutes trying to get back down the mountain, as waiting for cars involved in accidents, one rollover with a fire and another 2 wheel drive truck trying to navigate the terrain. On our return to the house, I called the resort, and let them know that even though we had made it to their parking lot, due to the weather conditions, we felt unsafe for our time today, and asked for a refund. They essentially said TOO BAD!!! We have a no refund policy and that is that. I asked if we could use our tickets from today, on Monday December 26th. I was again told NO!!! After much discussion they did offer a 10:00am time slot for December 24th, which is not possible for us, due to prior commitments. I hope that the $152.00 they stole from us, makes them happy, because we will never, ever attempt to visit them again, and will discourage EVERY PERSON we know from doing so as well. AVOID THESE THEIFS!!! WHILE THEIR POLICIES MAY BE ADEQUATE FOR NORMAL NO SHOWS, WE WERE NOT NO SHOWS. WHEN THE WEATHER IS UNSAFE, WITH LIFE THREATENING CONDITIONS, AND THEY CLOSE THE SLOPES THEMSELVES, THEY STILL EXPECT TO KEEP YOUR MONEY. SHAME ON YOU BEECH MOUNTAIN RESORT. I have attached two pics showing their splash screen warning and a screen grab of their webcam, validating my statements... UPDATE - AFTER BIENG ASKED TO CALL BACK AGAIN, I WAS GIVEN A REFUND OF OUR TICKET PRICES...

Abby M.

Yelp
My visit to Beech Mountain was less than stellar. This place might be great if you're new to skiing, but they only had 2 lifts open and long lines. The runs are super short so we spent more time waiting to get on the chairlift than we did skiing. Also, both of the women's restrooms had stalls that were out of order. The restroom by the parking lot had only one working stall and a long line of women needing to use it. This resort seems to care more about making money than it does on the amenities for their guests. Save your time and money and go somewhere else!

Asher S.

Yelp
The resort is very polished, great snow and comfy rentals, their staff can be cold sometimes especially in the rental department. The resort was having a busy day when we were there and when I asked for smaller skis they would not allow for any exchanges. Now this policy is okay, but it's how the gentleman said it, like he had no more time for anyone or anything. I was teaching some buddies of mine how to ski and it became very difficult for us to be safe so it really put a damper on what was supposed to be a great day. If you want better staff, go to Sugar Mountain just down the road, they took really good care of my friends and I. Sure, their rentals were incredibly uncomfortable but their staff and slopes more than made up for the inconvenience

Wonderful place! Parking hard to find get there early took over 30 minutes! We did the tubing had to go to the check in and get tickets and they let us do it from 2-4. Definitely book in advance they were sold out a lot of people were there and were unable to do slopes or tubing! Make their own snow so it worked perfect because it was about 50 degrees. Very cute ski resort! Have rental shops for equipment all around and on property if you book in advance I believe! Defiantly recommend but call and try to plan it or you may not be able to do the things they offer. If you can't pre plan call and the operators are very friendly and helpful as much as they can be :).

Yelp
Fantastic time snowboarding for the first time. I made the mistake of jumping in with our classes and got injured but the next day I got lesson from James T and wow what a difference. He was very friendly and had great attention to detail. If you have the opportunity I would definitely recommend requesting him.

Yelp
Would give it 0 stars if I could waited 2 hours to park the stuff is so rude and not helpful they where out of rentals and would not refund our lift tickets go to sugar or app don't wast your time at this shit hole

Emma S.

Yelp
It took us an hour to park. The lines for the lifts were literally over a hundred people at a time. The administration office staff was completely rude and unprofessional. We did not stay and we will never be back. Sugar mountain is MUCH better!

Yelp
Love it love it... We had some clouds in view but still. We did some short trail and this mountain is just great to visit. I am sure mountain biking here is a dream. Fresh air and right down the hill. Beech mountain missing some good place to eat.

Yelp
We went yesterday, a Wednesday, to avoid the crowds. The back slopes are closed and the lift disassembled, one of the two lifts to the top was closed, all of the lifts are slow-speed, lift lines are very long. Everything is poorly maintained and old. As a result, you can ski about 5 minutes then spend a half hour or more to get back up the lift. And that's on the least crowded day of the week. Even the lockers are priced double the other ski resort in town. This place has been getting worse for years and is now at the point that it's just a waste of time and money. We won't be back.

Shannon B.

Yelp
DON'T GO!!! Save yourself money and the heartache. If you have never been skiing don't start with this place. They have unethical practices. You prepay for rental equipment and they don't have your size or poles which are included in the rental agreement!!! Waited in the cold for over 2 hours for a shuttle and then an hour on the shuttle. Terrible customer service. They don't give refunds so basically stealing your money when they are ill prepared! If you really want a good skiing experience spend the money and go to Colorado or Utah!!!!

Yelp
We did the scenic ski life tour. At the top there is a bar and a look out deck. You can walk around to the start of different slopes and get 270 degree view off of the mountain top. In the summer they allow downhill mountain biking; I noticed 7 different trails. There is a bike shop, ski shop, restaurant and brewery at the entrance to the lifts. 5-stars because you cannot beat the view.

Yelp
Never again will we visit this resort. Purchased lift tickets and rental equipment online a couple days prior to arriving. The signage or directions to lift ticket counter, ski or snowboard rental was non existent. There were lines everywhere and no staff informing you where to go or answer any questions with the lack of signage. The real jewel was the unbelievable lines to get equipment. We waited 2 1/2 hours to get ski rentals. Absolutely unacceptable. If you took the money online for a rental reservation you have a responsibility to provide the equipment in a reasonable amount of time. Run. Far away from here.

Yelp
Usually love beech mountain, arrived today for the $15 ladies night ski advertised on the website and was told they're not currently doing that- $66. Black diamond was closed (including the bar at the top of the slope we were excited for) then all slopes other than 1 green slope lost power, leaving hundreds of people to one slope, and was told admin would not be giving any type of refund.

Yelp
Awesome skiing! The blue slopes are a little harder than what I was used to in West Virginia. That said, I'm a fairly confident skier, so these were awesome. The only 2 problems I had were the crowds and the lack of available runs. No blacks were open. There were like 15 minute wait lines for lifts. Again, awesome place, just a few things.

Yelp
First-timers a Beech Mountain, and we had a great time. Planned the boo a surprise ski/snowboard trip for his birthday, and he loved it. On our way up, we contacted the resort because we were unsure about a few ticketing options. Thankfully the gentleman that answered the phone was accommodating and suggested we get the half-day price which allowed us to enjoy the slopes from 12 pm - 9 pm versus my initial plans of 9 am - 5 pm. We were already arriving by noon, so this would give us more time to enjoy and come and go as we wish. So we arrived at the resort by 11:30 and checked in, grabbed all our gear. We decided to check into our Airbnb so we wouldn't have to worry about that later and could enjoy the slopes. I will say during the check-in and gathering of our boots, poles, and helmets up and down the stairs in those boots are a PAIN! There's gotta be a better option, but other than that, everything for us was smooth selling. I would suggest a pull-up mask versus the loop masks. It's so much easier to pull up down when wearing a beanie's helmet while enjoying the slopes and lifts.

Yelp
A quick disclaimer for those who have skied anywhere out west, or even in the Northeast: the skiing at Beech is NOT the same ... not even close. That may seem obvious, but skimming the overly abrasive reviews for this decent and well-run North Carolina resort makes we wonder if some people had the wrong expectations going in. No, Beech isn't Park City, or Breck, or even Winter Park. But for a ski resort in the American South, it's as good as it gets -- and that makes it worth a visit. Just two and a half hours from Charlotte, Beech Mountain is a doable (if somewhat long) day trip from the Queen City. COVID protocols mean lift tickets and rentals must be purchased ahead of time, making check-in generally fast and efficient. The ski rental process, however, seemed overly complicated, and the area where you pick up skis and boots was WAY too small for us to get fitted with our gear. There's a locker room on the lower level of the main building, but this location could also have been better thought out. Once you navigate the cumbersome rental process, though, the experience gets much better. Beech has 4 lifts accessing basically six trails, three of which are designed specifically for beginner skiers. Lift 1 provides access to a terrific run that's just challenging enough for novices, while still being fun for those who are more experienced. It was the perfect trail for my teenage daughter to build confidence her second time skiing, without being TOO boring for Dad. If you're ready for more of a challenge, Beech's four Advanced trails should be enough to keep you on your toes. My only real complaint was how SLOW the lifts were. Most of Beech's quads and doubles look like they're 20 years old, and while they seemed perfectly safe, you could almost finish reading (or perhaps even writing) a short novel on your way to the top. The amenities at Beech are nothing to get excited about -- there's an ice rink, a tubing hill, and a restaurant with generally forgettable food. Skip it and drop in for a burger and some tasty high country beer at Beech Mountain Brewing Company, conveniently located near Lift 5. While inside seating is frustratingly limited here, the beer was good and the food edible. Like the rest of Beech Mountain Resort, it's as good an experience as one can expect from a ski resort in the South.

Yelp
Make sure you read the fine print of the emails that are sent to you after purchasing ski lift tickets... you must have a signed waiver and actual paper tickets before you can ride the lift. they would not give us a refund after the lift operator told us it was too late to ride the lift. the lady we got tickets from told me she was going to mail the head people on our behalf because she did not know how to refund online purchases. i was then told to call a phone number the next day to see if they would do a refund. i called the next day and the woman that is in charge of the ski lift tickets (supposedly) told me that it was our fault and i could not receive a refund. do yourself a favor and do not book anything that involves dealing with anything Beech Mountain ski lift related. these people are idiots.

Yelp
I don't go to the trouble to leave reviews unless I had a miserable experience. My first 1 star review in at least 2-3 years and only second ever. Lousy experience from start to finish. Really wishing I had read reviews before I came. I went to Sugar Mountain yesterday and it was a blast. I've also been to snowshoe on a holiday weekends well for reference for my experience. Not so much here. First frustrations was the rental line. We got there at about 9:30 so I knew the lines would be longer, but it took about 1.5 hours to get my boots. Zero social distancing, most people not wearing masks, and ZERO enforcement of it. Next issue was fitting boots. I'm a very tall and large guy so I know fitting can be tough, but I've been to both snowshoe and sugar and I had no issues with my boots. I typically wear 11.5 but it was way too tight and cut my circulation off. Had to go up to a 12.5 because they apparently only carry half sizes (10.5, 11.5, 12.5, etc...who does that)? Still fit okay but was pretty tight. Not to mention how many times I almost wiped out on the ice so many times everywhere around due to how bad of grip they have. Finally was ready and by the time we finished getting through rentals, every ski lift line had at least 100 people per line waiting with the main green/blue one to the left side of the mountains probably having close to 200. Zero social distancing and many people not wearing masks. Apparently because you're a ski resort and outside you get to ignore social distancing just because the governor doesn't have restrictions. If I had to guess these lines were easily 30-60 minutes long for a simple 2-3 minute ride down the mountain. I left because this would not be fun. Don't even bother asking for a refund because there's zero circumstances they will issue you one. All they will do is quote the governors orders and claim that you can go on one of the less crowded lifts (there really aren't any) which I can't do as a beginner. For a mountain this small with so limited of runs, there should be a much smaller capacity. They're always going to sell out on a weekend so it's not like they will even care about this review and it will make a difference, but want to at least hopefully save somebody the miserable Saturday experience I had. I'm sure this place is okay on a weekday where the crowds are actually appropriate during a pandemic, but I'd recommend looking elsewhere on a weekend. Next time I'll spend the extra money and longer drive to actually enjoy myself at snowshoe.

Yelp
Went here for two days as beginner snowboarders on Friday 1/28/22 and Saturday 1/29/22. The experience was awesome, but definitely could be improved! Arrived around 1:30pm and needed to rent snowboard equipment (board, boots, helmet) and get slope tickets. Everything was going good, except the fact that they ran out of adult helmets and also mens size 10-11 shoe. The shoes aren't that important, but the helmets are! Luckily, we actually did get everything we needed since someone right in front of us was returning 2 helmets and we just took those. Especially considering that we saw a girl get seriously injured and lay on the ground for ~10+minutes after falling on her helmet-less head... Unclear whether she even wanted a helmet or not, helmets really should be enforced - it's just too dangerous! Suggestions: - The rental equipment process was pretty confusing, but it wasn't too bad. We just made sure to return everything on time. However, actually renting the equipment was a pain and the communication between staff wasn't the most reliable. They were all saying different things.. - Maybe have some staff shovel the stairs? It's pretty slippery and could be dangerous. - Really enforce helmets. I saw too many people being slid out on stretchers!! While I'm unsure of what exactly happened, head trauma-related injuries are incredibly alarming. - Have a limit of people on the weekends. I went on Saturday and it was INSANE that snowboarding was 100x more stressful since everyone was everywhere, running into each other. - Make sure the ski lifts work? There were a few that didn't work.. - Have a better system for the ski lift lines, it was chaotic and people weren't sure what line they were standing in. - Lastly, have SIGNAGE on the slopes!! Some lifts take you to the top of multiple slopes and if you don't have the paper map with you, you might just go down a hill that's too advanced for your level. Overall: It was a fun trip as I enjoyed the aspect of snowboarding, however, in the future I most likely would go to a different mountain

Yelp
There's no better way to escape the monotony of staying quarantine than escaping to nature. I feel so blessed to live in a state where I can flee to the mountains and learn how to snowboard for the 1st time in my life! Beech Mountain is a perfect wintery oasis seated among the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina. While taking Covid seriously, they also continue to provide top-tier service and instruction even during these uncertain times. As this was my first time ever snowboarding, I opted to take a lesson from their very affordable "snowboarding school" on-site, which undoubtedly ensured my safety and success for the rest of the weekend! For only $25 each, I and my friends received an hour of instruction from the ever talented Lindsay Fletcher, whose encouragement and effective instruction boosted our confidence and established the basics we needed in order to shred on the slopes! We spent the first bit of our first day mastering the basics on the "Playground", a gentle bunny slope with minimal grading that helps beginners learn the ropes of snowboarding and skiing. After just an hour and a half there, however, we decided to take the lift halfway up the mountain to try our hand at some real snowboarding, and boy was it a blast! Beach Mountain blows their own snow out onto the slopes, always ensuring enough covering that you'll always have a soft landing, especially during the daylight! Falling was nearly as fun as the ride itself, as long as you fall correctly! By day 2, we were shredding all the way from the top of the mountain! I doubt that I would've been comfortable enough to go down from the top if I hadn't taken a lesson the day before! With weekend day passes starting at $72, and half-day passes starting at $34, Beach Mountain made such an enjoyable, safe, and affordable weekend getaway for my friends and I!

Yelp
Maybe have radios to communicate when to stop the lift... maybe in between frozen guests rather than when a GEYSER of water is shooting up UNDER the guests? Just a thought. I think I'll stick to west coast skiing.

Yelp
Stellar day up at Beech Mountain. I'll be the first to admit, I don't review often, but yesterday was exceptional, literally from top to bottom. Our day started with a smooth, quick and easy transition from the ample parking area to the ticket window and directly to the seemingly brand new quad lift. Friendly, helpful and courteous staff were easy to find, and having not skied up here in years, that was a pleasant change from a typical southern ski area experience. The snow was very well groomed, and with 100 percent of the mountain open, coverage was impressive. It's easy to see (and feel) that Beech Mountain Resort has made numerous off season improvements in the mountain operations department. Kudos to those boys and girls toiling day and night to keep things looking good, and running well, it's abundantly clear that this mountain has invested in the right people and proper infrastructure enhancements to maximize snowmaking opportunities. On slopes such as "Robbins run" it was easy to see that the staff has worked to eliminate the double fall line this mtn is known for.... and that hard work made Robbins run and the oz run my personal faves on this trip. The bar at the summit offered a welcome break from the occasional wind gust at the very top, and the bartender was efficient, and quick to offer a beverage of choice, or a slope recommendation. My homies and I were pleased to see that face masks and covid protocols were in place and being followed. Crowds have typically been unappealing to me, and nowadays I'm more leery of them than ever, so I came on a weekday, and the lack of lift lines was a welcome reward. My take aways were that in the years since I've been to Beech Mountain, this place has invested in new lifts, improved snowmaking and lighting, and has created an atmosphere where you really get a resort feel. The "village" and grounds felt welcoming, but not gaudy. The staff seemed adept and knowledgeable. The quality of the snow was impressive, and in reality that is whats going to bring me back.... ideally tmrw.

Yelp
The staff here is absolutely horrific. We accidently purchased an extra ticket miscounting. We brought the error to the attention of the head of HR there and she offered no sympathy or help. After pointing out we all had passes and it was an extra she couldnt have cared less. When we said we were unhappy with the service she proceeded to take our photos and have security have us leave. But not before uttering racial slurs at my asian friend. Ive been coming here 10 years. Have home here. I will NEVER return. The bathrooms had mold. The food was terrible and its several hour wait to eat. A security guard pushed my pregnant wife to the ground. We are considering suing the establishment. Save yourself the disappointment. Go to Sugar

Yelp
A quaint winter wonderland nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Beech did a great job at quenching our thirst for snow this weekend. If I was comparing this mountain to the west I might be forced to drop a couple of stars from this review but let's be honest here - mammoth charges $169 for a weekday ride which gets you a 2 day pass + a night session and $25 left over to spend at the bar at Beech. Not too shabby. The amount of terrain to ride at beach is TINY in comparison to any mountain I've ever ridden on. But it fit the bill just right. Chair 6 had the shortest lines and gave me a few options at the top on how my ride down would be. The snow on the days I went wasn't spectacular, but also not terrible. It s is one of the hardest things for a resort to control - considering that making snow requires a certain type of weather and natural snow only comes when it wants. Here's the thing I noticed though- when I rode the first lift up on Sunday morning very few of the trails were groomed properly. This made the ride a bit nasty due to chunks of ice catching edges for a good portion of the way down. Another little surprise about this mountain: no utility benches! Wanna change the adjustment on your bindings real quick? You'll need to clunk your gear into the sports shop, and all the way in the back they have a couple of loaner tools. Pretty weak setup considering how busy they get (and how cheap it would be to sprinkle some benches around the base area). Lastly the crowds. I have never seen this many people waiting for a lift before and have been riding for 20 years (first time on east coast though). From 11am to 4pm the mountain is overrun with people and yet they're allegedly limiting capacity. My advice to management? Recalculate what you consider "capacity" and add some speakers to the resort (base and trails). Even though I had some dislikes we had a great time and Beech did a great job hosting. I'll be back when there are freshies and no wind so I can give Oz a second chance.

Yelp
Worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT GO HERE! When we arrived we were stuck in a line to park for over an hour. There were no spots so we had to turn around and go to overflow parking. When we got there we had to wait in line for 40 min for our RESERVED tickets, then went to get equipment. Had to wait another 45 min to get equipment. Finally got all suited up to find out there were no helmets and my son's ski was incorrectly sized. After that, the kids started to melt down and we decided to try and grab a bite before we went on the ski lift. The line wrapped around the entire building for food and we couldn't get anything. Then someone told us that the ski lift line was an hour. At that point we gave up and left. When I got a hold of customer service today to explain that we never even skied this Saturday (1/23) she said they have a zero refund policy. She said they do not cap the amount of ski tickets and that if she gave a refund to me she would "have to give a refund the other 100 people that called and complained". What a nightmare experience we had and will never be back. Save your time and money and don't ever go to Beech. We drove all the way from Georgia and left without skiing one slope. How disappointing that they would treat people this way. They basically stole $300 from me and made my kids hate skiing. This whole situation could be avoided in the future if they raised prices and capped the number of ppl that could ski. It would make everyone's experience so much more pleasant. It was a ZOO on Saturday, I expected crowds but not this. How awful.

Yelp
Had so much fun here. So much to do if you love the snow. Things to do for all ages, snow boarding, skiing, ice skating, tubing. Prices range for different things. They have two restaurants and a cafeteria. People are some what blake at the bar he was a bartender at the brewery and he was very nice he made us feel welcomed.

Yelp
I tried to learn to snowboard at beech mountain resort and think that was a mistake. I bought all my equipment to try to streamline the process, however I spent 3 days there, spent $150 on lift tickets and spent more time in snowboarding school line than I did in snowboarding lessons! I didn't even see a ski lift! I showed up at 9:30am sharp this morning to wait in line to register for lessons and waited forever just to have a party of 9 at the front of the line take most lessons and the couple in front of me take the last snowboarding lesson. Why can't they have an online registration for lessons? Shame on you Beech Mountain for wasting my time and money the last 3 days. I would have given 1 star, but Alex gave me a great beginner lesson my first day, just wish i didnt waste the next 2.

Mariel S.

Yelp
This is our 5th year coming. We snowboard not ski so the line is shorter. You're not in aspen, your not paying aspen prices so based on that it's perfect. We love it & the views are beautiful!!! You can pick up your tickets for the following day anytime after 5pm.... definitely sorry the wait & price!

Jan S.

Yelp
Great time skiing! Will come back. Recommendation coming the night before to get all rentals and tickets. 3 day pass was very worth it. We picked up our rentals and tickets night before in 20 minutes. The morning line was about 100 people deep at least and rental area was a mess. So go night before. Lift operators were on top on it and saw more than once when a kid did not dismount correctly the operator stopped the lift super quick. Very impressed. Ski to the top to experience bar and bathroom with amazing views!! SKI SCHOOL FOR KIDS IS A MUST!! Every instructor was amazing and by 3 sessions our beginner was rocking the blue slopes all thanks to the ski instructor

Yelp
I was providing a service for Beech during the month of December(2022) inside of a customer service building. Working inside of the building were two blonde ladies(one old one sort of young). Once they locked the doors at 4:48PM the two ladies began saying horrible things about the guest. Supposedly a customer put in a complaint and the taller blonde woman said, "I am going to make her jump through every hoop before I help her." This doesn't even begin to skim the surface. Kids were coming in to get their season passes and their attitudes completely changed. The behavior from these workers once the doors were locked was appalling. I will most likely refuse to service this entire resort in the future solely based off of the behavior of these two employees.
