Beef and Bun BBQ

The service was good and the food averaged out to four stars. You get a lot of value here. I ordered the rib plate with onion rings and my plate showed up at the counter with about 5 ribs on it for $11.19, ribs were good and the onion rings were even better. My wife got the chicken fried steak with one vegetable and a salad for $8.80, the chicken fried was very good as well as the salad, she picked lima beans as her veggie and they were a little bitter. They have iced tea which was good, sweet and unsweet, Delaware punch was also an option they've been serving since the 60's. We'll be back to try more goodies, I enjoyed a piece of sweet potato pie for a reasonable price.

All of the food WASN’T seasoned and most of it was tough to eat. I bought a four meat plate and a chicken fried steak with a baked potato costing me about $25 in total. The customer service wasn’t that great either, they rushed not only me but a couple of other customers to hurry up with our orders. The food was so poorly cooked that I had to literally go to another barbecue place right after I ordered this called “buds” just to get something different or better in taste. The atmosphere and scenery was probably the only thing worth coming for, just because it’s quiet and clean.

Best part was my Fanta orange drink Food was priced good Bake potato had no flavor Ribs was a no for me no flavor Customer Service was bad Not sure if he was the owner or so Wasn’t very polite The enter food guy lied about this place having good bbq Plus I came from Humble Texas to try the bbq

Beef and Bun is a landmark restaurant & a staple in the Hiram Clark community! I've eaten delicious food here since 1988! Hot, fresh & made to order since day 1! Eat it there or get it to go!

Overall a good experience. The tea was good, the brisket was soft. The sausage and BBQ sauce were ok. The punch is super sweet and not for my liking, but many customers loved it. Would definitely come back and eat again here. There's plenty of seating so it never felt crowded. A lot of the interior design seemed outdated but it kind of gave an authentic vibe to the environment. Kind staff as well.

I’ve been coming here since I was little, the baked potatoes with chopped beef are always amazing. The baked beans are really good as well. Today I tried something new and got onion rings, I will never be getting those again. Everything else was good tho, love this place.

Drove an hour to come here and it did not disappoint. The location in spring branch us the one I'm used to. This is exactly like it YUM! Poboy with cheese is my go to for great BBQ

Flavor not there as before. Waited in drive thru over 15 minutes & food was cold, poboy looked like someone took a couple of slices of meat off. My childhood BBQ is no longer the same.

Has been a while since I came to have a bite to eat here But as soon as I walked in was greeted and Place smelled like same old good food being prepared never disappointed Still have good cold Delaware Punch‼

The food service is always good. I usually order the rib basket and substitute for a bake potato. I also had their chef salad it's very good. The fried fish and shrimp is delicious. Half chicken and Texas toast will get you full. Overall the dining area gives you an ambiance of feeling at home.

I want to give them 1 star for dry old beef but my mom treated my meal. I'm guessing it was the owner who took our order and he tried his darndest, to get us to come back but ummm NOT. Beef and Bun has been there for over 40 years, I grew up in The Clark as we use to call it. I attended Madison High School so yeah, Beef and Bun was the chiiiiiznet back in the day. Times have changed and so have the quality of food/taste there, forgive the disrespect but loyalty isn't worth today's prices. The food tasted like 3 day left over 4th of July cooking, my left overs the next day I had to ask forgiveness when I trashed it. I'm going to stop here and here's 4 stars for loyalty.

Great delicious bbq clean and the grape drink is delicious.staff is friendly and attentive.

Ok. I've been going here for DECADES. Since I was a kid. The meat quality isn't the same, it used to be be better. And the BBQ sauce is now meh. The service used to be better. Now it's also meh. Thank goooodness their baked potatoes are FIRE Because if the baked potatoes fall off this place has got nothing. I'd you swing by get a baked potato. They aren't huge but they will hit! Unmatched!!! Buttery and oooozing with goodness. The Texas size garlic toast is ok as well. The sausage quality gives 'wiener' not BBQ restaurant sausage. And it's not that Smokey flavor you'd expect.

As kids my parents would take us to Beef & Bun and it was such a treat, the food was the best ever.... but lately it's changed. There used to be a spanish guy and another older guy (sometime grumpy) but they cooked soo good and got the orders out fast.... it's unfortunate they are no longer working there (but at another BBQ spot down the street), they food and efficiency has suffered... today I ordered 3 baked potatoes all the way and I kid you not, I waited 20 minutes and the potato was under cooked.... so disappointed. Guess i'll be going to that spot down the road too.....

I've personally been going to this place since I was about 5 or 6 years old. This place never disappoints i only got into one alteration with one of the staff members, however the food and the staff are mostly a great experience!!! The Beef PoBoy is what I get

The food was good, as always. But they have changed the bbq sauce. The sauce when I was younger was a more vinegar based sauce and now it's more of a sweet tomato based sauce. The baked potatoes are huge! The sandwiches are tasty and the Deleware punch is still flowing!

Won't be coming here anymore. Used to get a nice amount of food and now they've gone up on the price and you get almost half of the portion. My poorboy sandwich doesn't even have enough beef to cover the bun. The last time, I ordered an all mix plate, it was pretty sad for $12. I know times are hard but damn you trying to rob people now.. the sausage, the ham, the beef, all cut paper thin.. Who ever heard of paper thin sausage.. not to mention, it only had one rib.. definitely not worth the money.... I can get a small order of french fries at McDonald's, and still have more than what they gave. the cheapest thing there is french fries, and they gave less than a handful. Definitely would not recommend this place if you're hungry or if you're feeding a family. These pictures that they have posted as what they Houston to look like. They need to re-post the new pics with half of what you're seeing.

I had not eaten at Beef and Bun since before the pandemic, and I was in the area (and hungry). I am happy to report that the food just as great as I remembered! I had the ribs and my dining companion had the baked potato topped chopped beef. We were both extremely happy with our meals!

It's good bbq but I've def had better. The chopped beef is great and I usually get the sandwich or potato with it. Sometimes I go for the sliced beef on a salad and it's a good amount of salad and filling but the sliced beef is a little drier than I'd like. The last time I went I waited 40 minutes in the drive thru and honestly it's not worth the wait.

The lemonade was the star of the show it tastes super fresh and not a lot of sugar or syrup. The food was warm but average just my opinion. I'll be coming back for the lemonade. The prices are great.

Seriously I don't know how to write a review for this restaurant.Many memories had here pre Yelper days going back to College years.Great to see there are still up and running.Had the usual sliced brisket sandwich which doesn't dissapoint like other BBQ places lots of bread and a slice of meat.Truly believe in supporting local business.If in the area try Beef and Bun.

The food portions are pretty great. Lots of brisket on the poboy but brisket had absolutely no flavor at all. The ribs no flavor. The fries aren't what I would prefer in a frie (crispy and hot) these were limp greasy and wet. It's my understanding this place has been open for years maybe decades so they have to be doing something right. A baked potato came with it that was the best potato I e ever had so I'm glad to report that was a hit. I am really impressed with portions just didnt care to much for the lack of flavor

I love the food here but the service has completely changed. I remember when people loved their job and now it's like they feel like they don't have to please their customers. The food is great but the service is horrible!! I have been coming here since I was a child and I really wish they would hire people who LOVE TO WORK and not just anybody that's willing to work.

Good service but need to change the sausage they using . Just taste cheap or was a bad batch the night I went . The Country fried steak is good with the loaded bake potato

Customer service is Horrible, I ordered a chopped beef baked potato thing was gonna be good. Was disappointed when I got home there meat has no smoke taste just taste like oven meat so u have to add the sauce to make it taste like anything

I drive a little over 20 minutes to come eat at beef and bun, even though there's 2 BBQ places 3 and 10 minutes away from my house. Their BBQ is delicious and made right! I love their chop beef sandwiches and their po boys. Their fries and baked potatoes are great as well. Super friendly and helpful staff, only bad thing I can think of is their restrooms, they have a nasty smell so use the restroom before heading here.

While the food is good, the customer service isn't. I went yesterday and literally waited a whole hour in line for one baked potato and some fries! Not even pappas bbq makes me wait that long! Do better

I've been going since I was a kid. It's good to see it's still here and still good!! The baked potatoes are un matched!! Love the sliced beef sandwiches with extra sauce on the side. No one else has the same bbq sauce. Reminds me of my childhood.

Drive thru only since Covid19. I'm #19 in line. Guy drives up to front. Checks front door and it's locked. Pulls back in line behind me. A few mons later, he drives back to front. Waits and his food is brought out. I called and asked "Can I order food to go?" Her answer: "No, drive thru only." I left. They will never get my money again.

This place has been here for years and I've been by several times a year when I'm around. The bake potato is my go to when ever I'm here. I've tried most of the menu and they never disappoint.

This place brings back so many childhood memories. We grew up down the street and we would come once a month. Still love it at 36 and try making it out once a month! Can't wait for the dining room to be open again.

My go to is the plain baked potato with heavy cream and chives w/BBQ sauce on the side. B&B BBQ has been a staple in the hiarmclarke area for over 20 years and counting. You can literally taste the history w/each bite.

This place probably serves the worst BBQ in Texas. I'm not going to waste my time writing an extensive review. Real simple: do not ever go to this place!

This place is definitely closed. It looks abandoned. I came to this place with friends hoping to get some bbq but there was no one parked in the lot and it looked very much closed.

I have been coming to this place since I was a kid, and the food here has been amazing, there are times where the food is a little dry but over all it's cheap and good. So for anyone looking for food that will fill them up for a couple of dollars this is the perfect place to go. I personally recommend the po boy sandwich with chopped beef

TERRIBLE. They must have new management or new owners. I have never been so mad at a restaurant. I went to get chopped beef baked potatoes. The size has been cut in half of what it used to be. The beef was shredded processed beef that was old instead of real meat. I also ordered a pound of sliced beef. There was no bbq sauce in my bag and I was told that bread was extra. I've been going here since high school and have NEVER experienced this. I will never waste my money here again.

I got my order to go so I was in and out. I wouldn't call this place a bbq joint/restaurant. I would best describe it as a cafeteria. Now here me out. I didn't smell bbq driving up, I didn't smell bbq inside the restaurant, I had the food inside my car with the windows rolled up and didn't smell bbq. Upon walking in you see a large rotisserie with chickens rotating and what looks like open flames dancing inside the rotisserie. I'm pretty sure the flames were for show and had nothing to do with the meat. You don't have open flames with bbq. I think I saw something like that at a buffet in Vegas. The chicken is rotisserie chicken. A little juicier and plumper than what you get at kroger. It's a good deal, a whole chicken for 6.79. The ribs lacked any smoked taste. I put some store bought bbq sauce on it and it brought the ribs up a few notches. Fries were soggy with grease, not worth eating. Service was OK food was good it just wasn't smoked I guess is the best way to say it. I wouldn't come back for ribs. I may try something else next time. I would surely get the whole chicken. I can make wraps or enchiladas.

I so wanted this place to be good but, I am not impressed. Not at all. Let's start with the ordering process. It is a little disorganized with people forming random lines and the order takers are pulling people from the left, from the right...but, it's a BBQ joint, I suppose. However, The dining area is large and there is plenty of space for mid-sized groups. When I watched other people's orders coming out, I noticed that the portions seemed to be very generous so, I was hoping for the best. While I was waiting for my order to come up, I had to use the facilities. Why did I do that? The bathroom was horrendous and the smell is indescribable. I should have turned around right then but nature was calling. However, I decided to order the ribs, a little beef, sausage, ham and few sides for my partner and I to sample. When I got the product home, I dug in and was not impressed by the ham or sausage. Also, I asked for pork ribs and I got ONE. I did get beef ribs but, I was only interested in the pork. The sliced beef had no flavor and the ham seemed like something served in an elementary school cafeteria. And don't even get me started on the BBQ sauce because it was watery and tasteless. Here's the summation: PROS: --large portion size CONS: --tasteless food --in store bathroom --hard to get through on the phone to pre-order

This place has been around forever and even though it's old, the food is good and you get your bang for your buck. So many fancy bbq places around town that will over charge and under flavor, but this place will give you a solid brisket poboy every time. That's my go to. The drive thru is convenient, but they are closed on Sundays.

Beef & Bun is a good place to get some BBQ, Prices are low & service is good. Don't be afraid of the location, It is in the hood but once you go there you'll go back. I started eating there about a year ago & now I try to stop in at least once a week..

Stopped by for quick lunch on 10/22/13. Do not let the outside fool you. This spot has obviously been around for a while but the inside is pretty spacious. Also noticed it was very clean. From the counters to the dining area to the self serve pickle/jalepeno/onion counter it was in order; which aint half bad during busy lunch hours. The only smell was the smell of good smoked bbq. I ordered a chopped beef sandwich. As orders came out, I noticed they weren't stingy with portions & the same went for my sandwhich. The sauce was just a tad sweeter/light than I care for; I like mine thicker w/ a lil more spice, but I've had waaaaaaaaay worse. Service was quick & friendly. They knew a few customers by name. Have to say it was pretty good; better than this sandwhich I'm eating from Demeris right now that I will review next :-) And for like $4.50 it wasn't a bad deal at all. Their prices are extremely fair IMO...a full combo would've only been around $6-$7. I'll def give this place a try again.

This place has really gone downhill as of late. The barbecue is bland and tasteless. There is an extreme lack of seasoning which is why I'd rather just go across the street to OMG baked potato. The pricing is about what you would expect and the portions are decent. Make sure you ask for extra BBQ sauce

The food was ok, the potato salad was so good. The BBQ sauce... not a big fan. I don't like how ham is even an option, idk it's a weird combination. I'm sure people like it but I wasn't a fan. Overall food was OK.

My sister and I were so excited to stop at Beef and Bun. It's a restaurant from our old neighborhood where it was our Friday night treat to have dinner there. But I have to say, sadly, the food has changed. It's either I didn't know barbecue then or they don't know barbecue now. The meet was dry and lacked flavor. We had the ribs, beef, links and the chicken.

Worst B-B-Q! Use to come here years ago for great B-B-Q. Tried it today & it was disgusting. Sausage tasted boiled. Ribs were tough & rubbery.

I've been coming here since I was a kid (34 years old now). The ONLY thing I get here is their baked potato. It's amazing. I don't care for their meats, or bbq sauce. If they sold only baked potatoes they'd be just fine.

I had been going here since I was a Kid. It was once one of the best around. The employees were friendly and many had worked there for many years. My favorite used to be the Baked potato, Shrimp Platter and Chef Salad. After being away for many years a friend a I met there for a dinner meal. Here is what has changed. The chef salad use to come with 3 meats beef, Chicken and Ham, they have cut it to one meat for the same price. The Ribs were tuff. I was very disappointed with the meal. I do not know if any of the original cooks are around any more and the taste of the food is just not what it use to be.

"Who wants to go get lunch?" "Where are ya going?" "Beef and Bun" After this short exchange, my car is full and I have half a dozen orders written on post-its. Beef and Bun is convenient to my place of work so it is a regular spot for both lunch and a quick dinner before after work events. The Highlights: -inexpensive -good portions -decent BBQ -drive thru! -service: The girl at the front counter, it is always the same one, is some sort of savant. Her memory is cah-ray-zee! Even with me ordering for half of the staff at work she remembers it all without writing anything down, even with some high maintenance special orders. -SWEET POTATO PIE: homemade biatches! Holla! Lowlights: -soda in a can, but it is only $.89 so maybe that's a wash. -They have a heavy hand with toppings like butter, so let 'em know to ease up! -The salads are pretty heavy on the iceburg if you get my drift. But why are you going to a BBQ place to get salad? weirdo. -potentially location: I loove the locale because it is 3 minutes from work, however, if you are a suburban whitey (full disclosure: I am a recovering suburban whitey) you might be concerned that it is in the Hiram-Clarke. Southside wha, what! PS don't be, give it a go. When my car comes back to work full of happy co-workers, brown paper bags in hand, the other half of the staff looks on with jealous stares.

I've loved this place since I was in high school. Okay I'll be honest 16 years. This place has been around for a lot longer then that. Don't let the location of this place scare you. It's not that bad. Two words y'all ----- Delaware Punch. Purple goodness !!!!!! It's like a Kool-Aide drink ( for those who don't know) The rotisserie chicken is super duper moist and delicious . The half chicken, baked potato, Texas toast and salad is enough to feed two people. Remember to ask for the barbecue sauce on the side. Chopped beef sandwich, sliced beef, or sausage po-boy are awesome with sauce on the side. If you order inside you can stock up on onions, pickles , and pickled jalapeños. You can also see the guys in the kitchen chopping the beef , sausage, chicken, and pork ribs. I love to watch them be generous with the butter and sour cream for the baked potatoes . Just slapping that awesome goodness on those hot potatoes.... Mmmmmmmmmmm... Love it!!!!! The dinning area is family style. The table and chairs are very homey. The drive thru is usually backed up. Once you're in line you're stuck. The line goes in the back of the building. I've been in line for up to 30 minutes before waiting for that chicken @ 630pm. Everyone in tha 'hood was jonesing for it , too. I love this place....... It's reminds me where I'm from.... :-) ..... The Hood:-)

This place was just horrible to me. HORRIBLE!!! I had high hopes based on other reviews but PLEASE do not be fooled!!! It's bad!!! If you know & appreciate real barbecue, then this isn't it. If you like smokey meat that doesn't require bbq sauce to make it tasty, then this isn't it. We got a sliced brisket sandwich and a rib plate and I've never thrown so much food away-I felt guilty but just could not stomach it. This was the blandest food I've ever had-the sauce couldn't even make it taste better. However, if you're struggling financially & only need a cheap belly filler, then this is your place because the portions are large.
