America’s Best Beer Gardens

"Accessible only to ticketholders of Longwood Gardens' 1,083 idyllic acres, I admired showpieces like the orchid house and the fountain garden waterworks and light pulses before indulging in a beer supplied by local favorite Victory Brewing Co." - Adam H. Callaghan

The worst experience that we had on an otherwise gorgeous day at Longwood. We were getting hungry and loved the idea of eating outside. There was going to be a DJ and a violinist so we were excited (and they turned out to be awesome!) We went to the first hut and the two guys there just didn’t really understand customer service. We asked them a question about something on the menu and they gave a curt one word response. This hut served pizza. Then I noticed another hut further away and I asked “is it the same menu at the other hut?” And he looked at me like that was the dumbest question he ever heard and then responded no. I knew better than to ask him anything else. Not helpful at all. Can you give me a hint at the menu maybe? There was no one behind us in the line so it wasn’t like they were slammed. Honestly by his responses I was thinking “I don’t wanna buy food from your hut anyway.” Honestly that wouldn’t have been enough for me to hate this place enough to never eat here again but the experience continues. So we only got beer and water (it was $17 by the way just for that) from the first hut and made our way to the second hut. I saw two ladies here and they seemed nice so I rejoiced. We waited right behind two gentlemen that were already there and ordered. The gentlemen ordered and we were going to head up next. While we were doing that another group came up behind up us and went another way and cut us in line. Annoying but the cashier saw us waiting so surely she will tell that to the man that cut us in line…. Nope. They served all the other people and then we had to go to the back of the line. Not helpful at all. By this point I was completely annoyed with this whole beer garden. The staff here was so unlike the rest of the gardens. They were unhelpful and aloof. I also noticed a gentlemen bring the food over from the cafe. So they don’t even make the food there in the huts. My burger was barely warm and was probably sitting for who knows how long. The price was giving gourmet prices but the service was giving whatever the opposite of chicfila is. We did enjoy sitting outside and listening to the music but I would never eat here or the cafe again. What a sad middle to an otherwise gorgeous day!

The beer garden at Longwood gardens has a great atmosphere with great drinks and especially good pizza. When I went, there was also a live band which added great ambience to the venue. Only thing I will say is that it was a bit on the pricey side, but a great experience nonetheless.

The wait was shorter here over the cafe. So we split up and got pizzas and burger/brat/hotdogs. The beer was fine and the cookie I should have skipped. It looked better than it tasted. My mushroom pizza was good and filling. Kids ate all their selections of the basic selection of cheese pizza, burger, and hotdog. The oldest finished off my pizza. Food wasn't bad at all but for sure overpriced. We did have to wait for the cheese to be made but it was made in the time they said. We were lucky to get a seat at a table with an umbrella around 1:00pm the tables were full and people waiting for an open one. We spent over $100 on five meals, two beers, and two cookies. Right aound what we spend out with the family of 5 most places. However with the ticket prices it of course puts us over a normal meal out. It was still an overall amazing day!! We went on a Friday and there was no music happening but the kids still enjoyed the access to the stage to play.

not a single vegetable. food is dispersed into 3 locations, one for pizza, one for meat, and another we didn't check. very long lines, so you need to split your family to groups accordingy, and have one or two safeguard a sitting spot.

Though the food is not really rave-worthy (still tasty), this is a fun spot to spend your time when they have live music. The pizza is a fine snack, but overpriced and not really anything special. The available beers and cider were nice. The music is the real treat. The sound was great and it's lovely to sit and listen.

Additional dining option at Longwood Gardens. Beers served with some bar foods. Entertainment with live bands in the summer. Casual outdoor seatings for families with restless children....

Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Purchased tickets online and luckily we did because they apparently were sold out. Parking lot is big enough to accommodate all visitors, just don’t follow the crowd parking in the back. I thankfully kept it moving and parked closer to the entrance. Our tickets were for 7:30 pm and they let you in 30 minutes prior. Once inside, we headed straight for the beer garden since we were hungry and cold. We ordered the brick over pizza which was surprisingly good. Others in our group ordered the sausage sandwich and they commenting on how good it was and believed it wasn’t pork but chicken instead. The hot chocolate is as good as well as the one with Bailey’s. Inside the restaurant they had a variety of different food options as well as drinks and also alcoholic beverages. Outside pretty much served the same thing. This is a huge estate which involves a lot of walking so come prepared. Good walking shoes, heavy coat, gloves, hat, hand warmers, whatever it takes. Everything looked so pretty with the lights and the different plants/flowers.

Yelp
We visited Longwood Gardens for the first time and had a wonderful day there. If you haven't visited Longwood I highly recommend it for an amazing experience and you'll find endless 5 star reviews supporting my recommendation. After spending a few hours touring the property we were ready for lunch and the only option available on the day we were there was the Cafe and Beer Garden. We didn't expect much but decided to give it a shot instead of just grabbing a snack and eating outside the property later. I am so glad we decided to eat here because the food we ordered was absolutely delicious. My wife and I shared the mushroom soup which is a must have when in Kennett Square, PA, also known as "the mushroom capital of the world". The soup was full of flavor and very rich and apparently the same version served in the high end restaurant on the property called 1909. Apparently, this is a recipe in the Dupont family cookbook dating back from many decades ago and is available on the Longwood Garden's web site if you decide you'd like to recreate this soup at home. The second dish we ordered was the white bean basil ravioli in a Romanesco sauce with Kale and mushrooms served with a delicious crispy focaccia toast. We loved every bite of this dish and it was a nice portion and also vegan which we didn't even realize. The cafe also offered a few sandwiches and pizza which we will next time we return to the gardens.
