You must come here during you visit in Amsterdam to try a few of the different beers. They have a huge variety and the staff is extremely nice, willing to recommend options and have a chat too. There is a nice selection of gluten free beer. I tried the Jopen which is locally made. We also tasted some dutch cheese and pickles. Definitely do not miss this gem!

Tucked away in the middle of an area where you maybe wouldn’t expect to find a place of this magnitude. 18 taps with a good spread and a more than decent bottle selection. Staff is split between absolute angels and the one borderline psychopath. If not for the latter this would be a solid 5/5.

Fantastic bar in the centre of Amsterdam. Wonderful service from knowledgeable staff, and its by far the best bar I've been to serving non-alcoholic options - there was a separate 0% menu to choose from with two pages packed with options - something I've never seen before! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam to stop by here.

Our third visit to The Wildeman traveling from the UK. Truly the best Ale House in Amsterdam, all the staff a friendly, patient and helpful. It’s a craft beer lovers dream and cannot be overlooked when visiting the Dam.

Come here if you want a great lineup of local draft beers (and more). They had phenomenal ones on tap and the ambiance was great. Nice to find a great spot with great beers while visiting Amsterdam.

This genuinely Dutch bar is a hidden gem, tucked between tourist traps minutes away from Grand Centraal. If you don't know what you are looking for, you will likely walk past it. Once inside, you will be impressed with a great beer list, friendly and knowledgeable bartenders and rustic ambiance. I stop by every time I'm in town - it's one of my.Duch friends favorite

This was very cool pub experience in Amsterdam. The bartender was super friendly and quick to get our orders in. The interior is pretty large and can seat lots of people. Once you enter, you feel like you've gone back in time given the traditional pub decor. No QR codes or anything, just a good old fashioned beer menu on the wall. There were so many options (look for any specials on the walls too), it was quite hard to pick, and every item was super cheap so you can definitely try a bunch. We tried the jever pilsner, Jolene juicy lager, Gulpener, and frontal juice punch -- all of these were refreshing and tasty and we enjoyed them all. For snacks, we ordered the smoked mussels, which were fine, but I wouldn't order them again, nothing really special about them and bit bland. We also got the veal liver sausage, which was quite good and came with a few crackers, but they'll top you off with more crackers as you need. All in all, definitely recommend the beers here, not necessarily the snacks. It's tucked down a side alley so may not be as busy, but worth checking out if you fancy a beer (or many)!

Excellent beer list, cool bartender; one of my favorite spots for fresh beer in Europe. Surprisingly good selection of west coast IPAs as well as North Easter's. Highly recommend / near all the touristy shit, but chill place with hygge.

One of the oldest pubs in Amsterdam! Definitely worth the stop, especially since it is clearly still a local haunt after all these centuries! They have a wonderful and varied beer selection - I was even able to find an amazing sour beer! We also ordered some snacks and they were very basic pub food. We got the Dutch cheese and some chips and salsa. The cheese was cubes cheese but very good. And the chips and salsa were nothing spectacular but great to munch on while chatting. Enjoyed our spot in the terrace people watching and enjoying beer.

Really cool brown cafe. We stopped here as part of a tour. They had a big selection of Dutch beers and we sampled some snacks. It's definitely a locals vibe place which is cool. Worth a stop!

Being an American tourist, I have no idea how old this bar is, but it feels like its been around for a decades, maybe more than a century. The exterior and interior feel like a time warp back to days of no internet, no cell phones, and no computers. Its an elegant and mature place to enjoy one of the 18 draft beers and 250+ bottles, while still being able to hear and converse with your fellow beer buddies. Enjoy an exotic Dutch or Belgium beer for around €5ish. Or be cheap with a boring €3 Leffe lager, or a be a baller beer snob with €10+ hard to find rare bottle. The staff was unusually friendly to us American tourists. They were knowledgeable with all the beers and patient in helping us choose a bee to fit our diverse tastes. I love the Dutch!

After struggling with the door I entered and was transported to Beervana. The bartender was friendly and helpful. They have a ton of bottled beers and about a dozen or so, fresh on tap, beers. The ambience is outstanding from a Beer Lovers pov. Lots of old stuff relating to beers. I strongly recommend this place for beers beyond the Pilsner style and for Beer Lovers.

The Wildman was the first craft beer pub we went to in Amsterdam, and it ended up being our favorite. Excellent selection of craft beer that featured Erdinger, Weisephaner, Rogue and Anchor. A bit of a limited selection of snacks. That said, the cheese plate and spicy nuts hit the spot. This cozy little pub made us feel right at home working on a few beers. It's not the best selection of beers from the Netherlands, but it's the best bar in Amsterdam. It's centrally located right on the tram line. It's easy walking distance from any hotel I stay in when I'm in Amsterdam. The staff are friendly and they have a great mix of beers. The outside seating may not be huge, but it's adequate. There's some excellent people watching and there are good choices for dinner in the area. Have a drink here either before or after dinner. OK, perhaps before AND after a meal. If you like craft beer, you owe it to yourself to make an effort to spend a little time here.

This is a quintessential craft beer spot in Amsterdam. The atmosphere is low profile, unpretentious and warm for a pub with excellent beers on tap and list. I think they have about 20+ taps. Its hard to tell with a never ending bar that bends around revealing more towers of 4-5 beers. The draught list is diverse in style and country or origin, but always much local dutch beer to be found. They will always have something and many thing you will want to try lick, literally all 20. Then you can work on the bottle list that is deep in style and selection. Of course another 5 star consideration is the staff. All great friendly, knowledgeable and hospitable dutch friends. I asked to buy some glasses, but our server Suzzette refused. She said that they had given them away at their 30th Anniversary party so she couldn't charge me. Wrapped them up no charge! We were then honored with the picture book from said 30th. So Sweet, but knows her beer like a razor. Yes there are other gentlemen servers; great, fantastic souls and characters of their own, but it drives them crazy to speak only by name of Suzette!! It's a great part of town with bad parking! It is a place you long to come back to as a tourist or beer lover.

Great beer selection. Friendly staff. It was a bit busy, so the bar tender showed us to the area in back of the bar with more room, and even had its own bar thought it was closed a the time. They have a nice outdoor seating area as well, nice when its not raining. We managed to go back our last night before leaving to Belgium and found the bartender that helped us out days earlier enjoying a drink on his day off, pretty cool. During our conversation he mentioned he was glad that tourist were coming back on such a short trip. Great pub, highly recommend.

American On Business but hanging out with a local friend who decided to take me here as one of his favorite establishments. Great Atmosphere! Great Beer selections and Great Bartender! We also enjoyed some good Bar Food! Definitely a throwback Establishment worth visiting!

HELL. YES. The boyfriend and I were worried we'd hate Amsterdam. We don't like weed and obviously will only LOOK at the red light district (not patronize ;) ) so we searched Yelp feverishly for a great beer bar to keep us amused. Lucky for us just like Amsterdam is a mecca for healthy food, so is it a mecca for BEER. This place is amazing. We were taken back a bit by first as it looks a bit cluttered and rundown on the inside, and smelled of old spilled beer but you'll get over this pretty quickly. The beers here are DELLLICCIIOUUSS. Initially I ordered a white hef the bartender recommended from Weihenstephan, and it was great. I'm admittedly a bit biased though, I always like their hefs. However slowly I started looking around and noticed almost everyone ordering the Omnipollo Nebuchadnezzar IIPA, and so I hopped on the band wagon and was happy I did! It was a light, clean hop with no muggyness they can sometimes get. I loved it! So yes, leave your inhibitions and uptight American self at the door, and enjoy some of the yummiest beers you've ever had :) Save water, drink beer.

Ain't this a wonderful craft beer bar! Lovely interior, massive beer selection, cozy little terrace benches outside and staff that wants you to have a good time. We enjoyed delicious beers by a few of the great craft breweries that Amsterdam can be proud of.

This was another quick drink stop for us and it was a solid place to grab a quick beer before being on our way. The ambience was a bit dark, dank, and musty, kind of like an irish pub that needs a bit of cleaning. But other than that, they have a decent dutch selection on tap ... and surprisingly no heineken, which was nice to see. 3.5 stars.

Great pub to stop in and have a pint, or few, in the downtown Amsterdam area. The beer selection is vast and the service is friendly. We were lucky the pub wasn't too busy when we stopped in so we ordered a few beers right away. The selection is great, there is something for everyone here. There are a few tables outside to sit and enjoy if you're lucky enough to get one, otherwise there are tables inside to sit as well. I'd recommend this place for anyone who wants good beer in the downtown Amsterdam area.

Wilderman is the place to go for a beer in Amsterdam ! Centrally located at one of the small streets this cozy bar is welcoming your from the moment you even only pass it by. Outside seating in the pedestrian area makes a lot of sense during warm summer evening. But inside has great climate dark wood bar and many, somehow separated, almost like hidden tables. This is what I like most in this old stylish pubs. But first and foremost Wilderman is a place where you will get delicious beers and good whisky. Bartenders are very engaged and willing to help you make a choice based on your preferences. This is very helpful, especially if you want to try new things but you don't want to go too far from your taste. We were supposed to be back second time, which did not happen due to time constrains. But I will happily revisit every time I-am-sterdam (-:

Bierproeflokaal in de Wildeman must translate to "beer heaven" because the beer selection at this bar is awesome! Bierproeflokaal in de Wildeman is situated down a quiet backstreet in the Centrum neighborhood in a former Amsterdam distillery. The small, cozy bar is decorated in antique beer art and 1950's decor and has a warm, inviting neighborhood pub feel. The bar doesn't play music so you'll hear a buzz of conversations and laughter in the air along with the sound of clinking of beer bottles and mugs. There were over a dozen beers on tap and a massive bottled selection with a strong focus on Belgian and Dutch beers. We ordered our first round at the bar and enjoyed the beers outside since all of the tables were full. Luckily, we didn't have to sit in the cold for long as a table opened up shortly later. We ordered some olives and dutch cheese, meatballs, and shepherd's pie. Everything was delicious and our waitress was fast and friendly. This is a must stop spot for all beer lovers!

This was our first stop for beer after a long train ride from London and I'm so glad we stopped. It's the perfect little craft beer bar to try out a whole bunch of great beers. It's very casual with plenty of seating in two rooms inside as well as a few tables out in the alley. Prices were excellent and the staff here is very knowledgeable about all things beer. They do a great job choosing the beers they have on tap because all of the five beers we had were excellent!

Cozy bar near Amsterdam Central Station. Had the best light beer of my life here. Initially, I was looking for a nearby restaurant but the bar looked so inviting, I had to walk in. Although they don't serve full meals, the snack menu was very tasty, can't recall exactly what I had but it was something with delicious aged cheese. The bar atmosphere is relaxed and has a very classic feel. If you want to try a rare gem in the touristy part of town within walking distance of De Wallen, this bar has a very friendly and welcoming staff. Enjoy!

Small place with some outdoor seating in the alley. I came here a few times. They have good beer selections. Would be better if they have more small plates selections so I wouldn't be real drunk by just drinking lol

I wish I could give more than one star but, this place especially the bartender with the beard in his 20/30's was pretty rude to us. When they turn their back on you and do not serve you- you know there is a problem. Since a lot of their business is tourists- they should figure out their customer service issue. I would go to a place that is more welcoming. There is a lot of competition out there- go to a place where it is friendly. A lot more friendly......

This is a great place to spend some time while in Amsterdam. The setting is very cozy with antique fixtures and signs, but the high point is the rotation of wonderful European beers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, including a variety of Trappist ales. They also have a few from the British Isles and the US. All can be viewed on the chalkboard menus. One common characteristic of their selection is they are all quality beers. I will be surprised to find a more choice collection anywhere else in such pleasant surroundings. The bartender was very helpful to describe their offerings, plus he allowed me to collect a few beer coasters for my collection. While they were very accommodating to the variety of international beer lovers that frequent this place, the locals still haven't abandoned it, so you know it's great! Do not miss it!

Don't let the tourists throw you off, this is a great beer bar! I came here first on a Friday night where it was absolutely packed. The sweet bartender made me some good suggestions before I settled on de Molen's Rasputin. They even gave me a few pieces of fruity chocolate to accompany my beer, how sweet! Literally. They have 18 taps and a lot of bottles concentrating mostly on Dutch and Belgian brews, which is exactly what I was after while in Amsterdam. They also have proper ciders on offer if beer isn't your thing. Before flying back, I had a couple hours to kill so I wandered in here again on Monday at 1 in the afternoon. It was completely empty! A little eerie at first, with no music and the old wood interior muffling most of the noise from outside, but another sweet bartender appeared and suggested Coral Seas from Buxton and To Øl. I had asked for something sour and this beer definitely delivered. He also reminded me that they have free wifi, which I'm sure all tourists can appreciate. Please visit this bar! It is so cozy and the bartenders are so nice. There is no smoking allowed inside but there are several tables outside with ashtrays. However, the one downside is that there are a lot of drunk/high tourists wandering out of coffeeshops at night so they can be annoying you outside.

Proeflokaalen is definitely what you are looking for if you want to try other brews than the common ones. When in Amsterdam last weekend I visited like ten different pubs or "proeflokaalen". This is one of the better ones based on that they have a variety of brews - local AND international and not only Belgium/Dutch style. Wildeman is rather tiny, but if you go here during daytime and not necesssary hectic weekends and evenings you will enjoy it in a calmer pace. They serve like 25 different brews and not only necessarily BEER. So if you or someone in your company are not a beerdrinker you can still find great brews that are sweeter or fruitier without being like sweet soda. Helpful bartender. They accept credit cards.

ATTENTION: this is absolutely one of the best beer bars I've discovered, European or otherwise. The Yelp reviews drew me in with a fellow beer-loving friend. We asked the (quite knowledgeable) bartender what he recommended per our tastes. I like strong hops, so he recommended two VERY good beers that I've been searching for since returning to the US: Proatnat 2014 American Pale Ale and Joban IPA. Also -- but NOT recommended -- we tried genever, which is supposedly what you're expected to try when in the Netherlands. DON'T. I mean, unless you drink Everclear for fun. (No, it's not that strong, but it is that disgusting.) Lastly, this must be mentioned: by the time we left BidW (that's my new abbreviation for this place), we were, uh, having a great time and asked where to get cheese. Well... let's just say we didn't leave without a healthy slice of emental. We didn't know it was emental until a stranger on the street tried it without hesitation, but that's another story. For about 6 drinks, I hardly spend 20 Euro. So... you're sold, right? Go here. I'd tell you to have a great time, but I already know you will.

This is a great example of how Yelp helps you discover hidden gems in your neighborhood. I'm in this area all the time but have never been inside this bar. I was looking for a convenient and interesting place to catch up with some friends over drinks. With 200+ bottled beers and 10+ on tap, there is something to please everyone. They also have a secret cider menu, you just have to ask! Overall, it is a great place to hangout. Unfortunately, their food was okay... there weren't many choices for snacks so try to eat something before you start drinking. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable! It attracts a mix of locals and tourists.

Great little bar in the alley with an impressive selection of Dutch beers to choose from. Eighteen beers on tap with 200+ in bottles will keep a beer drinker happy for quite some time to come. They serve snack food along with a special of the day. The day I was there they had a BBQ pork sandwich as the special that was very very tasty and went rather well with my beer. There's plenty of seating outside but I prefer the gezellig atmosphere inside. They have some great fruit beers here too.

Bourdain visited during a layover. Google anything related to craft beer in the Dutch capital and In de Wildeman will invariably be listed. The Flying Dog Brewery in Maryland even saw fit to brew a special In de Wildeman Farmhouse IPA to toast the pub on its 25th anniversary, which is now brewed year-round as simply Wildeman Farmhouse IPA. Basically, this bierproeflokaal in a little medieval alleyway is perhaps the first destination for any craft beer enthusiast in Amsterdam. A dizzying array of bottled beers, primarily Dutch and Belgian, along with a few drafts are available to partrons, along with a menu of bittergarnituur, or small pub snacks. It's tiny, but it's a warm and inviting pub, especially on cold Holland days, matched only by the friendliness of its staff. Proost!

Small and cozy bar. Old school bar. Good selections of craftbeers there. Had the rye sour with raspberries in it to give it a unique flavor to it. Highly recommend this bar while in Amsterdam to try Dutch craftbeers while visiting The Netherlands on your travels. There's usually about 10 of their beers on tap.

I guess they have good beer and lots of it. For some reason it is very popular with one of my colleagues. I found the staff to be rude - apparently pulling a pint requires so much concentration that they are unable to answer a question at the same time. The menu is extremely limited. Bitterballen with your beer? Go elsewhere. The seating is limited and if you have a large party you will fill the place up and not have enough seating.

Amazing selection of crafted beer and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Easy to find using Yelp, Wednesday crowd around dinner time was ok and I had no problem finding my own spot :) Tell the staff your preference and they will surprise you! I will definitely come back:)

A must for any beer-lover. Look to their chalk boards for the bottled beers of the month, as well as their rotating tap selection. For the Americans reading this review, no. of beers on tap does not equal quality of the pub. At least in the Netherlands. And Belgium. This place is quiet, and a perfect place for sampling the extensive Belgian menu. Minus 1 star for the lack of decent food though. So God damn cheap, too. Proost!

Cool place to go and try new beers. The place is quite small but not always crowded. There is a second room that not a lot of people know about. As soon as you walk in, turn right and you enter the "secret room" They usually have about 15 or so beers on tap and the list changes regularly so there is always something new to try. The amont of beers they have in bottle is huge.

This hard to find pub was one of my favorite spots I popped into while traveling in Amsterdam. We looked it up on Yelp and saw how much people enjoyed the place and so we had to check it out too. We only stayed for one round of drinks, as we were heading to dinner right after. I found the ambience and bartenders to be great. It is one of these places that if you lived there and were super into craft beer...you may come every week. The casualness of the place is what made it most enjoyable to me. Also, they have sooo many beers to choose from. It was the largest selection of beers of anywhere I tried my entire time in Amsterdam. The two guys behind the bar were funny in a very dry way and joked about almost everything. I found that to be fun. The lighting is low and the tables and chairs are old and heavy wood. Exactly what I want from an old, authentic pub in Amsterdam. I will definitely pop back in if I find myself in town again.

Well located in the central part of the city, In De Wildeman might be the best place to get beer in all of Amsterdam. Tucked down a side street, with modest outdoor seating, Wildeman offers a cozy and authentic pub experience. They have about 17 beers on tap and probably another 200 in the bottle. Selections are largely Belgian and Dutch, as one would expect. But, they also have offerings from Germany, the UK and even, surprisingly enough, microbrews from the US. Wildeman also has a few beers they make themselves. The De Wildeman en Flying Dog, made in the style of an American IPA, is worth trying. Decent selection of bar snacks, particularly local cheeses and sausages, provide a nice foil to the excellent beers available. This is a pretty popular place and can get a bit crowded with the limited number of tables. There's not much elbow room at the bar, either. They even have an iPhone app available, which will tell you what is currently on tap! In De Wildeman is a definite must-go for the beer lover visiting Amsterdam.

They had 5 ciders to choose from! If I liked beer, this place has it all! Great atmosphere, very old and interesting. Staff is friendly and finding the old alley was fun too.

his was a very attractive traditional Dutch place where our mustachioed waiter served us up some local highlights to end our boozy evening, including De Proevel - Tonny at a late-evening-dangerous 5.7pc! Situated in a former distillery.

The bar tender was great helping me pick beers. Can confident say they were the best beers of my life. Good atmosphere, good location, good beer. Would definitely suggest stopping by if you visit Amsterdam. CHEERS!

This place is a beer drinkers paradise. Too many to choose from and too many to try, but they will help you pick something good and different. Time to get out of your beer rut! Very helpful staff and unpretentious surroundings, sit inside or out.

As the tagline says, this is as good as it gets for a beer bar! World class selection of the best European beers and a some nice selections from the United States as well. We struck up a conversation with the bar tender about our favorite beers. Once he knew we were for real, he started bringing us the occasional sample. He was extremely friendly and since we were one of only two tables in the place early on a Friday afternoon, we received plenty of attention. This little pub is a classic and a must-see for anyone in Amsterdam who loves beer. The ambiance is pure gold with dark wood bar and the funkyness you can only get in a building that is probably a couple hundred years old. de Wildeman will be on my list of beer spots every visit from now on. If you want a Heineken, you're in the wrong bar. Great selection of craft beers, helpful bartenders, and a pretty chill crowd. Definitely worth stopping by.

A traditional Bierproeflokaal (beer tasting house), In de Wildeman (known to many as The Wild-Man) is an absolute heaven for those who truly enjoy their beer. Situated in a former distillery, this bar has anywhere from 15-20 draught beers at any one time, and over 200 bottled beers; so you're sure to find one you like! These beers include mostly Belgian and Dutch varieties, but there are some British and German entries too. Also available on draught every month is the Beer of the Month as selected by the ABT group, the Alliante van Bier Tapperijen (Beer Tappers' Alliance). Aside from having a wealth of choice, this is genuinely a nice place to drink: it has plenty of character and is ideally situated in the heart of Amsterdam, just hidden away enough to keep it pleasantly secluded.
