How to Road Trip the Yukon on a Budget (Updated 2025)

"For budget lodging in Whitehorse I stayed at Beez Kneez Bakpakers, the only true hostel in town, which offers free Wi‑Fi, free coffee, laundry service, and a full kitchen." - Matthew Kepnes

I stayed just one night. It is a Beez-y place but quiet at night, respectful and has all the amenities you would need (shower, paid for laundry, living areas/outdoor space, kitchen). There are 6 beds in the two dorm-style rooms but they are pretty cheap & I personally found it very easy to relax there. Sara did everything she could to make sure her guests had what they needed during their stay and was an excellent host. Made a friend who i ended up adventuring a bit with.

The owner was so thoughtful and had a perfect home to host travellers. She thought of everything! Plenty of parking and beds and a quite walkable town. I happened to be in town on the opening day of the farmers market. Great recommendation! There were plenty of booths and foods to sample! The decor is so comfy and homelike! And the beds are comfy!

Sara’s an wonderful host, I felt at home right away. The rooms were super clean, and the shared spaces were comfy and well set up. The location couldn’t be better, right downtown. No complaints at all, I absolutely loved my time here. Thanks so much Sara!

Cozy hostel in a home with terrific hosts. I goofed on the date when I made my booking but they were understanding and made an effort to accommodate me the next night. Great local tips from Sara and the location made an easy stroll to downtown Whitehorse, and to my bus the next morning.

Sara was great! Hostel was very clean, organized. Best sleep I've had in 9 days! Well worth the cost! Great location.

I enjoyed my week at Beez Kneez, it was a nice home away from home. Sara has done a great job with the place, thinking of all sorts of amenities and cool art pieces to put up around the home. She enjoys getting to know her guests and is incredibly helpful. Definitely goes the extra mile for anyone who needs literally anything! The kind of person who would wake you up in the middle of the night to see the northern lights if you asked her. I really enjoyed the community feel and being able to meet and share time with people of all backgrounds and ages. It wasn't a big issue, but one thing to note is the hostel closes for a few hours each day for cleaning. Thanks for a lovely experience! I hope to be back again.

They were Unwilling to rent a bed to a out of province worker, building homes in the yukon. Sara Vikers was both rude amd condescending in our one conversation. While her staff seemed to have no issue making the reservation. Not a wise move.

It's like staying with an aunt or grandparent, it's very homely. Sara is very kind and willing to accommodate, if it looks like nothing is available online I'd recommend calling her anyway. The house is clean and beds comfortable, just be aware that the whole house closes during the day for cleaning, but who goes to the Yukon to sit inside all day? The house is filled with travel memorabilia and guests are encouraged to leave their mark, in the guest book or by finger painting. It is unique and very unlike the countless corporate hostels I've stayed at.
