Bifana and prego at Beira Gare: this cafeteria-restaurant, also near the Rossio metro, serves home style fast food. Their bifana (sautéed pork sandwich) was the best thing we had all week. If you eat standing at the bar, a hearty portion comes to a whopping €1.80. The pricier prego (sliced beef sandwich) was less satisfying and cost €2.20.

An excellent little corner restaurant in the Baixa near Praça de D. Pedro IV, or as it's usually called, Rossio. There's a good selection of fish and seafood dishes including sandwiches, as well as other sandwiches including a good bifana, which I chose (see the photo below) and thoroughly enjoyed. We wanted to order a bowl of caldo verde, which was on the menu, but the waiter told us it had sold out and recommended vegetable soup (also depicted below). It was wonderful, a hearty thick soup featuring cabbage, shredded carrots, beans, and macaroni with a nice garlicky flavoring. Our waiter couldn't have been friendlier. He came several times to chat with us and to ask how we liked the meal. There's outside seating, but all tables were taken, so we ate inside and found the atmosphere very pleasant, homey and upretentious. We seemed to be the only tourists eating there at the time we had a mid-afternoon meal -- and that says something, given that this is in a very touristy part of Lisbon's Baixa district. Prices are very reasonable, too -- around €20 for a bifana sandwich, a cod filet sandwich, a bowl of vegetable soup, and two glasses of beer. P.S. Two days later, we returned and had bowls of caldo verde (photo below), which were delicious.

A little rough around the edges, but definitely worth stopping in for a quick bite. The bifana is a bit pricier than I expected, but you get a generous portion of meat inside and it’s full of flavor, so no complaints there. It can be loud and a bit hectic inside, but don’t let that stop you—it’s worth popping in.

The bifana place Bourdain went to was closed for holidays, so I found this (also highly recommended) place. There was a line and it was busy, so I thought I might not get a table (and that that might be a problem) but when I walked in there was a counter where and older Portuguese dude was chowing down on a bifana and a glass of wine, so I just pointed to him, got what he was having and stood there devouring it. One of the best meals I've ever had, and it came in at just a hair under 6 euros. Dead simple and incredibly delicious - sliced pork, bread and (optional, add-it-yourself) mustard. Another absolute must-do when in Lisbon.

Forget fancy frills, Beira Gare is all about that Lisbon street food legend: the bifana. Picture this: a perfectly crisp bread roll cradling a juicy pork steak bathed in a secret (but oh-so-delicious) sauce. One bite and you'll understand why some claim it's the city's bifana king. My only regret? The server could have used a little more pizazz, but hey, you can't have it all, right? Here's what makes Beira Gare a must-try: Bifana Nirvana: The star of the show is undeniably the bifana. The pork is melt-in-your-mouth tender, the sauce is a tangy, savory dream, and the bread? Fresh and fluffy enough to be a champion all on its own. Local Legend Status: This isn't some tourist trap. Beira Gare is a local favorite, and for good reason. You'll be rubbing elbows with Lisbonites who know their bifana, and that's always a good sign. Fast, Casual Eats: Sometimes you just need a quick and delicious bite. Beira Gare hits the spot perfectly. No muss, no fuss, just pure, unadulterated bifana bliss. The verdict? Beira Gare might be no-frills, but their bifana is pure gold. Just be prepared to bring your own good vibes (maybe the server was having an off day?).

Bifana was yummy! The staff were nice. Beira Gare was a great place to have a meal at a reasonable price when you finished a day trip from Sintra. It was closed to Rossio train station.

Our guide recommended this place for the best Bifana in Lisbon. We were not that hungry, but we wanted to try it, we split it and it was tasty. The restaurant is in a great location and we wished we both had been more hungry and tried other items on the menu that looked interesting. Next time.

I wanted to try authentic Portugese food and this seems like the place (I haven't really tried other places). I got the bifana- the pork was nice and juicy, a very simple dish and good with their mustard. I also ordered a soup which I think I liked better than the bifana. Good mix of tourists and locals. Staff was nice and not knowing Portuguese is not a problem.

This restaurant is located just in one of the most popular streets in the city. It's old and it looks old. Any regular dish is over price and the waiter was insisting in selling a bottle.of wine so I decided to just grab a typical snack and get to go.
