The old colonial-style fort is beautifully constructed, and walking through its massive walls gives a glimpse of history and architecture that has stood strong for centuries. The fort itself is well maintained and offers breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea. Right next to it is Bekal Beach, which is clean, lively, and very happening. There are plenty of small stores and eateries around, making it a perfect spot to relax after exploring the fort. The sunset view from both the fort and the beach is simply spectacular. A perfect blend of history and natural beauty — highly recommended for anyone visiting North Kerala!

My visit to Bekal Fort was nothing short of magical. Spread over 40 acres, Bekal Fort is one of the largest and best-preserved forts in Kerala. The moment you walk through its massive gates, you're transported into a world of history. The stone pathways, observation towers, and thick fort walls whisper stories of ancient battles and coastal watchmen. The highlight for me was standing at the edge of the fort, overlooking the vast Arabian Sea. The breeze, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks below, and the view of the sun setting over the horizon made for a truly peaceful and unforgettable moment. The fort is clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. There are also plenty of photo spots, especially from the watchtower which offers a 360° view of the sea and countryside.

The fort is spacious and peaceful, great for leisurely exploration of about 1 to 2 hours. It has basic amenities like restrooms, parking and some shops. The site is accessible and family-friendly, though visiting early morning or late afternoon is best to avoid the heat. The Mukhyaprana Temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman at Bekal Fort is situated close to the fort’s entrance, this temple adds a rich cultural and religious dimension to the historic site. The temple’s traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere provide a perfect spot for quiet reflection amidst the backdrop of the grand fort and sweeping sea views.

Initially it may not feel like, but upon exploring the whole place one will feel it is a must visit. Very well maintained by ASI. Visiting during the monsoon is a plus, with an eye towards safety.
