Rude, Unprofessional Service Overshadows Good Products
I visited Bekker Kohvik on Friday, 11 July around 14:00. While the coffee and pastries I ordered were genuinely delicious, the experience was unfortunately overshadowed by extremely rude service that felt more reminiscent of Soviet times than a modern European café.
After buying a coffee and two pastries, I sat down and began enjoying them. I also had a small protein yogurt with me — something I often bring to cafés to help meet my daily protein intake. A staff member (tall, wearing glasses) approached me abruptly and told me, in a harsh and unfriendly tone, that outside food is not allowed and that next time I would be thrown out (“visatakse välja”).
This wasn’t my first visit — in fact, I had come to Bekker every day that week, often with my mother or friends, and occasionally did the same without issue.
The problem wasn’t the policy, but the way it was enforced — unnecessarily aggressive and degrading. In many other countries, including across Europe, Dubai, and most recently in Moscow, a minor thing like a yogurt is either tolerated or addressed with courtesy. Here, I felt criminalized for something completely harmless.
Unfortunately, despite the quality of the products, I won’t be returning. No coffee is worth that kind of treatment.
