Follow-up Review: Belconnen Way Hotel & Serviced Apartments—07/07/2025 This is a follow-up to the review I posted earlier about the extremely unfortunate experience we had at this hotel. I want to share further details, especially the emotional and practical impact this incident had on our group, three families, including several young children. Although having a fully confirmed and prepaid booking, we arrived on the evening of 07/07/2025 to find that no rooms had been allocated to us. Shockingly, the female duty manager who was on shift dealt with the situation in an unprofessional and dismissive manner. She showed no concern or responsibility and made no attempt to resolve the issue. Instead, she treated us rudely and simply turned us away. What I didn’t mention in my previous review is how difficult that night became for us. In an unfamiliar city, late in the evening, we had to scramble to find alternative accommodation for multiple families. It was a highly stressful and exhausting situation, especially with young children who were already distressed by what they had witnessed. There was no offer of support or assistance from the hotel. This experience was not just a service failure, it was a complete disregard for basic decency and hospitality. We strongly advise other travellers, particularly families, to think twice before booking this property. What happened to us should never happen to anyone.

It's not bad for the price, really. Great location and the staff are nice. The only issue was the fire alarm at 6 AM... I mean, why do people feel the need to burn their toast? What is wrong with you people?! Nice place to meet people and play Uno ;)

These are NOT serviced rooms. If you are staying for 1 or 2 nights this is fine. Not so great when you booked for 10 days. When you arrive you receive a leaflet with information that the rooms are not serviced daily and you have to ask if there is any thing you need. We arrived on a Saturday. We booked and stayed for 10 days and the rooms were not serviced once. So not vacuumed, no bin emptied, nothing. There was no option to hang something on the door asking for the room to be serviced either. We booked a classical room with a double and single bed as my partner snores quite loudly so it's easier to sleep in separate beds. The double sagged badly (see photo). We asked on Sunday if we could could change rooms because of the bed and were shown other rooms with beds that also sagged. The fridge was behind the door to the apartment inside a cupboard with sliding doors, so most times you opened the door it tended to hit the mirrored doors. Luckily the mirror didn't break. There were no power points near the main bed in any of the rooms we were shown, which is a problem when you rely on cpap. We opted on Sunday to stay where we were as nothing we'd been shown was better than what we had. There was a side table with one shelf. We discovered that it didn't have all it's pegs to support it when I put something on the shelf and it promptly slid to the back and fell down to the bottom shelf. On Monday the staff said we could change to a better room as they were not busy, and we were staying another week. We were given a 2 bedroom unit that could sleep up to 5 at no extra cost. The beds didn't sag and there was power near the main bed in one of the rooms. There was also a bigger fridge. This was great! However, in the 2 bedroom unit there was no hair-dryer, no teatowels, (although we had a sink with no plug), pots and pans, and a hotplate in the cupboard. Seeing as a fire alarm went off at 6.30am Sunday morning from someone cooking in their room we didn't use any of it. There was nowhere to hang or store your clothes unless it was in your suitcase or on the only bed not being used. There was shampoo satchets that resisted being torn open in the shower, whereas in the 1st room the shampoo came in a little bottle. I don't understand the inconsistency in room products. The airconditioning was hit and miss. To get the room above 20° we had to set the thermostat to 30. At times you would get a bit hot but most times it struggled to heat the room. You could feel the cold coming up through the floor. I could hear noises and voices coming from other rooms, people in the corridor, doors opening and closing so little to no sound insulation. The extra blanket supplied had someone else's long hair all over it (we both have short hair) and I didn't feel comfortable using it except on the lower end of the bed. This means that they don't check or clean the blankets after use. The curtains are wearing through and need to be replaced soon. The plus side was great wifi, undercover and locked car accommodation. The staff were respectful and courteous when we did talk to them. Overall, the place is in need of better management, maintenance and asset replacement. We are not planning on staying there again and I wouldn't recommend it. I gave it a 3 only because we were given the larger room. It didn't not live up to the advertisements and "Serviced" should be removed from the name.

We stayed for 3 nights, it was further out of the city than I released but it was quiet, walking distance to essential shops, staff were friendly and accommodating. our room was a great size & the beds were comfortable. So overall, the little extra travel time going into Canberra wasn't a big deal considering all the good points.

Even though my booking was for multiple nights, it was stripped and emptied before my final night. The few things I had left (toothbrush/paste, razor, sandals) were taken and disposed of. The room I was moved to shared a very thin wall with the next and the loud TV and laughter/conversations went the whole night so, even with ear plugs, sleep was poor…

Check-in is advertised as 2:00 pm. When I arrived at 5:00 my room wasn't ready! Eventually I was able to check-in at 5:45 pm despite the promise of check-in from 2:00 pm. The room was austere and cold. Outside it was 3° and wet. Be warned. Service is bad.

Rooms were clean, but strong smell of cleaning liquid. Shower water flow was low. Batteries in air conditioner remote were flat. Close to shops and bakery.

Conveniently close to a great cafe and supermarket. EV charging on site - amazing! Clean, beds a little less comfy than I'm used to. A bit of road noise early morning weekdays.

Yelp
A bit hard to believe that this hotel is as busy as it is. Conveniently located right on a main thoroughfare, but not really close to the City of Canberra proper. The hotel is well kept but pretty darn old for a hotel/motel in a capital city. Rooms are good size and come in a variety of configurations. My room had a kitchen and full-size fridge, a couch, and a small table that functioned as desk. Bed linen was cleaned every other day or so. The layout of my colleagues' adjacent rooms was hilariously odd with a shared kitchen and bathroom. All good you say? Well, probably not if you realized one had the bathroom and the other the kitchen and that you had to enter the other person's room to use the facilities!
