On the Grid : Belfry Theatre

"Since 1974, The Belfry has been presenting smart, contemporary theatre right in the heart of Fernwood. A converted church, this local gem is steeped in history: just ask the front desk to fill you in on the lore of Little Iceland! Close to the Fernwood Inn and Stage Wine Bar, it’s a perfect addition to your itinerary. Brimming with live talent, guests are welcome to stop in to watch local creatives come and go, as well as check out whatever’s on the docket for the evening!" - Friends & Neighbors

A wonderful historic theatre that is charming and intimate in atmosphere. Situated in Fernwood Square the heart of the neighbourhood you walk up a flight of stairs and enter into a fresh modern reception lobby. The ticket office and small beverage bar is to your right. Once inside the theatre you notice how close and intimate you are with the stage and can how everything without the use of microphones. It’s a refreshing experience to view a play here.

What a neat little corner of Victoria. And there's the belfry theatre in the middle of it. Very cool. Came here for a show and would come back here if fate brought me again. The boys choir is touring Western Canada so check their website if your interested. The theater is well kept and feels new. Seating could be more comfy but the views and angles are great. Had a chance to go upstairs too.

Saw ‘Burning Mom’ play @ Sat. Nov. 01.25 afternoon performance. Excellent - highly recommend this one woman show! I always enjoy the Belfry & love walking the neighborhood. It is delightful.

Went with my friend to watch the play, 1979 by Michael Healey and we both loved the experience. It was powerful, moving and hilarious! There were only three actors, two of whom played multiple roles or characters, and the acting was excellent!. Each role was performed with passion and conviction. The dialogue and script are wonderful!

Attended “1979”, a humorous play based on Prime Minister Joe Clark’s brief term in office, which ended when his minority government was defeated over his proposed austerity budget. Very animated performances by actors playing Pierre Trudeau, John Crosbie, Flora MacDonald, Maureen McTeer, Brian Mulroney and Stephen Harper. Great stage set in the P/M’s office. I imagine current opponents of the Conservative Party of Canada will love to revisit this “folly”! On the other side, hopefully they will reflect on that “learning moment “!

Great venue. We sat in the second row from the back and felt we had the best seats in the house. Perfect sightline from every seat, lots and lots of legroom, great acoustics, perfect floor slope so no obstruction from the person with the cowboy hat. Excellent maintenance. Coffee shop and restaurant across the street. Looking forward to going back.

Very much enjoyed the play "1979". So much so, I went back fora second time. The Belfry is one of Victoria's best theatres.

Yelp
What a great little theatre! Went to see the Soul Brothers and had a blast! They were very entertaining. Great old theatre that doesn't have air conditioning or indoor plumbing but still worth the trip. Great entertainment and a dove bar was given on the way out! Only in Wisconsin. Gotta love it!
