15 Best Hiking Trails in Sedona, According to Locals

"A sub-mile but moderately challenging scramble to reach a summit marked informally by cairns and rock stacks; the best route can be tricky to find, and many hikers opt to enjoy the formation from the base rather than attempt the climb." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. We decided to climb. Yes. Climb. Not hike. Climb Bell Rock... What an unforgettable experience. Heart pumping. You may experience a bit of anxiety if you're afraid of highs. It also requires some good orientation skills, and very good memory as well. So you can remember which way you went up, so you're able to descend the same way. I recommend hiking boots, and hiking trekking if you want. But once you reach the top. The reward is very gratifying. You'd feel on top of the world, and very satisfied.

This is one of those hikes that totally lives up to the hype. The trail is super accessible, easy to get to, well marked, and you can make it as chill or as challenging as you want. The views are unreal pretty much the entire time, with those classic Sedona red rocks in every direction. You don’t have to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy it, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you can scramble up parts of Bell Rock for even better views. Just bring water, it gets hot and there’s not much shade. Parking can fill up fast, so going early is a good move.

Best hike in the area! The climb will take you a while to figure out the best path to the top but kids can make it up there, so can you! Incredible views from the top

Bell rock is Sedona’s iconic vortex and a must hike. There are multiple parking lots to hike over here. Red rock pass is generally required at the parking lot.

Small bit steep hike! Best hike for sunset! 🌅 Parking is extremely limited, take shuttle or pray for good parking karma like us! lol Do take water bottle, and a good camera. Hike is for all ages, one can climb as high they want, but it could get risky if someone is being reckless.

Easy hike to Bell Rock with views of many of the other nearby iconic rock formations. The higher you climb, the more helpful trekking poles are. As always, carry plenty of water with you to avoid dehydration and wear sunscreen! To Highly recommend this hike!

Pristine, peaceful and reflective place. The red rock is mesmerizing. The directions to the pathway (the path that goes around), trail path and climb (ascent) are extremely confusing. Better signage is definitely required as I see a lot of people lost. Climbing up the rock, requires skill and no fixed path. So better come prepared with proper attire, equipment and shoes. Have a companion or two as it is easy to slip off and get injured. There aren't any guide(s) or staff to guide you around. Once you climb, even partially, the views are amazing and serene.

Nice hike from the parking lot with toilets, although it may get very busy and it'll take you a while to find a parking spot. Also you'll have to pay a $5 fee per vehicle unless you have the National Parks pass which you can just display on the dashboard of your vehicle. The hike is easy at the beginning but if you want to go up to the bell, it will require some scrambling skills over the sand rocks. There is plenty of people going up in several ways, but be careful, especially on the way down and if it has been raining as it will get slippery. Great views from the heights of the bell, and if you go up with your ropes and harness, you'll find some anchors to clip to get to the very top of the hill.
