I dined here on a Thursday afternoon after arriving to New York with a couple of friends, as our airbnb was close to the restaurant. I read many great reviews so I was hopeful, and upon entering, the atmosphere was quite cozy and inviting. There was a nice Christmas tree and the staff allowed us to store our luggage by the tree. We started off with some calamari, which was fried well and tasted great. Then, we shared two mains: rigatoni bolognese and the sausage pizza. We enjoyed the pasta a lot, however, the pizza left much to be desired. It was not that flavourful and the meat was scarce. Also, I felt like it could have been hotter.
Finally, when we paid, I noticed an automatic 20% tip included in the cost. We weren't even a big group, so I don't understand why we would have been charged that without being notified prior. Moreover, be careful not to fall for the "sparkling or spring water?" question if you're not willing to pay almost $10 for a bottle of water; ask for tap. Our bill with two mains, one side, and a drink, came out to be more than $80.
Overall, the food here was decent, but definitely not the best Italian food I've had. The atmosphere was nice, however, the service charges were a bit off-putting and negatively impacted our experience at this restaurant.
