"Located in the heart of Avalon, Bellanca Hotel is a charming boutique accommodation that's ideal for an easy breezy island getaway. The hotel offers oceanfront accommodations, including rooms with spacious balconies that look out to the sea. But its best spaces are found in the common areas, including its rooftop lounge, which is an excellent place to catch a sunset, and the restaurant, The Naughty Fox, where travelers can get heaping plates of sharable bites like nachos, mac n' cheese, and chicken wings." - Travel + Leisure Editors

-Great location. -Can be noisy like others have pointed out, but we weren’t bothered by it when we were up. I’m a heavy sleeper, so I didn’t wake up at all. -Front desk manned 24/7. We had no issues with service. They let you stow your bags by their desk if you get there early. Not super secure, but nice to be offered with the limited space they have. There is luggage storage right off the boats if you need something more secure. -Roof top lounge area was really nice. Great view for sunset and sunrise. -They offer free bikes, towels, and beach chairs. -Received a complimentary drink from the attached restaurant. -Rooms may be small, but we didn’t come here to spend time in the room. Met basic needs. -no gym here, but there are 2 parks on the way to the Botanic Garden that have outdoor equipment that surprisingly met the needs of a good workout, even without heavier weights. Both hilly and flat routes for a good run as well in the Avalon area.

My husband and I stayed here on June 16-19, 2025. We came to the Bellanca a few years ago in Winter and loved it, loved our room, loved the hotel. We wanted the same experience and the same room. We got a Studio Suite room in the back of the hotel in the upper private area. The last time we stayed here, our room seemed bigger, and I was a bit disappointed about how small the room seemed compared to last time, but we ended up really enjoying our stay. The room was clean, although housekeeping did not clean our room the first time we asked the front desk. Before our third and final night, we went up to the front desk and told them we were extremely upset our room was not clean the day before when we had asked them to clean it so they promptly came up and cleaned our room. The linens were clean, white, and fresh and the robe was nice though short. The towels were comfy and clean and they gave us more towels when our room wasn't clean the second night we stayed after we asked them. The outside the patio was amazing. We had a gorgeous view of the city behind us and the ocean in front of us. We loved to sit outside in the comfy chairs and just soak up the view and drink coffee/tea that was provided for us with a Kuerig machine. We had plenty of free water bottles and ice and kept asking for more and more because we drink like fish and they gave it to us all for free. The room had a couch and a little table, but the table was too short for my husband to use his laptop. He said he would have liked a bigger table, but we made do with what we had. Also, there were no nightstands in the room and the closet space was very, very small, just a small wooden box in the room with only enough space to hang our jackets. There were no real drawers to place our clothes in so we left them in the luggage the entire time. The bathroom was made of beautiful Italian marble with a large bathtub that we filled to the top with warm water for our nightly bath soaks. The only thing we didn't like about the bathroom was that the toilet was right next to the wall, giving us little room to sit and do our business and the sink had no area around it to place our bathroom essentials except for a really, really small glass area above the sink to place our toothbrushes. We took really long naps while we were there with the air conditioner on full blast and really loved our bed. It was sooooo comfortable. Also, our room had a refrigerator where we placed food we bought from the market and left over food from the restaurant. We are definitely coming back again to the Bellanca hotel for a simlar Studio Suite room, hopefully next time, a bigger one light last time, but even though there were things we didn't like about this room, we may request the same room again because the view outside looking towards the ocean was amazing. Oh, and the hotel gave us two free drink vouchers worth $!5 each for mixed drinks at the Naughty Fox which we used and enjoyed.

The hotel was lovely and the view from the rooftop was perfection. It’s right on the boardwalk and pretty much beachfront so you’re in the perfect spot. Lots of restaurants and local storefronts, everything is very walkable. It’s also only a 10 minute walk from the ferry dock so you don’t have to track too far. They also have bicycles that you can rent to go around the island. The staff were also super friendly and very welcoming throughout the stay. The room was decently sized, however the walls are paper thin so you will hear other guests really clearly.

Google
Absolutely incredible! It blows my mind that there are any reviews that aren’t 5/5. I can with my girlfriend and it was perfect. The service is INCREDIBLE. The front desk is so friendly and so helpful. I 100% recommend staying here. The rooms are beautiful, there’s an amazing rooftop with tons of seating and an amazing view. The bar and restaurant is fantastic with a great view of the ocean. The location is perfect and right across the street from the sand/water. 10/10 experience, we saw bad reviews and almost didn’t stay here and I couldn’t be happier with this place. Will DEFINITELY be coming back. Cannot stress enough, how amazing this place is, especially for the price & location.

Google
For as beautiful as the island is… Absolutely no rest! Could hear everything going on. People walking in the room above— their sliding glass door opening and closing. Sliding glass door- people talking in the common areas. Even heard the golf carts flying down the roads. Room was not cleaned well— sliding glass door was discussing to open and close… I don’t believe that’s ever been cleaned.

Amazing experience, wonderful staff, and beautiful views! Bellanca Hotel is 10/10!! My now fiancé and I went for a week to Catalina and the Bellanca hotel made my experience and my engagement go just as perfectly as I imagined. They were so accommodating, so friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed for an amazing trip! I highly recommend and I will be staying there again!

The Bellanca Hotel is ideally located, close to the Casino, with a direct view on the harbor and access to the beach. The staff was very helpful and went above and beyond to help us - they gave my son a little souvenir, he was delighted to get it. Rooms are cosy, extremely clean, and have all that is needed. The only thing we liked less about our stay is not about the hotel per se but that some guests talked loudly in the common area until midnight to the point it was hard to sleep. When we notified the staff they took care of it.

The Bellanca Hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the Catalina Island ferry, located in a prime area near lots of local businesses and restaurants. The room itself was cozy but extremely clean and well maintained. Perfect size for a couple of solo traveler. The bed was also really comfortable and I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillows. Check-in and check-out was easy and the staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially after our ferry got delayed due to weather. There is also a beautiful sun deck area where you can sit out and enjoy the views as well!||||One thing to note, there are no elevators (only stairs) so you need to call ahead of time and ask for accommodations on the first floor if you need them.

Yelp
Worth every penny. Staying here is a bit on the higher side $$$-$$$$ but worth it. The room (deluxe cabana king), roomy and very modern. Loved the location. The beach was right in front of the hotel and our room was right behind the front desk down a private hallway. Don't be fooled about it being behind the front desk...it was quiet & no traffic of people. Our patio was so nice to sit out in and enjoy the harbor view. We did go up to the deck (upstairs, open to all guests) and enjoyed having our brunch or lunch while soaking up the view. We did try out the restaurant, naughty fox, for brunch. I had the bagel breakfast sandwich & my hubby had the French toast. Very yummy. The staff were very accommodating. There's a coffeemaker (keurig) in the room, a fridge, microwave and other amenities. You can go to the front desk and ask for water bottles, coffee pods, tea bags, towels etc and it's provided no problem. Really did enjoy the greetings "welcome back, good morning, have a nice evening" from the staff. Overall, highly recommend this hotel for its convenience, location (everything within a 5 min walk) and hospitality. Will definitely stay here again with my family. Thank you Bellanca Hotel for a relaxing and memorable stay.

Yelp
STAFF LIES, NO ELEVATOR FOR BAGS, AIR CONDITIONER IS BROKEN Enjoyed our first three days in a cheaper room near the back of the hotel so we decided to extend and were told we could move rooms but would have to pay $200 more to have a bigger room as a all else was unavailable. We agreed and on the appointed day, packed all of our belongings and were told the front room with the wraparound balcony would be ours so I was happy to wait till three and not have access to a room all day since we would have the view and chairs enough for my parents to come sit outside. We were asked later if we still wanted to wait since there was a maintenance issue in the room and I said yes we wanted that room. We took a bus tour at 3 that had been booked the day before and as we drove past the hotel I saw a bunch of people on the balcony of our supposed room. I texted the hotel in a panic and found out that our room had been given away with no warning. They lied and said they had been mistaken and there was a reservation for that room but I asked why they had asked if we were willing to wait through a maintenance issue. They put us in a crappy room with a very tiny balcony and BROKEN air conditioning. The room is hot as hell and the unit has been screeching all evening and leaking air. This place sucks and the staff lies. I way overpaid for why we got. The sink in the bathroom has no hot water at all, the tap doesn't work at all from the hit faucet. I haven't slept at all so in here I was hoping to wash my face. Room also needs black out curtains. It's bright as day in this room at 7:25 am.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my 3-night stay here! The location, customer service, and amenities were all fantastic. The location was perfect, close to everything, but on the opposite side of the ferry and just past the pedestrian promenade so that it wasn't too loud and crowded out front. There was a beach right across from the hotel, and it was definitely the least crowded of the beaches on a daily basis. The hotel had a great rooftop/sun deck that looked out to the water. It had plenty of chairs and tables, and was the perfect spot to enjoy a meal or wind down for the day. Two of the mornings there we brought breakfast up to eat while enjoying the view. Some of the chairs were pretty weathered and worn, but they had pillows so they were still comfortable. Other standout amenities were the bikes and the beach chairs, both of which we available at no extra cost. Bikes were a little weathered and not all of the seats moved on them, but they were so fun to ride around town and a quick and easy way to get the the beach club. After we checked out, we had a while before our ferry and they still let us use the chairs to enjoy the beach across the street while we passed the time. We had a king room. It felt spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room had a microwave and mini fridge, both of which came in handy. The walls were a little thin so you could hear your neighbors muffled conversations, but that was the only complaint I had about the hotel, and even that wasn't so bad that it kept me up. Would absolutely stay here again when visiting Catalina Island!

Yelp
This hotel is one of the best locations on Avalon bay. It's right across the beach and very close to island spa, beach club and casino. We don't usually stay at hotels in Avalon cause our family has a condo here. This time we decided to just stay overnight for fun. This is a cute little boutique hotel with enough amenities. I appreciated the 24 hour front desk. Our room was fairly spacious but this is Avalon so rooms are relatively smaller in general. The naughty fox on site restaurant and bar is where we frequent whenever we are in town. The rooftop deck is great to hang out when the sun is out. They also have bikes for hotel guests to use. Think about this hotel as a cozy place to relax and enjoy. Overall our stay was pleasant enough, staffs were friendly and helpful. I think it's a great choice of hotel stay in Avalon for visitors!

Susan S.

Yelp
Very clean, updated property. Small but tastefully decorated rooms. Very nice staff. The location is perfect! Nice sun deck to relax in. Free bicycle use to explore the island. The Sly Fox restaurant is located in the lobby. Full bar and very good lunch menu. Only down side was the room A/C is super loud. Not the most comfortable beds either. The island has gone through a huge updating in the last 15 years. Restaurants, stores, museums etc. have been gentrified. Catalina has so much to offer.

BC V.

Yelp
We loved our room! We had the king size bed and it was very comfortable. The room was right next to the entrance to the restaurant and surprisingly it was quiet inside the room. We were able to drop off our luggage with Avalon blue line baggage as complementary service which was great. We will come back!

Katherine P.

Yelp
Location was great right across the street from the beach, staff was super friendly but the hotel itself had a weird set up. I had a room on the first floor and you walk into a courtyard type area reminded me of the show Melrose Place and the you enter your room through a glass sliding patio door. Good thing they did have black out curtains but you can hear everything. Walls and ceilings paper thin. Room smelt a little musty but was clean for the most part. Bed was somewhat comfy, there was a refrigerator and microwave although I didn't use either one. I didn't see an elevator and the hotel had at least 3 floors but maybe I just missed it. They do have a cool rooftop patio seating area which was a great place to lounge.

Kelley T.

Yelp
We stayed in the luxury ocean view suite, truly an amazing room. The view of the beach and bay were perfect. The small patio area was great to take in the sun and views. You can feel the breeze once you open the big window and folding door. Also the staff helped me to surprise my husband with champagne and strawberries for our anniversary which made it extra special.

Deena R.

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel with friendly and kind staff! Sandra welcomed us and brought us up a bottle of champagne chilled with ice to celebrate my birthday weekend. The room was clean. The bed was so comfortable, and the views were amazing. I can't say enough about the rooftop area you can sit up there bring your own alcohol and watch the sunset. As we left, we stopped by the naughty fox and had brunch and it was absolutely delicious and the staff was so friendly. I believe Julian was our server and he's lived on the island his whole life so he told us a few stories and we loved it! Can't wait to come back!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
My family and I came here for vacation we had the experience! All thanks to Daniel he was beyond amazing. He made us feel welcome. We need more people like him. Thank you, Daniel for the best experience. God bless you!

Trenton M.

Yelp
This hotel was wonderful. I would 10/10 stay here again. We got the ocean view studio suite to celebrate our engagement and it could not have been better! They even had a bottle of champagne and glasses with a hand written letter to congratulate us! The front desk staff is very friendly and remember their guests. You should definitely book this place.

Sheryl B.

Yelp
Hotel has been stripped of all its charm since becoming Bellanca from the previous Villa Portofino. For this long time guest we will make an effort to find another spot when we return to Catalina Island. Seems the Bellanca's mission is simply to make money over providing a nice guest experience.

Perlee P.

Yelp
We stayed here for my boyfriend's birthday weekend get away, the girls Sandra and Betsy were amazing, so helpful and sweet, they had champagne and dessert available when we walked in the room. It was clean and had the best view. I would recommend you stay here if it's your fist time in Catalina, it's is close to everything. The service was the best!!

Phillip P.

Yelp
1 word, Amazing. Shoutout out Emeli. She and the rest of the staff where hospitable, friendly and attentive. My room was quaint and relaxing. Small but cozy. It's modern and up to date. Also, shoutout to James my bartender. Great guy and informative. Great selection! I will be back soon. I found a new home here. Love Catalina!!!

Heather M.

Yelp
Location!!!!!! Really pretty, but super quirky hotel with an interior courtyard and lots of levels. No elevator that I could see, so only book this hotel if you can hoof it upstairs. One room was ready early, so we were able to stash luggage and get exploring. Rate was high dilute to summer season, but amenities were nice. Water, beach towels, bikes and luggage transport back to the ferry all included. Overall, this place was worth the $$$$ because it was a short walk from the arriving ferry, right on the main drag and right in front of the water. Did I mention the rooftop space

Mikaiah S.

Yelp
We decided to stay the night in Catalina Island for our Anniversary and chose Bellanca Hotel for its reasonable price and excellent location. We arrived around 9am, and though we couldn't check in until 3pm, they let us drop our luggage off while we explored the island. The property is clean and well designed. I actually wish we were staying one more night so I could take advantage of the roof top relaxation area and complimentary bikes they offer. The rooms are small but clean and cozy. The bed is very comfortable, I'm actually lying in the bed as I write my review, lol. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I appreciate that they left us a Happy Anniversary gift and card. We haven't eaten at their restaurant but one of the other guests said they have some of the best food on the island. All in all, I really like this hotel. We are having a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this property. Shout out to Sheila! She helped us every step of the way. Her customer service was outstanding!

Leslie F.

Yelp
AMAZING! Beautiful beach hotel directly across from the beach and a rooftop with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Very clean and good customer service! FYI, they will offer to take your luggage at the Avalon Blue Line Baggage which is literally steps away from the boarding area!

Philip K.

Yelp
The Bellanca Hotel is a short couple of steps away from the beautiful and scenic shore line of Catalina. The views are spectacular. Service was wonderful and we were taken care of each step of the way. I highly recommend this hotel for a quick stay.

Kaitlynn M.

Yelp
We went for our anniversary trip to Catalina. They were extremely helpful and clean. Rayna, the front desk, was extremely attentive and quick. The hotel also offers bike rental, beach towels, and folding chairs. I recommend staying here and I would stay again.

Art T.

Yelp
Paper thin walls, extremely noisy. Staff not accommodating. Tried to request late checkout (12pm) due to scuba excursion, was told to request at time off arrival. Requested at time of arrival was told to request day of checkout in the morning. Called at 6am to request checkout for 12pm was told they can only do 11am, asked if I can leave my luggage to not drag around the island was told they didn't have storage. I asked again if they be able to please extend late checkout from 11am to 12pm as the scuba excursion was at 10am they said not. Not extremely accommodating and had I known this during booking would've looked elsewhere.

Liz G.

Yelp
We stayed at Bellanca Hotel for my birthday celebration and I loved it! The employees were amazing and accommodating.

Mariya B.

Yelp
Very cute boutique hotel right across from the beach! Great customer service, great amenities that include free bike rentals, beach chairs and access to private roof top to enjoy the amazing beach views. The restaurant that is connected to them is delicious with great food and drinks! Highly recommend!

Supriya J.

Yelp
We were excited to visit Catalina after many years to celebrate a birthday: PROs: Very convenient location, walking distance from the ferry with a shared outdoor rooftop with views of the water, bikes available to borrow CONS: As many mentioned, it definitely has a motel vs. hotel feel, the rooms are TINY, we found that many of the room features we just cheaply done (no closet, but there are coat hooks - but everytime we took our coats off the hook - the entire hook would come off), there are scratches and scuffs throughout the room (feels unattended to), the walls are paper thin - the people in the room next door were on the phone and we could hear every word - we also found it odd that with so much vacancy (you can tell which rooms are occupied) that they chose to place guests next to each other with the noise issues. The clock & phones were unplugged for some reason so had to move furniture to plug things in). For nearly $300/night for weekdays (Wed-Fri) in the off season (Oct), it felt VERY overpriced. The benefit of the location did not offset the other issues unfortunately.

Yelp
This hotel underwent a complete renovation (partially still under construction as of 10/10/20) and is only 2 months old. It was previously known as Portofino Hotel. I love how it's located a few steps away from the water and right down center to all the restaurants and shops. There's an exclusive sun deck that's perfect to catch the sunset all while bringing your food to enjoy at the comfort of your own time. The hotel offers complimentary bike rentals for 4 hours long. You can ask for more time if there's no wait list but definitely would have to return the bike by the 4-hour mark and check in with the front for extension. As for rooms, it was rather on the smaller side. While I did enjoy the newly bright white and clean appeal, it felt crowded. However, this is the perfect size if you're planning to spend more time outside rather than indoors. While breakfast is typically complimentary, we were unable to utilize this accommodation due to construction. Fortunately, they do have a revamped kitchen next door called "The Naughty Fox" which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here, despite it being slightly small. It's convenient access to shops, eateries and the water outweighed it all.

Amanda F.

Yelp
Exceptional hotel & customer service hospitality. The front desk girl, Jessica, was the sweetest & so accommodating. This was our first time visiting Catalina Island for my birthday. Upon arrival, they left me a birthday card & fresh macaroons in our room! Such a kind touch. Bellanca was the most perfect hotel & location. The rooftop deck is like no other on the island with an ocean view. It's great to enjoy breakfast with a view or unwind with a drink at sunset. The hotel offers free bike & beach chair rentals. This was a plus! My boyfriend & I enjoyed taking the bikes on a little ocean side ride to Descanso Beach Club. We also enjoyed using the beach chairs at the beach across the street. Not to mention, our room didn't come with a refrigerator but when we asked Jessica, they brought us a refrigerator & a microwave to our room the next morning! This was awesome. The hotel is walking distance to everything. There is a restaurant & bar downstairs at the hotel named The Naughty Fox. Our food & drinks were amazing. My boyfriend said it was the best burger he had in a long time. I got the blackened shrimp bowl & it was divine. Also, there is a restaurant next door named M Restaurant that we also recommend! It was delicious as well. In the morning we took a short walk to the cutest little alley way Metropole Market Place where we found Catalina Coffee & Co. They have great coffee, breakfast bagels & pastries! Overall it was a great 3 night trip! Catalina is a beautiful little island. We will be returning & we will be staying at the Bellanca Hotel every time! Thank you Bellanca!

Cherie J.

Yelp
Bellanca O how I love thee.... This Hotel is Amazing, as for all the negative reviews you might want to Stay in the Ocean front Studio Suite yes its expensive 600.00 a Night but worth it the Ocean View is beautiful especially at Night, Our window opened all the way which was a plus, Staff was Nice and friendly especially the guy that works the Bar a Super cool guy, The Naughty Fox is the Best Breakfast I've had in a while everything was Cooked perfect and it was Hot.... We were on a Mother daughter Trip and we loved this Hotel and we will be returning next year and Staying in the same room.

Lisa T.

Yelp
Great location, service, location . Room was just right. Walking distance to everything. Would recommend and would stay here again!

Deidra D.

Yelp
Visited Catalina island recently. We Booked our stay for the weekend here, The hotel had a nice cozy feel to it, The rooms were clean and nice as well. However, There was no Iron in the room and no full length mirror, which is unheard of. Also the sliding barn door used as the bathroom door is no bueno. Privacy is essential! On the flip side the staff was amazing! Everyone greeted us with a smile and was full of recommendations for things to do and places to eat. They have a bar/restaurant next to the check in area which was great since our room was not yet ready. We enjoyed cocktails and conversation with the Sam the bartender and the manager! They were both super nice. The food that came out of the kitchen looked amazing, I tried the grilled jumbo shrimp with coconut rice bowl. This is a must have, a complete flavor explosion! The shrimp were cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. if the kitchen was open on Monday I would have reordered it again! 4 cocktails later our room was ready and to my surprise the hotel placed a birthday card with fresh macaroons which were delicious in my room, Its the little things that mean so much!! :-) Thanks Bellanca hotel for making our stay even better on the island. We will definitely stay here on our next visit and recommend others to do the same. The roof top top deck is pretty epic also.

Jesse J.

Yelp
Marcos at the Bellanca Hotel is the magician of smiles! Welcomed me with a grin bigger than my suitcase. I half-expected him to pull a rabbit out of the check-in counter. Marcos, you've turned reception into such an easy process, and I'm the happiest audience member! I will definitely be staying here again next month. 5 stars for the check-in!

Alex L.

Yelp
Stayed here on my birthday and it was a pleasant stay! The hotel had complimentary bikes for rent which I made use of. They were only available to be rented up until 7pm in mid May, so I'm not sure if they push that time further as the sun sets later in June, but it would have been nice to have them just a tad longer. The room itself was recently renovated. The room I stayed in was pretty small, but very comfortable and homey. It could have used a tad more storage space, but overall felt clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. I saw they had some other rooms with fireplaces and those looked really nice! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, the staff were all really nice and you can't beat the location on Catalina Island! There is an upstairs terrace that beautifully overlooks the water, perfect to enjoy a drink and the seabreeze.

Ronda B.

Yelp
We booked 2 nights here for an event. Paid a premium for an ocean front room. 3 days before the event we were told we had only booked one night and they would have to move us to a different room. Same price. Awful room. Don't stay here.

Diane F.

Yelp
We stayed at the Bellanca for 4 nights to celebrate my husband's birthday. His family met up and stayed there as well. It was WONDERFUL! We loved the location (steps to the beach/bay) and the roof top deck! Everything is within walking distance... The staff was AMAZING! They allow you to borrow their cool beach cruisers or check out beach towels. There's a great bar/food right there in the hotel. They made us feel welcome and it was just We will never forget this wonderful place and will be back to stay 100%!

Melanie G.

Yelp
Sandra, oh Sandra. Where do we start. You were a gracious Saint. We really could not wait to see your happy face each morning. Thank you for being so warm & kind. Our room change may have been a rough start, but the Prosecco and Anniversary card were so sweet. We loved our ground floor room with the cutest patio and ocean view. Room 107. AC worked great, all the staff made our stay special. Thank you!! We will definitely be recommending you to our friends. Cheers from the Greers

Danielle P.

Yelp
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The room had a very musty smell and caused me to experience lung and sinus issues, with everything feeling wet to touch. We ultimately chose to leave a day early because we were concerned re: mold and the dampness. The hotel refused to give us a refund for the night. The floor in room 210 has some weird lumpy issue to the left of the bed that was disconcerting and a bathroom door that is broken. Beyond that, the rooms are dark, cramped and dirty. I made the mistake of looking too closely around and was grossed out by the hairs, dirt, and general scruffiness of the place. The fact that no one is wearing masks nor concerned about COVID but continue to not clean the rooms is a huge red flag. Management clearly is trying to save on labor and costs at the expense of guests by not reinstating room cleaning, and it's unacceptable. But on the whole the staff is giving ambivalent and disassociated. The two upsides were a great meal at the naughty fox and comfortable beds. Nonetheless, I would not stay here unless you are okay with a motel experience for a luxury price tag.

Justine L.

Yelp
HORRIBLE HOTEL! Sandra with the horrific red hair is the worst front desk worker, I've ever met. Does the Bellanca hotel hire anybody??? BEWARE! Please don't stay at this hotel. The room we had was the size of a bathroom, the fireplace in the room kept turning on and off like the room and place was haunted. The reviews at this hotel were misleading. We wanted to switch rooms but front desk is apparently closed at 8pm. What front desk is closed? The next day ruined because I didn't get a full nights rest and no one wanted to accommodate us on the room we stayed in. It was a tiny room and front desk was extremely rude, Sandra really made the stay uncomfortable and will NEVER stay here ever again. I had the option to choose Mt. Ada and Pavillion Hotel and I regret it so much that I chose Bellanca hotel. This was supposed to be a relaxing stay at the island and it was a disaster because of how horrible our experience was at this 0 star hotel. I'd give this 0 stars for the room, service and front desk if I could. Please stay away!!! They need to keep better check in their management, save your money go elsewhere!!!!

Yelp
Location. Location. Location. The Bellanca Hotel is located at the end of the main drag (Crescent Ave.) in Catalina, about a 10 minute walk from the Catalina Express dock. Since it's at the end of the Crescent Ave., it's a little more private than some other hotels on Crescent, yet it's super close to all the action. The hotel staff was always friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, and the fireplace gave it nice a ambiance. Pro tips: Be sure to grab a drink from The Naughty Fox (the hotel bar downstairs) and head up to the rooftop deck for some people watching and ocean views below. Each time we went to the deck, it was uncrowded and peaceful. If you are planning to grab a drink from downstairs (and it happens to be the off-season- aka late fall/winter), I'd recommend going sooner rather than later. The bar closes at 6 most days of the week, but will close early when it's not busy. We showed up a little after 4 PM and they already closed up shop for the day. Looking forward to staying here next time we're in Catalina!

Yelp
We stayed here for my birthday trip and I'm happy to say we made the right choice! Front desk staff were all very welcoming & friendly. We were checked into our room right away. Room was VERY clean- no complaints whatsoever. I read before hand that they do not have full body mirrors, a closet or iron. We ironed all our clothes at home so that wasn't an issue for us. (: they have a small drawer for your clothes and a couple hangers were available. Bikes are available for guest to use, just sign a waiver. You can leave your bag at the hotel & they'll take it to the dock for you on the day you check out. Restaurants, the beach, grocery store were all within walking distance. 10/10 would stay here again next time! Also, thank you for the birthday macaroons!! BTW beautiful view on the rooftop. Go check it out.

Yelp
We were a party of 4 my husband, two friends and myself. Our vacation started out a bit stressful due to a minor emergency for our friends who couldn't make it on the first day. The reservation was under their name which could have caused us a problem however Max at Bellanca Hotel was AWESOME! He was very kind, professional and helpful! Our stay there was so wonderful we were planning our next visit before we left! Our rooms were Beautiful, clean and very importantly had a Keurig We really enjoyed the rooftop deck and it's gorgeous water view! Honestly we loved everything about the hotel and our memorable stay! Added bonus bike rental was included , we soooo enjoyed that Thank you Bellanca staff, you're the Best!!!

Yelp
Had the most wonderful stay at the Bellanca and can't recommend it enough!! We did have a small hiccup with booking, but the awesome staff made sure to make it up with a beautiful ocean view suite and even a little surprise for our anniversary! They have a lot of amenities to take advantage of, a great restaurant downstairs, and a really nice shared deck area with a view of the water. I highly suggest coming here if you're looking for a cute boutique hotel with views!

Yelp
Just got back from a 3 day stay and this is probably one of the few nice hotels in Catalina. They also have a nice rooftop which over looks the beach. The staff is very friendly from the from desk to the staff at the restaurant. The rooms were clean but very small. Rooms get pretty hot if the AC is not on. Other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Ants all over our room! Upon arrival our room had a very terrible smell and we noticed ants everywhere! We called the front desk and they sent over a maintenance man with bug spray. Really? We went downstairs and asked to be put in another room and they accommodated. I'm giving two stars because they handled the inconvenience very gracefully however I do not think the quality of the rooms matches what you're paying for. The rooms are just okay . They could definitely upgrade the decor and rooms. I feel like the style is very motel ish. The pictures look way better then actual in person. Biggest sell of this place is that they're close to the water.

Yelp
Covid Review (yellow tier) I walked by this hotel when I stayed on the island in September 2020. They were still undergoing a remodel so I bookmarked them on Yelp to check back into the reviews and pictures before I booked my next stay on the island. The remodeled rooms looked great on Yelp and the reviews told me that I would want an upgraded room and not the standard Courtyard or Garden view room since I'm bougie and want a balcony/patio. There weren't a lot of photos of the upgraded rooms on Yelp so I took a bunch of ours so you can see everything. I haven't vacationed much since Covid so I wanted to make sure this was trip was extra nice. We booked the Cabana King Deluxe Room and were thrilled with this room. The room was super spacious and fully upgraded. We had a balcony facing the street which we loved and drank coffee on every morning. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the bathroom was great with new upgraded everything. We had a mini fridge in our room which came in handy for our wines and coffee creamers we bought. There was a Keurig coffee machine in our room with regular and decaf coffees and some sugars, substitutes, dry creamers, etc. The only unusual part about our room was the closet area was next to the bathroom and not enclosed meaning it was open. The bathroom mirror had a light inside of it which we loved. The shower area had a nice bench towards the back and a small window to see into the room or out the sliding glass doors to the balcony/street. Due to Covid (yellow tier) they are not having maid service, but you just call the front desk and tell them what you need and they run it over to you. The front desk people were always very pleasant and helpful no matter what time of day or night. The rooftop deck was really nice and we had our own happy hour up there one day at one of the tables. You can bring your own food and drink up there or order something from the Naughty Fox. I was hoping to have brunch up on the rooftop in the morning, but the Naughty Fox doesn't open until 11am and has no brunch items on their menu. The hotel has a bunch of beach cruisers that they let their guests use. On our last day we checked out two plus a lock from the front desk and rode to the other side of Avalon for breakfast. Afterwards, we rode around towards the Casino and around town. It was lovely to have these to use. I have stayed at a few different hotels on the island and this one by far is the nicest. I would definitely stay here again in Room 109.

Yelp
Even though the rooms are tiny at this hotel, the friendly staff and fun bikes and proximity to the bay more than made up for the tiny, dark rooms. If you do Catalina right, you shouldn't spend much time in the room, anyway! I highly recommend the Italian restaurant next door, too. My wife and I had a great time, and we'll be back to stay at the Bellanca. Don't read the bad reviews by crotchety naysayers who need to get a life. ;)

Yelp
Do not stay here!!! This hotel was beyond disappointing and gross. To start off the hotel looks nothing like the photos everything feels, looks and is dirty. The photos of the room I saw before booking made me want to splurge and spend the $400 for one night... Immediately after walking and seeing the hotel I knew I was in for it and as soon as going into the room immediately tried to cancel my stay and go to absolutely any other hotel in the area but I was told it was non refundable so I ate the cost and still booked another hotel anyways because I couldn't imagine staying at this hotel. The bedding was dirty with what looked like a a suspicious human liquid splatter on it, the room smelt musty and had a gross stench, there was trash on the floor in the bathroom and so many other things. Please please do not stay at this hotel!!

Yelp
Amazing place to stay !! We went to celebrate my girlfriend's bday and this place made everything run smoothly. This place is very beautiful, simple, and right in the middle of everything. The best part was waking up and walking over to the balcony and seeing the morning sunrise. It's a beautiful scenery of the entire island! From the booking processes, all the way until we checked out, their customer service was wonderful. They know how to treat their guests 100%.

Yelp
There are 2 rooms overlooking the water. The rest are buried inside. The setup is the same as a motel, with all doors exiting to the outside. Most of the interior room doors are sliding glass patio doors. There was no housekeeping due to COVID, according to the front desk. They were very responsive when we asked for anything. The roof deck is a great place to sit and eat. Our room was right underneath the deck, and you can hear everything that happens up there. Fortunately, it closes at 10 p.m.

Yelp
This was an absolutely amazing stay! The room, the location, the views, the amenities... I can't recommend it enough. It was a little pricier than we wanted to spend, but it was totes worth it! We wanted the full experience and going with the Luxury Ocean View Suit was more than rewarding. I usually like to see customer photos compared to the business photos, but this room was exactly as expected. We would've stayed longer than two nights. We were pretty much in the heart of everything. Didn't mind the walk from the dock to our hotel or back to the golf cart rentals. We didn't get to rent a golf cart, but took advantage of the hotel's bikes which are free to guests and 4 hours max. They are only one speed so I don't recommend trying to go up a hill, but great for cruising around. They also have beach chairs that are free to guests and although we didn't get to take advantage of those either, they were lightweight enough to carry to any beach. There is also a great rooftop lounge area overlooking the town and ocean, just breathtaking. I'd come back here in a heartbeat. Thank you to the staff for a great experience.

Yelp
Went with my girlfriend for a couple of days and can say this is the nicest, coziest, most modern hotel I've ever been to. Staff was very welcoming, free bikes for up to 4 hours, and free baggage service where they send it to a baggage claim for you right across from where the boat departs so you don't have to carry it the whole day you leave. Very friendly staff and very nice getaway. Very pleased with my vacation because of Bellanca.

Yelp
We were put in room 408 which was supposed to be a courtyard view room. This room was crammed next to the cleaning facilities and looked at (and smelled like) piles of dirty sheets. There was absolutely no view of the courtyard. The decor was not as advertised either. The centerpiece of the room was a college fridge with a large microwave stacked on top and there was a pile of dirty toilet paper (poop and hair) left behind the toilet. To add insult to injury, the outlets (and therefore the lights, clock and charging station) on the left side of the bed did not work. It took us three attempts to find a working outlet for my husband's phone. Rather than offer me a discount, I was offered a $10 bottle of champagne (I don't drink, so thanks?) and to pay more for a better room the next day. I refused to pay more, when I never got the room that was advertised to me in the first place. Finally they agreed to move me to an actual courtyard room the next day. No discount on my $450 a night stay or recognition that room 408 was not as advertised was ever given. The rest of the stay was fine, but overall it felt overpriced. They are just lucky that options are limited on the small island and their location is fantastic.
