Belle Isle Suspension Bridge

Great views of the river and downtown. The clouds reflecting on the river are beautiful.

This is a very nice bridge to the island. It is definitely busy with a lot of hikers, runners, pedestrians and cyclists And it can be a little bit shaky and sway when cyclists go by. But overall it's a cool way to get to the island and it's also worth stopping at various points on the bridge to take photos of the scenery including the river and the City.

This is one the very unique suspension bridge we enjoy walking. This gives a very beautiful vast view of James river and Richmond downtown Belle isle. This one of the way to get to the other side on the island and explore rock view Hollywood rapids which is further down the path. The bridge itself as it is called shakes a bit as you walk along and hear rushing vehicles above you which is the interstate traffic. So you have a combination of sounds of river water breezy wind and traffic all surrounded by beautiful nature. A must see place to observe it all and enjoy the history it offers. We saw people running, hiking, biking and even skating. It’s also nice way to see birds near water and white water rafters and some on their canoe. Must see while in Richmond.

Beautiful pedestrian suspension bridge over James River rapids. Go in the fall for beautiful views! The Belle Island parking lot will get you closest the entry way to the bridge. Parking lot opens at 9am. If parking is full, there is free, 4 hour street-side parking along the back of the VA War Memorial. Once you cross the unique bridge, you can follow the trail runs along the river with great views. Popular trail for bikers and runners. Highly recommend!

Beautiful view and fun to walk across.

If anyone is new to this bridge, set the navigation to 'Bells Isle Parking Lot' first. After parking the vehicle walk all the way inside of the lot, turn left to walk toward the Tredegar St, turn right towards the over path and you'll see the ramp that leads to the suspension bridge. It is a suspension bridge so at times you can feel the bridge swinging at times depending on volume of pedestrians and do watch out for groups of mountain bikers riding through the bridge to get to/from Belle Isle. They'll fly through the bridge and especially around ramps.

Very nice place to walk and run if you are in the vicinity. Isle itself is very scenic with nice trail. You can see Richmond downtown skyline on one side and rapids in the river James on the other. Parking is limited if you are driving there. There are ramps on both sides so you can take a wheelchair, electric scooter or bicycles on the othe re side to ride on the trail.

This bridge is really cool! Don’t trust the google maps directions for it though, it will try to make you walk up above for the main highway for cars. Instead walk on Tredegar St the whole time until you dead end at Dominion Energy, then you can take the ramp up to the pedestrian bridge.
