We visited Zanzibar late October / early November after two weeks of safari on mainland Tanzania. After three days in Stone Town, we expected to come to a nice place which we could use as a base for day trips - which we did (diving, dining, photographing monkeys) but to be honest, we mainly hung out at Bellevue!||||The setting is beautiful and lush: you're basically living in a garden, surrounded by flowers and visited by a troupe of monkeys most mornings. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, and we immediately felt very much at home. Lounging about in the hammock, the swinging bench, on the terrace or playing bao in the restaurant area - there's games, books, a schedule with high/low tide times and of course the beach close by, just go down the stairs and walk about 50 meters along the wall of the house down there (go for early morning swims if the tide is right!)||||We also expected to go out for lunch and dinner regularly (the staff can aid you in any transport and restaurant tips you might need), but the cooks at this place are so good (and the food is so well priced) that we really didn't want to go anywhere else! There's a daily changing menu for lunch and dinner, with fresh food and fruit and a seafood special if you order in advance. ||Every morning we really enjoyed our breakfast (homemade granola!) while our room was being cleaned, the dogs (and monkeys) greeting us. If you leave for an early dive trip, they can prepare some pancakes + banana in advance so you won't have to dive on an empty stomach.||||Nice details: for $1 a day you can refill your bottles as much as you need or want, with cool potable water; there's a tiny giftshop with locally made products; Bellevue and neighboring guesthouses provide guards to walk you back home in the dark along the beach if you've come or gone somewhere else for dinner; there are a lot of books around for you to read, as well as board games; they have a laundry service and provide hammam towels for free use at the pool or beach.||And since there was some weather damage to the jungle room, we got a free upgrade to a lovely garden view room with a veranda (with which we'd been happier anyway since it's further away from the main area and the pool). ||||Lastly the staff: both owner Debby and assistant manager Linford were very friendly and accommodating, and there was always someone present to help you with whatever you wanted to ask. Compliments again to the chefs, and I loved our little chats at the bar. Again, everyone made you feel very welcome and at home!||||It was the perfect place to visit for a week; wish we could've stayed longer - thanks again!
