Bellinter House

"Designed in 1750 by Richard Castle, the architect who created Dublin’s Parliament Building, Bellinter House was for centuries a sprawling estate and more recently a convent. Now this meticulously restored Palladian-style gem, on 12 green acres a 45-minute drive north of Dublin, has opened as a country house hotel with a hip twist. Cowhide covers the original pitch pine flooring, and tasteful embellishments, such as the modern artworks and the white paper bull’s-head wall sconce, give a contemporary feel to this house of vast proportions. The 34 rooms couldn’t be more comfortable, and there’s ample diversion with two pools (one indoors), a screening room, a terrific restaurant, and walks along the River Boyne. The combined effect is a welcome as warm as the peat fires that burn in the public rooms."

I recently visited Bellinter House and had such a wonderful experience. I used the new thermal area, which is beautifully designed and felt like a true oasis of relaxation. The setting is peaceful, the atmosphere is soothing, and the location itself is stunning. Everything was thoughtfully provided—towels, slippers, and the loveliest robes. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole visit even better. I also enjoyed a light lunch in the café beside the spa, which was a perfect addition to the day. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for a personal treat, a couples’ escape, or a relaxing get-together with friends. Highly recommend!

A little slice of heaven.. We stayed in the Boyne valley suite which was amazing so much attention to detail in the room. The hot tub was brilliant we spent hrs in it with our bottle of bubbly just relaxing.. we had the early check in and late check out definitely worth the extra few pound.. The staff were brilliant and took time to show us around the new infinity pool area.. shout out to Judith who made us feel very welcome on arrival at the spa and really enjoyed spending time showing us about.. The lunch and dinner were 10/10 we had the stake on the stone ..one of the nicest stakes I’ve had in a long time.. breakfast was maybe a little bit on the ordinary side but other than that the food was great.. The bar staff and floor manager were very polite and tended to our needs and kept the drinks flowing throughout the night.. The hole area in the hotel was so peaceful but yet still busy with people coming and going and relaxing having a drink the Christmas lights and decorations made everything extra special this place truly is a hidden gem.. will definitely be back..

We recently stayed here to celebrate an anniversary and overall had a really lovely experience. The setting is absolutely fabulous, especially at Christmas — the hotel is beautifully decorated and has such a festive, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay. We had dinner in Preston’s, which was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. We also tried the new outdoor spa trail, which was a real highlight. It’s been done so well and felt relaxing and special. A few small details stopped the stay from being quite as exceptional as it could be. Our room wasn’t ready at 4pm and there were a number of guests waiting, which, while not a long delay, was a little inconvenient for a hotel of this standard. Before dinner we hoped to enjoy a drink, but all tables were reserved, so there wasn’t anywhere to sit. For a hotel of this size, it would be nice to have a few more casual or cosy seating areas for guests just popping in for drinks. There are also a handful of minor touches that could elevate the experience further — things like lighting candles, a bit more attention to staff presence in public areas, and updating some of the spa facilities (the hairdryers in particular). Also a note to those booking the Bellinter Express, it is located on the main driveway coming in so you can hear every car going in an out as staff leave and arrive during the night- and the hot tub is not private. That said, these are small details, and overall we had a very pleasant stay in a beautiful setting. With a few refinements, this place could truly be something special.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, and am so pleased with my stay here. The hotel has a lovely snug, cosy vibe perfect for winter. Everything from the room, restaurant and bar was so beautifully decorated and had such a nice atmosphere. I found staff to be incredibly friendly, attentive and talkative which I always appreciate. The restaurant had amazing quality food (I definitely recommend the steak in particular). Furthermore, the drinks in the bar were very good and they even made drinks i suggested that weren’t on the menu which was lovely of them. Overall, I had a lovely relaxing stay here and would definitely consider returning.

We booked a night away here to celebrate our anniversary, and while the thermal area was absolutely 10/10 (I’d happily pop back just for a day trip), the hotel stay itself really missed the mark and I wouldn’t stay overnight again.||When booking, I mentioned it was for our anniversary. We go away for a night every year and always get left either a little “happy anniversary” note or card, which is a lovely touch and keepsake, but nothing was left in our room. I wasn’t begging for freebies by any means but as I said, a little note or card is a lovely keepsake to have. ||At check-in I stated that we had the thermal area booked. The receptionist just said “okay” and that was it. I had to ask where to go and what to do. No info on robes, towels, changing rooms — nothing. When we got to the room there were no robes, so we tried ringing reception. It rang out three times, and the dust on the phone was atrocious. The bedside lockers still had glass marks on them, and the bathroom tiles badly needed a scrub.||We headed down for food later on in the Bistro, My meal came out cold, and when I asked for it to be reheated I was told they don’t use microwaves and they’d bring out a fresh one which I respected. When it arrived, I devoured it because it was gone 9pm and I was starving — only to realise the “turkey & ham” was actually just turkey. I said it to the waitress and she took our shared starter off the bill, which we did appreciate but for the money you’re paying for a meal, this shouldn’t happen.||On checkout, I expected to be asked how our stay was so we could say all this — but not a word. We weren’t asked how our stay was or anything, just took our room key and said “thanks, bye”.||All in all, the thermal area is lovely and well worth a day visit — but I wouldn’t be rushing back to stay overnight again.

Google
Food and food service amazing! Rooms clean. Spa lovely, but heated pool felt cold but I think it may have been down to it being 0 degrees outside. All very clean and new. Only small improvement that would’ve helped us was when we arrived it was dark and we were staying in the school house. We struggled to find it in the dark. Maybe a sign would be helpful. We went back to ask the guy at Reception for directions again and it seemed like we were a real inconvenience to him. We found it eventually. Thanks for a lovely time.

Stayed two nights at this lovely hotel at the start and end of our travels in Ireland. Not far from Dublin, so an ideal stop after the Ferry journey. Travelled with our Springer Spaniel and stayed in the stables dog dog-friendly rooms, which are lovely and quiet. |We were able to eat breakfast and evening meal in the bar area with our dog. We had the fillet steak for our evening meal, and it was probably the best fillet steak that I have ever had, cooked medium-rare to perfection. The staff are also friendly and provide excellent service. |Will definitely use this hotel when travelling to Ireland again.

Absolutely loved my get away from it all before Christmas and Bellinter was perfect. Wonderful, friendly and very helpful staff. The new thermal area was exactly what I needed to relax and the food at dinner was delicious. The attention to detail from the doggy welcome stand, robes, towels, flip flops, nespresso in the room, you name it, it was the perfect recharge. I stayed in the 'Stables' with my old pug and explored the area which is so rich in our ancient heritage. Fantastic place and genuinely dog friendly. It’s the kind of place that feels special whether you’re there to fully switch off or to share a quiet, romantic escape. Highly recommend and definitely will be back for both. Thanks 🙏🏻 🐾

Yelp
I loved it there, I stayed there a night to get my nephew his birthday present, the scenery was beautiful and the food was lovely. Big thanks to my good friend Harry Batt for recommending this place for me. I would definitely recommend this place if you're staying in Meath!

Yelp
Bellinter House is a gorgeous spot for afternoon tea on a special occasion or even just a nice lunch out if you're after a change of scenery and something a little different to your ordinary cafe. Dining areas located in the front drawing room and in main living room area directly past the reception desk. It is usually quite busy here so sometimes it can be good to book ahead. I've been here twice for afternoon tea, and have called ahead to avail of a vegan and gluten free afternoon tea cake tier at no extra charge, something I really appreciate from the chefs in Bellinter. Staff are mostly very friendly and helpful and the seating areas are roomy with beautiful views onto the grounds and River Blackwater if you happen to get a spot near a window. The decor is absolutely stunning within the premises. There is also a spa on location, and you can avail of spa treatments even if you do not happen to be staying at the location. I would recommend Bellinter House as I think it is a beautiful spot in a fabulous reclusive setting.

Yelp
What a beautiful secluded country house hotel this is! Just off a busy motorway lies a world of tranquility. a truly wonderful place, I stayed there for a night and availed of the leisure facilities, I had a back massage which was very soothing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful interiors, thick wooden doors, lovely spiral strairway that leads down into the dining room area. Outside jacuzzi! Bathouse where you can avail of seaweed & peat Bath, facials etc. They have a great selection of treatments for a weary body! This is generally a very pricey hotel, but I purchased a one night offer & treatment from BoardsDeals, so this made the night considerably cheaper! Very relaxing and tranquil atmosphere :)

Yelp
Oddly enough, Bellinter House was the most expensive Hotel I stayed at during my Ireland trip. Nearly 100 Euro more than more exotic locations such as the Cliff House in Ardmore including breakfast and dinner service. It was also the most stylish and packed with great amenities and helpful staff. There's free wi-fi which unlike many hotels in Ireland actually extends to the room. The bathroom is awesome and the bed very comfy. The downsides: Hot water. I don't know why a lot of Irish hotels have this problem, but the water was never more than lukewarm. It's also expensive. In USD nearly $450 per night with dinner and breakfast (which is a set menu and quite good). The TV shut off and I would have to physically hit the power switch on the TV to reset it every 15 minutes. Finally for this price in a renovated mansion hotel, it would be nice to have some control over the heaters. Pros: -Nice setting. -Lots of amenities. -Great food. -Nice staff. -Excellent ambiance. -Free in-room wi-fi. Cons: -TV was not functioning properly. -Lack of hot water. -Pricey.

Yelp
Bellinter is a beautiful stately home hotel set in the gorgeous countryside of Meath. The hotel is owned by entrepreneurs Jay Bourke & John Reynolds who you may know from such venues as Fade Street, Market Bar and even Electric Picnic so not surprising that Bellinter is incredibly cool. The décor is sort of shabby chic but more on the chic side while still managing to be comfortable and inviting. I always feel like I'm sitting in the pages of an interiors magazine when I visit They have two options for food and drinks in either the bar or the main restaurant. Both are excellent and they offer a lovely Sunday lunch with amazing breads and pastry from their on-site bakery. The spa called "The Bathhouse" looks lovely but I have never been for any treatments. They have great offers on line for the hotel, spa and restaurant. The staff are fantastic and so friendly. I am lucky enough to live close to the hotel and think the bar is a great place to go for a light bite to eat and a glass of wine but I would definitely recommend it as a hotel as it is so close to Dublin and yet is in the middle of the countryside.

Yelp
This place is special. The drive from Dublin is short and scenic, and the countryside around the hotel is beautiful.

Yelp
I stayed here during the week with a friend for her birthday present. The winter blues package is an absolute steal for €99 per person. You get the room, access to the spa facilities, a 30 minute treatment (not one each, one per room so we added one on), 2 course meal and breakfast. We went to the spa for the afternoon when we arrived and also after breakfast the following morning. Our treatments by the friendly Nuala were great. The place was beautiful and all the staff were really friendly. Our room was quite noisy as it was at the front of the house and they started getting deliveries at around 6 am. Windows could definitely do with being updated for better soundproofing. Also the TV hummed all night which was odd. All in all a great experience and would recommend it!

Yelp
I stayed here the night Foo Fighters played Slane. I'm not a fan of sitting in hours of traffic on the road back to Dublin, and that's par for the course with Slane. Luckily, Navan is in the opposite direction, so no sitting in traffic for me! Bellinteer House itself is wonderful. It's an old country house, that has very much retained it's old charm. The gardens are lovely, the facilities are great, the rooms are lovely, but it's not overly expensive. Their services is so good, they even emailed those of us who were staying the night of the concert to see if we'd be interested in a bus to and from the show. Even less hassle for us! Why only a 4 star review? Some of the rooms could do with a bit of care, and general overhaul. Apart from that, a fantastic place to spend a weekend relaxing.

Yelp
This old country house is so gorgeous. Lovely for coffee with friends. Only checked out the cafe lounge area. But impressed.

Yelp
Designed by Richard Cassels - the man responsible for Russborough House, Powercourt, Carton House and Leinster House - Bellinter House is tucked away on the banks of the river Boyne in County Meath and has a real old world sense of luxury. Surrounded by mature trees and extensive lawns there's a tranquil atmosphere about the place, but when it needs to it really knows how to party too. There's a library, pool room, bar, and drawing room for relaxing in, all on the ground floor overlooking a sweeping lawn. Every room is comfortable and slightly quirky, there's nothing ordinary about this place which is what makes it easy to fall in love with.

Yelp
Had my wedding here and can't recommend enough! Amazing staff, food , hospitality! Cosy, relaxing , lovely ambience the whole weekend making us never want to leave. We felt like it was our house ! So happy with our wedding venue choice ! The staff are wonderful and the food delish.. the eclectic mix of antique and modern decor makes for a very quirky interior. We have been here many times on the run up to our wedding for lunch , dinner etc and will be back time and time again.. its 'the feel' of the place that makes it so special and this is difficult to put into words...

Yelp
We adored this funky, chic hotel in Meath. What a great place to unwind, enjoy the countryside, a proper Irish tea service, some oversized lawn chess, and a lovely, restorative night's sleep that'll make you feel like you've been euthanized. It's a cool place to stay. Leave those other stuffy countryside manors to the snooty, soulless wannabes. We stayed in the main house with giant wooden shutters, a bathroom as big as the bedroom, and felt like we were guests at a friend's house. The kind of friend who has a gorgeous mansion in the countryside and some good grounds to walk in. They even give you wellies for the rain. Go to Bellinter House as soon as possible. You deserve it.

Roisin W.

Yelp
Such a beautiful spot where you can really relax and switch off. Have stayed here a few times now and used all of the facilities. The rooms in the wings of the house are slightly more modern and less expensive than those in the main part of the house but I also think they are far cosier and enjoy the benefit of less noise. This is a big flouncy duvet place and they have a few nice touches like stunning wardrobes, exposed wood beams and tunnocks tea cakes instead of boring bikkies in the tea tray. Oh how i wish all hotels would do this! The pool is small but tranquil and there is a small steam room and sauna. There is also a fab, but small, hot-tub outside surrounded by trees with a gorgeous countryside view. I have been in this in the snow with my robe hanging from a branch nearby and it is an unbeatable way to chill out. The restaurant is in the basement and I believe it's run by the people who run Ely in meeting house square. The food is excellent. Food and cocktails are also available in the bar and I prefer to eat here curled up in front of the roaring fire enjoying the piles of magazines and papers. Why am I telling you this! I must be crazy to be sharing it and risking never being able to get a room again! There is also a billiards table off the bar and a library with books, dvds and wellies all there for you to borrow. Finally - and no offense is meant here but I think it's worth mentioning - the nearest town is Navan. Navan offers little to almost no diversion from the delights of Bellinter. At best you will kill a couple of hours in the shops and pubs. I count this as a serious bonus being one of those people who sometimes finds it hard to go to a hotel and stay there instead of exploring! Parking can be a bit rubbish when the weather is dodgy - be warned. Maybe unload the bags at the door with someone to mind them and then park and walk back to the house without them.
