Guide to Visiting Glacier National Park

"Backcountry sites in the Belly River area are noted for feeling off the beaten path and offering a quieter, more remote camping experience for those willing to hike into less-traveled portions of the park." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Great spot! Quiet and very well maintained grassy areas. Toilets were clean and they flushed! Sites were of various kinds. Some were semi secluded in the trees others like the one we had across from the meadow by the creek. Group camping area had a tremendous view of the mountains! Very courteous Parks staff came by to check on our experience. All in all well recommended but remember amenities here are basic . Self sufficient camp setups and kit are a must .

I did not camp here but wanted to share that I drove to this campground (and along Highway 6 until right before the Montana border) on a few evenings from just outside Waterton during a recent trip to look for wildlife, and almost every time, saw multiple black bears in this area (once, there was a cinnamon coloured bear in the forest on the road into the campground). The bears seem to love the area near this campground! The campground itself looks really nice - it’s too bad you can’t reserve sites as it’s hard to plan ahead if you don’t have anything booked and are coming from out of province. The sites were nice and they were almost all full when I drove through multiple times, even on the weekdays.

Beautiful campsite! Gary, the host, was incredibly kind and helpful. Firewood is available and provided for campers if you purchase the $11/night permit- which we loved. Campsite was not too expensive, and the grounds were fairly flat for tents. There are unisex flushable toilets available. No sink/potable water. Picnic tables and nice fire pits at each campsite. Easy self-registration process. Loved being here and I would camp here again!

Great campground, the spots are pretty far from each other, so it is very private and secluded. Wish there were more washrooms but they have normal toilets with running water! The price is 19.75 per night + 11.00 for fire permit. Closes on September 2nd due to the bear activity in the area!

Far enough from the road to barely hear it. Flush toilets, but no longer any sinks = bring your own water. First loop has smaller shaded sites for tents. Close enough to hiking in east end of Watertown Lake NP.

We drove out to Belly River after being told that it was a great campground. It might be if you are a tent camper. All of the sites are small sites, only suitable for tent campers. Our unit is a 1-ton pickup with a truck camper and there wasn't any sites large enough for us. As well, this campground has just 24 sites, and 1 of the sites is occupied by the campsite attendant, so in reality there are only 23 sites. I have to rate this as a 2 as a caution to any RVers that think they might want to check it out.

Primitive camping $16.75CAD per night. Fire permit $9.25 (includes wood) Each campsite has a firepit a picnic table and a food storage . Trash are large and located every 4-5 site. There is a communal enclosed kitchen. Very clean bathrooms . No power and no fresh water. Campsites 14-19 have view of the open meadow. Gary the host was AMAZING. He told us about his stories with wildlife and he made me more at ease to be in this environnement. Thank you so much Gary( & Sandra) you are gems!!!

Great quiet spot, stunning views, great price, can't recommend it enough. Flush toilets, no showers, no power. Tenting, van, truck camping only. Sites definitely restrict pull behind or big units.
