Belmont Vegetarian Restaurant

My favorite lunch in central Mass for sure. Belmont Vegetarian hasn’t changed much over the years, and honestly, it doesn’t need to. Every single thing I’ve eaten there has been great. The premise is extremely simple: choose a medium or a large plate and fill it up with a select number of items from the menu. The barbecue, seiten, mac & cheese, and sautéed veggies are always favorites of mine. Everything is seasoned well and very, very filling. If we have to drive near Worcester, we always look forward to a stop here. In fact, I would say this is probably a favorite pitstop of Massachusetts vegetarians in general. I’ve run into friends from my hometown (over an hour away) at Belmont, doing the same thing as me: filling up on predictably great food with minimal fuss at a fair price. But even non veg people seem to love this place. I just ate there for lunch today and am already thinking about eating it again. Wish I’d gotten another plate to go!

I love vegan food and there's a place for burgers and sandwiches but it was so refreshing to try something different. Belmont vegetarian is true comfort food. I had rice, pepper "steak", mac and cheese and collard greens. I also grabbed a "chicken" patty to go. It was perfectly flaky. The meal was exactly what I was craving. Super flavorful and delicious. Highly recommended.

Told the very friendly person behind the counter that it was my first time there. He kindly made me a sampler with many different items. Not a single thing I did not love, it was all fantastic! Truly some of the best food I had, and great people. Can’t wait to go back!

I make a point to stop here whenever i come through Worcester. Just amazing. Super friendly staff, always smiling and welcoming. Patties are delicious. Go for the homemade seamoss drinks too. Everything is so good. Thank you

I love this place! The staff and owner are great and the food is amazing. Everything is flavorful and you’ll definitely get your fix as a vegan/vegetarian. My favorite patty’s are lentil and pumpkin. I personally don’t eat alternative meats so I go for black beans, Rasta pasta, Mac, black beans, rice and collard greens. Also — always leave with a juice (soursop is my favorite).

I’m a chef and I love their food it’s my first time here very friendly staff. I live two minutes away from the restaurant but wanting to try this place out for a long time first time trying it and eating the food. I don’t know how to explain, but I love their food. The flavor on their barbecue melts in your mouth i’m having my roommate come and get food

This place is downright amazing. The food is incredibly delicious and flavorful. The workers are very kind and knowledgeable about what they’re serving. So glad to have an all vegan place in Woo that’s so yummy. Will be back again for sure!! My only complaint is that I wish they were open every day.

Delicious, healthy, vegan, soul food. It's a take out place, but there are a few spots to sit and eat. There are choices of grains, proteins and sides. The owner has operated this restaurant for decades.

OH MY GOODNESS, like where do I even begin on the flavors of the dish I got. I got the large ($20) and I got curry, pepper steak, stew mushrooms, mac, collards, and brown rice everything was great! The place is small on the inside which is perfect for me and I almost ate my entire plate in one bite Steven, who I found out through amazing conversation was the owner, was kind, very informative, welcoming, friendly, and answered all of my questions as this was my first time there. I will be back for sure as I am a frequent visitor to the Worcester area.

Food is good but over priced. I ordered a small plate of brown rice, curry tofu and greens for $18.85

Although their food is good, it's expensive & can't believe they charge so much for their food which is so unfortunate. I didn't care for the herb stems that I found while eating my dish, which is pretty unpleasant to have to pick out of your mouth & not know what it is. I wish they had more less spicy stuff.

YUM! So good! We found this restaurant when searching for vegan restaurants in Worcester, and are so glad we did. It's on a busy street, on a hill, so I'd highly recommend parking on a side street on the restaurant side of the street so you don't have to race across and feel like you are playing a human game of Frogger. The awning also says Velmont instead of Belmont... but you are in the right place! They no longer offer an everything plate, as so many recommended on Yelp, but a large gets you: rice-- brown or white, or quinoa, 2 proteins & 3 sides. It's a LOT of food and it's all DELICIOUS. There isn't an actual menu-- just the price for a medium or a large and how many of each type of item you get with that size. However, when I said it was my first time they pointed to and named all the options. Super duper friendly. It's a very small place, with 2-3 tables. If you chose to eat in, people waiting to order will be standing right beside your table. The next time I'm in Worcester, I'll definitely come here again!

Wow. Yes. Words fail. My partner said this place is a top 5 restaurant for him, and within two bites I agreed. Your first time, you'll want to go for the "everything." Among other things, it includes a banging lo mein, insane vegan mac, several "meats," collard greens, and bizarrely good black beans. Each component blends seamlessly with the others, creating a soul food symphony that somehow doesn't leave you weighed down, but purely and totally content. Thank you to the family behind Belmont!

We do take out at Belmont Vegan Cafe every week for a few years now. So delicious Rasta food and so healthy and prepared with love. The Akee patties and spicy plantain patties are a holiday in your mouth. We just tell Steve to make a plate for us and it is great every time. Always interesting people waiting in line to spark up a conversation too. Highly recommend.

The food is actually 100% vegan! Packed with flavor, generous portions, reasonably priced, friendly service. They take Apple Pay, so I could eat even though I forgot my wallet. Heaven on earth!

Incredible vegan lunch!! Split a large brown rice bowl with "everything" with my partners. More than enough for two hungry people. Belmont basically has two menu items - patties and bowls. Bowls are large or small; brown or white rice. Then, you can choose any or all of the vegan options for the bowl. Bowls are served in a foil tray with plastic top - easy to take home and enjoy. Mac n cheese is to die for. Curry is flavorful and not awfully spicy. Loved the pepper steak. Personally don't love collards or cabbage (which is most of steamed veggies) but my partner loved it. I could live without the BBQ because it's quite sweet. Restaurant is really just a take out place. A few booths and tables outside of COVID times. You can call ahead but it takes less than 5 minutes if you order at the restaurant. Literally parking along the steep, busy, snowbanked Belmont St was the only bad part of the experienced.

Amazing authentic Jamaican vegan food! It never disappoints. The portion sizes are perfect and the employees are always super friendly. Highly recommend!

The food is outstanding and quite consistent in flavor, it never disappoints. Loss of 1 star and a piece of advice for any prospective new folks looking to check this place out: avoid coming here within 1 hour of their closing time as they frequently run out of food so you'll be left picking through the scraps of whatever is left from the day. This is not a ding against the actual owner or employees, just an unfortunate circumstance if you have a lengthy trip to get here expecting delicious food and you arrive to them having nothing left despite being open for another hour (or more).

Do not be turned away from the appearance, as looks can be deceiving. Stopped in for some tasty vegan eats, and they is exactly what was delivered from the fine folks over at Belmont Vegetarian. I and I ordered a large place with brown rice and a Ting. This was some of the best vegan food I have tried. Flavors were on point, the curry was the standout for me, the seasoning was spectacular. Filling, flavorful, fast. Definitely check out Belmont Vegetarian if you are in the Worcester area, you will not be disappointed. Jah. Rastafari

Looks like a dodgy hole in the wall, but is probably some of the best vegan Caribbean food you will ever eat. Situated in a surprising town, that looks somewhat drab, Belmont might look dodgy, but is not a secret, as the place filled up after we came at lunch time on a Saturday. The place could use some extra hands, as just one man was taking care of serving food, while one was taking orders. They say there is no public bathroom, but will let you use the staff bathroom downstairs. Service is super friendly and accommodating. They have several food options with brown rice or white rice- all are delicious, but especially the saucy fake meat options. I would frequent this place if I were a resident of Worcester.

The food here is great. I love that you can just get a platter with everything because I don't live here and I want to be able to try everything. Also, being from WNY, I love a good garbage plate (pasta salad, potatoes, beans, some kind of meat). Being vegan, it is great to get a wide variety of plant-based whole foods that cover all the main food groups - whole gains, greens, beans, macaroni and cheese, and faux meat. Not all casual Caribbean joints have this option to get a scoop of a dozen different things all in one container but I love it when they do. This place gets five starts because the only place better doesn't exist anymore. Highly recommended!

Absolutely incredible food! My wife and I checked this place out a few months back with my mom from out of state, she's not even vegan or vegetarian and was raving about how good the food was. We all got the full plate with everything and every single thing on the menu is delicious and packed with flavor. Please come back!!! I miss you guys!!!

I had never been to this restaurant before, just happened to find it on google maps when I was trying to see what was near my hotel here in Worcester and figured I'd try it out. It's not a fancy restaurant, in fact there are barely any tables and the order window is covered with plexiglass like a gas station. The day's menu is written in chalk on wall and it isn't super obvious what they have exactly, but I took my chances and ordered large size and told the gentleman behind the plexiglass to give me whatever he recommended. He spent a few minutes back in the kitchen scooping up a variety of things and made quite the beautiful mosaic of food. (see photo) Wow, there were a whole bunch of amazing things in my platter, rice, noodles, beans, greens, lots of various super-flavorful vegan meats ... all awesome. It's like an orchestra of flavor and textures. These folks are culinary artists! What an amazing meal, so glad I didn't judge a book by it's cover. Don't let the looks of this place fool you, this is an amazing meal. Take the chance, you won't regret it.

Literally, everything is amazing, have been going here for a few years. the pies are to die for and the vegan mac and cheese is the best in my opinion. also love the fact that everything is set up in front of you so you can see everything to choose from! lovely workers and owner.

Went to this place today after reading some of the reviews and I wanted to try something new.... MAN the food was GREAT!! The owner was friendly and gave me a huge portion. I visit the area often and this was the first time eating here and it did not disappoint. Will definitely be back!!

It's good to see an establishment in the area honoring vegetarian and vegans. At first the locations a little questionable. However it looks can be deceiving. The food I found was OK I wasn't quite sure what was in it but it tasted good.

Simply amazing !! In a closed/open kitchen you may watch your delicious meal being prepared. The portions are large, but trust me, you won't want share more than a taste with your plus 1 diner. This food is so great that you'd never know that it was vegetarian. The owner is so welcoming and always greets you and welcomes you in.

How did I live so long in Worcester without getting takeout here??? Since it was my first time there, they recommended I get the everything assortment. I like trying new things so I said sure, why not. But I honestly didn't think that I would like the vegetarian meats. I was wrong! EVERYTHING IN THE CONTAINER IS F#$@ING AWESOME! You have to go there and order at the window. Everything is already made and they just have to throw it together in a take out container. This is the large container and it could definitely feed 2 people but it's so good you probably won't want to share.

This is THE BEST vegetarian food in the United States, hands down. I first stopped here with my friend on a trip up to Maine and it blew my mind. Came back a year later just for the food. Nothing else compares. This place has an amazing story and even more amazing food made with real love.

It's been a minute since I have been here but was just talking about this place today. I am not in the Belmont area that often as I live out of state but when I am i will stop here. Great vegetarian food, love the mac and cheese but truthfully it is all great. People are awesome, friendly, kind always smiling. Always a pleasure to visit here. As said before don't let the looks fool you, it's small not fancy but don't miss the opportunity to check them out.

Hole-in-the-wall doesn't quite do this place justice, and I was admittedly skeptical when I walked in. However, the food was excellent, and the chef/owner was very friendly. Highly recommended.

The food was amazing. So glad we stopped in. They have two sizes of to go foil containers. The smaller one is about $11 and $14 for the larger one. I got a full lg sampler plate and my husband got the large curry. I really enjoyed it. All very flavorful. The curry dish was a bit much with a really soft texture so next time he would mix it up and maybe get the sample. In the sampler I tried the bbq, mac and cheese, greens, quinoa, sweet sour, brown rice, and beans.

I needed to write this review a long time ago! I used to come here all the time when I went to WPI, I graduated in 2015. I used to come here with all my friends constantly. The food was AMAZING and still is! My boyfriend couldn't believe it was all vegan. Get the pepper steak, collard greens and curry. But honestly everything is excellent. But nothing can compare to the kindness of the owner, Stephen. I came here so often he used to give us free plates of food to go. When I graduated he gave me a graduation teddy bear, a congrats grad mug and a visa gift card. It was unreal I was so touched. I have never felt so at home at another restaurant. All the staff are so kind and accommodating I always stop by when I am back in woo. I wish I could still come as often as I once did.

The. Best. Vegan. Food. There. Is. If you have family (or yourself) you want to introduce to vegan deliciousness just pick up a couple plates of everything. I often drive 45 minutes from PVD to get it, completely worth it. Good vibes, generous portion sizes.

If you are in Worcester you obviously have to try this place out! It's amazing for vegetarian it's really good super unique always consistent actually some of the best vegetarian food in New England!

Where do I even begin?! OK, for starters, if you are not from the Worcester area, you might be inclined to just keep on driving right by. This looks like a small, rundown, corner store from the outside, that doesn't give you the warm fuzzies to walk right in. But don't be discouraged by exterior appearances. Upon entering, it is set up like a fast food establishment, with plexi glass separating you from the back of the house. As this being my first time there, it was all a bit confusing. There is a chalkboard hand-written menu on the right wall as you walk in. And there was music playing a little too loud for me to ask questions. So, I of course took to the reviews to see what I should get, and majority states, get EVERYTHING. You choose from a small or large round tin (think salad bar type container), then tell them you want everything. Trust me, do this, get it all, don't think twice about it, just do it! Then run to your car, rip it open and start devouring. OK, OK, try to get home first, but I was on a road trip and starving so I dug right in. Flavors are packed into every bite, and there is such a wide array of all the different foods you are eating, it is sensory overload. I am certainly marking this as a must-go-again place.

Something to note: not all vegetarians like the fake meat, so if that is you, stick to the rice, beans, greens, and noodles. Overall, the food was flavorful, delicious, and perfectly prepared. YALL! This place is INSANE! I'm super indecisive and this was my dream set up; medium or large and you get a bit of everything! We tried the beef patty and the kale patty as well (beef was better, but both good) and really loved supporting this black-owned business. Maybe a bit too much rice in the bowl, but that's just because I wanted as much flavoring with the mix ins as possible! But there is also an option to order with no rice with an added fee. Anytime I'm back in Worcester I'll be sure to return.

I had a sample platter from Belmont Vegetarian. In all seriousness, I didn't know vegan food TASTED LIKE THIS! When I think of vegan food I think no flavor and food tasting like dirt, but this was not the case. The food is so good that I am now considering going vegan! The combinations of spices and flavors is like having a party in my mouth and the way they prepare their tofu will have you thinking that you are eating meat. You have to try it! PS. Go in the day time because the location could seem a little sketchy to some.

Very tasty food I have been looking for a place like this for a few years. I found it finally way to many Pizza dives nothing healthy to go for. Fatty burger/Fry spot s arteries cloggers. This is why people are extremely unhealthy we need more healthy choices around here.

Really unique hole in the wall vegan joint with good flavors. Stopped in on the way to CT and rocked a large bowl with pepper "steak", mac n' cheese and collards with brown rice. Everything was good, especially the steak. The mac n' cheese had a bit of a sweeter taste (which I would assume is coconut) and the collards were on point. A large is big enough for 2 people, so at $15, it's a good deal (you can fill it with anything and evwrything on the menu). Will likely make the trip to try some of the other options. Parking was a bear, so grab and go!

A wonderful and unexpected surprise. I loved this place. Agreed, it's not located in the most glamorous part of town. Agreed, it's small. But the quality and sweet vibes of this place will resonate with you, and I'm not even talking about the reggae music playing in the background. That's just a bonus. I stopped in yesterday on my way to Plymouth and ordered a medium plate of everything and a Snapple -it ran around $15. As the name suggests, this is a vegetarian restaurant. But your taste buds will not miss a beat here. The food is a testament to how amazing a creative cook can be with a vegetarian diet. Flavors of BBQ and curry and pepper steak and stews exploded from my plate. The beans and vegetables and tofu and mac and cheese were so flavorful. I loved the BBQ and curry choices, but really, everything was excellent! Yelp has taught me to trust their ratings, even if a place looks a little sketchy from the outside. I loved my meal here, and totally had a great time, chatting with the friendly owner, looking at the Bob Marley quotes and photos on the wall, and listening to that great music. As Bob said, "You just can't live in that negative way. Make way for the positive day".

I am REALLY glad that this place exists. It's one of the few all vegan/vegetarian friendly places in Mass and the fact that it's hearty and flavorful is a definite bonus! Really friendly staff and GREAT tasting food! Would recommend and this will become a frequent visit of mine. This place is a gem to have in the community!

I've been meaning to come back here. I went here a few times in high school. The food is very good :)

Visited here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. This spot is cozy so we decided to order our food to go. The guy at the window was super friendly and offered to go through the choices with us. We opted to get a large of everything for each one of us. The serving was enough for two meals and the food was delicious! Neither my boyfriend or I are vegan or vegetarian, but you wouldnt miss eating any meat products at all. The portions are great, the food is seasoned very well. They have a variety of options and every single one of them are fantastic! The mac and cheese was a great standout and probably my favorite. It was a great meal and you felt full and content after. Somewhere i will definitely be visiting again. Parking can be a challenge if its busy as they have no dedicated lot, but it is worth navigating a spot to pick up a meal here.

Belmont Vegetarian Restaurant is Jamaican and all vegan takeout place. I got the medium platter with a little of everything they offered today. It was all so flavorful! I loved watching the chefs behind the counter working on the dishes and serving with care. Everyone was very friendly.

Amazing food and service. The owner is so nice and helpful, even promoting other vegan establishments. I tried a little of everything, and it was all great. The food is so flavorful and unique compared to other vegan places around. Even my no vegan family loved it and wants to go back, so it is perfect for all sorts of dietary needs. I highly recommend trying it.
