The Best Smoothies and Juices in San Francisco | Eater SF

"This Mission District vegan spot is all about wellness, with a focus on tonics and elixirs. That doesn’t mean its menu is purely medicinal, however, as there are loads of delicious fresh juices to try, like their “golden shield” (grapefruit, orange, ginger, and turmeric). All their smoothies — and there are many — are offered with a long list of add-ons including ashwagandha, vegan omegas, and maca." - Eater Staff

Popped in here for lunch on our way from the SFO airport out to Napa. My husband really wanted a burrito but I found this spot on yelp and it seemed more my speed. I came in around 1 pm on Thursday afternoon and sat at the bar. The space is quite small with just the bar seating and a couple of seats by the window. I imagine they have a large take out clientele. I ordered the quinoa bowl with tempeh and subbed tahini for the aioli. It came out quickly and was fresh and delicious. I really appreciated being able to grab a quick and healthy lunch. If I lived in the area I imagine this would be in my regular take away rotation.

This has become one of my go-to brunch treats. Absolutely gorgeous, tasty and colourful foods, yummy drinks and creative smoothies! A must try in SF!

I was excited to try this place out. Good option for vegan + vegetarian fare. The delicata squash did not have wild rice, but did have the quinoa salad. I wish I would have known they didn’t have beets and replaced salad with tomatoes as well as the missing wild rice. The dish was good, but not sure about $20 and service was ok. Providing an extra star for what seemed like a woman-owned establishment.

Beloved’s intimate interior, sweet music and aroma of cinnamon and cardamom surprised me. It’s a compact dose of serenity after the churn of 24th and Mission. I ordered the Beloved Latte with turmeric, ghee and nut milk, no sugar (minus one star for no decaf) at $9 and the Masala Cacao Ball at $7. High prices for sure, as other reviews have mentioned, but where do you find this in the Mission? I just moved here a month ago from Marin and four cafes in the Mission I have tried so far have been tired, dirty and run down. What’s up with that? I thought the tech bros were bringing up the value here. In contrast, I think Beloved represents the heartfelt, positive vibe of conscious living. This cafe packs a lot into a small space. Just sayin’.

Hidden gem and underrated. Food is spectacular and organic. My favorite is the rainbow nori wrap. I hear their cheesecakes are yum as well.

Really fresh, tasty food. A bit pricey, but turned out well worth it.

Google
A beautiful mini oasis in the Mission. My friend introduced me to the place, and it did not disappoint with its calm vibes, friendly staff, organic architecture and delicious/nourishing food. It's a small, narrow spot, but the seats at the beautifully-carved bar are perfect for 1-2 people. We got the acai bowl, and it was large enough to comfortably feed two. And the chai was so warming and satisfying. Highly recommend for a soothing stop!

Yelp
I went to Beloved for the first time recently--shockingly, I've never been to this mostly vegan business in the 16 years I've lived in SF. I really like the premise of what they're doing but I walked away with a sort of meh experience. First, it's a really cute spot and the staff are friendly and helpful. Second, their menu is very much the kind of thing I like these days. It's full of bowls, salads, juice, tea, etc. But the downside is definitely the price. I got a muffin (average-ish size) and a matcha latte, and w/tip, it came to $24. If this was the best matcha and muffin of my life (or at least, a quite good one) I might have been less phased. But I found the matcha bland. The muffin, on the other hand, was good (and they added some small bits of fruit on the side). I will definitely give them another shot (I do want to try some of those bowls!) but for now I'm not 100% won over.

Yelp
Absolutely fell in love with this spot! The music, ambience, service, and delicious food had me enchanted for over an hour. I ordered the quinoa and veggie bowl and added avocado, every bite was perfect. I live in LA and I am devastated I can't come here multiple times a week. I will be back every time I am in SF for work. A very special cafe!

Yelp
My go to spot in SF. I have a dog so I love that there's outdoor seating. I always go for the quinoa roasted veggie bowl with tempeh and avocado. Great juices and smoothies and desserts. Cozy ambiance, very small. Fast service, and the food is always perfectly heated and steaming hot.

Yelp
It's a tiny, intimate cafe with an earthy, maximalist ambience. It's rare for me to come across coffee shops with foods that are natural, freshly made, and minimally seasoned. So if you are looking for a healthy cleanse this is the place.

Yelp
If you like health food and quaint vibes, you'll fall in love with Beloved Cafe. Sit at their bar to get a true feel for the essence of the place. There's a small seating area outside too. On the menu are smoothies, juices, teas, coffee, health tonics, small bites, and plates of food. A few of us ordered the nori wrap and loved it; the tahini sauce is super yummy. You'll leave feeling vital after eating such delicious food filled with nutrients. Note -- There are very few seating options.

Yelp
On my way to a shuttle for Portola, I found this cute cafe and decided I should stop for a drink or some food. While I wasn't super hungry, I wanted to try something... I only had the Morning Ritual which was basically coffee from a French press. It took longer than I had expected as I waited outside and never really heard the name of the item called. I was preoccupied with the deck of oracle cards I played with while I waited and finally decided to go in and ask about it. I liked the interior decor and feel of the place... I think service could be more communicative. Especially if there are not many people on staff and people are going in and out to check on the tables outside. Being aware oh, by the way your coffee is coming right out of something. Honestly probably could have walked away and the guy wouldn't have noticed or cared. If I am in the area again and decide to come back... I would need to try some food and a different drink. The place is tiny inside so ordering could be overwhelming for someone who doesn't like tight spaces or being rushed, should there be more people walking in to order. I don't think you would get the same feeling if you sat in the parklett tables as you would inside or right outside the front door. Oh, what I DID like while I was there too was the music they were playing. They were play Brazilian music and it had brought a smile and happy feeling to me, reminiscing on memories of Brazil and people I have met there.

Yelp
Diet: Vegan - The blueberry lemon-aid (amazing! Didn't expect it to be this tasty!) - The chocolate brownie is just out of the world. - The everyday greens is too bitter have it if you can handle it. I'll skip that next time.

Yelp
It's good but dangggg it is expensive!!! We got the mushroom chaga drink and the golden tumeric latte. I preferred the mushroom drink and my boyfriend preferred the tumeric one. It came out quickly and it is such a cute store. The ingredients are healthy and phenomenal! The downside is that I really cannot justify spending that much money on a drink. I think it is a special occasion place and not an every day place. I'd recommend giving it a shot but if you go every day, you'll break the bank!

Yelp
Anna is Amazing! I love this place! Very good energy awesome healing vibes and good people! They know me by my name now and I used to come here when I was a kid when it was a Palatera shop. Back then it was so DARK and just bleh. The owners were still nice and I think their grandchildren come to Beloved Cafe now! My regular drink is the Chocolate Avocado Banana smoothie or the Golden Turmeric or Mushroom Drink. I always read and pick out 3 angel cards to get into the spiritual mood! I am loyal to Anna and her establishment! Come here for some good drinks, bites, and energy!

Rachel W.

Yelp
Exceptional. I could write a novel on why this is the most underrated gem Of the mission. I almost don't want to recommend it because I don't want it to be busy when I go. But the owners are so wonderful. The food is so fresh. There are options for almost all diets/allergies. The vibe is calming and Serene. It's like a little hole in the wall that transports you.

Yelp
We're on a little plant-based kick this month and found this interesting spot. It's a cozy little cafe in the Mission, and yes cozy is a euphemism for very small cramped interior! There is a nice little reading nook in the front though, and more tables outside in a covered parklett style space. Food is definitely made fresh as it takes a while. It took maybe 20+ minutes and I didn't see any other food orders while we were waiting for ours Stuffed Delicata Squash- I'm generally a fan of stuffed anything, but this was a great dish. The squash was cooked to softness, and stuffed with well flavored quinoa. The dish comes with a simple salad on the side, and a pile of nut hummus. The nut hummus was great but I wish it came with something to spread it on. Fruit and homemade granola bowl Normally a granola bowl is just sprinkled with some fruit, but this is really largely a bowl of chopped fruit. The granola was good, but relatively sparse compared to the mountain of fruit. It was a little weird for the fruit to be swimming in nut milk, instead of a thicker yogurt base. Carrot Spice Maple Muffin- very textured, dense, earthy muffin. Not a good choice for someone who wants a classic muffin, but I was pleasantly surprised my kids enjoyed it!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a beautifully decorated interior with many healthy menu options from bowls, to savory dishes, and different smoothies! I was there pretty early so didn't catch the line, and was also able to sit in the little corner nook they have with pillows. Though on the expensive side, I'd love to try their bowls next time!
google avatar

Yelp
Delish, healthy and wholesome food made with real ingredients. So happy to have a wonderful place like this in the heart of the Mission!

Yelp
Horrible service with attitude not to just me but another customer in front of me also. I'd rather go to sidewalk juice. I tried this place as a co worker recommended it. I don't know if the lady was upset but her rudeness turned me off and I will never come here again. I like to vibe with people and the vibe here was not positive at all. Thank you for ruining my experience!

Yelp
The plant-based dishes at Beloved Cafe was just the nutritious reset I needed after a long weekend of indulgent, hearty Midwest fare. His Stuffed Delica Squash ($17) was so tender & flavorful & my Quinoa Bowl & Roasted Veggies ($17 plus $3 for avocado & $3 for nut hummus) was chock-full of well-seasoned veggies & grains. I love eating this way & wish I did so more often. Beloved Cafe is small & unique; there are handful of counter seats inside, a cozy window seat, & a few sidewalk tables. Hanging plants & tea canisters make up the bulk of the ambiance. It reminds of me of what some SF eateries looked & felt like before many started homogenizing their decor & vibe to appeal to social media feeds. Beloved Cafe was homegrown in the Mission & it shows.

Yelp
I invite everyone to consider how expensive this café is. I paid around $35 for one coffee and one smoothie--excuse me? I wouldn't mind paying more for something more meaningful. Seriously, have you seen the photos of their salads? I strongly protest against any business that thinks we're just easy money makers! Be reasonable! We don't earn money easily! I will never buy anything from here again. You can't charge these prices for such products. Seriously!

Yelp
Reccomend the Blueberry Restorer smoothie is great, the food looks wholesome. Place has fast and friendly service, reccomend 100% The place overall had earthy plants and great furniture. Coming back for lunch next time.

Yelp
Ran into the special gem while trying to find a great pick me up after an eventful night. Beloved gem filled that need. This cafe has a nice latin american vibe with lots of precious stones splashed with a rustic vibe. I particularly loved their simple drink selection and food. We ordered the chai latte and golden milk. Gosh that golden milk has turmeric! great for the digestive system! For food we got the Creamy Super Charged Oatmeal. This oatmeal dish is my new fav way of having oatmeal. lots of antioxidants and fiber, mixed with honey and coconut. Great for the health enthusiast.
google avatar

Patrick T.

Yelp
Quaint location with natural lighting. The staff is two women who speak Spanish but they are very receptive to if you do not speak Spanish and try to help as best they can to get you through their menu. They are not opposed to modifying their menu to the needs of the customer. Great for vegans and even better for Vegetarians as they have many selections with few options that may have honey or ghee. If you have a concern with these things let them know and they will help or modifying your choice to your needs.

Yelp
I went back for the first time since the pandemic and I still love this place. I had the sweet potato lovers juice and the stuffed delicata squash this time and they were glorious! It's nice to finish a meal satisfied, with no regrets knowing that you nourished your body in the very best way.

Yelp
Super tiny but super cute cafe, definitely only for groups of 1 or 2. There was a little outdoor seating too. Green detox juice is delicious!

Yelp
Great healthy food and drinks! Run by 2 sisters that are great people. I am very happy to have found this place that has such great healthy options. Very cozy too!

Yelp
organic food, flexible with dietary restrictions with a friendly ambiance, would definitely recommend

Yelp
I recently went to Beloved Cafe with a friend for tea. Nice selection of tasty, healthy and nourishing teas. Cosy vibe and friendly service. Love the aesthetics of the place. The food menu looks good as well. I think it is all vegan or at least vegetarian along with being organic so kudos for that. I had the Butterfly Pea & Lemongrass Herbal tea. My friend had the Wise Woman Brew tea. We both enjoyed our nourishing hot cups of tea. Look forward to returning to try out the food menu!

Diane P.

Yelp
I love this place-it is such a cute restaurant and the food is so good. I have gone in there maybe 10 times, but I almost feel like I have decided not to support therm as I have never gone in there and have the wait staff be the least bit friendly-I am kind of tired of that!!!

Jessica F.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in grabbing a vegan bite or drink.

Yelp
I was excited to find this place as the vibe/description is right up my alley. Unfortunately my first visit will definitely be my last as well. The biggest issue is that the staff, including those taking orders, simply don't speak English. It took me almost 5 minutes just to figure out what they put in their latte, after which I gave up and ordered a pour-over. As I stood in line to pay the quite high amount for a cup of coffee, another customer came in and tried to explain how her order was wrong. A solid 10 minutes of confusion and back-and-forth until eventually the customer has to pull up a photo of kale on her phone and point to her salad (which she ordered with kale apparently). They brought her a plate of kale which I guess she was supposed to use after picking out the unwanted quinoa from her salad? Let's be honest, you don't have to be a native English speaker by ANY means, but the employee at a health food joint should know the word "kale". 30 minutes later and I'm still waiting on that pour over by the way. I've got google images ready if I need to go back in.... And after paying $7 for a black coffee I particularly enjoy the "bus your own table" sign.

Yelp
This place has excellent vegan dishes and the food and drinks are healthy and refreshing. I had the avocado toast and a wrap which is delicious. It's walking distance from where I live which is a plus. I will be coming back!
google avatar

Haruka T.

Yelp
Loved their super fresh smoothie and bowl! Plenty of seatings to relax in a cozy environment (~6 seats inside, ~8 seats outside) It's not cheap but I think the sizes are pretty generous! I'd definitely come back here again!!
google avatar

Manisha M.

Yelp
This is a quaint hole in the wall cafe. There is a fun boho/nature vibe and decor through the small cafe. The oatmeal and smoothie bowls are delicious. The seating area is pretty limited indoors but they have an outdoor seating area as well. There's bar style seating for 4 inside and a small cozy nook for a small group of friends to sit in as well.
google avatar

Aarti K.

Yelp
Cute plant-based cafe in the Mission District. Though there's limited seating inside, they do have an outside patio area. I tried the Healthy Glow Bowl, which was refreshing and actually a pretty big portion size. Great place to grab a quick bite when exploring the Mission.

Yelp
I do like the food and drink here, but sometimes the employees make me feel a bit unwelcome. Their offerings are expensive but it makes sense given location in SF and their organic and high quality offerings. Specifically, I understand that it takes a long time to prepare certain food items but it seems like the employees are just in a rush to get you out, or just express annoyance. For example, one time I was told that there was no more nut hummus when I ordered the stuffed delicata squash. I asked for a substitute and they said they could sub tempeh, which I said was fine, but the employee had a pretty bad attitude. Perhaps I'm a little oversensitive but it's happened more than once so I don't think it was a one time thing. Other than that, I do like their mushroom latte and the stuffed delicata squash is so delicious! When it gets warmer I'll probably see if I have the patience to try one of their smoothie bowls since hopefully those are easier to make, and employees won't be as annoyed :)

Yelp
Service was very good Food - smoothies are pricey but good quality. Cool place to visit.
google avatar

Melany M.

Yelp
Loved the earth vibes they had going in there. An extreme plus for me when everything is made from scratch, is organic and when dairy free options are offered. Literal perfect place for me. I ordered the avocado/mango bowl as recommended. This sounded yummier than it was (I've never had avocado + mango together) - nonetheless super fresh and filling with the best ingredients. The staff was also very warm and welcoming.
google avatar

Jetti R.

Yelp
Everything is divine here. Really high quality ingredients. The small place is cozy and very special. The service was great, food incredible, and everyone who walked in was treated warmly, like family. I hope they are in business for very long time. It's my new favorite place. I ordered dal soup, nori, two desserts and golden milk. All delish!! Only complaint is parking is difficult in the Mission, but tough it out, it's worth it.

Yelp
Tasted healthy and surprisingly delicious. The thing that stood out the most was their ability to creatively combine healthy ingredients to produce a stunning piece. Stuffed Delicata Squash Bowl ($16) - impeccable tuna salad-like-hummus (extremely smooth, not grainy at all) that paired perfectly with a roasted squash filled with soft, fluffy flavored quinoa and topped with a creamy white dressing. On the side: incredibly juicy tomatoes, a fresh green salad, served with avocado. Healthy Glow Smoothie ($11) - perfectly sweet mango smoothie. No crazy ingredients, no gimmicks, very straightforward with: mango, avocado, dates, walnuts, coconut water. A bit pricey for such a small cup. Green Goddess Smoothie Bowl ($13) - I chose this bowl because it was the only one with fresh bananas as a topping. More on the exotic side as the smoothie blend had aftertastes of mint and slight spices. Clever concoction as the avocado, pear, spinach, dates, ginger, lime, coconut water, granola, banana, blueberries, goji berries, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and maca, blended perfectly. Not sure if I would enjoy these ingredients independently but together they tasted delightful. 5 stars for their creative combinations, health appeal & ability to be quite filling. Errs on the side of pricey but in the words of annoying health enthusiasts, "health is wealth."

Soroosh P.

Yelp
Quality of food is high, intricate assortments of teas other ingredients some of which I've never heard of. Their prices are on the upper end for açaí bowls, veggies dishes, however I do think it's warranted given the variety and the actual space while small is charming. Service is sometimes slow as the kitchen/staff count is almost inhibited by the size of the place. Overall I recommend, but prepare for a wait, limited seating.

Natalie L.

Yelp
very cozy spot with tasty and wholesome food! Highly recommend the quinoa bowl and golden milk
google avatar

Brenda Jiwon L.

Yelp
Very small but cute place in the mission area. Definitely check out this place if you're looking for a healthy lunch or brunch! I tried the stuffed squash bowl with hummus, which was really good! The squash was cooked just right, and I absolutely loved the hummus that came with it. The only thing is that the quinoa that was in the squash was slightly salty and the portions of the side salad was very small. I also highly recommend the quinoa veggie bowl! Portions for that is good, and it'll definitely fill you up. They also have variety of teas and fresh juices, which were really good. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to come back again to try their granola bowl, which also looked really good! The place is open seating-- so you can easily grab a seat by the bar and enjoy your meal! Only drawback is expect to wait a long time for your food-- service is pretty slow.
google avatar

Yelp
Super fire juice and bowl spot. All organic made from scratch! Must try. Soooo good! Anna is amazing! She we make you feel well loved at Beloved! Green Goddess Bowl
google avatar

Aura B.

Yelp
If you are craving a salad in a hot day, this is the perfect salad to get. The squash and the quinoa go together so well, plus the hummus has an amazing citrus flavor, and the mix greens at the bottom are well dressed. For sure I will come back and try more from their menu.

Yelp
After looking for a full vegan restaurant, I ran into Beloved Cafe and I am so glad I did. I had no problem with parking on the street and walked right up. I love the cozy and welcoming nature of this place. The service was amazing, they answered my questions that I had. I ordered the Avo toast, dark chocolate brownie and a carrot spice muffin and I was not disappointed at all!! I definitely will be back when I come back to SF. THANK YOU for offering wholesome and delicious food. Oh and the coffee is on point
google avatar

Yelp
Friend of 10 years came to visit from out of the country; we were checking out of our hotel & on our way out of SF. I called & placed an order to be ready for our arrival as we didn't have much time. The staff was extremely kind and patient with me over the phone and sweet upon arrival as well. We ordered two smoothies & two bowls. I'm vegan and typically make my own meals at home. These folks use fresh organic ingredients and know how to put a delicious meal together. Two adults and one picky toddler were all extremely happy with the food from here. The inside is quite small but there's outdoor seating as well. We sat in the sunshine at the cute little table directly out front of the establishment. Thank you very much for the lovely experience! I'll be sure to visit this place again next time I'm in the area!
google avatar

Allison W.

Yelp
California in a nutshell: organic foods, hand-written menu, numerous plants, cozy outdoor seating, cute windowsill, etc etc. We all ordered the Buddha Berry smoothie bowl, which was topped with nuts, cashew butter, and fruits. This tasted super fresh and was surprisingly filling! Loved the textures. Only qualm was the price, which bordered $20 post-tax and tip.
google avatar

Nikki G.

Yelp
Can't believe I'm just finding this gem. Perfect for vegans & health conscious eaters! This place is expensive but you can taste why & can tell they use premium organic ingredients I appreciate. My mushroom latte was $10 but was packed with healing antioxidant filled mushrooms. Dal : 10/10 Get the bowl it's that good! I added avocado too it & wow it's next level delicious. Great flavor nothing was super strong. The textures & layers make this so hearty & warming. Quinoa Bowl w / Vegetables : 9/10 This is great! It does have a decent spice kick to it from the chipotle sauce (amazing if you like spice) if you don't like spice beware! The kale is a little tough but the vegetables were perfect. Great flavor & very healthy clean bowl. It feels cozy & comfortable here when it's not busy. The seating is very limited so I can imagine when it's busy there's no where to sit & it's best to order to go.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
This place was so good! I came across this gem while going to Bart and decided I wanted to try the Buddha berry bowl. It was amazing! The bowl was cheaper than other places I've been so that was a plus considering the quality of the bowl The fruits were fresh, the granola was amazing and it tasted amazing. I will definitely come back so I can try their smoothies because they looked delicious.
