"Belvedere Palaces & Park While "Belvedere" might provoke an image of just a single palace, it's actually a large complex with two Baroque palaces (Upper and Lower), Orangery, Stables and beautiful park space in the 3rd District. It was built as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. While the gardens and architecture alone make it worth a visit, its grandiose interiors and art collections are not to be missed. The galleries of the Upper Belvedere highlight Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present, providing insight into the country's culture and history. This includes works by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, as well as impressive sections on Biedermeier, Expressionism and Baroque art."

What a beautiful facility and museum medieval art and 18th-century artists. Can easily spend 2-3 hours on the 3 floors. Elevators available. At least 800 m walk from Ticket off to museum. While walking, enjoy the landscaping. Even while the facility is historic, we watched a self-propelled robot cut the lawn.

Google
Build by Prince Eugene of Savoy  as a summertime residence, transformed into an art gallery by Maria Theresa, the museum houses a lot of important artworks. It's a beautiful building. The Marble hall is impressive, offering breathtaking views of the palace garden. Many people come here for Klimt, but it offers so much more to see. The medieval gallery is small and very interesting. I would definitely suggest checking it out. Buying tickets in advance is a good idea, as when you come without the tickets you might need to wait for couple of hours to be able to enter the palace. If that happens, go for a walk in the palace garden. Beautiful.

The castle was awesome. Likes the gardens as well . Should spend more time there but we had only 1 hour as . Too many things to see here in Vienna for sure . Like the way everything is put . Gardens are not fully blooming as of now

Google
Mindblowingly beautiful place. The building itself, the gardens, the art expositions, all of it. I was also very happy to see Gustav Klimt's paintings! The staff were lovely, too. Absolutely worth the visit.

Absolutely stunning! Belvedere Vienna is a must-visit — breathtaking gardens, elegant Baroque architecture, and an incredible art collection, especially Klimt’s The Kiss. Easy to navigate and beautifully curated. A perfect mix of culture and beauty!

Google
Fantastic Building & Palace This shows the greatness of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Their was a time when this city was the capital of Europe and therefore the capital of the world. Vienna still has this grand & greatness feeling because of those buildings. This one Belvedere Palace is a bit out of town bit not that much really. We still managed to walk here from our hotel which was really town center. We enjoyed it very much and also the water in front which allowed for great pictures.

Google
A beautiful walk through the castle garden. The entrances are both upstairs and downstairs in the garden, so of course I recommend going down from the top, not only is the view nicer, but you save energy.. 😁

Google
The Belvedere in Vienna is a refined palace complex that impresses with its harmony of Baroque architecture and art. Beyond the elegant gardens and stately façades lies one of Austria's finest art collections - including Klimt's iconic The Kiss. The atmosphere is peaceful yet rich in culture. A perfect place to experience the imperial spirit of Vienna combined with artistic grandeur.

Yelp
What to do on a rainy day ?! Go to a museum and this was only one open on a Monday, as most are closed. But, this worked out perfectly, because this museum was on my list! The Belvedere buildings and grounds are grandeur and beautifully manicured. There are 3 areas of museum options- upper, lower, etc Make sure to buy tickets online as they are slightly cheaper and you must select a time slot. Once there, you can stay as long as you like. We bought tickets for the upper building. It housed 3 floors of beautiful art collections. You'll learn about the history of the Belvedere and all floors are well organized- the art was in chronological order with descriptions to read about each era and piece. The bottom floor housed early periods dating back to the 1200s with many beautiful religious items of Christianity, the middle floor housed all the famous pieces of Klimt and Schiele to name a few. The top floor housed modernism. We spent a few hours at this museum. So many interesting pieces! So much history. So many pics taken. Klimt's " The Kiss" resides here and many art lovers surrounding it. This museum was so worth it. I bought a couple of art books and a gorgeous brocade flower print pillow case of one of Klimt's paintings. The museum stores are fabulous for art souvenirs.

Yelp
The Belvedere Palace in Vienna is an overwhelming masterpiece of Baroque architecture, set against the backdrop of huge and gorgeous gardens. This is a perfect example of 18th-century Baroque Vienna. The highlight of the Belvedere experience was undoubtedly Gustav Klimt's iconic painting, The Kiss, housed in the Upper Belvedere. The shimmering gold leaf was creative and unique. This is a wonderful museum with tons of art and beautiful gardens!

Yelp
Not a huge fan of palace visits I decided to knock one off my list by visiting the Belvedere. Expecting to view ornate furnishings in multiple State Rooms imagine my surprise when I learned the entire place is an art museum. I like art far more than Baroque palaces (though the setting and grounds of this one are gorgeous) and the Belvedere provides art in spades. When you purchase a ticket you'll be asked to specify your starting point: Upper Belvedere, Lower Belvedere, or Belvedere 21 and from there your journey will begin. The Upper Belvedere features the largest collection of works by Klimt, the reason many people start and end their visit seeing only the Upper Belvedere. When friends viewed "The Kiss", Klimt's most noted work, they could barely get anywhere near it given the crowds. Because I was busy actually enjoying the rest of Upper Belvedere I wound up viewing it at a time when the crowds had thinned. Timing is everything and if that's all you want to see in the Upper you're missing a very lot. Many will skip the Lower Belvedere but I found much art to enjoy there as well. The setting was intriguing, almost intimate, and getting there provides a wonderful excuse to walk the palace grounds. The Belvedere 21 is off the palace grounds, a few blocks away from Upper Belvedere, and ostensibly features contemporary art. When I visited my overall impression was that I was viewing uninteresting junk and that the entirety of Belvedere 21 cheapened the Belvedere experience by half. I'd actually not have any interest in ever returning to Belvedere 21. A full-service restaurant in the Upper Belvedere serves quite satisfying Viennese fare which will well sustain you on this full-day of art immersion that the Belvedere offers.

Yelp
A stunning place and museum that holds a huge range of art history for Austria and historical significance. Absolutely should be on your list to walk through and visit on a trip to Vienna. If you can carve out a whole day, the property is expansive and has different museums and gardens. It was the perfect way to warm up and enjoy on a cold winter day and probably even more stunning in the summer. Buy tickets online if possible to reserve a time in the museum!
google avatar

Yelp
The Belvedere, both the upper and lower were absolutely amazing. they have some amazing works of art in there. Even though my mother and I went during March, the walk from the upper to the lower was still great. It would be absolutely amazing in the Spring/Summer. I would definitely go back if I'm in Vienna again in the future.

Yelp
Beautiful 18th century building with a surprisingly good art collection. We visited the Upper Belvedere museum on a Tuesday morning in June, and it was packed. Getting into the museum is pretty easy, but you can only visit during your assigned time slot. The museum occupies the former mansion of Prince Eugene of Savoy. There is about a paragraph in each room on the first floor explaining the function of the room when the prince lived there. None of the original furniture appears in the museum. Instead, the museum boasts a fine collection of Romanesque, Baroque, Impressionist, Secessionist, and Modernist art with work created by a number of notable names. We needed about 1 hour to see everything in the museum. Overall, I would recommend visiting the Upper Belvedere if you are a fan of architecture or painted art.

Yelp
Enjoyed this stunning museum and beautiful art pieces. So many unique collections that one can spend a long time wondering around and staring at.

Yelp
This was one of the main reasons we came into Vienna for the day. We spent a couple of hours walking through all of the art. Not only is the art collection fabulous but learning about the actual palace was fascinating. We visited at the tail-end of winter so the garden had not yet bloomed but I can imagine when in season, the grounds is gorgeous with lots of greenery. The range of art that is inside is amazing. I highly recommend visiting! We purchased tickets for the Upper Belvedere which from my understanding means the main palace. The main palace is where Klimt's "The Kiss" is located. We only bought tickets for the Upper Belvedere since we had limited time but I have heard that the Lower and Belvedere 21 are worth it as well. But just know that if you plan to visit the main palace to buy the Upper tickets. I am so glad we came here and it was one of our favorite things we did.

Yelp
Klimt and cake! I knew the Belvedere was going to be our second stop after a sacher torte. We fueled up on cake and off we went, on our way to check out some Klimts. Is the Kiss my favorite of all his work? No, but was I going to make it one of the first things I do when in town. You bet! We rode a street car here from Sacher Café in full tourist mode ;) I bought us two tickets and in we went. We very much enjoyed many of the works here (I probably had at least 5 favorites, a few Klimt's, Monet's The Chef, and Hans Makart's five panel senses series). The views from upstairs out onto the lawn/garden are just magical in the late afternoon. We walked the gardens after we left and took it all in from outside. Stunning! A must visit in my opinion, especially if you haven't been before.

Yelp
What an amazing place to celebrate art! I would visit again as May time as I am in Vienna. Belvedere Palace is worth spending on for taking a tour. Highly recommended for tourists visiting Austria.

Yelp
The Belvedere is an old castle converted to a mainly modern arts museum. Klimt's famous kiss painting is here. Focus is on 19th and 20th century paintings. There is a smaller collection of medieval art on the ground floor. Large rooms which makes it easier to view the art. 10 minutes walk to the U bahn station. Nice museum cafe with table service.
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
This museum has three locations that require different tickets. I only visited the Upper Belvedere that has a large collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt in the Permanent Collection. The architecture and interior decorations of the building are interesting to see, but the Klimt collection is the main reason for me to visit the museum. I went there on the afternoon of my last day in Viena after I debated whether to go to another museum in the very hot weather, but I was so happy that I went to the Upper Belvedere to see the fantastic Klimt paintings. Better still, the museum is air-conditioned, unlike most of the museums in Viena. This Kiss is, of course, the most famous, but there are many more that I think most people would enjoy.

Yelp
While enjoying a Viking River cruise starting in Budapest and ending in Regensburg, Germany, we loved visiting Vienna, Austria. My favorite excursion there was the Belvedere Art Museum. Belvedere features many fabulous paintings by Gustav Klimt. Klimt painted The Woman in Gold, which is the subject of a great movie with that name. We loved strolling the gorgeous grounds as well as the entire palatial museum. The Belvedere is a true gem. From the area where river cruise ships dock, it is a short walk to the subway station, which takes you to the town center, where one can get a taxi to the Belvedere. This museum should definitely be on your itinerary if you travel to Vienna!

Yelp
Oh hey!!! I love you! That is all. I came here the day after four kings day: a very cold, very snowy January day. It was snow covered and almost empty. It's a stunning castle/ museum in one. The ground are meticulously kept. And a hard walk in 15-16 degrees snow. Gorgeous nonetheless. Very cold! Once inside, you can tour the museum full of art and gorgeous paintings. Best part was lunch after in the museum cafe. No cafe is casual in wein! Definitely not the food, the presentation or the taste. I had a amazing coffee ( naturally), wurst, potatoes and cake!! When in Vienna, eat cakes! And a lot of them. I gave myself 3 hours here but ended up spending half a day here. Also, it was very cold to walk around. But still! Definitely a memorable part here next to the Vienna opera house: which I loved! And of of course: that very famous, very popular Gustav Klimt's exhibit : The kiss" earned an extra star! A must visit!

Yelp
Strictly art at the Upper Belvedere. I was hoping to catch some great "modern" early 20th century art, and architecture. But World War II bombing took its toll on the building and most of the rooms are simple galleries. There were four rooms that have been beautifully restored. Some of the main level rooms have sketches and descriptions of what the rooms were originally used for. Klimt was my biggest reason for my visit. And I was amazed. I had no idea of the changes in his style of work over the years. As I wandered I discovered other Austrian artists, and their struggles. I really recommend getting your ticket online ahead of time. On a rather cold December day I waited in line for about 30 minutes, then was given an entrance an hour and a half away. The place is big, but even with slotting the entry certain rooms get packed. There are lots of stairs. Elevator available, but not convenient.
google avatar

Dang N.

Yelp
Had no idea the original Gustav Klimt's are here. I only came just to see his pieces. Totally worth seeing them up close and in person. Museum is a little pricey, about 17 Euro but isn't crowded at all. So you'll get a chance to look at any piece here by yourself.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Belvedere is right on the edge of central Vienna, not far from the train station on tramline D. We arrived by train and took the D to our hotel so it was good to see where it was and got ourselves oriented right away. If you only have time to visit Belvedere or the Schonbrun this would probably be the better choice. Getting off at the Belvedere stop on the tram you'd start from the top building and walk down through the garden. The garden - which is beautiful with spectacular fountains is free but the museums, although quite costly, are definitely worth a visit. After exiting the park at the lower end be sure to head to Schwartzenbergplatz to check out the massive Soviet War Memorial (Heldendenkmal der Roten Armee) - also a sight not to be missed.
google avatar

Lam L.

Yelp
Go here to see the paintings and not the courtyard. You can take pictures in here; no flash. Napoleon and The Kiss is here as well as other notable paintings that im not aware of. Not a lot of people so its very easy to take pictures
google avatar

Robyn P.

Yelp
I wanted to wait and write this review until after I visited Schonbrunn, which was today. If you only have time to see one place, I would recommend Schonbrunn. Belvedere is a museum and venue for art, is housed in a Baroque style building, originally for the summer residence of Austrian Prince Eugene. The museum has the world's largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings, so if you are a fan of Klimt, this is a must do while in Vienna. One of the great features that the museum offers is an App that you can download information for many of the paintings. We only visited the upper building, and it took us about 2 hours to go through everything at a cost of $15.80 Euros per person. I really enjoyed all the stories about each painting because it helps to really explain the "Story Behind the Painting". Photographs are allowed. Masks are enforced. I enjoyed our time at the Belvedere. This was a 4 experience for me.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Is there vodka at the Belvedere? Unfortunately, not. But, what you will find if you follow the crowd is Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss", which is worth every little nudge, push, and shove to view this spectacular, iconic, piece of art. You've probably seen this artwork before in print, but the prints don't do it justice. Upon a better view, you will see the woman's hair sparkle with gold. Nothing says Europe, unless you head to an art museum to view world-renowned artists. The grounds is also picturesque. I spent so much time here enjoying the sunshine and viewing the crowds. If you get a chance, I recommend!
google avatar

Louisa M.

Yelp
You know the reason you're eager to shell out the pricey 15 euros admission fee to visit the Belvedere: Gustav Klimt. His painting "The Kiss (Lovers)" from 1907 is arguably the most famous Austrian work of art and is part of this museum's permanent collection. It's worth seeing in person because no matter how many photos you've seen of this painting of two lovers embraced in a meadow of flowers, nothing will prepare you for studying the gold leaf accented bronze paint with your own two eyes. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's so popular that there's a faux version where you can line up to take photos in front of it. The Belvedere has a good collection of sculpture too so if that's your thing, you'll really like it here. You'll also find pieces by Manet, Renoir, and other Impressionist era works. Explanations of the artwork are in both German and English, making an audio guide unnecessary. The permanent collection of 19th and 20th century Austrian is housed high atop Vienna in the Belvedere Palace, the former home of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Take time to wander the grounds and soak in the sweeping views of the city below. If you're an art lover, you'll definitely want to make the trek to visit this museum.

Yelp
The Upper Belvedere Museum is a beautiful place. Not only is the building a sight to behold but the grounds are magnificently maintained...as you would expect them to be. And unless you are driven blindfolded straight from the airport or train station, as most everyone knows, it is the home museum for Gustav Klimt. He of flowing smocks, lack of undergarments, and at least 14 children. No disrespect intended. He was who he was. With that said the works displayed by the museum are unequivocal masterpieces. To see "The Kiss" in person was a dream come true. If for some reason you don't like Klimt (something is wrong with you), the museum has many other impressive works in its collection. It is worth the visit either way.
google avatar

Carl J.

Yelp
Gorgeous park like walk and the Klimts - wowza! You should not miss this Baroque showpiece palace - the building is magnificent, the interior stunning, and we even saw some more modern art in here. And yes, there is a very nice outdoor cafe on the premises, if you feel like taking a rest. Highly recommended.

Yelp
During a whirlwind 36 hours in Vienna, we ended up staying at a hotel a short walk from the Belvedere castle and grounds. And I hadn't visited it in previous trips. So it was pretty high on my want-to-see list. We didn't have a ton of time, and didn't want to spend a ton of money, so we opted to skip going inside the museum. But the greatest thing about many of Europe's castles (at least many that I have had the great fortune to visit) is that it often doesn't cost to walk around the grounds and gardens and explore the outside of them! The same applies to the Belvedere. So, in our last few hours before our train to Prague, we walked over to the Belvedere and walked all around the grounds, around the fountains and statues, and through Erwin Wurm's "Fat House" installation. It was absolutely exquisite. All of it. Beautiful and grand, the weather was perfect and I didn't want to leave. I only wish that we had had the time to go inside because I love museums. But we had to make the most of our short time in the city and see as much as we could. I guess that just means I will have to come back to Vienna again...oh shucks! (*sarcasm*! I mean...take me back right now please!)
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
I loved the Belvedere. We had a bit of trouble getting in Bc we walked along the far outer edge of the property for a while on the wrong side. And it was freezing but eventually we just hopped on a Big Bus Tour and were dropped off right in front. Unfortunately the Christmas Market out front was closed for some reason so we didn't get to see it. But we did walk the grounds and see the gorgeous property and fountains between the Upper and Lower Belvedere buildings before entering the Upper Belvedere museum. Of course I was excited to see the Klimt paintings but there were a lot of other things to see inside - sculptures and paintings from Rembrandt and others. The interior and architecture is also pretty. I really enjoyed this museum. I'd love to come back in the spring or summer and see it when the gardens are in bloom. It's a must see in Vienna.
google avatar

Shereen C.

Yelp
The Belvedere is great. Two highlights for me were the excellent Klimt exhibition, which includes some unfinished paintings that I appreciated. They also have a Medieval Art section with an especially impressive 3-dimensional triptych of Crucifixion-related scenes -- the figures are garish and awful & the work is very intriguing. I hadn't seen anything like this before. There are also other works too, including landscapes around Vienna & Vienna woods, but the highlights for me were in the Medieval and Klimt exhibits. The palace is good to see as well. The gardens are all right, although nowhere near as impressive as Schonbrunn Palace gardens. The alpine garden, privy garden, orangerie, were all closed the day I was there. The cafe is okay -- it's in a nice setting, and the food is edible but not great, but there aren't many options right there.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
I originally wanted to visit Belvedere on the strength of the exhibited work of Gustav Klimt and the Lady in Gold Movie. That classic portrait was modeled so elegantly by Adele Bloch-Bauer. Upon entering, we chose the ticket that took us to the upper Palace area and the gardens in between. We also had a nice lunch while we were there. We loved the Klimpt work (including "The Kiss"), plus a number of other interesting works on various floors, plus of course the architecture. No photography is allowed, and the docents try their best (especially in the Klimt area) of trying to enforce it, even the smart phones. The other fascinating contrast is how the expansiveness of the Belvedere grounds contrasts with the urban density of the City just outside the gates. This palace is quite the cultural and spacial oasis.
google avatar

Lena S.

Yelp
It's another royal place)). Very beautiful palace, garden, and museum. You can feel the whole atmosphere of that era of royalty. Again the is not concrete asphalt just gravel, so be nice to your shoes)) It has a vast verity of art collection. You need more time to explore everything
google avatar

Chuck I.

Yelp
Beautiful gardens and the botanical next door free also. I loved this palace there was great art work inside and it has been kept up. The lines were not as long as the others.
google avatar

Cherise N.

Yelp
I know this place is lovely in the spring, because going during this winter it was amazing! This palace was one of my main attractions on my Vienna list. I am so glad I came. I arrived around 9:30am and there was still a good amount of people already here. But like the website says peak hours at 11a-2p, and I definitely saw the difference. There was a little a Christmas market at the entry because of the winter season, which was nice to see. I bought my ticket online, so getting in was a breeze and the people that work here were friendly and helpful. There is a mandatory bag check for backpacks and large bags. You can take your camera with you, although there are certain piece you cannot take pictures of due to copyright. I should mention that they have an audio guide in different languages to explain most of the art pieces here, I personally didn't use it because I wanted the art to speak to me lol In the first building of the palace artwork was more traditional painting styles during the 1800s, with some pieces coming from the early 1900s. The second building of the palace had more modern art with an exhibit from a Bolivian artist which was very interesting. I spent so many hours here because there are so many pieces and things to learn about them. Also, so many nice photo opportunities! If you come to Vienna you have to make your way here, transportation was easy to navigate as well.
google avatar

Joseph Y.

Yelp
A semi short walking distance from the Hauptbahnhof, I found myself dropping by to check out this royal palace. The grounds are massive and appeared to be very well taken care of and clean. I ventured around the palace to take a look at some of the beautiful design of the building. The back area with the fountains is very impressive, lots of cool stone work and garden layouts. Unfortunately I was short on time so I didn't get to explore inside or stay too long. If you enjoy castles or palaces, definitely stop by here and check it out. Just remember to stay off the grass.

Jacob S.

Yelp
Jacob's Gist: The Belvedere houses some of the worlds most influential art (Klimt's "The Kiss") but the security guards here SUCK. ============== I'm a huge fan of museums. On my trip to Europe, I tried to visit as many as I could and take in as much art as I could possibly handle. While all of the museums were good, the Belvedere was probably my second favorite museum I visited. The wide array of world-renowned artists and beautiful gardens here make the museum a must visit. Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" is an incredible piece and the highlight of the Belvedere. This is one of the most famous masterpieces in the world and seeing a picture of it does not do the piece justice. In fact, I think seeing "The Kiss" in person should be on everyone's bucket list. With that said, the security here was ridiculous. I totally understand being protective of the priceless masterpieces in the gallery. Yet when security thinks they're all that and get mad at you for sitting on the main entrance stairs or call in back up because people are "too close" to a piece (we were at least 15 cm back from it), then it just makes going to the museum a hassle. The Belvedere is a world class museum and definitely needs to be visited so don't let the insane security scare you away. I just felt it needed to be addressed because it was so crazy.
google avatar

Hailey D.

Yelp
Good collection. Really enjoyed it. I do wish all of Klimt was in one country at least but Belvedere houses the largest collection in Vienna. Plan on spending a few hours here if you want to visit both houses. I recommended that you do. The gardens are beautiful to take a break and enjoy the surroundings. I got a $2 coupon from the red bus city tour, it cost 17€ for both houses. Look for coupons. I'm sure other tours offer them too. There's a cafe at the museum but it was completely packed when I tried to grab something. There is no "take out" option, sit down only. I'd say bring a snack and enjoy it at the garden.
google avatar

Namir K.

Yelp
I know 3 star seems harsh for the Belvedere but I will explain Of course Gustav Klimt deserves alone 5 - 6 stars and to see "Judith "and the famous and magnificent" Kiss" in person is memorable but - the upper Belvedere where the paintings are exposed feels stuffy and hot ( nothing like the Albertina). -the explanations on the wall are very brief and do not go into any details ( maybe I should have bought the audio guides) - there does not seem to be an artistic and historic flow ( one jumps from Klimt and Shiele , another great Austrian painter to a small painting by Van Gogh and another by Manet and Monet - the lower Belvedere had an exhibit on flowers but I found uninspiring - some of the areas of the lower Belvedere were closed - the view of downtown Vienna from the upper part is great but the gardens were not well kept This review is 3.5 stars But again if you are in Vienna you have to go to see Klimt and Shiele regardless of the stars
google avatar

Sandy J.

Yelp
I didn't go in to the building so it's not fair for me to say the full review for this place but it is definitely worth walking through the area although the gardens can't beat Schlon Schlossberg. You can get in free. Its hard to get a panorama of this place so your first challenge you can try is to get it! The gardens are green grass with stone pathways and fountains. There's also a random snowman in the middle of the walk way so make sure you get a goofy pic with this guy. I think the most breathtaking part is when you go in between the two ends of the buildings. Large garden at the bottom of the hill with nice tall well planted trees running up and down the garden like a mini maze. Definitely very nice if you're warming up for Schlon. It's quieter here so you don't have as many tourists and can even bring a book to read in this area. Its alittle tricky to get into this place if you're walking as it's gated by thick concrete walls but keep walking and following the walls and you'll end up at one of the entrances to either end!!

Mendy Y.

Yelp
I don't usually like many museums but the Belvedere was such a treat! From the stunning grounds (reminded me a lot of a mini Versailles) to the contents of the museum, I thought it was a very informative and aesthetically pleasing experience. I bought tickets to the Upper Belvedere only, which you can easily spend 2 hours on. At first I bumbled around on my own, but then I noticed that there was an audio guide. The audio guide is a must have, as it does a great job not only explaining many of the art pieces but also the grounds/history of the Belvedere itself. This is a great option in Vienna-not to miss!
google avatar

Rima F.

Yelp
Always an amazing museum! this time we went only to the Unterest or Lower Belfedere and saw the exhibit on female Austrian artists of the early 1900s. A truly fabulous, large and educational exhibit. Not to be missed!!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Must see if you are a fan of Klimt...this is where his Kiss painting hangs. Be ready for a crowd in that gallery but not too bad elsewhere. Pretty grounds too. I recommend going during the day as the nighttime did not lend to as nice of a view in my opinion.

Yelp
This is a go to in Vienna, you must visit! The landscape of he palace is huge and it's beautiful just to walk around. The inside is elegant and the sculpture outside have an interesting stance to them. I highly recommend taking a walk around the garden, it's beautiful and peaceful.

Yelp
Buy your tickets for the Upper and Lower Belvedere. The architecture is beautiful, and the gardens are probably more beautiful in summer than winter, but I must say that the real draw is The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. The place has a good collection of art pieces and Klimts, but man oh man. To see The Kiss in person is pretty surreal. No photography of The Kiss is allowed, but they have a replica piece you can take a selfie with, in way better lighting. The Kiss is housed in a dark room with other Klimt pieces like Judith. Toilets are clean here.

Yelp
the outside of the museum is beautiful! Its free to walk around the outside, and look at the gardens. I paid 11e for a student ticket to the 'upper' part of the museum, which is the normal part of the museum. It's relatively easily laid out, with 3 floors and 6 exhibits, you can go through the whole museum in less than 2 hours, but there's a lot of great pieces! The view from the windows is great too!

Yelp
A mid-April visit to Belvedere Museum and Palace made for a pleasant afternoon. It was too early in the year to see the gardens in their glory -- the fountains did not have water, yet -- but we found the Upper & Lower Belvedere museum collections and architecture to be more than enough to occupy a few enjoyable hours (after getting through the not so well managed ticket line). Lower Belvedere's Marble Hall (Marmorsaal) was particularly memorable -- the ceiling, the walls, the reliefs, the original Donnerbrunnen fountain statues, and light streaming in from the windows could be overwhelming if one attempts to take it all in at once, but spending a few minutes had us appreciating all the interesting works presented in that one, wonderful room.

Yelp
I hate to have to say this, but i feel I must be objective in relation to my experiences. This was the first castle I visited in Vienna, and I think it is the first castle I visited ever. Unfortunately, I must quote fellow Yelper "Stephen H." and say that this place was "Underwhelming." The castle/museum does have a good deal of elaborateness. There are high ceilings with lovely moulding, and the architecture/floor design is pleasantly simple. However, in terms of actual rooms, aside from the cathedral and waiting room, it was just a very pleasant art museum. Unless you are a history buff, I would say the guided tour is not worth it. Guided tour's focus is more on important works - those that are related to the House of Hapsburg, or the famous "The Kiss" Even with the guided tour, It is very possible to work your way through the entire [upper] Belvedere in half a day. It is also very neat that this museum carries unfinished paintings, something which i have never seen before, and is rather uncommon in museums. I did not have the opportunity to tour the lower Belvedere or the gardens. (although the gardens do seem to be very nice)

Yelp
The Upper Belvedere is a great collection of art in a beautiful palace, but not so much that you are exhausted. We were there less than two hours and saw everything. The line to see Klimt's "Kiss" was long, but moved along and each room had so much to look at.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning! I watched Woman in Gold with Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds before coming to the Belvedere, so I thought I was prepared. I was mistaken. I got my group to dedicate 3 hours to the Belvedere which I thought would be plenty of time. Again, I was mistaken. I wish I got here as soon as it opened and I might have been able to separate with the incredible paintings maybe a few minutes before they closed. The tickets are kind of expensive, but as Gustov Klimt is one of my favorite artists of all time, I had to see this gallery. When I stepped in front of The Kiss, my heart literally hurt in my chest and I knew I was seeing something very, very special. All the exhibits in the Belvedere fascinated me. But this might be personal biased. My husband and sister were incredibly bored while I was still on the second story (there are 3 levels of galleries...in the upper collection). I won't bore you with details, so I'll move on to what I wasn't expecting: The Belvedere isn't a fancy museum on the outside. It was a palace. This means that each and every room inside this palace is it's own work of art. No plain, white walls with accent lighting. No. Some rooms were their own murals, there was a two story chapel in one wing, each room had bas relief molding on the ceilings, and the woodwork and marble was a masterpiece in itself. As an art enthusiast, I was overwhelmed. I couldn't fathom and take in everything in just a few short hours, and I didn't even make it to the Belvedere Lower Collection where the famous portrait of Napoleon on a rearing horse was on exhibit! The gardens are low, but beautiful. As 6pm rolled around and the Belvedere had closed, locals began to show up in running gear to run the incline and get some good distance in. The grounds are very large, and there's plenty of room walk and run. It was beautiful and I'm so happy I got to go here! I definitely recommend it, even if it's for posterity's sake :)

Yelp
Another impressive palatial residence in Vienna that is a must see. It's more of a museum but it's elegant and more. There is also a beautiful garden adjacent to the palace.

Yelp
I was here on a cold December day so the Gardens were not appealing; however, they look as if they would be fantastic in the spring. I came primarily to view the Gustav Klimt collection which must be the largest collection of his work anywhere and is not to be missed if you are in Vienna. I am a great fan of Art Noveau and this was definitely on my to do list. You have probably seen many of his works in print but the vivid colors just don't come through in the same way as they do when viewed in person. The rest of the collection apart from those of Klimt is okay but nothing particularly spectacular. There is one of the five versions of David's famous paintings of Napoleon Crossing the Alps on a rearing horse. As suggested by other reviewers it is a good idea to get tickets on line to avoid a long wait. Also as pointed out by others the elevators are slow so you will probably want to use the stairs. There is a nice gift shop with some nice Klimt oriented articles.

Yelp
I came to see The Kiss by Gustav Klimt and found much more to enjoy. The gardens are beautiful, the upper palace which has the kiss is a work of art itself. I saw beautiful pieces by Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Manet, as well as other periods. I especially enjoyed the medieval art area wiith gorgeous alter panels and i admired the presentation in particular. Inspiring rooms. They have a pretty cafe with a nice selection of light meals, desserts and drinks. Of course, I bought many Klimt souvenirs in the beautiful gift shop. I gained instant entry with the Vienna pass so I avoided the ticket lines. Bathrooms are busy here though so don't wait too long or go before you come. There is a cafe across the street too by the hop bus stop.
