Belvoir Street Theatre was such a pleasant surprise for my wife and me! We usually lean toward big musical productions, but this little gem gave us a completely different kind of theatre experience—and we absolutely loved it. The venue itself has a homely, intimate charm. It’s small in the best way possible—you feel close to the action, connected to the cast, and fully immersed in the story. It’s not just a seat in the crowd—it’s like being part of the performance. We saw “Koreaboo” and it was awesome! Clever writing, great acting, and such a refreshing blend of humour and heart. Being able to watch the actors perform up close added so much energy and emotion—it made for a truly memorable first visit to Belvoir. The staff were welcoming, the atmosphere was relaxed, and everything felt thoughtfully curated. It’s the kind of theatre that draws you in and makes you want to come back—not just for the shows, but for the whole experience. If you’re used to big-budget musicals and haven’t tried smaller stage productions yet, Belvoir is the perfect place to start. We’ll definitely be returning—it’s a new favourite for us!

The seating is perfect at Belvoir Theatre, always a clear view of the stage. Atmospheric foyer area with light meals and drinks. I saw the Spare Room tonight starring Judy Davis and although a difficult subject Death, it was done so well . It's so important to have a sense of humour to lighten the load. Well done to all the cast. I previously saw Into the Woods which was very entertaining. A great theatre.

One of my favourite theatre to give the high quality drama per calendar. This spare room is the one I was so keen to watch. The preview performance is beyond my expectations.

Enjoyed, experienced, laughed and entertained with "The Spare Room", great venue, close seating to the talented actors. And easy to get there via central station and other transport. Plenty of eateries close bye

Belvoir St Theatre….is where LOVE, Lives. Tonight I attended one of the most extraordinary plays ever written and transcribed onto the stage in the most joyful, mesmerising and tormenting ways possible. I feel like I’ve been finger-banged by my evil twin. And that was after just 37 minutes. I had to leave, I couldn’t handle it; the pain was just too devastating….I have a Severe Compressive Neck Injury and I just had to go……but the response I got from the Theatre staff: especially Meg was what blew me away. The concern, the humility and the good grace to see someone broken and help them find their feet was such a nice surprise… A stiff drink was poured….I was offered water….but I went straight for the batched Negroni. Meg listened and laughed while I chewed her ear off for the rest of my drink….because that is how i cope with the pain…..trying to have a laugh…. She thought I was hilarious bless her cotton socks…..And she laughs with her teeth…all exposed and stunning…like a freshly painted white picket fence. I came to see a play; but I met Meg and I will never forget her kindness. The play by the way is our next national Icon. Toby is unbelievable as always.and the play is called…..Grief is the Thing With Feathers…..sell your soul to get a ticket…hands down Fabulous.

Saw a play The Wrong God's. Belvoir is a quaint old theatre with a 3 sided stage. It can seat a few hundred people and has a cafe/ bar on the ground floor. There are numerous flights of stairs to climb with only a single lift available. Easy to get there by Light rail and limited roadside parking is available.

I love this theatre. It is intimate with plenty of seats that are great to view from. Recently we saw The Spare Room with Judy Davis. What an outstanding performance. Belvoir always has engaging productions throughout the year. I do like the bar area as well which is great for one or two drinks before the performance.

Yelp
Obviously everyone has different taste in art and every play is different, so I can't begin to tell you if you're going to enjoy a performance here. However, I can say that both productions I've seen here (Seventeen in 2015 and The Blind Giant is Dancing in 2016) featured excellent actors, effective (but low cost) sets and quick moving pacing--nothing dragged on or made me wonder how much time was left in the performance. As a theatre buff and former theatre student, that's pretty high praise. Also, the dynamic pricing is incredibly smart, and I saved enough money using it to buy a voucher for the cafe. Although my flat white was burnt, the orange and cardamom cake was outstanding. For Seventeen, a box office team member went out of his way to find same-day tickets my partner and I (both students) could afford, even when student tickets were sold out. Can't wait to go back. If I could afford it, I would absolutely buy a membership and commit to going more often. Kudos.

Yelp
I visited Belvoir to see the stirring "Kill the Messenger" play written by Nakkiah Lui. The venue is 3 stories high with an extensive bar featuring a variety of local wines, beer and cider. Support local theatre and check out whatever is playing!!

Yelp
Authentic theatre - you walk into Belvoir and you can just feel the drama in the walls. Its an actors theatre, with the shows performed here being driven by the love of the art above anything else.... that said, expect something good.... I saw Geoffrey Rush perform here a few years ago and he and the play was simply outstanding. The Belvoir encourages new artists too, with smaller spaces available for emerging talents to show off their works in a professional area. It's very competitive to get an offer to use the space, so you know you're not going to be watching something completely amateur. I can't guarantee you will love the play you're seeing as it varies from season to season but I can tell you, that you will love the experience. A great place to get your cultural groove on.

Yelp
Last night I attended "The Dark Room" at t he Belvoir Street theatre. I admit it has been a few years since I have been to Belvoir, but I used to see quite a few plays there and as soon as i walked into the theatre last night I realised I must go more often. I don't go to the theatre much, but Belvoir is worth going to as they are at the top of their game, being (in my opinion) the home of the countries most cutting edge theatre companies, particularly company B. I used to see a lot of compant B productions when I was a teenager and would reuglarly see performances featuring Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Jacqueline McKenzie & Richard Roxborough, before any of them became big stars and many of the profuctions were directed by the great Neil Armfield. So many Australian actors have cut their teeth at Belvoir and then gone on to have huge Hollywood careers. Belvoir excells on every level, from Staging to Sound & Lighting design, it is always innovative & inspiring.

Yelp
Fantastic place to take in a bit culture. I watched the Wild Duck by Henrik Ibsen and it was a very interesting Australiana take of it. The actors performed within the bounds of a glass cube, which worked well as on of the characters was a live duck, quack! The auditorium seats about just under 100 people. I enjoyed waiting for the show to start, the foyer seconds as a bar where you can get a glass of wine and read up on upcoming shows. It's very rustic and earthy the crowd is a mix of middle-aged subscribers and young theatre buffs. So it's really anyones game. I'm lucky enough to know one of the bar-tenders / ushers a young Sydney actor Jackie - she's sure to offer her finest hospitality on your visit.

Yelp
I've seen many productions at the Belvoir Theatre in Surry Hills. With an outstanding reputation and a recently renovated premises, the Belvoir Theatre always has something interesting, something hilarious or something hilariously interesting in its seasonal program. Most recently I went to the Belvoir to see a play called 'Gwen in Purgatory.' They were lucky tickets, tickets that came to me when the rightful theatre goers were called away to travel overseas, and the tickets, being non exchangeable fell to me. Myself and a friend, (Pardon moi: My friend and I) went to the Sunday Matinee and as expected joined the audience of elderly people to watch the hilarious play about a woman who is getting on and has a priest come to bless her new house. (The plot is more complex than that but I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.) The play was a hoot and it wasn't even ruined by the audience of theatre goers who narrated and commented on every little detail, "He's not going to do that is he?", "Oh no, he shouldn't have said that." and "Look there he is, he's at the door." As though they were watching a filmic pantomime. The Belvoir has two theatres, one up a long flight of stairs and the other, a downstairs, street level theatre. There's a courtyard where people can smoke and have a drink during interval, but being a residential area, must keep the noise down late at night.
