12 Most Scenic Overlooks in U.S. National Parks

"From Morton Overlook along U.S. 441/Newfound Gap Road I can see both North Carolina and Tennessee and appreciate why the range is called the Great Smoky Mountains—the landscape often seems shrouded in haze; it's a perfect place to finish the day for a stunning sunset, and Newfound Gap lookout lies less than a mile further along the road." - Skye Sherman Skye Sherman Skye Sherman is a travel writer based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Beautiful overlook with many signs describing the history of the park and the biodiversity/nature found within. The bathrooms were clean and there is hand sanitizer instead of sinks. We went early in the morning around 8am, so there was still a lot of fog, but it slowly cleared up. Best time to go would be the late morning or afternoon.

We are traveling socail media influencers & there are so many beautiful places to enjoy a sunset along Newfound Gap Road, also known as US-441. This is one of our favorites among many! Absolutely breathtaking views & so many beautiful colors! ❤️🩷🧡💜💙 Definitely worth the stop at sunset if you're around the Gatlinburg, TN or Cherokee, NC area! Check out our adventures @DIESELANDMO on all social media ✌️💫🤙

We took the advice from the volunteers at Visitor Center. Passed by at 3 pm, then returned around 6 pm for sunset around 830pm as parking is limited for about 7-8 cars. The clouds are cooperating and the sunset was amazing! Worth the wait!

Ben Morton Overlook is hands down the most stunning viewpoint I’ve encountered in the park. The lush, rolling mountains stretch endlessly into the distance, and the way the road winds gently through the valley adds a unique, almost cinematic touch to the view. It feels like a hidden gem—peaceful, panoramic, and perfect for photos or just soaking in the natural beauty. If you’re driving along Newfound Gap Road, this is a must-stop. I’ve seen many overlooks, but this one truly stands out. Highly recommend making time for it!

Breathtaking views of the smokys, especially for sunsets. Spot is mostly occupied as it is high in demand. Location can accommodate little over 5 vehicles only.

Our stay at the Smokies has been wonderful and today, we went around noon, driving around after 2 days of rain, and were pleasantly surprised by the layer of snow/ice from the viewing spot. It was so so beautiful. So glad we chose to come here.

The car ride to get to Ben Morton Overlook was fantastic. You see the mountains before you with clouds passing through and wonder how to get up there. I made a few stops for breath taking views along the way. However, once you reach Ben Morton Overlook you realize that the trip was all worth it. There were a few hidden gems near this place as well so make sure you stop along the way!
