The museum is located on a main avenue, with an entrance fee of €12.50. We visited on a weekday around noon, and it was very quiet, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The layout inside the museum is extremely easy to follow. The exhibits are clearly numbered, and you simply move from one section to the next, with each number representing works from a specific historical period. This makes the visit very smooth and well-organized. Because it was so calm, walking through the museum was truly pleasant and relaxing. In addition, the collection includes many impressive and high-quality artifacts. We genuinely enjoyed our visit. I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone visiting Athens.

Wow! Great collection not only from ancient times. Definitely recommend. Make sure to take your headphones with you (they have an audio guide). 3 or 4 hours will be enough to enjoy the whole collection.

Amazing collection of artifacts! Well organized museum that guides your chronologically through time and has signs in Greek and English. QR codes at each case too to hear descriptions in more languages. We stayed for 2 hours but barely made it past the year 400 AD. I could have spent 5 hours here!! Thursday evenings are free, so thank you to the other Google reviewer who let us know that

Top tip - free entry on Thursday evening's from 1800hrs (I suggest check with the museum if in doubt). We visited on a Thursday evening in January and it wasn't busy at all. The museum is an absolute gem - three floors packed with exhibits (all clearly labelled and with English translation). Very well laid out and in themes which are all different and interesting. Well worth a visit - I think the entrance fee is 12 euros if you don't get in for free on a Thursday evening. It's easy to find too - just a few easy minutes walk up a main road from Syntagma Square.

Very intersting museum to discover more about Greece and Athens trought the history. The restaurant on the 3rd floor offer a good food and drinks and view on tjhe botanical garden. Ideal if you want to make a break during your visit. There is also a souvenir shop.

Amazing museum. My husband & I spent 5 hours in September 2025, roaming around this museum, with so much to see & learn. Had to take a little break at the magnificent Restaurant/Cafe. From the amazingly beautiful Neo Classical building to the excellent set up & easy navigation of the museum, it was a truly wonderful experience. The staff were also extremely helpful & knowledgeable & gave us a lot of information about the museum, the displays & history. I highly recommend a visit to this museum.

This exhibition is noteworthy, distinguished by its tasteful organization and engaging presentation. The curation effectively immerses the visitor in the rich history of this remarkable culture. A significant highlight is the building's rooftop, which features an attractive terrace and an integrated cafe, offering a pleasant and sophisticated amenity for visitors. On Sunday at around 11 am you can watch the parade of the Presidential Guard from the terrace. Overall, the experience was deeply absorbing and highly enjoyable, providing a profound appreciation for the subject matter's historical depth.

There is some overlap with the focus of the National Archaeological Museum (which is impossible to compete with), but mostly the Benaki Museum shows much more recent Greek history and culture through architecture and fashion. The reconstructed interiors (there are two large ones and one small one) seem to be the only exhibits which hold the visitors' attention. It is really very expensive for approx. 20 minutes of stimulation.
