17 Best Things to Do in Athens, From Hitting the Beach to Gazing at Ruins | Condé Nast Traveler

"In the former atelier of modernist Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, this richly layered retrospective of 20th-century Greek art is a must within the Benaki constellation, offering a concentrated hit of modern Hellenic creativity in a space that still feels like an artist’s world." - Rachel Howard

We spent two hours at the museum. It has a great exhibition from 700BC to the 1800s. I definitely recommend it

Highly recommend. This amazing museum offers deep insights into modernist art movement in Greece. Intimate, not crowded, insightful.

The collection was a pleasant surprice. The museum has five stores. In the first three there are paintings and sculpture from all the main modern greek artists. There are also some intresting historical relics (if one is intrested in things like that) like the pistol that was used by (the poet) kariotakis or the nobel prise of (the poet) Ritsos. The last floors are hosting the exsibition of the modern painter nikos hatgikiriakos gykas. The last two floors have his house and atelie as it was. Overall a very nice place to visit if you arr looking for greek modern art. The staff was very friendly (One can also visit frisiras museum in plaka for contemporary art and the national gallery-glyptotek near ethniki amina metro station. For a history of modern greek art)

This is a marvellous jewel of amuseum that deserves to be better known and more visited. Over five floors of what used to be artist Hadjikyriakos-Ghika's home and studio there unfolds a panorama of Greek art and artists in the interwar years. Painting, sculpture, music, theatre, craft are all represented in a fascinating array of exhibits and documentary evidence.

Great place to learn about the cultural landscape of Greece in the modern era. Not only does the gallery have a rich collection of Greek artworks but also offers introduction to many Greek musicians, thinkers and writers. People in the gallery are also very friendly and helpful.

Many collections. Worth a visit. Make sure to have at least an hour there as there are many floors plus the impressive top floor where he lived.

Don't come here for Instagrammable selfies, come to intellectually engage and appreciate modern Greece. What made this contemporary art museum such a rewarding visit was its survey of Greek artists, composers and writers who sought to redefine Greek identity post WWII and again during the dictatorship. With the beauty of Athens' temples and archaeological museums, it's easy to miss how consequential these artists were, how even some of the popular songs that we think of now when we think of Greece had their roots in these political and artistic movements.
