Bennett Bay Bistro

Visited on Easter Sunday and Monday during the April 20–21 long weekend in the year 2025. Nestled inside the beautiful Mayne Island Resort, Bennett Bay Bistro is a charming beachfront escape where flavors meet the ocean breeze. Every dish we tried had its own little story: Drunken Serrano Prawns Big, juicy prawns that tasted incredibly fresh — you can feel the snap as you bite. The vodka butter sauce was rich and comforting, and the warm bread and basmati rice made it a complete, cozy plate. Grilled Chicken Burger The chicken itself was quite plain, but the real magic came from the hot sweet chilli sauce and spices. Together, it tasted way better than expected. The fresh-cut fries were crispy and addictive. A good, satisfying pick. Definitely a must try! Salmon Burger A hearty bite with a generous chunk of salmon, making it a filling meal. While the salmon itself leans bland, the overall burger experience is satisfying, especially if you love a good, heavy sandwich. You will feel full, but not wowed. The fresh cut fries all always a saviour. Crispy Chicken Asian Bowl Portion size was on the smaller side. The deep-fried chicken was quite oily, but the maple sauce tossed over it along with basmati rice dded a great sweet-salty twist that saved the dish. Tasty, but chicken is very oily. Home Fried Chicken The chicken was heavily deep-fried and tasted flat on its own. Without the sweet chili sauce on the side, it would have been too dry and very oily. The mashed potatoes and veggies helped balance it a bit, but wouldn’t call this a standout. Ginger Ale pop No cans, but served ice-cold in a glass. Simple, chilled, refreshing. The servers are genuinely kind, attentive, and generous, making the experience even better. If you sit outside, you will get an amazing beach view with one of the most peaceful dining spots you on Mayne Island.

Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was incredible—we had the burgers, and they were simply exceptional, packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality. The staff were warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. And the view from the dining area? Absolutely breathtaking. This place has it all: great food, friendly vibes, and an unforgettable atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Scenic Dining with Delicious Food Bennett Bay Bistro is an amazing spot to stop and dine, especially if you can sit outside overlooking the sea. The location is stunning, surrounded by rocks and calm waters, making for a serene and beautiful dining experience. The food and service were both great. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. We ordered the French Dip Handheld with truffle fries, and both were delicious—the dip, in particular, was outstanding. If you’re in the area, this is definitely a place worth visiting for the views and the food.

Great meal, great view, ok price. The kids loved the poutine. Happy kids happy life right? The tuna bowl was definitely worth it.

Rained in and looking for a quick drink and snack. Really enjoyed food/ drink and attentive service! Beautiful ocean view even on a rainy day!

We were staying at the resort so got takeout for dinner. We could tell the place was busy as many came to dine here every day. We got the Wharf burger, Beef Dip, and Calimari Salad. Paid $4 extra per meal to sub fries for the chowder. Everything tasted amazing! The beef dip and calamari were outstanding.

Had high hopes, but the food was overall pretty underwhelming. The halibut was especially disappointing—dry, lacking any real flavor, and definitely not what you’d expect for the price. The atmosphere and menu felt more like a basic pub than a proper restaurant. Not terrible, but not something I’d go out of my way to recommend either

Overall a disappointing experience. Pros: great views, delicious sustainably caught scallops as appetizer Cons: service was incredibly painfully frustratingly slow, expensive for what it was Recommendation: don't come here. Rather buy some locally baked bread and delicious cheeses and other goodies from Farm Gate and sit on the beach! Same views, way better value for money, no wait times!

Lovely restaurant with good food made with fresh ingredients! The wait staff is always kind and friendly, and the atmosphere is down to earth and relaxing. The soup and salad bar are so delicious and fresh. I've tried the nachos, chicken wings, steak salad, halibut, fries, etc. over the years, and the quality and the freshness of the food always impressed me. The fries are so good. So crunchy. Yum. This is sometimes the only restaurant open on Mayne Island so we're lucky that it serves good food. I will be back next time I visit Mayne.

Located in the Mayne Island Resort it's a decent restaurant. We stayed at the resort so ate here a few times. They currently are only open 4 to 9pm so it's limited on when you can dine there. Make reservations if you can. The food was good, fries are awesome and home cut. The cheesecake was pretty darn tasty, it was a cinnamon bun but had cheesecake on the outside. Delish. This restaurant is good, service on the slower side but I know staffing is an issue so can't fault anyone for that.

My wife and I come Mayne every six weeks or so. We ALWAYS have a couple of meals at the BB Bistro. Never been disappointed. Wide variety of menu items, friendLy staff and they are always looking at different ways to showcase the location and great view. Love it!!!! Ken B

Went here as part of the romance package at the Mayne island resort. The waitress we had was very pleasant and attentive. We had a reservation at 6 at a ok table out on the patio but she asked if we wished to move to a nicer table with a better view. It had a reservation at 8 she warned us but as long as we were done before that it shouldn't be a problem. I thought that was very nice of her to do that. We ordered an appy crod cakes(crab) and it was packed with crab and quite delicious. They were placed on a bed of salad as well. For my main i ordered seafood lasagna, not what I was expecting. It was ok, wasn't horrible of anything just not what I was in the mood for after the fact. It's a cream based sauce not tomato. My fiancé ordered from the summer special menu a chicken burger. I think it had crispy onions or something on it and a sweet Demi glaze of some sort. Different not bad. Decent portion of fries with her burger. For dessert we ordered a Berry cheesecake which was decent as well. Overall solid food, nothing super out of the ordinary but for a nice beautiful view looking out over the water and good service and solid food.. Can't go wrong.

Tired and hungry after a disc golf tournament at Dinner Bay. A journey around the island and ended up here... What a nice surprise! Server was friendly and accommodating when informing the restaurant was setting up for a private function but the patio was available. No problem, it was a warm sunny evening so yes please for the amazing view! Quiet and tranquil. Ordered the Sticky Maui Beef Ribs to start. A bit on the sweet side as a preference but grilled to tender perfection and finger licking good. Next was the Southwestern Crispy Chicken Burger. The buttermilk fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, topped with tangy dijon coleslaw and bourbon barbecue sauce. A delicious burger. About $15 per dish. Bennett Bay Bistro is putting out good food in a beautiful setting. A great place to visit while on Mayne Island and take it all in...

Took forever to get our food. Food was not good. Miso salmon bowl was so salty and had no soba noodles or boo Choi as per the description. Halibut was dry. Three out of four of us had hairs in our food.

Food is generally alright-great and was the only resto i tried out of the whole island. Choose it for its unique dishes. Mushroom Linguini was my fave. Seafood clam chowder was good! Peanut Curry Bowl was good, could use some spice. Brie appy was good. Sourdough brie grilled cheese -didnt love the sour cherry jam it was too overpoweringly sweet. we also ordered it without the bacon. Salad and fries were nothing special. Tuna Tataki appy -rice was stale and dry. wasnt tasty, more plain, and one piece was overcooked, but generally alright. was 105$ for everything Had a take out order. unfortunately, they forgot the Coconut Calamari, which we really wanted to try! They dont do delivery so i had to call back and ask what they planned to do as I couldnt drive there at that point. Am waiting for the credit card refund transaction to show on my end. Service:alright but limited cause I had take out. Ambiance/setting: looked modern chill and rad from the entrance where i waited for my take out. there was a bar, also dining area, and a kid at the table drawing lol, so friendly all around i'd say. Note: There was a huge power outage the next day and my hosts told me they were the ONLY open resto. They were serving food probably from gas but had no cable etc.

Inconsistent-some nights & days we had amazing service & meals & others we did not.....,its worth trying at least once!

On our stay last week at Mayne Island, we dined at the Bennett Bay Bistro and were very happy with the friendly and personable customer service my table received from our waitress Brynn. We enjoyed the food as well. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, she was cheerful and made us feel welcome and valued - unlike the front desk staff at the Mayne Island Resort.

We are huge fans of this gorgeous restaurant right on the water. The setting is stunning, an absolutely gorgeous patio. the staff are super friendly and attentive. Menu is delicious, lots to choose from though we are always partial to the mussels! Make a reservation, word is out how great this place is and, they are busy especially during Summer months!
