Great place to stay, stayed there last year and just got back from there this year. The owner is very friendly and the employees are very friendly. Felt safe and comfortable there. Also very clean! Fresh nicely folded towels and wash clothes on the corner of your bed. Soap, shampoo and conditioner are always filled up. The bathrooms and showers are all clean too. There's a kitchen and a common room to watch TV or movies and get on their or your computer. Also the location is great you're just a very short walk from downtown Anchorage stores and activities. I'll be back there for sure.

On cleanliness, convenience and the accommodating of guests, this is the standard that should count for all hostels and inns. Even as a 8-bed dormitory, this place is one I would seek out in Anchorage over and over again. The owner is a super guy as well, and very approachable. His contributions to the industry in the form of how prices are balanced with the standards he holds should not go unnoticed. Towels, shower/shampoo/conditioner are all taken care of and supplied. Beds are clean, floors, showers and restrooms are too. The rooms have windows for ventilation and they have a specific room operated by staff only for bigger luggage. Kitchen space is available as well as storage for food. The inn has a common room for hanging out with a relaxed atmosphere on the staff-floor. I heard of an event (through one who was there) from the night before where a guest in the dorm was hallucinating and freaking out from drug-use making the night bad for all parties there. When the staff was notified, this was taken care of immediately as far as I understood it. Yes, I would stay here again! And I probably will.

The mattress are very old, you can feel the springs very well... and the bunk beds are not very steady. The toilets are very clean. Breakfasts are basic. The location is very good, close to city centre. But traffic on the street are quite loud till late at night and can be disturbing so you need earplugs. Staffs are ok. Some older guests didn't allow others to use the wc (with sinks, showers, toilets, changing area) while they were showering... strange. An older woman with lower body naked wandered around the front of the building (probably not much the hostel can do, but not so pleasant if you need to get in or out).

No rooms available in town because of a convention but, John got a for my wife and I for 1 night. Very thankful for making that happen. Nice clean room and John was very nice.

Hello!. I stayed 2 night's. Ian was extremely helpful, professional, kind and very giving. I'm a traveling chef and he surprised me with a fantastic wild game cookbook. Gave it to me with well wishes. Women's bathroom very clean, plenty of new towles, soap, conditioners, body wash?, " ya can't beat that " !. Bed was comfortable and room was WARM, YOU WON'T FREEZE!!!.. Thanks for the hospitality, it's been appreciated... Best, Chef Sharon

Good value for money. Clean rooms and very good location. We arrived around 1 AM and it took the receptionist a lot of time and knocking for us for him to get up and give us the keys. Please put a proper alarm/ringer.

Excellent! Great location. Very clean and quiet. All staff excellent and friendly . Met Luke on arrival at front desk. showed me around. Luke is very friendly and accommodating. Great introduction to Bent Prop. Management provides towels and wash cloth, laundry, refrigeration, cooking, microwave, computer facilities; big screen tv (separate room). 24 hour operation. Awesome.

The hostel itself is nice and so is the location. Most of the staff is very attentive and easy to get along with, the exception would be Cynthia. She was very rude the entire time I was there. I went out of my way to be cordial to her,but to no avail. I thought it was just me but I noticed that she was very disagreeable towards many customers.

Yelp
So for a last minute place to stay, the Bent Prop Inn and Hostel was decent. Unfortunately I just couldn't shake the bizarre welcome we received. After driving from Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, we realized we needed a place to stay for the night as we were flying out of Anchorage at 9am the next morning. So, once we got cellular service back, I looked up some hostels in the downtown Anchorage area and called Bent Prop Inn. The phone call went something like this, Me: "Do you have availability for tonight for two people?" Bent Prop Inn (BPI): "Yes, would you like a four bed dorm room or an eight bed dorm room?" Me: "Are they the same price?" BPI: "Yes, both rooms are $30 per night, per person." Me: "Great! How about the four bed dorm room." BPI: "Ok, I will put you down, come by anytime." Awesome! Another night we didn't have to sleep in the car!!! So when we were finished eating at Snow City Cafe, we ventured over to the hostel to check in. What a mistake. Arriving at 3:42pm, we were told that check in didn't start until 4pm and we were more than welcome to sit and hang out on the couch directly in front of their registration desk. Uh, awkward, no thanks. We returned to our rental car and drove around a bit. When we asked where we could park upon returning to the hostel, the young lady at the front desk told us she wasn't sure because she didn't have a car. Um, whether you have a car or not, you should be able to recommend a place for guests to park. Upon reviewing their website for this review, it says parking is available for $4 a day. I wonder where that was! I know I could have (and should have) explored the hostel myself but it would have been really nice if we were informed about the free WiFi, kitchen area, and other amenities when we checked in. The rooms and bathroom were both clean. It was kind of weird that the janitorial staff were cleaning at like 7 or 8pm and that there was a person sleeping on the couch behind the check in desk. I loved the ability to walk to downtown Anchorage if I went left but didn't quite feel comfortable walking to the right. Like I said before, it was a place to stay and it was very A-OK.

Yelp
This hostel is a gem located within walking distance of shopping, dining, large parks, and bus stops. The owner John is personally invested in his two hostels and the positive experience he expects for his guests. He hires and trains his staff for superb customer service and cleanliness. If you can arrange it, be there for Sunday morning as John cooks up blueberry pancakes for everyone! The mattress is not the softest, but it comes with a plastic wrap (no bed bugs!), freshly made with clean sheets and blanket, and a set of towels. There are washers and dryers and two kitchens.

Yelp
We stayed at Bent Prop on our first and last night in Alaska. The first evening we had reserved a private room. It was exceptionally simple, with a bed and one side table, but our bathroom was right outside the door, and they provided towels for us. It was quiet, inexpensive and just what I expected from a hostel. On our last night in Alaska, EVERY hotel in Anchorage was booked solid (I wish I was exaggerating, but we made calls for hours). We stopped back into Bent Prop and even though they were nearly full, they put us in separate bunk rooms (women's and men's). The bunk room was tight for sure, with 6 girls, a lot of luggage, and people coming in and out frequently - but, pretty typical hostel. What impressed me about Bent Prop was the staff. On both our evenings, the staff were SO friendly and went above and beyond to help us. If you are on a budget, this a great place to stay.

Yelp
I stayed here long term in the off season. John and Dave are great, extremely helpful. I paid $125 per week, the first week I was in a dorm with 8 beds. After that they moved me to a room with 1 bunk bed for 3 weeks and I only had to share it for 2 nights. Some of the guests are a little strange, you can expect out of work fishermen and people from remote villages that came to Anchorage for medical treatment. They also have a mid-town location that I hear is better. If you are cheap and need a place to stay in Anchorage check this place out.

Yelp
The hostel at 700 H Street needs DESPERATE repairs. You think you're getting a private room and when you get there you learn that you have to share a bathroom with many others. Don't let the pictures fool you. The room really smelled. I was afraid to even get into bed. There were people coming and going late at night, making lots of noise. Someone else came and left when they found out they had to share a bathroom.

Yelp
Stayed here for two weeks in September in the dorm setting for $25 per night. The 7th night is free. The living and tv room are very spacious and the lichen is huge and very well stocked with every pot, pan, and utensil you may need. This hotel is kept very clean and bc I came during the off season there was never a wait for showers or the bathroom. There is free wi-fi and a single computer station for those who may not have a tablet or laptop of their own. Great place, glad I stayed there.

Yelp
The staff is the best part of the experience. Very friendly and helpful. The place is clean enough for a Hostel but their WiFi didn't work at all the 3 days I was there. It said "connected" but I couldn't get online. I know I wasn't the only one with that issue. I had poor roommate experiences but that's not the hostels fault, but when I was checking out, 2 other people were trying to switch rooms too. As far as hostels go, its not horrible. The location and price are great.

Yelp
I just checked out of here yesterday. I enjoyed my stay. We are judging the establishment and not the weirdos that check in and out of the here. Tried to deal with only the manager David who is cool laid back and so damn funny. And it's another worker there he is like native. Can't think of his name but he is a sweet guy also. I mostly give it 5 stars because of David and how they try to keep that place clean and succeed I would have stayed another month but the tourist season was starting and only allow tourist and not locals. I met some fabulous people. Only negative I can think of is a cute red beard/head boy(shift change ) saying I could not stay til my ride came from Fairbanks but maybe that was policy. I have no idea or maybe because I was not one of the many that chit chatted with him that look like they were high as a kite on some psyche meds or something illegal like the lady gaga reject bad body chick maybe he wanted some of that twat or a dude that seemed to have schizophrenia. The like cleaning ladies are a hit or miss only one That seemed positive all of the time was Lisa. The rest were a hit or miss. But other than that I enjoyed my stay. Would I stay there again ? Probably
