"If you are even a little bit of a cheese lover, this deli is for you! From every taste and smell, Benton Brothers is sure to offer it. Whether you are looking to pair with a fine wine or if you’re seeking the perfect mix for a dinner party – the cheesemongers will help you accomplish that goal. Be sure to check out their delicious accompaniments as well. I’m guessing you’ll be saying, “more cheese, please” quicker than you think." - Elle Gassner
"With the simple goal to help Vancouverites discover real cheese, Benton Brothers does just that with their ever-changing variety of handcrafted, artisanal, small production cheeses. Stinky, salty, earthy, pungent, mild, creamy, hard, soft, whatever your preference is, be sure to ask one of the brothers the backstory on your cheese of choice – cheese nerds at heart they will share with you the stories of each of the makers that produce the small run imported cheeses that stock their displays. They even know the names of the cows that are grass fed in alpine pastures – just kidding, but seriously they know a lot about cheese." - Arithmetic Creative

I have to admit, I feel extremely lucky to be able to shop weekly for cheese especially at Benton given that the prices are not cheap and that it’s located on Granville island. Their cheese is probably one of the best which is what keeps me coming back. With that being said, I am very put off by the fact that when you go to pay with a card you are prompted to tip. Now don’t get me wrong I am totally in for tipping as I’ve worked in the restaurant industry myself, however, what I don’t understand is tipping at a grocery store. Granville island is a public market for groceries and since when is it a thing to tip grocery stores? Someone please help me understand. Not only are you being prompted to tip but when I didn’t leave a tip for the clerk I felt an energy shift and as though they were upset I didn’t tip. I’m sorry but for how much the cheese costs here I hope the owners are paying their staff a reasonable wage where they don’t have to be dependent on or expecting a tip.

I love this place when I need suggestions for cheeses. Never have had a recommendation that has fallen flat.

Very busy right before Christmas but they were incredibly quick and helpful. Told them a brief idea of what I was looking to do for hosting and gave them total decision making power and every single cheese they picked was outstanding. The aged Gouda was great, but my favourite was Le Pizy, an
If you need cheese in Vancouver, this is the place to go.
If need be, I hear they can even make sure you have enough circles, triangles and rectangles of the cheeses you pick;)

First, I just want to stress out how much I love this store and their cheese. I always make it a point to come by here whenever I am over at Granville Market. I've never been disappointed as I am today when I opened my newly purchased cheese. Finding a curled up hair on top of it really made me lose my appetite. Will still go to this store next time since they have amazing selections and the attendants are usually nice. Hopefully, this kind of thing will not happen again.

Nice selection of cheeses but more importantly great service. Ask to sample anything. We usually buy a few cheeses and some meat and bread from other vendors and make ourselves a little charcuterie picnic outside near the water.
