"With the simple goal to help Vancouverites discover real cheese, Benton Brothers does just that with their ever-changing variety of handcrafted, artisanal, small production cheeses. Stinky, salty, earthy, pungent, mild, creamy, hard, soft, whatever your preference is, be sure to ask one of the brothers the backstory on your cheese of choice – cheese nerds at heart they will share with you the stories of each of the makers that produce the small run imported cheeses that stock their displays. They even know the names of the cows that are grass fed in alpine pastures – just kidding, but seriously they know a lot about cheese." - Arithmetic Creative

I've been buying cheese here for years but recently was met with snobby service, not once but twice. Two different employees have told me "it's the same cheese, same region" or "it's just brie". No, it's not. The textures and the taste are different, not all bries taste the same. Very off putting experiences recently.

Great selection of fine cheeses, very knowledgable and friendly upbeat staff! I bought some Gruyère and Chimay le Poteaupré, and they are some of the best cheeses I've ever had! Definitely go visit Benton Bros!

Very busy right before Christmas but they were incredibly quick and helpful. Told them a brief idea of what I was looking to do for hosting and gave them total decision making power and every single cheese they picked was outstanding. The aged Gouda was great, but my favourite was Le Pizy, an
If you need cheese in Vancouver, this is the place to go.
If need be, I hear they can even make sure you have enough circles, triangles and rectangles of the cheeses you pick;)

I've bought cheese from this store at least once a month for over a year but today we received terrible service from a man wearing glasses and a cap.
We requested recommendations for 3-4 cheese and he said he would cut a few pieces for us to try which we took to mean sample. There must've been a misunderstanding because without any explanations or confirmations for sizes, he returned with 4 cut and wrapped wedges of cheeses and curtly asked us if we wanted anything else. We were confused as every other time we have visited, the staff would describe the cheese and ask for confirmation before cutting anything. We explained the misunderstanding but he responded with an annoyed tone that these were the cheeses he would recommend and asked if we wanted them or not. He also started blaming us for the misunderstanding and while it's possible we misheard him, trying to rudely force a cheese purchase on to your customer seems like a strange way of conducting business. We were interested in maybe 1 out of the 4 so we decided not to purchase the cheese and he rolled his eyes, seemingly uninterested in providing any further service. Being treated this rudely, we will take our business elsewhere.

First, I just want to stress out how much I love this store and their cheese. I always make it a point to come by here whenever I am over at Granville Market. I've never been disappointed as I am today when I opened my newly purchased cheese. Finding a curled up hair on top of it really made me lose my appetite. Will still go to this store next time since they have amazing selections and the attendants are usually nice. Hopefully, this kind of thing will not happen again.
