The building was rustic and charming. The rooms were clean and spacious. You can tell it was built a while ago but well kept. It was less than 5 minutes from Beppu Station, and breakfast was free, although we never went to it. Highly recommend this location.

Old, unfashionable but excellent value for money. We had two excellent nights stay, with Onsen on sites and a great location.Thoroughly recommend the hotel.

8,900¥ on weekends which is super reasonable. Good natural hot spring which is free flow. The hotel facility including room is aged and not fancy at all yet the price is very reasonable and it is enough to sleep. If you need a fancy hotel this is not the hotel but if you are looking for a reasonable hotel with good public bath, this is a good choice.

Rooms are from the Shōwa era. Hotel is dusty, moldy and smells like a toilet. The old woman at the reception is very disrespectful, especially to foreign customers. It is not a beautiful feeling.

Free carpark just a minute’s walk from the hotel. Would be convenient if travelling by train as the station was just across the road. Rooms were big and clean. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Beppu!

Yelp
So very nice, since plans did not work out at Tanayu time opening we went back down on the complimentary shuttle to Beppu Station. We asked if it was possible to go to Hakata station on an earlier train with reserved seats. The nice employee kindly exchanged our tickets to one hour earlier. She informed us we would be separated. That's fine, we just need to leave. There is a shop there and restrooms too so everything worked out... until on moving train, it lurched as I was headed to the lua my feet flew up and I crashed to the ground. Doc saw it from her seat and came to ostrich me into an empty seat near me to stand up. A memorable birthday for sure... bunch of bruises.

Yelp
JR Beppu Station is conveniently located right in downtown Beppu. It is small but really functional. There is also a tourist office where you can get day pass bus ticket and all the information for visiting the Hot Spring area of Beppu. Make sure you talk to them because they have coupons that can be use for discount admission!! The main bus stop also shares the same building. Love the hot spring hand bath right in front of the station. FYI, the public washrooms are located outside the station. You might need that before going for the bus ride.

Yelp
Beppu is a 2 hour train ride from Fukuoka. It is a train ride mostly through countryside after passing Kokura Station. The only thing eventful about the ride is that you need to shift your seat to face the other direction at Kokura. Beppu Station is on the smaller side since the city is small and not as well traveled. Right outside the station, you will find a slightly unusual public statue called "Shiny Uncle" and a hand bath that pays tribute to the onsen culture that Beppu is most known for. While there are not as many shops at Beppu Station as other cities, there are a good amount of eateries and shops here. There is an excellent grocery store here with a huge selection of inexpensive bentos, desserts and drinks. I did also notice the grocery prices here are lower than what you would pay in Fukuoka. I like Beppu Station. It is small so it is easy to figure your way around. Easy in and out from this station. Lastly, I would recommend taking a snapshot of Beppu from the station before you leave as it really puts this city in perspective.

Yelp
Beppu Station has been increasingly developed in the past years. Less than a decade ago it was just a small country train station with a few shops and a small office. Now it is full of shops including a nice tourist office. Although Beppu is a small town, it is becoming more famous internationally due to its mass tourism of Jigoku Meguri (Hell Tour). There are more services that have indications in English. Some officers at the ticket counter can also speak English. in general the service in Japan is very good. Their hospitality is much higher than other places in the world. The location of Beppu Station is conveniently located. One side of the station connects to Oita Bus and the other side connects to Kamenoi Bus that goes to Kannawa and Myoban. Also, you can reach Oita and other cities from this train station that offers both local and fast trains. However bullet train (shinkansen) hasn't reached here yet. If you want to travel long distance with faster train, from this station you can take Sonic train which is an express train to Kita-Kyushu or Hakata in Fukuoka and change to use Shinkansen train. Only a few-minute walk from the station you can quickly reach the center of Beppu. There are many good restaurants around the area. Nearby there is also a fresh market where you can buy cheap food. A supermarket next to it is also very convenient. At this station you can ask for information from the tourist information center. There are many tourist packages including walking tour in the center where you can start from Beppu Station.

Yelp
My get-away trip in Japan to avoid the cities, the high-rises, and crowd. Simply loved this station and the quietness around it compared to Tokyo.
