This was our first visit to the island of Bequia and we were charmed from the moment we arrived. After a quick, fun and scenic taxi ride we were welcomed at the Bequia Beach Hotel with rum punches and smiles. The hotel is lovely, homey and warm, with a true island vibe all at once, Our initial accommodations had some issues (we ended up switching rooms) and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we were happy and comfortable. Every single person at the hotel was so nice and friendly- even the guests! We spent more time speaking to other hotel guests than on any other past vacation- and I think that's because the environment at the Bequia Beach Hotel is just so warm and friendly. The overall atmosphere at the hotel is happy and simply put- just special. The beach there is very pretty. The sand is soft, the water is clear and we swam in the sea every day. The beach has so many beautiful palm trees and it's also a beautiful beach for taking a morning walk ( which we also did daily ). Very peaceful. We also ventured down to the Sand Bar for drinks a couple times- what a cute little spot! We loved the island in general- especially the taxi rides ! We spent a day at Jack's and loved our lunch and the ability to explore town from there. Jack's had my favorite rum punch! We also took a day trip with Gusto to Mustique (LOVED) and the absolute highlight of our trip was a private day trip ( expertly arranged by the hotel ) to the Tobago Cays, Mayreau and Canouan. WOW WOW WOW. The only negative ( and I really don't want to be negative ) for us was the food. The hotel breakfast was pretty good, but the rest of the food just wasn't great. Our dinner at Blue Tropic was especially not good. We had dinners off property as well, and they were not great either. I knew going in that Bequia is not a "foodie" island, so my expectations were managed, but I still wish it was better. I found that sticking to a simply grilled local catch was the best way to go. I would also have liked the hotel to carry more top shelf liquors. Obviously this is just me being picky... but food and drinks are very important to me... So, would I recommend Bequia Beach Hotel? 100% yes! Would we stay there again? Most likely, yes! I am excited to see how things go with the hotel's lovely and smart new GM. I have a feeling that she will be a great addition to an already great place.
