Berber Lodge, Nr Marrakech, Morocco - Explore & Book

"If you were to design a film set for a traditional Moroccan hamlet, it might look a lot like Berber Lodge. Hidden away along a bumpy track, in the foothills of the snow-covered Atlas Mountains, the dwellings are impossibly picturesque: a cluster of low-rise adobe cubes, set amid acres of old olive trees and cacti. It's hard to believe the bustle of Marrakech is just half an hour away. This perfect Moroccan scene is the vision of Swiss architect Romain Michel-Ménière - known for some of the capital's most stunning interiors. Now he's designed his own lodge where he and his kind staff welcome couples, families and friends looking to relax. Built from traditional Berber materials - earth bricks, tadelakt plaster, palm-tree beams - the 10 standalone bedrooms and central main house are an exquisite mix of elegance and simplicity. From the vintage fabrics to the raffia lampshades, you'll want to take everything home. Day trip to the Marrakech medina, explore Oumnas's ancient kasbah, take a quad-bike around the nearby lake or meet donkeys at the local sanctuary... whatever you do it's always a joy to return to the shady pool and a delicious home-cooked dinner, surrounded by candles and a chorus of cicadas. We loved this magical place and can't wait to return. Highs Wonderful rural location within easy access of Marrakech Just 10 beautifully styled, spacious rooms; rustic-chic with a sense of place and attention to detail Relaxing in the huge gardens surrounded by hundred-year-old olive trees and birdsong with a gorgeous pool for cooling off The home-cooked food is delicious, often made with produce from their own gardens Authentic and soulful with heartfelt hospitality; owner Romain and his team ensure guests are treated like friends Lows Meals are set menus; let staff know if you have dietary requirements There's not much in the way of entertainment, and no TVs; guests come here to unwind and enjoy the countryside Don't expect 5-star hotel facilities: showers can be lukewarm, the pool is unheated, and WiFi is only available in reception The lodge is tucked away down a bumpy road and tricky to find; be sure to bring our detailed directions or book an airport transfer" - Nikki Tinto

Exceptional stay. Loved everything about this place from the quiet serenity, large swimming pool, amazing design, incredible food and very lovely (and funny) staff and owner Romain. As well as the lovely animals that live and visit the property. It was so nice to come here after busy Marrakesh. It’s a very special place that I will be back to stay at without a doubt.

The highlight of my time in Morocco. Wonderful staff, great pool and animals on the property. Internet is accessible throughout the grounds, but WiFi available in the bar/lobby area (nice touch to keep your phone off). Highly recommend!

An oasis out of the hustle & bustle of the city. Gorgeous surroundings and stunning rooms. With the resident cats, dogs, horse and donkey, this is where to detox from the stress of life. Would happily come back here.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights and this was one of the highlights of our trip. The lodge is such a nice place to relax, and the food was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed the light lunches and the dinners. There are plenty of places to spend time just enjoying the scenery and the lodge. You can make it as private as you want to, but also interact with some guess if that’s what you choose to do as well. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful and we always appreciate great service. The rooms were very nice and the bed was very comfortable. There are nice little touches throughout plus a nice little seating area outside. It was a little dark in the bathroom, but it’s such a minor thing. It didn’t really bother us too much. We were trying to avoid staying in the middle of Marrakesh because it gets a little crazy with so many tourists, this was a great escape. We actually went into the city for half a day, but decided to return early to come back to the tranquility of the hotel. I highly recommend This place if you’re looking for a getaway that’s quiet and beautiful.

Really loved our time here. The food was excellent - choose lunch and dinner and no more decisions need to be made. Romain put so much thought into every aspect of the space - from the decor to the plants it really shows. We had room 2 and the fireplace was perfect in March. Not a lot to do outside the lodge so you have to drive or book excursions. But if you want to relax, indulge a little and enjoy great food we highly recommend.
