Berg-en-Dal Campsite Review – Kruger National Park
Facilities:
The facilities at Berg-en-Dal are functional but showing their age. Bathrooms, while clean, are old and only cleaned once a day. Compared to other camps in the park that have undergone upgrades, it seems likely that renovations are due here soon. The washing-up area also feels dated, though it does have warm water available. The camp shop is well-stocked, catering to most needs. The swimming pool, while old and a bit grimy, is still a welcome relief on hot days.
Campsites:
Campsites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. There are plenty of trees providing good shade, but the lack of clear markings makes it challenging to determine designated spots. Walkways are poorly lit, so having your own lights is advisable. There are no staff to assist with setting up camp, so be ready to handle everything yourself. Each campsite has a built-in braai that is cleaned daily, which is a nice touch.
Wildlife:
While monkeys can be a nuisance in many camps, they were not much of an issue here—just be vigilant and store food properly. No other wildlife was spotted inside the camp during the visit, but being in the Kruger Park, wildlife is always close by.
Overall:
Berg-en-Dal offers decent facilities and a genuine camping experience. While the campsite could benefit from updates and clearer organization, it delivers a good balance for its price. If you come prepared for the challenges of camping, you’re likely to enjoy your stay.
