This restaurant is the perfect area to rest and eat lunch after a long morning of ski, it offers the best views of the Swiss alps and has amazing service. The food was pretty tasty and the staff were very friendly. It is located right after you finish the First Cliff walk (which I recommend) and close to the Gondola.

I had an incredible experience at Bergrestaurant First: Nestled at 2,200 meters above sea level, this restaurant offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss Alps, making it the perfect spot to take a break after exploring the stunning surroundings. The food was delicious, with hearty Swiss dishes that were perfect for the alpine atmosphere. The outdoor seating was cozy with sheepskin-covered chairs, adding to the charm. The staff were friendly and efficient despite the busy crowd. Highly recommend this spot if you’re visiting Grindelwald or heading to the First Cliff Walk. A must-visit for nature lovers and food enthusiasts

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE PLACE. I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE -10 STARS IF I CAN. The waiter literally said placing bags and gloves on the table is disgusting. If this is not allowed, then clearly state the rules politely? We are paying customers and we deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.

I had the most unpleasant experience with an incredibly rude, disrespectful, and racist waiter in Switzerland. I’ve lived here for years, but I’ve never encountered such behavior from restaurant staff. He was going around to each table, telling customers to clean up before leaving. When people responded that they would, he sarcastically snapped back, saying, “Yeah, you always say that and then leave everything,” in a very impolite manner. He came around again, telling customers to remove their gloves and bags from the table because it was “disgusting,” using a harsh and disrespectful tone. What made it worse was that he was only directing these comments toward Asian customers. I hope management takes action against such unprofessional and discriminatory behavior. It’s disappointing to see such attitudes ruin an otherwise great spot with a beautiful view and a relaxing atmosphere. Good service is essential, and experiences like this leave a lasting negative impression. And yes, he is the same guy everyone is mentioning in their reviews.

It has taken me quite a bit of time to finally get to this, but am happy to finally be able to write this review! Arjan, Tom, and the team and Berggasthaus First were an absolute delight to work with, in planning and hosting our July 2024 wedding. They were very communicative throughout the entire process, helping us to plan a menu with very complicated dietary restrictions; organise the ceremony, apero, and lunch logistics; and setting up everything for us prior to the day. They were very accommodating with our request of an outdoor ceremony, which they were able to make happen on the field just below the terrace. And of course, the incredible surroundings of the area provided the most dramatic backdrop for this ceremony. Given that we were not unable to set up anything before the day of the wedding (as the restaurant is in constant use during the week), Arjan and the team were able to take this job completely out of our hands, including receiving the flower delivery themselves and doing the full set up of all the table arrangements, decorations, ceremony, and apero, all on the morning of our wedding. A meeting was held at their restaurant prior to the day, to run through all the details, and to create an example table for them, in order to show how we wanted everything to look when they set it up themselves, and their attention to detail fully exceeded our expectations. On top of the set up, they were very hands on throughout the day, making sure that everything was in order, and that all guests with dietary restrictions/allergies were being served the correct meal. Because of their efforts, we were able to fully enjoy the day, without too much worry about logistics. For that, we have everyone at the Berggasthaus First to thank for making our day truly memorable. We look forward to our next visit to Grindelwald, and this beautiful region, which we are so privileged to say is now forever attached to this wonderful memory of the best day of our lives. Thank you and Merci vielmals!

I can tell you they have one of the best location in Switzerland. Service was fast. And they were very friendly. We only visited the restaurant after taking the cable car. It was cold weather outside so hot coffee and chocolate was best option. Loved it.

Fun place to stay as you get to see the site after the day-trippers have left. Our room didn’t come with “half-board,” so dinner was available for a fixed price (21 euros/person), but the self-serve kitchen closed SUPER early (4:30pm), so we ate ramen and muffins for dinner. The views are amazing, We were in a bunk room which was comfortable. Each bunk came with a duvet and pillow and sheet for the mattress. The shared bathrooms and showers were fine … a section to hang your clothes / towel, and a curtain for the shower itself. Water pressure good, but have to keep pressing the button every 30 minutes to keep the water going. Breakfast included (sliced meats, cheeses, bread, croissants, cereal, yogurt, juice, good coffee, milk, tea, basic fruits). ||We stored our luggage/backpacks in lockers within the hostel area while we were on the mountain doing activities. Lockers were 2 euros each, and returned the coin after use. ||Check-in was hard to find … it’s at the bar, under a sign labeled “reception” (which sounds obvious, but was tough to spot). The folks working there are helpful and kind. ||We had intended to get into the queue early for the First Flyer and Glider, but missed our chance and had to wait with everyone else. If you stay here … do everything you can to get down there before the lines ill up. If the sign says it’s “90 minutes from this point,” they’re not lying. Those queues look short, and move as fast as they can, but it’s a slow, slow process. If you stay here, get up early and get in that queue so you don’t have to spend 2-3 hours waiting for your ride.

Many compliments to Rudolph who assisted us during our stay at Berggasthaus First. I was feeling unwell (bad idea to still go up the mountain), but Rudolph was nothing but kind. He checked on us multiple times during dinner time, offered many solutions for my sore throat and even specifically spoke to the kitchen so I could have soup for dinner even though it was not on the menu for dinner service. He also brought us a portable heater when we informed him that the room was rather chilly. Thank you so much for making our stay comfortable, we did not have a chance to bid you goodbye but please keep up the good work! 🍀 I hope to visit Grindalwald again in better health. :)
