In spring 2015, I stopped off in Berlin for a few days during my month-long trip to Scandinavia. It was during this trip that I really started getting into Yelping, but being relatively new to Yelp, I was still figuring things out and unfortunately I missed out on so many review opportunities, such as statues, metro stations, public squares, and even Brandenburg Gate! Geez! (For the record, I did check in to places in Berlin, but never got my Germany badge -- grrr!) I also didn't review the Berlin Wall, or what's left of it. Well, since today is the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, I thought it would be appropriate to "review" it. (Plus I needed something cool to review for my 500th Yelp review.)
The Berlin Wall, built in 1961, came down on November 9, 1989, however I was unaware of this historic event as I was very young. I admit, I still get confused over all the details about the facts of the Berlin Wall and about this period in history, and it's something I would like to learn more about. While I was in Berlin, I saw remnants of the wall, as well as a piece in the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas.
I'm not quite sure how many stars to give the Berlin Wall. I suppose it warrants five stars for doing what it was supposed to do -- separate West Berlin from East Germany. But, that wasn't really a good thing, and it warrants one star for separating families and being an all around fucked up part of history. So I guess I will give it three stars, but that doesn't mean that the Berlin Wall was A-OK.
