GREAT brunch items. We were floored by the quality and presentation of the food. We ordered a potato knish, latke brisket, Iceland plate, the daily egg bake and a strong coffee. Everything was fresh and DELICIOUS. Beautiful restaurant, kid-friendly and good vibes. We will 100% be coming back to try more.

Google
What a fun, healthy and bright spot to have a meal downtown Fargo. Lots of varied items on their menu. Many bagel plates to choose from and I chose the vegetarian bagel plate. I was not disappointed. The beet mash was so delicious the best thing on the plate. Lots of fresh greens and they do put on lots of dressing so next time I might get dressing on side or no dressing. I also had a vegetable knish and a cola in a glass bottle. The dining room is bright and eclectic. I sat at lunch counter that also has a coffee machine. It was very busy but not loud. Great spot for deli foods can't wait to return.

Google
Had a recommendation to go here and glad I took it. I ordered carryout, the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich, the Matzo Ball Soup and the Iceland. All were fantastic. I ate the chicken sandwich right away. Lots of yummy crunchy chicken on that soft challah bun. Such great flavors. The potato salad was great. Those pickles outstanding. Had the soup later. That was delicious too, and the next day I had the Iceland. Just a delicious combination of flavors. I got the seeded bagel. Lots of accoutrements with the lox. Yummy. Literally, a happy camper.

Google
The knish was delicious, the coffee was strong and the bagels were very New York like. Overall a great breakfast place.

Google
Amazing place for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Get a mideast bagel plate, the knish of a day, egg of the day, egg bake of the day, a chicken matzo ball soup with chicken skin gribene, a sandwich, some cookies, some rugelachs, they got you. A james beard semifinalist, deserving of the win if you ask me, and always absolutely amazing. Bernbaums is always a great place to grab a cup of coffee, breakfast or lunch, something sweet, something savory. Just a great place and my first stop everytime I get into town. Watch for special dinners they have regularly ad well. (Knish pictured with zhug, microgreens, and pickled onions) Enjoy something with their zhug, labneh, pickles, and marinated olives.

Google
Loved it! We visited after a quick Google search for good restaurants in the area for a quick lunch as we passed through town. Looks like they have great daily specials. We ordered three things: Matzo ball soup, potato knish, and daily greens salad. Everything was great! Our favorite was the knish, served with a yummy sauce and pickled onions. So good! Very welcoming and accepting place. Great place for a light meal!

Google
I think I've been here about four times across a couple of their locations and it's always been a great experience. I have no problem giving the food here a 5 and the overall place a 5. If any local restaurant actually deserves it, and people aren't just being default, it's BernBaums. The options are very unique and always outstanding tasting. I like how they have a little classic like diner style bar off to the side, and their overall antique style atmosphere. This is a photo I took from there myself in 2018, it's not the 🥓 🥚 and 🧀 I got this time.

Google
Truly exceptional food! The atmosphere is basically a café or coffee shop but the food is incredible and makes up for sparse ambience. Be sure to try a knish, Myron‘s chicken matzo ball soup and the Nordic lamb meatloaf. All are exceptional. I must admit the matzo-breaded chicken schnitzel was a little dry. It was two slices that were breaded. If it had been one thicker slice, I think it would’ve been much juicier and more tender.

Yelp
This place is a hit or miss, they are often out of stock on some items and the staff can sometimes not give a flying F that you are there. That's a huge thing for me, seeing how staff treat their customers. Without your customers you are out of biz so those waiting to order or on food/drink, smile and be kind to them.

Julia S.

Yelp
Shared an Icelandic Bagel Plate that had house-cured gravlax, lox, pickled fennel, cucumber, onion, capers + microgreens, and seeded bagel and a side of horseradish caraway potato salad. At this point of the trip, it may have been the best bites of our time in Fargo. Ambience: It was buzzing with customers, either extremely busy and a long line or constant flow of customers coming to snag a table or something to go. Hospitality: The staff never seemed to stand still, taking orders or busting tables to clear tablets for customers to enjoy Bernbaum's. Even though staff were busy keeping the flow, they maintained the Midwestern niceness.

Yelp
Cool, modern deli with a fun group of people running the spot. We were some of the earliest folks to get there (right as they opened) and about 5 minutes later a parade of regulars came in. You can tell this place has regular clientele. A few gave us recommendations. Great people working and dining. The matzo ball soup is a definite must have. Honestly, the yummiest matzo I've had. That's not exaggeration either. The egg salad was another winner. I love savory things so the egg salad + matzo was a great pairing. If you have an ambitious tummy add the latkes as well. Yummy and totally homemade.

Trinh P.

Yelp
Service was mediocre with a 35 minute wait for 2 lox bagels that had a higher than average price tag. Just fyi - they charge fees for using a credit card and packaging for carry out orders. On the bright side the lox bagel was pretty decked out.

Corey H.

Yelp
What's all the fuss about this Fargo restaurant? Plenty. We ordered inside, and sat outside during the Fargo Marathon and had the lovely June Fargo sun on our faces while we waited (a short while) for our food. We got a cool tiger figurine as our indication of where our food should be delivered. Our friendly server delivered our turkey sandwiches and salad promptly. I convinced my mom to give me a bite of her sandwich: warm and heavenly flavor. My salad was a delight too. Stop in soon!

Yelp
Wonderful little spot in downtown Fargo. Local drinks, great comfort food, especially if you need a latke or knish. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and decent portions. The white tiled walls are decorated with old time tin stoves and such. Used to be a hotel coffee shop, Peggy Lee (had a hit with"Fever") sang here back before WWII. Order at the counter, they bring the food to you.

Stacey V.

Yelp
So satisfied I could plotz! Finally made it to BernBaum's, and it was even tastier than I imagined. The blintzes were phenomenal. Just sweet enough. And the labneh was so creamy and tart! There was more complexity to this labneh than any other I've tried. I am completely obsessed with the mid-century decor, and the service was just so prompt and pleasant. BernBaum's provides a top-notch nosh that will please even the most discerning bubbe! Zie gezundt!

Yelp
Now, I know this is a deli, but it also has the vibe of a small town diner. the food is excellent here. The coffee also surprisingly good - I got the lavender latte with oat milk. I got the lox and eggs (they came with pickled red onions- so good). This is a pretty popular place so be prepared to be in line to order for about 10-15 minutes. The table markers are little animals which are so so cute, that actually may have been my favorite quirks about this place.

Anna S.

Yelp
Cutest little counter service cafe in downtown Fargo! They provide you a cute little animal as a table marker for food delivery. I ordered the lox & eggs. I've been once before & had the Turkey Pastrami hot sandwich! It's not many places you can find pastrami! They do have some pastries and other products you can purchase as well.

Julie F.

Yelp
Also going with the classics but always finding a new favorite on the menu best place in Fargo for breakfast/ lunch and good experience. Friendly staff .

Denise G.

Yelp
Not wonderful service, I waited at a the coffee bar while the person making coffee drinks made 3-4 drinks then walked away without saying a word. Tables wiped but left soaking wet. Orange tab for decaf coffee said regular. Crowded & loud. Long wait for food. Don't really care about the food after this...?

Jennifer S.

Yelp
The best food in town. There is something for everyone- vegan or meat lovers, gluten free, dairy free, no matter what the food is, you'll be happy.

Jeff D.

Yelp
Amazing food. Will be back You order at the counter. Fresh pastries, everything tasted amazing.

Kawai5001963 ..

Yelp
Wow wow wow. Fantastic food! The matzo ball soup is the best I've ever had! I loved the atmosphere of the place, really cozy, service was little slow but they got to us eventually..... the Ladke with Brisket was marvelous, it had horseradish pickled carrots with it. YUM!!!

Josh S.

Yelp
Great little café with options for everyone in our group. We have light eaters, big eaters, lox lovers, and vegetarian's. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast, but I was the only one who snapped a picture. I really enjoyed the Iceland Bagel Plate. The coffee is great too and if you eat in-house, it's a bottomless cup.

Brock B.

Yelp
Bernbaum's is a great breakfast & lunch option in Downtown Fargo. The food is prepared fresh by a talented staff, & the menu options have most whatever you would like for food with a twist, the Bernbaum's twist. I highly recommended trying it. You will want to go back again! Another must visit dine in in Fargo. A+

Yelp
One of the few places that has a Jewish feel in (for lack of a better word) in Fargo. Disappointing to see staff with Watermelon pins. Free speech is important but so are appropriate venues. This -- pinned onto the apron of at least one of the workers (but it's hard to imagine it's a sanctioned part of the uniform) -- felt intentionally antognizing. Wonder if the owners are okay with alientating some of their customers this way. They announce on the door that it is a "safe space" but is it safe all around? Certainly after 10/7 and the rise in anti-semitism in the world, it is worth saying that these kinds of expressions make some people feel unsafe. DIdn't see any Israeli flags. The food is pretty good. The bagels are solid and so is the lox.

Madeline R.

Yelp
One of my favorite establishments. I would absolutely recommend this eatery to anyone that is visiting town.

Alex L.

Yelp
Yes, they are great. Where else you can find Pavlova in North Dakota? I like their latke too.

Laura S.

Yelp
This cute and cozy spot is perfect for breakfast or lunch. Lots of egg dishes, bagel plates, sandwiches, soups/salads to choose from - great variety! We went with the egg bagel sandwich and the vegan lox plate shown. The Smokey carrots used instead of lox were divine!! Will definitely be back the next time I'm in town and might try some of the desserts as they looked delicious too. Don't miss out on this place!

Yelp
What a cute little deli/Cafe located in Downtown Fargo. You can pick up to go or order there and eat. They have indoor & outdoor seating available. First off I think they need more menus available to see & decide. If you are in the back of the line the menu isn't visablw until close. With limited time to review the menu I picked egg salad and an Americano. The coffee menu is on a completely different wall then the food menu. During taking our order they let us know it be about a 30 minute wait which seemed perfectly fine. My boyfriend orders their chicken salad Sandwhich & a diet Coke. Our friend ordered right after us & sat with us. They give you a little action figure to take and set on your table to come find you. My Americano came out quick and was really nice. It even came is a fun cup. We were fine waiting until about 40 minutes later when people who were behind us in line started receiving their ordered first. At the 56 minute mark our friend & I received our food. They apologized for the delay & admitted that my boyfriend's chicken Sandwhich was missed & they were making it. They asked if they could bring anything in there mean time & my boyfriend delclined. After some convincing he got a macaroon. It was really yummy. It was nice offered him something to tide him over. I waiting for my boyfriend's meal as we split our sandwhiches to share. My egg salad was solid. It was a little bland, bit look d beautiful. How chicken salad was really good! Overal the staff was nice, the asestic was pleasing, and they did a good job. I think they could just number the tables as they were wandering around having a hard time finding the figurines on the tables. I felt bad for some of the staff wandering trying to figure it out. It definitely could be simplified. I will for sure return though! Next time I will likely look at the menu in advance. Also it was quiet warm inside, so if it's a warmer day dress light.

Yelp
first time here and had the bernbaum sandwich - the SAUERKRAUT was amazing. the whole sandwich was delishious. a lot of places can do meat. to do it all is wonderful.

Shu E.

Yelp
Yummmmm. This place was highly recommended by someone from the area and I'm glad that it was! I even brought back some goodies from ND all the way back to OK for my boyfriend to try. Breakfast was eggs, lox, latkes, and a little chocolate babka. Latkes were nice and crispy on the outside, and I loved the heaping load of capers that came alongside the breakfast. Also - coffee here is amazing. Tried a cafe canadien for the first time here and I have to restrain myself from adding heaps of cinnamon and maple syrup into my coffee every day now. A must try if you're ever in the area!

Brad R.

Yelp
Love the bagel and lox. Downtown and busy, but got right in and served quickly. Reminds me of my college days. Will come back again.

Steven E.

Yelp
Food and atmosphere is great. There was a line out the door. Demand for this style of restaurant is clearly high in Fargo. Five stars for people watching. Eavesdropping is possible without trying. Despite the success of this establishment, unless they get a good quick handle on throughput they could fizzle. Especially problematic are the kids animal toy icons. These are used for the servers to identify the correct table for the order. It does not work. I watch more than one server circling the restaurant looking for a small toy on an already crowded table. They are effectively camouflaged. Replacing the icon with numbers on tall stands would speed up most everything. Finally there were a about three or four house fly's bugging us throughout out our meal. Never good and easily mitigated. I wish this restaurant the best. However until they can solve the icons and flys they receive an average rating. Once these two matters are solved, for their class, they are a solid 5 stars.

Yelp
So good.... Everything.... The coffee! Oh and the food is still good the next day after reheating ... very sweet people working there! Highly recommended.... Plus I got this cute little Dino as a gift! If you want to know what kind of Dino it is ... you have to ask my daughter ... she's the Dino expert not me ... there are other animals too if Dino is not your thing! You have to check it out ... the menu is simple .... There not a thousand things you have to read and decide ... especially when you are starving!!!

Scott M.

Yelp
Wow, what a great Yelp recommendation. Lunch with my wife and kids, two of whom are vegan. Several options for them. Wife can't stop talking about the egg bake. Non-vegan kid loved the schnitzel (although the potato salad - meh). My sweet porridge was terrific. But the lattes .... Wow. Firmest milk foam ever. Really terrific effort by the barista. We will be back. Highly recommended.

Willie D.

Yelp
The bagel & lox were as good as what I've had in New York. I would highly recommend you try the bagels, lox & cream cheese.

John-Paul L.

Yelp
Ever almost get teary because the food you ordered is that amazing? I did at Bermbaum's today. It was a life changing experience. And the MCM of the place was 100% my vibe. I will eat there every time I pass through Fargo.

Parker G.

Yelp
Bustle of Sunday brunch was on point. Very relaxed and welcoming. Tasty food and love the homemade pastry options.

Jenn K.

Yelp
Best egg salad sandwich my husband and I have every had. Get it with the everything Bagel. Love the casual vibe and the service has been good every time.

Erandi B.

Yelp
Went to Fargo for the weekend and was craving bagels, found this perfect spot! We ordered ahead online and picked it up because we have a dog and I don't think it's dog friendly. The inside looked chic and cute, kind of retro vibes. Had the cold Lox bagel (seeded) - 10/10. Ordered it as is, didn't change anything on it. My fiancé had the Turkey pastrami sandwich (warm) and he said it was a 10/10. Now coffee - not a huge coffee drinker but I had the lavender latte with honey and almond milk. Best lavender latte I've had, ever. Fiancé had a chai latte and had no complaints We will definitely be going there again and recommend if you are wanting sandwiches or bagels.

Lauren L.

Yelp
Wow. The vegan egg scramble was the best vegan breakfast I've ever had. I might need to make another trip out to Fargo strictly to come to Bernbaum's. So good!

Anthony M.

Yelp
My sister and I tried out this place while we were visiting Fargo on Easter Sunday. Very much appreciated this place being open as almost everything else in town was listed as open but were actually closed. The cafe was a counter serve restaurant with a lot of different options. The service here was decent, not the friendliest but got the job done. The café was really appealing to the eye and offer lots of seating. As for food, I ordered a quiche like item for which I cannot remember the name and a porridge. The prices were pretty great and I got both of my items for a total of $16. The quiche like item was fantastic and very enjoyable. Would certainly order that again. The porridge was horrible and I may never eat porridge again. My sister got a banana cream pie which was fantastic and the best I've ever had of this. So overall the food was pretty good and we were happy with our experience. Would definitely give this a place to try if you're in town!

Brittany S.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've had thus far in 2020. It's been a few days and I'm still thinking about the smoked carrots, savory porridge and whipped curried tofu. My lands, you're sitting on a gem right here, Fargo. This should be noted as one of your top featured attractions!! Berbaum's has an interesting mix of Jewish deli and Scandinavian cuisine. They pair the two in a creative and innovative way- for example, we had the vegan bagel lox topped with smoked carrots, whipped tofu (curry/turmeric?), sunflower sprouts, pickled onions, za'tar and a seeded bagel. I was so sad when I took my last bite- the flavors in this sandwich are mind blowing. We also ordered the lingonberry blintzes and savory porridge. I've had savory porridge a few places and I'm surprised more restaurants haven't jumped on this train. Their version featured a combination of wild rice, blow corn and barley, I believe. I kept thinking, I wish they sold this combination of grains and that I had purchased some! It was Lahore's with smoked carrots, beets, creme fraiche herb and butter. Last but certainly not least, the young lady working the front counter could not have been more sweet, helpful and enthusiastic. I wish I would have got her name- bravo! She made the experience- even if it was brief and carryout. Now wishing our route home passed through Fargo so we could order this meal all over again.

Doris H.

Yelp
Excellent in every way. I always stop for lunch with friends in town or on my own when possible. Even when crowded for lunch the service is quick. In a hurry? Order ahead, eat in a local park! (I'be even done it in the snow.)

Nicole S.

Yelp
Meh. $30 for a brisket sandwich that was 3/4 bread, chocolate pecan pie that was mostly chocolate chips, and a knish that was really good. But not good enough to make up for the lackluster sandwich and pecan-less pie.

Jim A.

Yelp
Truly exceptional food! The atmosphere is basically a café or coffee shop but the food is incredible and makes up for sparse ambience. Be sure to try a knish, Myron's chicken matzoh ball soup and the Nordic lamb meatloaf. All were exceptional. I must admit the matzoh breaded chicken schnitzel was a little dry. It was two slices that were breaded. If it had been one thicker slice, I think it would've been much juicier and more tender.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Delicious bacon, egg, and bagel sandwich. Really nice staff as well! Cool downtown vibe for brunch.

James R.

Yelp
This may be about as close to a NYC deli as you will find in Fargo. Bernbaum's features bagels and offers deli sandwiches. I had and recommend the brisket which is made almost like a pastrami sandwich. There was a line and the food takes a while to arrive, but it was good. They do not offered brewed tea only bottled drinks but they did have some unsweetened which was sweet.

Margaret R.

Yelp
I loved the matzo ball soup but found the cold chicken salad rather lacking in flavor. The service was prompt and courteous. The ambiance was just like a quiet New York delicatessen and I enjoyed it very much! My friend said his pastrami was also a bit bland but we both agreed that the hummus and bagels were incredible! I'd recommend it!

John M.

Yelp
The local (and visitor) raving about Bernbaum's has been growing over the past couple years but after they expanded to their new location on Broadway, I don't think I go a day any more without hearing someone mention Bernbaum's or see someone post on social media. And this is not hype; it is legit food cred for them. I find myself going back to the egg, cheese, bacon & other stuff bagel sandwich because it is so good. I could eat this every day. Eventually I'll continue to do a better job of working my way through the menu. I'll still have yet to try the Matzo ball soup, which looks great and is my son's go-to item. People gush over the Black & Whites (cookies). I see just last week they added a dinner menu so now I have even more food items to check off of my list. I also love the new location with all the seating, the natural light and the Stumbeano's coffee station.

Uyen T.

Yelp
Friendly staff, always busy when I come in the morning, nice breakfast place. Not all food was good but that's just up to tastes, I find it enjoyable. I was ordering here three days in a row (trying out their lox) by the third day I got tired of the taste. Don't have a variety of options but it's a cute breakfast joint. Recommend

Darien J.

Yelp
Stopped here for Lunch on a busy market Saturday, with 3 friends. They all got some version of a Rueben and I got a picnic plate (a charcuterie of sorts... cheeses, meats, bread and crackers, olives, fruit and mustard). Food was excellent, decor was vintage finds and very comfortable. The place smells like a great Jewish deli. Smoked fish, rye, sweet treats. Yum!. Service was a bit slow and the cashier had had trouble ringing in our order, so we had to follow up after people who came in long after us had their food. One Rueben came out, solo and the rest were 5 minutes later. Despite the wait and confusion, the food was delicious and we would go back again, happily.

Jeremiah L.

Yelp
Wonderful Wonderful place! Closest thing to a "Jewish" deli that I used to go to in NYC.

N H.

Yelp
My favorite place in Fargo. I love trying the amazing flavor and texture combos. Check out changing menu items daily egg bake!, daily greens salad, daily knish (savory puff pastry with roasted veggies), veg soup, and new pastry items. Try the shakshuka (eggs poached in tomato broth) My fav regulars are chicken matzo soup, coffee and black and white cookie. Bagels plain or seeded (yum!) with variety of shmear to choose from (horseradish dill or maple bacon thyme).

Tim G.

Yelp
Came here on an overcast morning, just looking for a quick breakfast. I decided to walk in and check this place out. I was helped quickly and decided on the Lox/Egg. Everything was flavorful and just as I'd hoped. Next time I'm in Fargo, I'll make sure to come by again.

Brittney B.

Yelp
The food is great, the service is fast, and the coffee is creamy. They have free WiFi, a fun atmosphere, and the staff is super friendly. We got the egg salad, lox, and plain bagel with cream cheese. I would definitely stop again if we're ever in Fargo, ND again!

Amber T.

Yelp
Always a good breakfast here. The bagel sandwiches are the best in town! The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is always friendly.
