The restaurant is definitely overhyped and overpriced. While the steak and oysters were quite good, I wouldn’t recommend the lobster pasta or the salads. The lobster pasta, in particular, was disappointing—way too salty for my liking, and they added tomatoes to the dish, which gave it a soggy, weird texture and taste, especially since the pasta was already soft and not al dente. For the price, I also expected more than just four small pieces of lobster. That said, the service was impeccable. Our server, Mitch, was fantastic—he knew the menu very well and was great to chat with, which made the dining experience more enjoyable. Still, the food needs to live up to the high prices and reputation.

One of my favorite restaurants, with amazing food and a beautifully designed interior. The staff are lovely, and it’s definitely a place you need to try, especially if you’re feeling bored with Sydney and looking for somewhere new to visit. I recommend making a booking as the restaurant tends to get quite busy. The atmosphere adds to the experience, making it perfect for both casual outings and special occasions.

Overall rating: 4.75 stars, rounded up to 5. One of the best places in Sydney for a meal. Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. The only reason for not considering it a full 5-star is that it is quite far from the city but the prices are as high as what they would have been if this place was in the city. That being said, Bert’s is still definitely worth a visit even if it takes a while to trek up to Newport.

An upscale modern Australian restaurant in Newport, that I have visited multiple times. The restaurant has a combination of an open kitchen, comfortable seats near the bar area, views of the waters, an inviting entrance area and plenty of tables. The interior is perfectly decorated for any occasion. Staff are professional and friendly and the service is on point. The food has also been consistently cooked well. You get what you pay for. Overall, it's great and I recommend a visit for a special occasion. 👍😋

We had the most incredible dinner celebrating our anniversary. The food here is delicious, great atmosphere and a beautiful vibe. We had the pasta vongale and the steak along with Brussel spouts, fries and potatoes. We then finished with the chocolate tart and affogato!

Food is tasty but dessert is a MUST DO! So delicious and very stunning venue and atmosphere. We highly recommend the Bistecca steak, fried bread and banana soufflé. Our server Harriet was absolutely incredible and so attentive! Hopefully we will be back soon.

Perfect way to spend an afternoon! Food was divine, each dish heroing its key ingredient so well. Refined venue yet super relaxed ambience, kick-ons to the outside alfresco area a must after your meal!

Went here for a xmas lunch with the family, the ambience was spectacular with great views by the water, it made you feel very relaxed. The service, phenomenal, our waiter was very attentitive and friendly. Food wise, we ordered a wide selection to really get a variety of flavours, but i was definitely feeling seafood (see food and eat it haha) that day and I honestly cant fault it. Wish the spanner crab pasta was on the menu, ive heard great things, but alas it was not on the menu (could be due to seasonality), so we opted for the prawn pasta instead. Definitely order the honey peppers as an accompanyment with the main, it pairs so well. Great drinks menu, plenty to choose from and recommendations are provided. Prices are what you'd expect it to be for an establishment like this and location (some may challenge that). We had a great time/experience and a stunning lunch with a view to start the holiday period.

Yelp
My husband, brother and I came here for a Saturday lunch on the last day of my husband's trip to Sydney. I'd long since heard of Bert's and have been a fan of Merivale, so I was excited to finally try this restaurant. Bert's has parking on the street nearby but there's no train station and not much public transport around here, so driving is advisable. The restaurant has a really beautiful ambiance that would make for a nice girls' lunch or upscale meal. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to expectations though. For appetizers, we shared the oysters, smoked fish pate, sourdough and heirloom tomatoes. Nothing was terrible, but the food was bland and lacked any discernible flavor. For mains, I got the rock cod, while my husband had the ricotta agnolotti, and my brother had the bucatini. Their pastas were fine but nothing special. My rock cod was especially boring. It tasted like a plain white fish without condiments, even though it had them. I would not come back to eat here based on this experience, especially given the prices here.

Yelp
Can't give less than 1! Service was ordinary, food is ridiculously overpriced and mainly imported looking at the boxes next to the bins in the car park. Another Merivale joke that is overpriced and staff more than likely underpaid. Don't waste your hard earned
