Besh-Ba-Gowah Museum

Archeological site with a giftshop & small museum of artifacts found on site. Lovely site to visit. Have gone multiple times during the day. Thier December evening event with the scented luminaries is almost magical. They host a free event once a year with vendors, Indian hoop dancing, singing & storytelling. Only request is to bring non perishable food items. Overall, it's a wonderful evening for a good cause.

Visiting was an amazing experience. The intro video was very useful for understanding the history of this place and the museum was terrific. But seeing the ancient ruins was a highlight of our visit to Arizona.

This is a hidden gem on the Historic registry. Please visit and support. Not only beautiful but spiritual and by far one of my favorite places. Great gift shop as well and very reasonably priced. I can’t wait to go back!

This was an hour drive for us and it was worth it. Very clean facilities, had a few interactive things for the kids, and it was wonderful to study ancient civilizations. A wonderful time! Cost $5 but it was worth it!

I've been through Globe many times, but just learned about these ancient Salado ruins. They have lots of artifacts in a small museum and you can walk through the ruins. Fortunate it was declared a historic site before developers could bulldoze all of it. Part of the original site has already been covered by a park.

This historic place, circa 1200, is probably the best location to see "homes" still in reasonable original condition.

1st road trip with grandson going to Globe,AZ. Approximately 80 miles from Phoenix and it took about 1 hour, 15 minutes. There is a $5 admission for adults, kids 12& under are free. There is a room where they have a 12 minute video describing the people along with the history of the area. Very interesting and I enjoyed it but my grandson wanted to be an explorer but he got through it. There are a lot of tools and utensils that were on display and pottery. It's a nice outing for kids and they have fun exploring the sites outdoors. As a descendant of the Cherokee tribe from the East Coast, learning about the tribes here is very informative. Very good history lesson and the gift shop has treats from the area, jewelry made from local artists, and too many other things to add. Happy learning!

Beautifully done depiction and restoration! And, the botanical garden replicating native varieties of food and plants grown was also lovely.

So you pay $5 per person to go in and sit through a mildly interesting video at which point you realize the "free" coffe and tghe air conditioning are really the hihglight. Then you walk through the gift shop, which was actually interesting to me, and into sn 8th grade social science project which is the museum portion of this experience. There are some interesting artifacts, but having taught 8th grade and assigned them to make a museum exhibit about America's westward epxansion, I can verify that the quality of the exhibits is that of an 8th grade project. And it'sd a small room. It could take you 10 whole minutes to ready everything in every exhibit. I am glad there is a seperate page to review the actualy ruins, which are included in your $5 fee, because they are awesome! So take my advice and watch the little video for the mildly interesting info, the "free" coffee and good access to air & bathroom and then go have fun in the ruins. Unless, of course, you're an 8th grader looking for ideas for you own westward expansion museum project,

Very small museum, nothing too special, but you do pick up a few tidbits of history about the ruins. It's interesting to see the model recreation of what the ruins looked like when they were inhabited, compared to the bare-bones structures they are now. The video you watch in the other room is interesting, and the staff here are very friendly.

I am afraid that I must agree with Michelle W. The coffee and video were the highlights of my time there. Also, the gift shop was much more interesting than the actual exhibit. The exhibit portion is very small and not well put together. The ruins area is also very small and can be walked through within 5 minutes. If you are in Globe with nothing to do, supporting this organization/city may not be a bad idea. After all, it's something to do. However, it is certainly not worth it to take a trip to Globe to see this museum!

OK the "Museum" looks like a bad 4-H project. There is a film the hostess was very insistent that we watch. I was curious if she worked on commission or was really sure we would find it even minimally interesting (she was wrong). You don't get time like that in your life back. The ruins themselves are interesting and well worth it but if you can somehow escape the "hospitality" of being held captive for the movie it's an interesting place to spend 45 minutes or so.
