Blue cod (flaky texture, mild sweet favour) served with hand cut chips, coleslaw and traditional tartare sauce definitely hit a high notch for us. It was delicious and worth every penny spent. Good to chill and eat 😊

Got the pan fried fish of the day (blue cod) it was so good! Chips are also hand cut and fried in beef lard! No canola oil or seed oils here. Lightest batter ever. Yum

Excellent food cooked the old-fashioned way, homemade chips and a coleslaw with a vinegar type dressing. Also, complimentary bread and butter! And vinegar on every table! Good drinks selection too

Probably the worst food I’ve eaten since coming to New Zealand. I ordered the Blue Cod with a serving of chips each for my wife and I. She wouldn’t touch it! Fish was so greasy you couldn’t taste any fish and the chips looked like they were refried again after another customer had left them! The price was $38 NZ dollars with a tub of tartare sauce… $54 NZ dollars if you wanted to eat in! Never recommend this place.

Best Cafe in Dunedin is a must-visit for seafood lovers, known for its fresh blue cod, Bluff oysters, and classic fish and chips. Open since 1932, it offers a cozy, vintage vibe with friendly service. Located on Stuart Street, it’s perfect for a nostalgic dining experience near the city’s landmarks.

Food was great. Bluff oysters were nice and fresh all the food tasted well cooked. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The ice cream afterwards was so good. The cherry on top of an amazing dining experience.

Worst chips I’ve ever had. All tiny little shrivelled up pieces that appears to have been re-fried multiple times. And a final kick in the guts was the price, $44.50 for 4 small pieces greasy of fish and some terrible chips. Do not go there, unless you like to be disappointed.

I enjoyed the blue cod fish and chips!! The mussels were also fantastic. Super cute place and nice staff. Thank you!
