15 Quirky Places to Visit on Your Next Colorado Family Road Trip

"Most Best Western hotels adhere to a beige conformity sprinkled with a bit of Southwestern desert flair, but the Best Western Denver Southwest has blown the doors off by embracing the area’s paleontological history and decorating the whole place with faux dinosaur bones, statues, and other Jurassic bric-a-brac. Run by hoteliers Greg and Meredith Tally, the hotel was given its five million dollar makeover in 2013 in order to celebrate the rich history of dinosaur discovery in the area. Nearby “Dinosaur Ridge” was the site where the first stegosaurus bones were found, as well as the first remains of an Apatosaurus, two major finds in the field of paleontology which forever associated the area with thunder lizards. The Tally’s have their own stegosaurus, named Stanley, that greets guests in the front of the hotel, although he is simply a fiberglass statue (unfortunately). Once inside, visitors are greeted with a huge, replica stegosaurus skeleton that looks like it was just dusted out of the rock behind the reception desk. Nearby is a lobby lounge that is kitted out to look like a lush explorer’s club of yesteryear, complete with T-Rex skull and man height femurs. There is also a dino-themed restaurant and other smaller touches like colorful murals covering the exterior walls and a Pterosaur-shaped weather vane." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Very comfortable beds, quiet rooms, very clean room and clean bathroom. Loved the cooked breakfast with many choices! Great coffee in lounge. All the staff look happy and they are all very friendly and helpful. Dinosaur theme is adorable. We didn’t use the pool but it looked big and really nice with jacuzzi. We will stay again next time in Denver!

I really liked this spot and would stay again. First off the craziest thing about the place is that it’s fully got a dinosaur motif! Throughout the whole place, you’re gonna see murals of dinosaurs, dinosaur bones, dinosaur relics in cases, it’s quite entertaining. Complimentary breakfast is plentiful…many items on offer and the people serving our friend were friendly. The front desk was accommodating and friendly. It’s not a luxury spa resort but if you need a place to stay and you wanna feel safe and happy…this is your spot.

Overall our stay here was great, the dinosaur theme was truly fun and ran throughout the entire hotel. The pool and hot tub were clean and stocked with towels. The room was also clean and the beds were soft, everything was stocked. We received a goody bag on check-in with snacks and bottled water. The breakfast had a good variety, it was all delicious! Thank you for the care you show your guests and hotel!

Google
It's a great motel with a Dinosaur Theme , some really great wall murals inside and out.lots of factoids. Rooms are your general rooms we had a king bed ,chair with ottoman, small work area desk and chair, very well kept and maintained , clean 👍 Staff friendly and helpful. Good hot breakfast served 6:30 -9:30 Would surely return and recommend!

Hotel was pretty quiet. Room was very clean but the shower was a little small. At no point in my stay did I feel unsafe, breakfast was nice, and the hot tub and pool outside was also nice. The mattress in my room was uncomfortable with sunken spots so it might be time to replace them at some point. If I come back to the area I'd stay here again however. Also, fun dinosaur theme. 🦖🦕

Reviews for this hotel are all over the board. We are Best Western rewards member and we got a good rate, plus it was close to Red Rock Amphitheater. We decided to give it a try, but we were prepared to go elsewhere if needed. We stayed 3 nights, hotel was clean and quiet, staff was fine. Hotel is very dated and getting run down. Dinosaur theam was small and not a factor. Pool and hot tub were open but looked like it needed to be drained and the walls scrubbed. Breakfast was medium at best, not a lot of choices and out of a lot of things. Rooms are only cleaned by request, which is fine but we never got clean towels and would end up getting our own clean towels from laundry room every day. My bed was clean but mattress wore out. There are obvious transient in the neighborhood area, but we never saw any on the hotel grounds. Bottom line...I would probably look for someplace else next time.

My family and I just stayed at the Best Western Denver Southwest hotel from 7/24-7/28. We were very disappointed with our stay. We had accidentally spilled some water on the floor of our room so we wiped it up. The floor was so dirty and disgusting. The towel we used to wipe it up was just full of dirt from the floor. Then, a vehicle was parked in the only handicapped van accessible for two days. So we looked closer and noticed the person was working on something at the hotel. We also noticed that the vehicle did not have a handicapped place card or license plate. It finally got moved since I complained about it twice and got the local police department involved. Something should have been done about the vehicle without any handicapped parking authorization before I said anything and I had to say something twice. My son is in a wheelchair so it’s hard enough to get him unloaded then when a vehicle parks in a handicapped parking spot that should not be parked there it makes it even harder for us and other people who truly need the spot. For how much we paid for the hotel room I expect the floor to be clean and not so disgusting that a towel is so black and full of dirt from the floor. It’s like the floor hasn’t been cleaned for months. Truly disappointed with our stay because of the dirty floor and the handicapped spot being taken that should not have been. The employees there need to do way better at cleaning and watching their parking lot.

This is the most quiet, peaceful hotel I have ever stayed at. It's in a busy area with lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. Good restaurants across the street. Main drag is a bit busy, so be careful if on foot. Hotel is clean, very comfortable beds and friendly staff. Slept like a log, it was so quiet. Couldn't even tell there were other guests staying there. Cool dinosaur theme throughout.

Yelp
Stayed here recently on a business trip through the area. Reservation made at the BW website online. A double queen, ground floor on the inside with a view of the pool. The standard minimum amenities you expect, the room was very basic and clean and met my needs for the night. Very quiet, fairly comfortable accommodations and convenient location in the southwest portion of the greater Denver area. 3 Stars convenient locale and served its purpose. 00994

Yelp
I'm genuinely surprised by the good reviews for this place. We arrived thinking we would get the quality of a three star hotel, but were unfortunately underwhelmed. To start out - the location: it's not in the best part of town. When we arrived, we were greeted with several homeless not even a block away making me nervous about the safety of our car. I also wouldn't feel safe going for a walk around the area with the kids. Once inside the hotel, it was nicely decorated with dinosaur themes but you could tell the hotel was much older. We checked in and went up to our room. The Room: Walking into the room, we were hit in the face with a musky, moldy smell. I turned the AC on as soon as we walked in to try and air it out. The AC was very loud. The room was nothing fancy, two beds and an old TV. The carpet was stained in multiple places and the carpet hadn't been vacuumed. My kids also found garbage underneath the AC unit, including a half drank bottle of water, an old key card, and some change. The lamp in the room was tilted, the remote control had something dry and crusty on the side of it. The beds were a bit tough, more like sitting on a box spring rather than a mattress, but they did pass by bed bug check so that was good. My oldest (under 12) was so caught off guard by the cleanliness of the room that he asked if we had to stay there. We had been on a road trip and stayed at several other hotels and they were night and day difference. I called Best Western to ask for help canceling the stay. They called the front desk and the front desk manager asked me to come down to try and resolve my issues. He showed us a different room, that looked all of about the same as that one but overall, the taste in our mouths was already ruined about the location so we opted for a cancellation instead. I do appreciate the front desk staff acknowledging the issues we found and approving our cancellation.

Yelp
What an adorable hotel! Located in a fairly quiet part of Lakewood, this Best Western is DINOSAUR/ARCHEOLOGY THEMED(!) which was an automatic booking for me and hubs. We loved the whole aesthetic and the hotel itself was pretty quiet and clean. We had a room that was facing the pool and on the first floor. The people above us were annoying as hell and stomping around (not unlike the dinosaurs that were represented throughout the property) and the kids at the pool were also loud and annoying as hell. I asked to change rooms but it was impossible since they were booked solid, so I settled for standing at the window and giving them all the "Kubrick stare" until they got creeped out and shut up. The room itself was spacious enough for two and the beds were comfy. The air conditioning worked well and the water pressure in the shower was good. Plenty of parking, too. One star off because they didn't have many gluten free breakfast options outside of fruit and hard boiled eggs, but I expect in 10 yrs when we all have various degrees of allergies and gluten intolerance, the options will be better.

Yelp
On business trip for 2 days here in Colorado. This is a long stay hotel. Restaurant/bar was not open when I arrived around 7pm. However, I was able to order Grub Hub with nearby restaurants. and they will deliver to your room. There is really nothing walking distance accessible. Lobby store is very minimal for snacks or toiletries. AND THERE IS NO ELEVATOR. Saving grace is it is only a 2-story building and flights are not steep. I would not stay here again. I will be looking for a hotel with more amenities inside or outside. Update: I never received an email of my invoice for the stay more than 2 weeks later. I had to call and ask them to email the itemized invoice. So much for going paperless. I will have to start asking for a copy at check-out from now on I guess.

Yelp
***DISCLAIMER*** I didn't actually stay here, I put my in-laws and an elderly uncle here for a week because of my daughter's HS graduation. This place is quiet and off the beaten path. The rooms are clean and spacious. This is definitely a gem in the middle of a ton of sketchy places. It appear well maintained. They were both happy with their rooms. The breakfast is self serve but it isn't. It's behind a counter and you order what you want and they hand you the plate of food. It's the pretty standard fare.... Eggs, waffles, a meat, and the like. And there is a sand pit right out front with a fiberglass dinosaur. Fossils are the theme in the common areas as well. The pool is also a zero depth entry and is heated as well. The hot tub broke during their stay with an unknown repair date. It's fine, it happens. What peeved me the most was the common usage bathrooms were locked at 6pm. The pool is open until 10. So while hanging out and catching up, if you needed to go to the bathroom, you had to walk to a room and walk back. It's fairly easy for someone like me who is relatively young. However, for my elderly uncle (83) and my in-laws (late 70's) this was a chore. And on those lines, there is a second floor but no elevator. What is the alternative if the entire first floor is sold out but you cannot physically climb stairs? Because of it's location, I don't think selling out is a problem but you never know. I would consider a stay-cation here in the summer because it's close to home and a nice getaway. But I would definitely make sure the hot tub was working first.

Yelp
We've been traveling all week on a cross country road trip and have stayed in several other hotels, this has been the best one so far!! The rooms were pretty quiet at night, and very clean. Hot breakfast buffet and coffee in the morning was amazing! The beds were very comfortable too. Would highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
Nice looking property inside and out. Dinosaur themed, nicely done with murals and fossil displays. Nice outdoor pool and tub. Staff A-, sometimes difficult to communicate clearly with desk staff where reservations were made and extended. Bed: A-, a few lumps. Room B- , should not be a hole in the carpet where you walk in, shifty loose toilet seat. Some pets apparently allowed, I don't like getting barked at by a large dog in the hallway. A kid would have screamed.Reasonable rates.

Hanna L.

Yelp
My family and I stay here every year for the Denver Gem show and we are always so pleased with the place. The rooms are clean, the staff is always incredibly kind and helpful, and the free breakfast is amazing. The dinosaur theme is so fun and they have so many activities to keep the little ones busy. Can't wait to come back next year!

Yelp
Friendly and housekeeping was kind and helpful. Home cooked breakfast. Nice beds and clean.

Yelp
I would normally give this a high rating, except for this last day was the worst day I've ever had here usually it's a good day the new person they have with the curly hair in the front desk light straight to my face three times I've asked him to pass out a message to the owner, which I don't think he has because the owner is really good about getting back and the owners excellent with customer service. I've been there for almost a week and they have yet to give me any decaf coffee downstairs, the gentleman working at the front desk with the curly hair said to me that maintenance took care of the complaints I had for the room I checked into 223 and the bathroom wasn't cleaned. I had to clean it myself. The curtains were just hanging there, not clipped on at the end so that you couldn't control opening and closing. The sink was backed up and the toilet was dirty. You could tell somebody had used the shower recently. I told the curly head kid at the front desk what was going on? I came back that night and he told me he stood there and watched the maintenance guy. Take care of it, when I talk to the maintenance guy, he said he never been in that room to fix any of this stuff. It was the first time finding out when I told him and he immediately fixed everything. Gilberto is a great guy for maintenance but as I said, they really need to get rid of that curly haired kid. He's not good for the desk. You should never lie to you don't tell the customer he wants to hear you tell the customer the truth of what he ask, I've asked several times to pass on to the owner and she's very good about returning calls so I don't think she's gotten any of this We are diamond members we usually always have over 400,000 points this time here no water nothing

Yelp
Interesting Dinosaur themed property, especially for kids. Terrible bed bounces/moves every time the other person gets in or out. Otherwise, quiet place. Hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuits covered in gravy. Oh, so healthy, huh?

Holland S.

Yelp
Be aware. Rooms with huge blood stain mattresses. The most disgusting experience ever. Treated like garbage by management and lied to several times over process of trying a resolution. This is room #242. The manager Alice was rude non apologetic. Horrible experience. Book elsewhere.

Yelp
71 years old been traveling all day, try to check in our reserved room 45 minutes early and they will not let us!

Yelp
Stayed here 3 nights for a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The location was ideal... an easy 10-15 minute drive to the venue. I was EXTREMELY impressed with the staff at this facility... very friendly and plentiful... both a rarity in this day and age. They even had a young man conducting morning dinosaur classes for the children! I was a little put off at first by the dinosaur theme of the hotel, but it grew on me. It's an older hotel but has been nicely renovated. The only drawback related to age was that my shower was just warm, not hot, during the peak time of midmorning. Otherwise, it was fine. The outdoor pool and hot tub were well heated, enjoyable even though outside temps were in the 40s. There were even dinosaur floatable toys for the kids. Breakfast was excellent... hot items of eggs, meat, hash browns, oatmeal & waffles, and sometimes biscuits & gravy. Lots of variety with cold items as well... the scones on my last day were delicious. Rooms were spacious with microwave & fridge. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. The beds were very comfy and I slept well. Even though the hotel was full, there was very little noise, and I couldn't hear anything from the adjoining rooms. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel... my stay was AMAZING!

Yelp
Best western in Lakewood Colorado....started out great. Picture it, Lakewood Colorado yesterday. I was trying to make a reservation online using the pay with points and cash option. It wasn't working, so I called the 800 number and was told they do not deal with the website and what I was wanting to do needed to be done at the front desk. Then I was transferred to rewards and was told the exact same thing. I explained the issue and asked for someone to call me and I filled out the email form. I had to leave unexpectedly and was gone until around 9:00pm. The first thing I did was check to see if I had messages and then went to the desk to tell them what was up. Kyle, the front desk guy basically called me a liar when I told him what I was told. He wouldn't stop. He implied that I was trying to scam and that I lied about customer service. So I asked him if he had a number I could call. He was so condescending and said reservations does not them. He gave me a number to call. I went to go call it, because I wanted to take care of it. Well, wouldn't you know, the number was not a working number. Had to go back down and get a different number, which ended up being the same number I called earlier. Once again I was told the same thing. So I went back downstairs and told Kyle what I was told and he shrugged and walked away. Then I was standing there and he said are you going to pay for your room or not? Then he bitched me out because I came so late to do it and he said I'd been there 4 or 5 days and have come down real late 2 to 3 times. I said I've been here about 18 days, but he said no so I figured let him say it, it's in the system. So I went back upstairs and tried online again and the app, but it didn't work. Tried on phone then tried on computer. While trying he called up to the room and I said I was waiting for my son because he had my card and he should be back in about 15 minutes. Kyle then asked me is it really 15 minutes or are you going to dilly dally all night. Then he kept rambling about stuff which made about as much sense as drunken prom date and I finally said, what do you want me to do? He rambled again and said he called his boss and she she said to pay for it in the morning but I have to talk to the manager and check out by 11. I said, I'm paying it now. He said something else but not sure what so I repeated myself. AS SOON AS THE CARD GETS HERE I AM COMING DOWN TO PAY IT. that was not good enough for Big K. The rambling continued so I hung up on him because I am trying to take care of this. Then he called back all butt hurt saying you need to leave tonight. It was 11 pm. Plus he was calling the police and I said do what you have to do. We started packing up and he came upstairs and stood at the door way and asked are you checking out? I said yes, remember I have to? Then he just stood there and we closed the door to finish. This is the 2nd time I'm posting this because you took away the first one. Oh, and when I called customer service the second time and explained, he said I need to talk to customer relations. Which I sent them basically this. He would not stop harassing us and mad because I dont know best western pos system. We left and cleaned the room and took pictures. We are not trashy like he is. After reading all these comments, it pretty much indicates that you won't be responding to this if you even put it up.

Yelp
Last night I had to sleep in my rental car on a cold Denver evening. After reserving and even prepaying for my hotel months in advance, this hotel was overbooked. No other hotel in the area had any last minute availability and I was left homeless for the night. They didn't even have the curtesy to call me or let me know that I would have a room after I flew halfway across the country.

Ryan L.

Yelp
Friendly staff, clean rooms, great dinosaurs! This is the place to stay if you're on a budget.

Ignacio L.

Yelp
A nice hotel with a fun unique theme throughout. The facility is dated - no elevators - but they've done the best possible keeping it up to date. The date was friendly and mostly very helpful. The breakfast was alright... Food was standard hotel fair, but it was dishes up for us. Seemed odd, but it worked fine. The rooms were comfortable and clean.

Yelp
When on vacation and driving 16hrs knowing your hotel is booked, you expect to arrive & just check in without a hassle. That was definitely not the case for my family & I. We arrived little before 11pm to check in after a long drive to find that they gave our room away & were "fully booked". The guy at the front desk did not want to wake up his manager & bother him. We waited about 1hr 1/2 so they can find us a room. The cleanliness of the hotel and rooms are overall good quality. Breakfast is included but ends 9:30 depending on the cook & if they want to keep it open until then. We decided to add a couple nights but the receptionist was real rude and claimed they were all booked for the night. Overall, I'd say my stay here was okay but I wouldn't book here again because I don't want to deal with okay service. 3 stars for cleanliness but no stars for the service.
google avatar

Dustin B.

Yelp
I would have given this hotel a 5 star rating for the following reasons: -the staff was extremely kind and attentive. -the restaurant in the hotel had pretty decent food. I got the quesadillas and they pretty good and not too expensive. -the hotel is clean and has a pretty fun dinosaur theme for those who are dino enthusiasts. There's fossils everywhere and the staff seems knowledgeable about the prehistoric animals which is random but really cool. -it's in a good location. There is a planet fitness across the street, and down the road is a mall and other restaurants near by. The reason I subtracted two stars is because of something that seems ridiculous but really did effect my stay. The freaking small square pillows on the bed! I cannot sleep. I am literally up right now in bed because It is so uncomfortable. The standard pillow you can wrap your arm around and prop the pillow for comfort. These square pillows are duds. Can't do anything with them no matter how many you have. I had to let someone know. Goodnight. It won't be one for me.
google avatar

Miatsu K.

Yelp
I have stayed in this hotel many times over the years due to house repairs or having guests come into town. The staff has always been pleasant, the room is clean and checking in and out is simple. The area is nice and quiet with a gas station/convenience store right across the street. The pool is well kept.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
We live near Lakewood but needed to get away for a few days and we were VERY pleasantly surprised! The rate was very affordable for a 3-night stay. The motif is...well, funny - odd - kitschy. It's like a 50's era tourist trap with a dinosaur theme. It felt like stepping back into time in a fun, nostalgic sorta way. It's just...funny! But, the room was very clean, pet friendly, warm, nice - not bad. Pillows are too small but that's ok as the beds are comfortable. The free hot breakfast was good each morning: eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, green chile, etc. Free newspapers in the lobby. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Lived here my whole life and had no idea this was here. I would have paid more.
google avatar

Lisabeth L.

Yelp
Straight up best/coolest Best Western I've stayed in. Zach checked us in. He was super helpful. The place is clean, the dinosaurs are absolutely fantastic. It's the best non-Disney hotel I've ever stayed in. Great job.
google avatar

Civilocity J.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Every time I've tried to call the desk, no answer. Every door, to outside & laundry, lock at 10pm, which is so dumb, considering I requested when I booked and when getting to this location for a room close to a door, due to a puppy..... BUT I'm also on a cane.... I've had to walk more in this hotel then I have anywhere else I've put the same request in at... (you don't realize how hard this is unless you're on a walking device.) one of the staff looked me dead in the eye, unpacking my car, and locked the door..... with unfriendly front house staff, no answer (even at 4am) to any call I've tried to make, I don't even care to try any more.... There are Creepers in the parking lot, a whole mess of trash, AND my bed is uncomfortable. Oh, the room? Got my dogs sick the first night... and just because it's cold outside doesn't mean I want my room hot!!! I can't sleep in the heat, and My room is set to 61.. guess what. I've woken up sweating every morning..... NEVER staying in a best western again!!!!!
google avatar

Josette L.

Yelp
We picked this place because it was close to everything we wanted to see around Denver and Estes area. The hotel is decorated with dinosaurs and located close to museums that we wanted to check out. The staff are very nice and the hotel and rooms are very clean and comfortable. Overall we are very happy with this place.
google avatar

Coni S.

Yelp
I had surgery and needed to stay on a hotel die to the amount of stairs at home. They helped us get into the room and were very patience and kind with how slow I was moving. Not a single grimace in sight. The hotel also has some cool dinosaur stuff for kids. Clean, quiet and peaceful. **there are very few power outlets in the room so bring an extension cord.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 5 days. I will say it was the best stay ever. So very accommodating in every way. Even when departing I left some cash and Alice helped and delivered and sent to my family where it belonged not in a holly bible. The quality of care between the staff and quest was amazing. Thank you for the best stay. Can't wait to come back in three months!
google avatar

Ally S.

Yelp
I'd stay somewhere else if I were you. Waited for 30min to be helped... assumed this used to be a nice part of Denver. There was a significant amount of drugged out people in the immediate area and I saw the front desk clerk doing drugs in a window of the hotel... I'd steer clear

Ava H.

Yelp
ultimately clean room. But our camper got stolen at 4 am and there are no cameras outside at all, only one camera inside. Cops said 2 trucks got stolen and a car got broken into yet they still don't put up cameras?!! this completely ruined our trip...never go here with the hopes of a safe night
google avatar

Joey R.

Yelp
So I wanted to try this hotel out as they have and amazing dinosaur display pet friendly and looked to be a nice place nice price stay. When I first arrived there was a man bleeding at the counter and yelling at the front desk staff, kind of alarming but hey we all have to deal with nuts for time to time. Check in was easy pet fee is on the lower side so that's a plus, nice room and clean...now let's get into why I only gave this place two stars! Late night crowd gets a little to methy and very loud, the first floor is the pet floor and it's right by the exit doors, opening and closing all night with ppl running up and down the exit stairs, walls are thin so you can hear everything. Then in the morning went to the front desk and waited 10min along with other guests for service and no one showed up, so I went back to my room, not even 2 min later a knock on the door from the front desk lady, asked if I was extending and I told her yes that I waited for her at the front desk, she became very short and rude saying I did not wait that long, when I requested room service for the day the same lady said we don't do extended room service, I explained I just need towels and toiletries, she snapped back saying well that's pretty much full service, wow!!! What a customer service location!! Very rude and disappointing to say the least!
google avatar

Moses V.

Yelp
I don't have the greatest of words to say about the way they treated my family and I upon arrival after an 18 hr drive. You don't give away someone's room when they've booked weeks in advanced. I'm not to happy about this place. Stay here at your own risk I guess.
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
Great hotel! Clean room, comfy bed, dogs allowed, free (fast) wifi, good food, friendly service, quiet and relaxing...what more can you ask for?! Really got a kick out of the whole dinosaur theme too! Next time we're in Denver we'll be back here for sure!
google avatar

Taylor Amanda S.

Yelp
This used to be one of my top hotels and loved going there. Few employees were helpful and helped me a lot when my car broke down, other employees were extremely rude for no reason and completely judgemental. I've stayed multiple nights; lots of money put in there. I was about to rent a room again last night!! But then I got really grossed out and started sneezing bad and eyes watered. Im super sensitive to allergens, FYI. I turn around and was so so so sad and disappointed when I saw a cockroach! I'm allergic!!! They can irritate people with asthma too! So on top of not only that, I'm already having hard time breathing from the fires. I thought so highly of them and was gonna take my kids there who ADORE dinosaurs
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
If restaurants receive value and designation through reviews, I do not see the harm in reviewing hotels. In general, Best Western is your run of the mill place to shack up for the weekend but I was surprised by one thing they provided -- delicious continental breakfast! Wow, I've never had such good biscuit and gravy that was made in bulk for hotel guests. All around, the food they provided for us was clean and fresh, much to my surprise. Eveything else, such as the room was clean and pretty general hotel items were provided. No bed bugs, so that's a win for me!

Yelp
We are here for 5 nights and are very satisfied. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly. Breakfast is more than a continental breakfast to my surprise Scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausage, fruits, yogurts and freshly made waffles. Fitness room is small but has enough equipment to get a good workout Did not try the pool

Yelp
The outside of the building is ugly but that's besides the point. The rooms were clean and that's what I care about. Although we were there 3 days and they never cleaned our rooms again. The parking lot was another story. Looked like a few people were living in their cars outside and some "hanging out" outside the building. A bit sketchy. Denver in general seems to have a lot more of that since I was there last. I guess it's a big issue right now. On the first night, the toilet overflowed. I had to send my son running for the front desk on the other side of the building for a plunger. We called panicking and they said come get it. Toilet water all on the floor. Yikes. Anyway, the breakfast wasn't very good. Scrambled eggs were ok but everything else was nasty. Weird potatoes, questionable green chili, blue waffles with a small syrup cup. Watered down juice in a pitcher. Old, broken up cereal in the dispenser. Not many choices and all the food was given by an attendant working the counter. I'm sure this cuts down on cost. Don't worry we didn't want seconds. Lastly, if you have knee or mobility issues request a room on the first floor. There's no elevator. Good luck if you brought big heavy suitcases. You'll get a little workout.

Yelp
Great staff, clean rooms and the heated pool and spa are phenomenal! Good central location wIth quick access to dining and shopping. Beds are comfortable and rooms are quiet. My only complaint would be the lack of lighting in the rooms. Very poor for putting on makeup or trying to read. Could have also used a few more outlets.

Yelp
Stayed 2 nights last week on business, and they get 5 stars for the combination of cleanliness, comfort, and value. Those are my 3 main criteria for rating a hotel/motel, in that order. Everything was totally clean, no exceptions. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Also, for this area, this was one of the best rates for a decent place to stay. The icing on the cake was the staff being friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Positives - the room was clean, the front desk staff couldn't have been nicer, and 3 Pokemon stops surround the hotel. Negatives - shower/toilet "bathroom" literally could not have been smaller or the door wouldn't open. Bigger people may not be able to get in and shut the door. The continental breakfast was ok, the buffet area was too small and 1 waffle maker for the 30-40 people always in there isn't enough. It was always packed, it seemed to have 1 die hard parent hogging it for 10-15 minutes at a time. Buy 1 or 2 more for crying out loud. The 2nd floor hallway in the southwest corner smelled like kitty litter the entire 4 day stay. Decent hotel, glad I didn't pay $159 (front desk quoted rate) , seems more like a $89 motel.

Yelp
Nope. Drunk people in the hallways and outside. It sounded like people were jumping up and down all night in the room above us. All of the doors are locked at 10pm except the main lobby. Absolutely terrible during a winter storm-and traveling with two dogs.

Yelp
There are too many hotels located close by to choose from over this poorly ran, maintained, cheap location like this spot. Aside from miserable employees, you'll be lucky to sit down in the bathroom with how small the bathrooms are. My biggest problem is the marshmallow pillows. Honestly the stupidest pillow I'v ever seen and now have neck pains from being forced to lay with my head a foot up. I wasn't even going to leave this poor review and let it go, but it was the rudeness of the hotel staff when I asked to use the pool a little sooner then the 10AM it opens. 10AM?? Geez quick to start the day... I promise I will never stay here again, nor any other Best Western out of spite at this point. I'll be sure to relay the story to the 20 family members here as well. Keep it up!

Yelp
Good location and suited our needs. Price was right and place was clean. The hotel has a paleontology theme in the lobby and hallways which we weren't expecting but was interesting. Employees very nice. The bartender at Paleo Jo's was very helpful. The complimentary breakfast had LOTS of options, much more than the cereal and fruit I'd been expecting. Surprised to see people swimming in the outdoor pool in February - pool is obviously heated. :) On the downside, I found the bed and pillows to be quite uncomfortable, which is what docked stars.

Yelp
Stayed here for one night with my boyfriend last weekend and overall the hotel isn't too bad. It's your run of the mill Dino themed Best Western with an outdoor heated pool. Nothing too fancy, but not shabby either. We stayed in room 267 and the door is nearly impossible to open. After checking in my boyfriend and I found our room on the second floor -there was no elevator- but wasn't inconvenient since we didn't have to go far up. What made me most unhappy was how difficult our door was. After being unable to open it ourselves we found a staff member who very kindly and nonchalantly explained the process as if it were common knowledge. Slide card, pull in, and very very VERY slowly twist the handle down, then push to open. You had to go so slow you actually put effort into how slow you had to twist the door knob. Aside from that, I was content with the hotel in regards to cleanliness and hospitality

Yelp
We so enjoyed our recent Staycation! Here! Really appreciated the theme of Dinosaurs, as our 11 year old loved looking at your displays. We also like loved Paul in your cafe/bar!! Great service and your kitchen manager/cook Johan delivered some great food!! Pool and hot tub were just what we needed to relax- thank you

Yelp
What an incredible treat! It's a dinosaur hotel!!! In the heart of dino country, this place should be a tourist attraction. The lobby alone takes you back to the Jurassic period and is highlighted by their 'explorer's club' sitting area filled with cool dinosaur stuff. There are also really cool dinosaur murals we took our pictures with. Beyond the dino stuff they also had clean and comfortable rooms, an awesome breakfast and a pool and (more importantly) hot tub that were perfectly refreshing. They even had entertainment! We went to a 2 hour birds of prey lecture they had there and met owls, falcons and hawks! We stayed here with the kids (3 and 6) while going to the incredible, nearby Morrison Natural History Museum and this place and that are the perfect pair. The kids adored it and so did we. We're telling all our friends with kids.

Yelp
Excellent beds with snuggly covers, glass and ceramic in the rooms instead of paper and plastic. Fast and friendly maintenance response when we had an issue with previous tenants smoking in the rooms. This hotel is clearly run by top notch management. And the price is right!

Yelp
As the wise man said: tastes like pteradactyl. Which is presumably why one seeks out this particular Best Western, and if that's why you've sought out this particular Best Western, yes! This is the place! I'm prefacing my review with this because it's possible some travelers might not know this is a dinosaur-themed hotel. This is a dinosaur-themed hotel, because there's a history of amazing fossil finds nearby, and because life is better when occasionally a plain-Jane Best Western finds an unusual way to make a traveler smile. This one certainly does. The public areas have some wonderful artifacts to enjoy, and the stegasaurus guarding the entryway certainly gives one a feeling of safety from apex predators. (So very pointy.) The proprietors have clearly gone to some trouble to make this a charming, not cheesy, experience. Delightful. And the rest of the hotel? It's a Best Western; you know the drill. My room was clean and well-arranged, the bed was super-comfy, and the wi-fi was excellent. (The bathroom was shower-only, which I personally prefer.) There's a nice breakfast in the mornings and a good-looking pool area for those who do not foolishly forget to pack the relevant garments. If my stay had been just a little longer I could have picked some up nearby, as the hotel's near a couple of very large malls. (I'm a little worried about the reviewer who thought the location was "sketchy" -- very much not a sketchy neighborhood. Remarkably quiet, in fact, considering how close it is to major roadways.) I took plenty of photos and shared them with friends who have heard of the famous Dinosaur Hotel; when they asked me if I enjoyed my stay I gave them an emphatic "yes," and now I'm giving it to you. Go.

Yelp
Ok, so I must preface this review by saying that I am an extremely loyal Best Western customer, having stayed at between 30-40 different Best Western locations over the past couple years. That being said, this location is by far the worst experience I have had. Check in: Stood in line for a few minutes, then was told I could sign the paperwork to check in but had to wait for my room keys while they "changed shifts." After waiting for 15 minutes (with several others who had been told the same thing), was finally given my key. The room: The room itself was not horrible, but it sure wasn't great. The furniture seemed to be too big for the room, affording barely any space to get past the desk. There were no pictures on the walls...very depressing. The bathroom was tiny: even as a small person I had to inch around the toilet to close the door. At least they left free condoms in the nightstand...oh wait, that was from the last guests that they neglected to clean up after. GROSS Breakfast: The custom omelet station looked awesome (and is the only reason this is not rated only one star). HOWEVER, there were so many people crammed into the tiny room waiting for omelets that there was no way I could get one without waiting for an hour. Had to settle for only coffee (thank god they had coffee) and a couple tiny half-thawed blueberry muffins. I know they are in the middle of renovations, but that is no excuse. There is a clear lack of organization amongst the management and staff, culminating in a horrible experience. The best part of the experience was leaving this place!

Yelp
Apparently this Best Western is really into dinosaurs! This is cool, especially for the kids. The rooms were pretty spacious and clean. It's a nice looking BW overall. I was surprised it was pretty quiet given the amount of punk teens we saw around the property...maybe I've been wrong about punk teens all this time. The parking is easy and the staff were very fun and nice. The downside was the breakfast area was packed and chaotic. Tons of people. I skipped it for some more peace and quiet.
