Had the best time for the weekend with my family of 3. Spacious room. The beds were nice. My bonus son had a great time at the pool. Close to Penn State, and a shopping center. Also Sheetz was a nice place close by for food. The view of the mountain from our room was great too. Second floor was a little noisy in the morning. I could hear stomping from upstairs and noise from the lobby, but outside of the morning breakfast hours, it was quiet.

Superb stay from start to finish! The staff was welcoming, the facility was nice, and my room was very clean. The hot breakfast (eggs, sausage, and waffles) was excellent as well. This hotel exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here for XCel Regional gymnastics competition. Room was clean and spacious, bathroom was clean, good water pressure, the indoor pool was great (not heated though, at least not that day), breakfast was great and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There’s a Sheetz , awesome BBQ joint and other eateries right across the way. Sam’s Club and Walmart right in the same location. Quick trip to the Nittany Sports Center and Stadium. I would absolutely stay here again without question.

A very clean hotel with very pleasant staff. Close to the main highway and also close to downtown but far enough away from both that allows you to relax. A nice continental breakfast that is well kept. The rooms are spacious and kept very clean. Ive now stayed there 5 nights. When back in the area I won't hesitate to stay there again.

Everything was awesome. It was a perfect location, only 15-20 minutes away from all the activities we had planned. Kingdom Hall, Penn Cave, Penn State Garden and Museum, the mall and lots of restaurants very close by. Literally it's right next to the movie theater. The pool was pretty cool. Breakfast was delicious. The room was spacious, clean and with a nice view. The shower was great lots of pressure and hot water was a plus. They have a washer and dryer on the 4th floor free might I add. My favorite was 24hr access to coffee in the lobby.

Clean, comfortable, good location, friendly staff. Was only there for a quick overnight so didn’t use the various amenities such as the fitness room or pool, but all looked nice.

Nice place and very clean with a decent access to a variety of restaurants and shopping. Pool are was very clean. Nice open and clean lobby to sit in and also free wifi without needing a password.

Visit was on April 12th - 13th. I did book from a third-party source that gave me an affordable rate and accommodated my needs, greatly on short-notice as my family and I needed to stay for a family emergency. Rooms were clean and the front desk was great with their hospitality service. Hotel looks great outside for a Best Western. Continential breakfast was good.

Yelp
I called for a reservation. It's was posted pet friendly in Ames Iowa. After driving 9 hours needed a room and I am a member she would not give me a room because I have a cat. And it was not posted no cats. Only pet friendly.

Yelp
Best Western will continue to get my business. The staff is outstanding! Hotel is clean and comfy. You're reading this review from someone whose staying here for a week to weeks at a time. I made my reservations to ensure I had a room because it's worth going here. Focus on homey and a typical hotel stay. As someone whose stayed in hotels 1/3 of this year thus far, I'm not new to this. Hotel breakfast is a typical eggs, meat, grain with yogurt, milk, coffee, breads/muffins and that does the job for me! However, the location is great! Near Planet Fitness, Aldi's, Walmart, Sheetz, and more so it's ideal for those who need to run errands after a long work day. I feel safe and it's quieter in this area. I enjoy solitude so it's great to come back to feel comfy and not cramped in this hotel. They maintain a clean outside as well! Highly recommend for your next stay in State College.

Yelp
Our rather large group had a less than wonderful experience at this hotel over this past weekend. Upon booking our 12 (group) rooms, we spoke with the person who was booking the group rooms and told them we had a large group that was coming for a basketball tournament and requested to watch the NBA All Star contests on the TV. She said that would not be a problem and even offered the use of the conference room on premises to accomodate our group. The person at the desk however, was very rude and disrespectful. She refused to put the NBA contest on the TV in the lobby lounge or allow us to use the conference room as promised. She also called the police on our group for "excessive noise". There were times that multiple children were running around the hotel and being loud, our parents addressed those kids each time (even if they didn't belong to our group). There were also other family and kid groups in the hotel at the same time and they were not addressed even though they could easily have also been contributing to the noise. This was also occurring at 7-8pm and NOT quiet hours. The desk person never addressed any noise complaint with any adult in our group and the majority of our group was chatting, eating and talking in the lobby lounge watching basketball. Yes, there were also some alcoholic beverages present but not one single person was intoxicated or unruly in the adult group. Tell me that your business doesn't want kid groups in the future without really telling me, because our group travels for tournaments frequently, and we will never use another Best Western for our travels after our experience here.

Yelp
Alexis was amazingly helpful with our rooms. We had many question. Breakfast was hot and delicious. Would recommend highly. Rooms were very clean and quiet.

Yelp
Surprised to say the least! When my wife told me we were staying at a Beat Western, I feared the worst, but this place is surprisingly very nice! We recently stayed her for a weekend and have zero complaints. Location: just outside of State College, which would be perfect for anyone headed back to school or their families. There is a huge shopping center basically across the street with a Walmart and Sams Club, there's also a Sheetz close to the hotel as well. This location is perfect if you don't have transportation. Room: fairly large room with lots of open areas. There's a small sitting area, which we didn't use. The bathroom is nice, but there is no exhaust fan so it got steamy fairly quickly. Hotel in general: There's a pool, which was the happening place the weekend we stayed, but with Covid we stayed away from that area. It's not really a complaint, but the elevator is right near the entrance to the pool and there was always a lot of water inside the elevator. The place is very clean, the front desk was extremely nice and efficient. Overall the hotel is conveniently located just outside of State College, many shops around and definitely staying here again.

Yelp
Place is clean. Lobby is nice. Lobby is designed to look modern which is not the case for the rooms. Room clean and nice towels. The in room furniture leans more towards the transitional style ( not traditional but a lot less modern). I do agree with another reviewer that stated the walls are THIN. I can hear the person upstairs use the bathroom. I can hear the water run down the pipes when they wash their hands. I can hear every step. I even heard them sneeze. To close for comfort. If you need to rest your head in a clean and not too busy hotel then this works. Parking and breakfast is free.

Yelp
This is very nice affordable hotel in State College. Stayed here for 2 nights for my sister's graduation. The rooms/hotel were very clean. The staff was attentive and friendly. They have free breakfast included with your stay which is a plus for me. They have a a patio in the back with seating which we took advantage of. This hotel is about a 7 minute drive to the college. Would stay here again and recommend.

Yelp
This is your typical hotel. Nothing too fancy or unique about it. The staff was nice and attentive. I had two issues with this place. The first is the entire hotel was extremely humid inside. Yes, it was the beginning of July but the room felt wet when you walked in. Turning on the AC just made it cold and wet. There are no exhaust fans in the bathroom to alleviate the problem. It was the same way in the lobby and breakfast area. The other beef I had was how uncomfortable the beds were. I am by no means a bed snob and can sleep nearly anywhere! My back was killing me in these things! I had to get up and sleep in one of the chairs. All in all, it's your typical overnight hotel. Not bad by any means (unless you want a super comfy bed).

Yelp
The walls are paper thin here, you can basically hear noise from every which way. Woman at front desk was very welcoming and kind. Wouldn't recommend this place

Yelp
I stayed at the Best Western at State College for a work conference at a near by facility. Check in was easy, the desk clerk and breakfast staff were very helpful and nice. The room was clean and updated. The breakfast was good and had a large variety of offerings. But most of all, the hotel was quiet.

Yelp
The laundry machines on the fourth floor are now front loading and FREE!! They have a wall vending machine selling laundry products like u would find at the laundromat so I'd suggest bringing ur own supplies. Otherwise, this hotel goes far, above and beyond in customer service and satisfaction guaranteed time and time again.

Yelp
This was my first time at this hotel in State College and it's doubtful I'll be back. There are multiple hotels which are closer to campus. I chose this one for its proximity to the mall because I was looking for some things to do in the downtime of a work trip. Starting off, I walked into another person's room. The front desk had mistakenly given me a key to a room that was already occupied. Maybe the paper check-in process isn't the best way to do things? Fortunately, there was nobody in the room at the time or it could have been a lot worse. The front desk apologized and they were very friendly during every experience I had with them. The room was average. I have only a couple complaints. The Wi-Fi in this place was pretty horrible. Couldn't even attempt to stream a show without pausing to buffer every few minutes. And the door to the room wasn't very secure. In order to close it completely, I found myself having to pull it to get a good lock. Occasionally I would leave, expect the weight of the door to close it completely, and hear a click. Then I would come back later and find that I could just push the door open. I enjoyed their hot breakfast and the premises were clean. There's a movie theater nearby and the mall is close if you're looking for something to do but I need a better Wi-Fi connection and I'll stay a bit closer to campus for other trips.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay here. The front desk staff was very kind and friendly. Continental breakfast is provided. The dining area is somewhat drafty because it's right off the main entrance. The room was nice. The bed was comfortable. I don't remember if a microwave and fridge were in the room. The key card had to be inserted into a device to turn the heat/air/lights on in the room. I could hear the guests next door having a conversation, though I couldn't make out exactly what they were saying. They weren't talking loud either, but I'm sure they heard me talking on the phone. I had to turn on the heat to drown out the sound of their voices. I could also hear people walking in the room above me occasionally. If I was in the area again, I would likely stay at this hotel.

Yelp
Loved our stay here! My new wife and children and I stayed one night during a family trip. Our room was spotless and clean and the amenities were plentiful and well kept. Bed could have been a little more comfortable but I have problems with most beds anyway. We got a nice big room with two queen size beds for $78 a night from Hotels.com. Not bad right? Well, when we checked out the next morning, the bill ACTUALLY came to $58 a night. $20 less per night than the price quoted online from a site that prides itself on giving you the lowest price. Absolutely phenomenal! On top of all this, before I even booked our stay I called BW to enquire about something in the room description. After one ring the phone was answered by an ACTUAL LIVING HUMAN BEING! Never before have I had that kind of customer service from a national chain of ANYTHING. I'll be looking at Best Western wherever we go from now on.

Yelp
Rooms are modern and very nice. Hotel is newer, so everything is very nice & up-to-date. Nice pool area with a hot tub & small gym!
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
For the price, the room was outstanding. The breakfast left much to be desired. There apparently was a wedding party there when we were there. They had one really noisy, excited kid. We mentioned him at the office and they evidently spoke to them about the child. After all was said and done (wedding party being very loud two nights in a row), the desk refunded one of our nights for us. I would have called it a good place to stay anyhow, but that just sealed the deal so to speak. I heard a story from a cousin of mine who said that when this place first opened it, Denzel Washington rented the entire place because he was filming a movie in the area.

Yelp
We went to the area over Mother's Day weekend. Not having been there, we made reservations at another motel. when we got there, we KNEW we could not stay there so we cancelled and looked around. We called Best Western and asked them if they had rooms...they did. We asked if we could get two rooms close to each other...they put us right across the hall from each other! They were so friendly and helpful. We hated to have to leave! The room was always clean and the breakfast buffet was very good as well. All the staff, cleaning people, restaurant, desk, were all so nice and helpful.

Yelp
Okay, full disclosure: I didn't stay here. I was here for a few minutes. But in that few minutes I was welcomed and treated very kindly, so I'm writing a review based on my experience. I live locally, and was out running. It was much hotter outside than I'd expected, and I'd gone running without carrying water. I was 7 miles into a 10 mile run (ie still 3 miles from home) when I realized getting water had gone from being something I would like to now being an urgent need. I spotted the Best Western in the distance and ran in the front door. I walked up to the desk, and started to explain that I wasn't a guest but needed water. I didn't even get half a sentence out before the extremely kind young man behind the counter said, "Get some water!" and directed me to the breakfast area. He then turned the drink machine on for me (this was mid-afternoon) and welcomed me to help myself. I think that people who treat someone this way have shown that they're dedicated to providing a good experience to guests. I didn't see the rooms or the gym, but the lobby and breakfast area looked clean and comfortable. And if the other employees are as kind and accommodating as this young man was, I think this place would be a good choice to stay in this area. I feel like if the employees are this interested in welcoming someone who isn't even a guest, they're likely taking good care of their guests as well.

Yelp
When I checked in, the front desk clerk was nice. We got to the room and it was big and clean. Everything in the room worked. I have stayed at 2 other hotels in State College. I thought both of those other hotels had much better breakfast. We left the room around noon. We returned to the room around 11 pm. Much to our surprise, no one cleaned the room.

Yelp
Was asking the cool cat behind the desk if he could print out a Drug Test Document off my USB Flash Drive which didn't seem to be a problem at all to him. Came back with the USB Flash Drive and had word with I'm assuming was the General Manager. Was asking me if I was a guest at the hotel which I replied "No" and then asked me what room I was in. I told her "I'm not a guest at the hotel" and I mentioned I need the document off that USB Flash Drive. She had a change of tone and serious attitude towards me. It really looked like she was about to explode a load of tomato juice or something! What a complete jerk! I told her right off and she said don't come back! WORKS FOR ME! I went down the street to the Country Inn and Suites! Joanna at the desk was so sweet and had a beautiful welcoming smile! She let me use the Guest Computer. I plugged my USB Flash Drive in and printed out my document! SHAZAM! Took me 10 seconds and I'm out! You can't get that at Best Western Plus! Only grumpy jerks with no smiles on their faces.

Yelp
It's stays like this that make life long customers. The staff was beyond helpful extending themselves for us upon arrival. The room was very clean, well laid out with ample space. The pool was clear and the fitness room was just right. It is located very closely to a couple great restaurant/bars. This place also has a phenomenal breakfast spread with pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, potatoes, oatmeal and much more. We will definitely be staying here again. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a well priced, clean, nice hotel.

Yelp
I'm a die hard Hilton fan, and have been known to get grumpy when I can't get the hotel I want. The Hilton Garden Inn was full up, as it's parent's weekend at Penn State, so we opted for this hotel, and were pleasantly surprised. It's a fairly new property with nice amenities...swimming pool, fitness center and big rooms with comfortable beds. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the free breakfast is not too bad, especially this time of year, as they offer local peaches, apples and pears that are truly delicious. If you're familiar with Hilton's budget brand, Hampton Inn, this place reminds me of that. They're also making an attempt to save energy by installing these little key kiosks in each room. When you're in the room, you put your key in and can control the lights, TV and HVAC. Pull the key out and the little alarm goes off, and then everything shuts down, so when you're not in the room you can't waste electricity by leaving the lights/air conditioner/TV on. They'll give you 2 keys at the front desk, so on really hot/cold days, when you might want to have the temperature of the room kept constant, you can leave one in and control the air temperature. I like that they're making an attempt to save resources. Nice hotel at a great price.

Robin C.

Yelp
I'm going to give this Best Western 3 stars because of the noise. It's summer and there are tons of kids in the hotel - ceilings and walls are thin so you can hear above and below you. Other than that, the rooms are very nice, breakfast is what you would expect, and best of all the heat/AC system if great and turns off when you leave the room (it's a Green Hotel.) Nice Business Office and the option of having you room partially serviced. It's on the other side of the freeway, away from town which I also liked.

Janet F.

Yelp
We spent a night here while on a quick weekend trip to PA and really enjoyed this hotel! When I made the reservation I was a little worried because the person I spoke to on the phone seemed to be a complete airhead--I asked her if the hotel had jacuzzi suites, what types of beds they had (some Best Western's have the awesome Cloud 9 bed that rocks my world), and her answer was always, "uhhh... I don't know?" Despite that, I still went ahead and booked, I've never had a bad experience at a Best Western before. I'm glad that I did! They accepted my AAA card so I got a 10% discount on the room too. They were also prompt in giving me my Best Western Rewards points. The room was wonderful! The bed was super comfortable, the room was spotless, the furniture and TV were all brand new, there were no fewer than 10 free wifi networks we could connect to, the toiletries provided were from Bath & Body Works (so they smelled wonderful and were pretty high quality), and we were impressed with the thermostat system. To be a little bit "greener" when you're in the room you insert your key into the thermostat and then set the temperature to what you would like--then when you leave you take the key with you so they're not heating/cooling a room that no one is in excessively. I thought this was a really cool idea! The hotel had a small pool and very nice hot tub that we enjoyed thoroughly! The pool area had a number of tables and it wasn't uncomfortable to share with several other people also enjoying the amenities (I hate hotels where it's awkward when there's more than 5 people using these amenities). Breakfast was alright. They had all of the standard continental breakfast items with a few hot items and a waffle iron. I'd basically call it a continental plus breakfast. The staff there over the weekend was outstanding as well. Couldn't have asked for a more pleasant and accommodating staff. I would stay here again in the future if I needed a room in State College.

Yelp
My friends and I stayed in two rooms here while fishing over last weekend. The front desk staff were very accommodating, suggesting a suite instead of a roll away bed for the room that would be a three man room. The occupants in this room were staying two nights instead of one and the suite ended up being cheaper per night than the double room. The staff also worked to get our rooms as close together as possible so we could easily visit each other. The rooms are very large, clean, and outfitted with modern furniture and finishes. The continental plus breakfast was all that I could ask for with waffles, pancakes, eggs, breakfast meat, and potatoes, to go along with the typical continental breakfast foods. Location is conveniently located to Nittany Mall and for us Fisherman's Paradise where we were spending most of our time. I am bringing my wife back to this area for a weekend get away in April and will definitely stay at the Best Western Plus again.

Courtney L.

Yelp
Hotel was quite pricey. We enjoyed our stay, most staff was friendly and accommodating. The energy savor rooms is an extreme pain though. Your thermostat, fridge, etc. doesn't stay on unless you keep a room key in the box. The rooms were spacey and bathrooms were nice and seemed clean. They have chocolate bars and some necessaries for sale 24 hours at the front desk too.

Judy T.

Yelp
Stayed here May 2-4. Came in super late past midnight and the staff was very friendly and quick checking me in and getting me on my way. Lady at counter was very sweet and got me the toothbrush and waters I needed. Donovan at the counter was great as well. Gave me good recommendations of nearby brewery and restaurants. Breakfast was a great selection and included with the price. Loved the baskets of lillipops and made my day. Coffee, tea and hot water was always available. Very friendly as well. Will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I'm staying here for about 2 days and I've had a lot of good experiences. Although I have some little complaints. This one isn't as bad as the rest but the toilets are extremely loud. Then we have the heat in the room and it stinks to me at least my sister said that it smelled like cocoa beans. I thought it smelled like burnt eggs. Wifi is pretty decent, although it does kick me off after a while of getting on. Pretty decent amount of power outlets in the room. The height of the room is really good compared to other hotels in state college. Kind of too many pillows on the beds but that's fine. My favorite part of the room is the microwave and the mini fridge. It is really nice to be able to put things in a mini fridge instead of a cooler. Also near the front desk there is a cooler with Digiorno, mac and cheese, and other food items. I'm still giving this a four star from other reviews and my bad experiences. But other than that I'm definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
I recently was forced to stay here for a business trip when the hotel I normally stay at was sold out. First day was not so bad. Clean room. Dingy furniture and ugly rooms. It looks really dated in the rooms, which i find interesting since it's a newly built hotel. The hotel prides themselves on being green and Going Green. Well, apparently that means having the cleaning staff do NOTHING in the rooms. I would come back from work every day and the cleaning staff would make my bed....and that was it. They NEVER in the 5 days I was there emptied my trash. I never received new soap, shampoo or conditioner and if I used one towel and left it on the floor for them to replace it, they would just take the towel and not replace it, so by the end of the week I had one towel in the whole bathroom. The front desk was ALWAYS empty and there was no one there to assist. I used the workout room, which wasn't bad, except that the ceiling tiles were removed and the ceiling was dripping and leaking. The staff seems to consist of either poor college kids or poor high school kids who act and behave like children. I never saw someone over the age of 23 working. I will never stay there ever again.

Kim O.

Yelp
I stayed here for a work training 2 times and there was ALWAYS an issue.... This past time I noticed BLACK MOLD in the shower along the caulk.... It's disgusting and more importantly a health hazard!!!! I'm grossed out and will never stay here ever again!

Brandi T.

Yelp
I stayed with my husband last weekend for a quick overnight stay. My daughter was at Camp Woodward and we were staying overnight after a long drive from MA. We checked in around 11:45 pm and the front desk clerk was very friendly. I forgot my toothbrush and she provided one for me. Our room was great, very well designed, clean and the amenities were great! I loved the big comfortable bed. The shower head was way too far away from the wall so the water was spraying against the back wall of the shower and going onto the bathroom floor. I adjusted it as low as i could so there would be no puddle but that is the only thing I noticed that I would change. The breakfast was great and the servers were constantly cleaning and making sure the food was well stocked and hot. I would definitely stay here again.

Hs R.

Yelp
Great staff, clean, quiet comfortable room. The location is away from the college madness in downtown State College, but only minutes away from any point in State College or on campus. Highly recommend!!
