Definitely worth the visit - it’s a site to behold !

It is the one of the world and the first. and also amazing church and holy place forever.

Great place. A little hard on the feet though. Be prepared to walk on rocks in your stocking feet.

It is an impressive, rather special historic complex of rock churches. The crowds and the multiple times one has to take one's shoes off makes it hard work. The air quality is also rather poor in most rooms, which adds another level of discomfort. Still a "must see" even if you only take a flavor of it and don't bother with every church.

If you visit Ethiopia this is a must see place. You can do all 13 churches in 4 hours if you motivate your tour guide to not drag their feet (they insist on it taking 2 days). However the amount of sights you can see and things you can do is unbelievable - don't touch the 900 year old paintings as they won't stop you. Also admissions is $50 USD/person so be mindful of your ca$h.

Rock hewn churches. What an amazing place. You could spend a lot of time here wondering at the craftsmen who built /carved the church. There are few tourists and local guides have good English and knowledge. Try the .local food while you are there.
