Perfect for short stay, walking distance to Armenian Street yet quiet and cozy. Staff are kind and friendly, they serve tea to your room. The only downside is there is only one keycard for each room, and the front desk is not 24/7. Overall, a pleasant stay in a colonial/pre-war style building.

Beautiful hotel in the center of the town. The building is an old Chinese house, nicely renovated but still conserving the antique charm, with original pavements and walls and beautiful vintage furniture. Temperature in the room is perfect as both ceiling fan and AC. The bed is SUPER comfortable and everything is very clean. I loved the touch of the tea served around 17 if you are in the room, together with some local sweets. The price is super competitive.

We stayed at Betel Nut Lodge in Penang for three days and really enjoyed our time there. The owner is super friendly and genuinely wants to help – he gave us great local tips that made exploring the area much easier. They even offered a short coffee tasting in the morning. The location is perfect, close to everything but still quiet and relaxing. The rooms are simple, nothing fancy, but have everything you need and fit nicely with the lodge’s charming old-style vibe. Everything was clean and well maintained. With only six rooms, it feels very personal and cozy. Overall, a great spot if you want a comfortable, authentic stay in Penang. We’d definitely stay here again.

This was my first time staying at an old-style hotel. The staffs were mostly foreign workers with limited English, so communication took a bit more effort — we sometimes had to repeat ourselves to understand each other. That said, they were all very friendly, responsible, and careful in their service. I truly appreciate their effort. I stayed in Room A. Aside from the weak water pressure, I was satisfied with everything else. The location is great, with plenty of local food options and attractions nearby.

As described on the website, the building is old and also the interior of the building is old-fashioned. But the rooms have everything you need, and in fact I found the bed very comfortable and the airco very well (and quietly) functioning, so I had a really nice rest in this hotel. It's also very well situated, close to the Armenian street and other lively streets of the town. Only the breakfast is very basic (coffee and toast), and the staff is not always very communicative. But on the other hand, I received a tea and cake when I returned to my room in the late afternoon to fresh up, and also when leaving the hotel, I received a little package with a drink and cake, so that was very attentive.

Booked a 1 night stay here and it was so comfortable but expected the room to bit bigger for RM200+ per night but since the location of the hotel was good, its acceptable. Front desk person immediately assumed we were foreigners and asks for passport, therefore me and husband was very surprised, why there were asking for passport? Until i told asked why passport, i didnt bring and he just stood there blank then i had to explain that im local and he should ask if we are local/foreigner. Bed was so comfy, shower was okay, need improvement as the shower head keep sliding down when i was showering. Only had tea sachets instead of both coffee and tea but its okay cause i drink both. Otherwise all good for a short stay

We saw the good reviews but were still pleasantly surprised by how wonderful this lodge is! We stayed in the Frangipani room with two single beds. It was small but had everything we needed and was very clean. The AC worked very well. The street is not touristy and overall was quiet but had several places to eat across the street for breakfast/lunch. We booked directly on their website which I highly recommend for the best value, and they even included a small breakfast with local toast and jam, and tea. Every afternoon we came back to rest and they gave us tea and a sweet treat. Such a special place.

We had a pleasant stay here. The owners/staff were very hospitable, accommodating, friendly and very helpful. Our room was cleaned daily (by default) with fresh flowers (mostly orchids grown by the owner himself) to perk up the room. The Teaffin Cafe downstairs is where we could relax and have a good cuppa with cakes/pastries. Location is close to many local eateries. Should you need anything, just ask them and they will try their best to help/accommodate your request. Would we come back and stay again? YES, we definitely will!! Thank you Cheah, KC and staff of Betel Nut for a wonderful stay!
