Better Than Jam's STUDIO

Amazing workshop! Karin is an excellent educator, generous and thoughtful. Helps students with their projects and makes it fun. I have taken many of the classes offered and often more than once because every time I learn something new.

Karin's dye workshop at Better Than Jam Studio was so informative and fun. This is a great space to work in, the classes are kept small, and the one that I took offered excellent exposure to different fabric dying techniques. I highly recommend and will be doing more workshops here in the future.

I got so much out of the four-part Exploring Indigo and Shibori series. I have beautiful blue items that I made for my house, for my wardrobe, and for gifts (the gifts were so well-received!) Also, I’ve learned dying techniques that I’m already trying out on my own at home. I love the skills and history that Karin taught us, and the openness of the studio time. I would definitely do something like this with her again, and I highly recommend it.

Had so much fun taking Flora & Fauna Bundle Dye workshop. Karin is a great teacher and I walked away with inspiration and new knowledge! Highly recommend!

A friend and I took a Japanese shibori dying class recently and LOVED it. Karin was amazing! For many of us, this was our first experience with this type of art form, and Karin was so passionate about explaining the historical context as well as the execution styles. And then, we were on our own–to make art! It was wonderful to have her as a resource to ask questions about processes or ideas. (A human Google resource right in front of you!) I came home with 3 lovely pieces and am already looking forward to a future class at the studio. Can't recommend highly enough! DO IT!

The beginners shibori workshop at Better Than Jam Studio exceeded our expectations! Karin guided us through various techniques and shared insightful tips and tricks. She demonstrated a deep understanding of the intricate patterns, allowing us to explore our creativity while providing helpful guidance along the way. I took the beginner Shibori class with a friend. Karin was an excellent teacher! She went through the history, the process on making the dye, and then various techniques for patterns/designs. The class was so much fun! We will definitely be back for a different class!

My favorite handmade store in New York. I've been a fan of this place since her first shop in another part of Bushwick many years ago. With her new location, Karin, the owner, now has a studio space that you can rent out by the hour or monthly(!). This is such a great addition to the neighborhood because some apartments are so small that you don't have room to do anything, so being able to rent a space by the hour is so beneficial. She has facilities for screen printing, sewing and basic studio space. On the ground level there is a store made of up artists around New York. They have things for men, women and babies. T shirts, dresses, shirts, you name it. Handmade cards are available as well. Need supplies? Karin has it! You can get almost anything you need from here. If you don't see it, you can ask, as she or her employees will know where it is, or will order it for you. I love this new space so much and can't wait to take many of the classes and workshops that are being offered!! Check out the site!!

I worked out of Better Than Jam's coworking space for the last six months - and would have happily stayed longer if I wasn't moving because I loved it!!! This place is great, well stocked with equipment, and very reasonably priced for your own private office space, and the spaces themselves are larger than other places I looked before renting. Karin does a really great job running the place, she's always available at a moment's notice and always makes sure that the place is maintained and everyone has all that they need. The other artists in this space are so talented and such a pleasure to be around, so the community aspect of Better Than Jam is also a huge bonus. It's right off the L Train and super accessible, and in a hip part of Bushwick with lots of street art and good little places to grab food. I highly recommend this place, it was a really great part of my experience here in my final months in New York and I have zero complaints or regrets. I know as of this posting they've got some space available if you're looking.

Not only is the owner Karin a sweet person but she has a great eye, is a great print maker and I love all the handmade cool wearables, jewelry home/wellness and art supplies at this awesome Brooklyn shop. Truley a gem. Cool T shirts too. And super loyal to local makers/ the handmade side of things.

A lovely shop and workspace. I've gotten numerous handcrafted items from jewelry, clothing, housewares and gifts. Really is a neighborhood jewel. Not only can you support handmade and local goods but Better Than Jam offers classes and workshops to get you crafting. Love supporting small businesses and makers.

Great selection in local designers, always new product. Definitely go check them out!

We took a Shibori workshop with Karin and it was awesome. The studio is huge and clean and we learned a lot about the history of Shibori and many different techniques. I made three cool pieces and Karin was a great teacher. Thanks and I'll be back!
