On the Grid : Betty’n Caty

"Mixed china, rustic tables and mismatched chairs set the warm and friendly atmosphere of this quaint cafe. The brunch options are endless with multiple types of porridge, eggs, avocado toast and freshly baked pastries. Betty’n Caty is perfect to enjoy a juice by yourself or share a teapot with friends. Also very accommodating for English speakers, just give your best awkward smile and ask for the English menu." - Gabby Lord

This place is a fantastic spot for brunch, especially when the sun is out. The outdoor seating is beautiful, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a good meal. I went for the Korean fried chicken on a waffle—and wow, it did not disappoint! The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with the waffle. Definitely a standout dish. However, one thing really took away from the experience: they charge for tap water. After living in Berlin for six years, this is the first time I’ve encountered this, and it felt unnecessary, especially at a brunch spot that already isn’t cheap. If I’m paying €20 for a meal, it doesn’t make sense to be charged extra for tap water. Overall, the food is great, the atmosphere is lovely, and I’d absolutely come back—but charging for tap water is a bit of a letdown. If not for that, this place would be an easy 5 stars.

Was a little crowded on Sunday lunch time. Nice interior. An absolutely great service—I was surprised how friendly our waitress was. She brought water for the dog and was super kind. Their brownie was really good. 5 stars for the service!

2nd time this week we've been here (party of 2) and we'll be back! Yes, you might have to plan some extra time when it's crowded, but we got seated quite quickly both times. All waitresses are friendly, speak English but if you prefer German, there's always one available, too. Food is being prepared freshly and the taste is superb = worth the price. We recommend ALL of the freshly squeezed/blended juices, the poached eggs on toast, the bowls and the french toast! :)

After quite a while of waiting to visit this place for brunch, we were able to get a reservation (by phone) and go. Their menu has many interesting options and we decided on the eggs Benedict and bacon hash browns. Hash browns were amazing, but they are prepared more on the soft side rather than having a crunchy texture. Eggs Benedict were tasty, but I felt they didn’t have anything I couldn’t easily prepare in my house, additionally the eggs were a bit over cooked, as can be seen on the picture. Overall, the portions were on the smallish side compared to similarly priced brunch places. We ordered the affogato and was very good. Service was very kind, as well as the lady receiving people, but they forgot to bring us one of the desserts which we ended up cancelling. Overall a positive experience, food was tasty, it lets you make a reservation and the service is really good, but the servings could be a it bigger. Spent: €70 (3 mains, 3 drinks, 1 dessert)

Very cosy atmosphere and lovely service; friendly and warm people working here. We ordered scrambled eggs, eggs royal, poached eggs & avocado plus coffees, juices and French toast & waffle. Juices were delicious and refreshing, eggs, avocado & salmon were tasty but the bread was a bit stale - not the freshest. Desserts were delicious. The selection of cakes is really good. However, overall we paid 122 euro for the breakfast which is very expensive - there is a lot of hype around this place though which is probably why it is quite overpriced. However, it was a good experience with great service, good food, delicious selection of cakes and a cosy atmosphere. The only minus is the price which is too high considering the price of breakfast in Berlin.

A beautifully classic “English style” neighborhood cafe, with great breakfasts and awesome strawberry cheesecake! Large terrace on the sunny side of the street. Very friendly service, even if the kitchen was perhaps a bit on the slow side.

Such a cute cafe! I loved spending time there. Their latte was one of the best I had in Berlin, and it was huge! Avocado toast was also delicious, a bit on the pricier side (€12), but it was very filling. Would come here again on my next visit to Berlin!

Yelp
Wow! What an excellent find in Berlin! The decor and building is of a different era for sure with lovely architecture. The chickpea on toast was amazing with rocket, tomatoes and pesto. I also had a green juice that was freshly pressed to my specifications. There are a few specials too that looked great like spaghetti with eggplant "meatballs". Pastries looked wonderful as well as the specialty coffees. I will be going back tomorrow for my last meal in Berlin. It's that great! Staff very pleasant and accommodating. P.S., I have never left a Yelp review and am a total foodie. This place warrants my review.

Yelp
I really liked this place. I tried the açai bowl and avocado toast. The açai bowl isn't frozen like they normally are but it was still enjoyable and healthy tasting. The avocado toast with poached egg was simple yet delicious. I would like to try more one day

Yelp
Loved this place for breakfast! There's an adorable interior that feels super Parisian which little couches and pillows. The outdoor cafe is super cute as well. Loved the music and the vibes of the whole place. This is somewhere that you could grab breakfast with friends or sit and read a book for a few hours. I ordered the açaí bowl after seeing all of the beautiful photos and it was delicious. It's not frozen, like how açaí normally comes, but was still equally delicious. I ordered the large, although it was probably a hair too big for me. I needed my husband to finish it. He ordered the eggs with her, which were perfect cooked. And the croissant was melt in your mouth and so wonderfully flakey. Perfect little spot

Yelp
Good breakfast options, including avo and toast, english, and omelets. Pretty tight seating inside when it's cold unless you reserve or get lucky at a big round table. Without res expect to wait 10 min or so on a Saturday morning. Outdoor is where it's at!

Yelp
The food here tastes really good, the cheese cake, watermelon salad and the variety of coffees and shakes. However definitely a little pricey for Berlin and they only take card as payment.

Yelp
Pretty good choice of breakfast in Kolwitzkiez. The only disadvantage is unfriendly staff.

Yelp
Soooo delicious, we brunched there on a Sunday morning. You can go without a reservation but you have to be an early bird.

Yelp
I don't understand the hype. I ordered the avocado toast and was shocked. Bread was super dry and portion was tiny. It tasted like paper. Service was slow. So many great places around that area where you get excellent food. Avocado toast should not taste like that.

Yelp
Food was tasty, wait staff weren't great but it was the weekend, and we were speaking English. We couldn't get a table inside and they took awhile to come and take our order. Make sure you book a table if you want weekend brunch. Food 4/5 Atmosphere 4/5 Service 3/5

Yelp
Great coffee, tasty menu and lovely location. Menu is a little pricey for what you get but it is Prenzlauer Berg so that's to be expected. Love the toasties, best I've had in the area and more like what I'd have back in Australia! The smoothies and juices are fab too but a little expensive. Does attract many mothers with prams at morning tea and lunch time so come early to grab a seat! Super cosy inside in the winter -- cakes are fresh and delicious too :) I keep coming back!

Yelp
Every time I go to Berlin, this is my breakfast spot. The first time it was because my friend, whom I always stay with, suggested it, but now it's because it really is the best. If you know anything about German film, you'll see a lot of famous faces here. That's for a reason. Betty is THE best place for breakfast and morning juice. The scrambled eggs are outstanding and includes a choice of ham, prosciutto, etc. It's made to perfection every time I eat here. The juice kicks you in the head and wakes you right up. It's served in small bottles, too, so there's nothing wrong with appearance either. That goes for the whole place. Betty looks like an old lady who'll never fade. In winter she embraces you with warmth and pillows. In summer she lets you loose to fly. An absolute must if you're in the area.

Yelp
This is a very delicious place to eat. Freshly squeezed OJ and even though I hate seafood (especially raw seafood) the canary bread with scrambled eggs and salmon on top of it was delicious. Betty knows how to cook!!! I'm coming back for sure!

Yelp
Portions are small, food is fine but boring. The place is way overhyped. Good interior though
