What I asked for vs what I got, very very disappointed, she curled my hair so I didn’t notice until I came home and straightened my hair!!! The saddest part is that my hair was pretty long and she ruined it!

Google
There was lady guessing new talking her personal just wanted get my eyebrows wax. Gone here for while and before ladies was gentel actual know what they doing. This lady didn't tbh put me on those styling cape. Shirt full someone hairs now. Didn't even let finish my eyebrows no more only did the bottom clean up then put wax on top lip when just said just eyebrows, scraping my eyebrows to the point irradiated my skin just got up instead, hearing the other stylist gossiping about her in spanish calling her crazy.

Google
EXCELLENT!! Prices are very reasonable. I’ve been going to them for over 18 years. CTA transportation there is FANTASTIC.

Do NOT get your hair done with Asia. One star is too generous. I came in with bleach blonde hair requesting a touch-up. I wash a week later and the splotchiness came out after first wash. This IS NOT A REAL salon. Please save your money. They still charged me for this mess without offering any solution or way to fix it.

Wow I've been coming here for at least 20yrs on and off never had a haircut this bad . I showed this lil tiny Hispanic dude who doesn't speak a word of English a picture of me with the haircut I wanted. He says ok cuts my hair in a different style 1 that he chose and tells me that the haircut is done thru google translate on his phone I tell him no this isn't the cut I wanted and try to show him again a lady walks over and says that I just have to go home and comb it the way I wanted. She walks away I tell dude a few things to fix to try to make it a lil bit similar to the picture I showed him multiple times he takes out the scissors and makes 2 small cuts and says done. I tell him it's not what I wanted and say I was going to tip u 15-20 but you don't seem to understand or actually know how to cut hair so I walk to the front tell them and they say next time someone else will cut my hair. Wow worst experience over ever had here! Anyone going here do not get your haircut by the Lil skinny Spanish young dude that's usually in chair 16 he doesn't know how to cut hair and refuses to cut your hair the way u want !!!!

Yelp
Service was quick...i took my niece and nephew. Both were happy as was I. Our barbers were easy to talk to and talkative. Vibe waiting was business...getting my hair cut was relaxing.

Yelp
A few weeks ago I was out of town and needed a quick haircut, and figuring this place didn't look too bad and was relatively close, I decided to visit. When I walked in, the guy in the front desk told me to go to seat 15. I walked over and it looked fairly normal. I asked for a mid taper and he got to work. The equipment is not properly cleaned. I could see the shavings of the previous people's hair stuck to the clippers. Also, the equipment is not stored well either. Most of the equipment is left out messily on the counter or in open drawers. The haircut itself wasn't too bad. The taper was a bit too high, and it was also a bit uneven. Fortunately, I was able to make it look somewhat presentable by combing it back and using products. For 15 bucks, the place isn't too bad. There are definitely some hygenic concerns with the equipment, and the haircut did look a bit janky. I was lucky because in my case the haircut was salvageable, but it definitely could have gone worse.

Yelp
It's the worst place to go get a hair cut I just went there the lady there doesn't know how to do that and the dumb guy at the chair #1 he not even wants to work he should stay home for real ,for me the place sucks.

Yelp
DO NOT get your hair COLORED by ASIA. talked the whole time about the process and was literally trying to fix my roots at the hair-washing sink. read the room I just didn't want to talk. her talking the whole ENTIRE TIME was a sign she was not confident at all. I came in with BLEACH BLONDE hair. she made it literally brown I was obviously upset at the end and in tears but nothing was her fault. it was the lighting of the photo, my fault for picking the colors wrong, photoshop, etc. manager at least gave me a break for the original cost but it wouldn't hurt if he was a little more compassionate. I asked asia if she wanted to see the picture again and showed her many times but she continued to blame me for not getting the desired results. please save your money and go somewhere else. I was going to give this place 2 stars but realized it's too generous. asia, if you see this, next time apologize instead of convincing a client you did no wrong. it's okay to mess up, but obviously its not okay for you, so instead of a genuine apology and offering a solution / calming words you just get frustrated and complain about the four hours you spent messing up my hair. and I still tipped you.

Alex G.

Yelp
Service was great and the haircut was exactly what I asked for. Laid back professional shop!

Yelp
I have wondered about the salon after having walked past many times. I finally went inside today with my autistic adult client, as he was in need for a trim. He was very apprehensive, since he cherishes his long hair! The stylist at booth 14 early Friday afternoon on June 3 proved to be the perfect person for the job. Her no-nonsense approach to the trim was the perfect manner in which to deal with my client's apprehension. What struck me about the place was how many style stations they have and how busy they were. They seem to run like a well-oiled machine and would be good for a basic cut. Personally, I don't know that I'd go in during busy times if I wanted to overhaul my own style. I would worry about a rushed experience and not feeling comfortable enough to talk in detail about the changes I have in mind.

Yelp
I've been getting haircuts here often over the years and always get a nice fade hair cut at a good price. The barbers always make me feel comfortable and the location is great

Yelp
So I'm 7 days away from my graduation and my mom tells me that I should get a haircut and so my family takes me to this location and upon entering i'm asked to go to the lady at 12. So upon making my way there I tell her that I'm trying to go for this certain style of hair, and I show her the references but initially she tells me that by the looks of my hair it already was similar to the style in the video (despite it being drastically different). And so I take a seat and I tell her to keep the length of my hair but to also cut some parts of the sides as they have been becoming really messy and uneven. So as she's cutting my hair she disregards everything I've told her and gives me a style that was virtually nothing like what I showed or anything I even mentioned for that matter. At the end she succeeded in her mission of butchering my hair and as a result I basically wasted months of growing out my hair only for half of it to be cut off. Needless to say I am never coming here again, and I may as well have gotten a buzzcut if I knew that my hair would look this awful afterwards. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're going for something simple like an easy fade or buzzcut because that seems to be what they're all familiar with.

Yelp
These stars are strictly for Ahmed. He is the only barber who does an amazing job with my 4 year old. All other Barbers here decline taking little kids and ignore customers if you try to request them. Ahmed is so welcoming and he also does amaizing with my sons fades.

Yelp
I went to the Skokie Betty & Nick's location once and was very unsatisfied w/the service. I haven't been back there. I have been going to the location @ Montrose & Kimball. Both times I have been there the ladies cutting my hair have been personable and have done a great job cutting my hair. The last time I had Ophelia she was very personable, a Bears fan and a foodie. We talked about Da Bears & how her and her son bet on the game with the loser having to take the winner out for a meal. Well I went in today and asked for Ophelia. Of all the nerve Ophelia was on vacation so I got a different person, Sonia. OMG as soon as Ophelia is gone I find another woman. Sonia was also very personable w/a good sense of humor. I found out she has worked at this location for 19 years and has 2 kids. I didn't believe her because she looked so young. Anyhow I have had 2 good experiences at this location so when it comes time to get my haircut again I will go back there. Now I have 2 GO To ladies to get my haircut

Yelp
Great place to get eyebrows done - highly recommend Dita. She is amazing. She communicates well to schedule appointment. They clean down well between customers

Patrick V.

Yelp
Number 7, Asia does very good hair cuts. The best. Every time I go it is always really good.

Mary Jean S.

Yelp
First time here and Dita cut my hair. Cut is PERFECT!! I like a short layered hair cut and for over 5 years I haven't had a good hair cut--until yesterday. Thank you Dita--will be back in 4-6 weeks.

Yelp
Yelp just informed me that businesses are doing their best during COVID and that I should keep that in mind. Their best would mean keeping their masks on, but the girl at the front desk is walking around with the mask on her chin. Noses are hanging out of 50% of the stylists' masks. I brought my aunt for her first haircut since the pandemic started and she's at risk so this is extremely frustrating. Don't worry though, they're selling masks just in case you need one to what...protect them? Unsure since they apparently don't understand how they work. I get it, we get to make the choice to come here, but either don't wear masks or stop pretending. Hoping this info helps others in making decisions of where to go. The lady in seat 1 wore her mask the whole time and was lovely. Glad she was our stylist.

Elham A.

Yelp
I went here as a teenager and now I send my teenagers for their cuts! Best price in town and great people!
google avatar

Araceli C.

Yelp
I have years coming here for my haircut and eyebrows whit wax Since was $5 for a haircut Im back now on this covid 19 era Now haircut is $10 Not a problem thanks to the lady that took care of me see you soon mandatory wear a mask

Melissa H.

Yelp
I took my 10 year old son here never again. He is handicapped in a wheelchair he was denied a haircut by three people. One said he didn't have experience in cutting kids hair which was a lie. I called to talk to the owner she said they have the right to refuse services to anyone he wanted to. Then asked what I wanted from them I didn't want anything but a apology never got that. She was swearing at me also. I'll take my business elsewhere. They discriminated my 10 year old son
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
The photos speak for themselves. There's no excuse for butchering hair this badly. I should've demanded a refund, but I didn't. I tipped instead. What I wanted was a simple undercut. The stylist who worked on me apparently has 30 years of haircutting experience.
google avatar

Mateo G.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I definitely would. Stopped in for a fade with a lining and this is the bs that I ended up with. I explained to the front desk about my lining and the woman stated I had a lining. she apparently doesn't know anything about hair cause as you can see in my picture my lining is off and my lining was pushed WAAAYYYYYY FAR BACK
google avatar

Yelp
Nice people, good haircut for the price. There is a little bit of wait, if you go to the Montrose location.
google avatar

Ariton K.

Yelp
Friendly and professional just make sure you take care of the barber and you won't be disappointed:)
google avatar

Yelp
I have been going to the Betty & Nicks on Montrose for years Veno #23 has always done my eyebrows and I never walk out unhappy. She is like part of my family now only going to the same person for years who understands how your eyebrows should look for your type of face is amazing. I bring my kids with me and they always love just talking to her. Now I will say I've read a lot of these other reviews and everyone is entitled to their opinions but come on people can't complain when your paying $7 for a haircut. You want a better one go to the shops that charge $20 or more. Heck for woman at a real salon it's over $40 for a haircut so don't be mad. They are professionals at Betty & Nicks but they have to work fast that's what that place is known for getting you in the chair and out the chair. Just saying sorry for being vocal about it but I've never had a bad experience here no rudeness no long wait time.
google avatar

Adriana G.

Yelp
I been coming here for at least 16 years, I found a lady that really knows how to do my eyebrows and my hair , I have try other places but she is my favorite, I only come here because of her , not saying there is more good ones here but I like how she does my hair and eyebrows
google avatar

Edgar R.

Yelp
Absolute worst place! Benjamin was awful! Super rude! He took maybe 5 minutes tops on my hair... he completely messed it up and after I asked him to fix it he kept making rude remarks. I'm so mad I decided to stop in. Now I have to wait for my hair to grow out so I can get it fixed. DO NOT COME HERE! Pay an extra 10 bucks to get your hair cut properly.

D P.

Yelp
Just go my boy his back to school cut. Luv the fade styles at Betty and Nicks. My son Cleo is so happy with the cut. They take their time and really give you da treatment

Michael M.

Yelp
I've been going to this lady who I actually liked the way she cut my hair and I was seeing her for over 10 years but the last time I went there the place is no longer open. I guess she retired. So I was looking around for a new place to get a haircut as I'm very picky about it and I've tried three or four different places just didn't click with me so I thought why not try Betty and Nick's. I drive by them all the time so I thought I'd give them a try and I'm glad I did. I don't know his name but the guy in the first station was really good and fast. He was great with a scissor cut. And you can't beat their prices. Yes I definitely recommend this place

Robert F.

Yelp
Terrible business practices. They will tell you that they are open but when you arrive the guy at the desk gives you the axe. Has happened 3 times to me

Kris K.

Yelp
I don't recommend this place my son was there and they didn't give him a haircut if you don't tip the barbers , they ask you before you sit in the chair how much you will tip. This is terrible.

Araceli P.

Yelp
Never again! Messed up my hair. Lady just started cutting without wet hair. Used a razor to "straighten the tips" which I later had to fix at home. My hair was so crooked and did not do the cut I had asked for. Definitely do not recommend!!

Robert K.

Yelp
First time there today, 10/12/21. Quick and easy. Arrived before noon on a Tuesday, no waiting for #5. Good haircut and a good price - $10, plus a tip. I'm sure I'll be going back. Off-street bike parking available. Several good posts to lock up your bike.

Aiden B.

Yelp
Well this place is very dirty and this person messed up my son hair my son got bumps on the back of his head and this place has roach and rats I seen them one rat ran across my son feet so if anyone in the area wants to to come to this location don't please

Rose B.

Yelp
I would like to start by saying that, I have been coming to this location for a very long time and this past Sunday I felt very uncomfortable and discriminated by one of the workers there. I believe he was number 16 or 17. He was talking very bad about lgbtq and the flag. He was talking very loud and saying unpleasant things where everyone in the salon could hear him. I know we live in a country where we have freedom of speech but the way he expressed himself was very hurtful to me. I have always felt welcome but he destroyed that for me. After Sunday , Betty's and nicks lost a very loyal customer. That guy needs to get a warning by his manager and taught how to respect people in a place of work.!
google avatar

Yelp
Five dollar haircut is the new five dollar footlong. I can't get in to see my hairdresser until Christmas, so I dropped in for a trim. Five. Five. Five dollar hairrrrrcuuuut (ber ner na ner). There are no joke more than sixty hair cutting stations in here, roughly estimating six seats arranged around about ten poles. I would say 95% of the people in there on that rainy Tuesday afternoon were men. A woman from the back noticed me, my gender, and my long hair from waaaaay across the room and motioned me back. It was just what I needed, a trim that evened out my layers until I can get the real deal in my favorite salon. Five stars for the five dollar haircut. One star for the five dollar eyebrow job. I looked like my boss's jack-o-lantern -- two elongated triangles pointing downward in hastily awkward anger. Sing it with me! Five.... FIVE....
google avatar

Zubair K.

Yelp
I realized that the place I trusted for many years has changed its business from serving any customer to empowering their barbers to selective pick individuals and either service or reject them without any discretion. Example - if someone you prefer is not available the next time you go, other barbers refuse you and it has happened a couple of times, leaving a very bad experience and taste for me. I find it rude, distasteful, and partly a bit of a rude awakening. Although it is at the end of the day a $5 dollar haircut, I used to come here because of growing up in the neighborhood but sadly it's not the same as it used to be.
google avatar

Cely R.

Yelp
Table 21 Rude lady spray the water in my face, pulling my hair like unhappy worker then doing eye brown w/wax she was fast like 5 dollar service haaaa then and the end said marry Christmas like don't forget mi tip..... I will not hey that's your job lady from table 21

Jack J.

Yelp
Just got my fresh cut!!! 10/10 would recommend anyone who needs a fresh fade after quarantine!!!
google avatar

Eva D.

Yelp
I've been going here for years! Great value! My cuts are always great when I see Zara!! You can't beat a $7 haircut!!
google avatar

Jin V.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Horrible parking. At least 2 of the staff showed attitude right in front of manager. Refused to cut a kids hair from #1 fade to long comb over. Long wait. Ayyad across street is much friendlier for same price.
google avatar

Jan S.

Yelp
I have been going to the Montrose location for many years. I never came out with a bad haircut. I just let them cut it and seldom make suggestions as I know that they are all skilled in what they do and they know what's up to date and which cut works on me. All very skilled at their craft. Whenever I receive comments and compliments on my cuts I always recommend this shop! I will keep coming back and I always feel confident when I leave too.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
11:00 - 11:01 Me: I'd like a haircut please (guy looks around) Guy: Have a seat right there 11:01-11:02 Stylist: How do you want your hair cut? Me: Take it all of with a #1 11:02 - 11:11 I receive my haircut 11:11 - 11:13 I put on my jacket, give the stylist a tip and pay $5 for my haircut Less than 15 minutes after I walk in I am leaving looking good! This is my new spot forever and ever. My message to you is don't shop around just go here again and again. Don't argue with me or give me any of your objections - Just do it!
google avatar

Yelp
For guys who want a simple haircut, go to Betty & Nick's. It's the home of the $5 haircut! It's popular with families in Albany Park, and you'll see long lines here on weekends. I noticed that women are usually sent to the basement and the men on the main floor. Not sure why, but it's been like that for as long as I can remember. Ladies, they do offer $5 eyebrow waxing and threading. Eh.... I tried waxing once (don't do it) and threading a few times. There was a lady who used to do my threading, who was very good and consistent, but she's no longer there. I tried someone else after she left and it wasn't the same. Overall, it's cheap, fast, and mainly for men and children who want simple haircuts.
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SERVICE. I got a perm done here a couple days ago and they completely ruined my hair. All I wanted was some body to my hair and now I look like a damn poodle. I honestly am too embarrassed to even go outside. The lady who did the perm had absolutely NO idea what the hell she was doing. Too bad I didn't figure that out until after she had put the solution in my hair. I sat in that place for almost 3 hours as this lady stood there and ruined my hair. I also mentioned to them that I, in no way, wanted my hair cut and the lady cuts my hair very uneven to try to fix the mess she left of my hair. They're prices are cheap but the service is horrible. While I was in there, at least 12 other people were complaining about their haircuts. Hairdressers answer their phones while doing your hair, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! Yeah, the prices here are great but everything else about this place sucks. Worst hair experience of my life. I will never go here, they obviously just hire anyone who says they know how to cut hair. Definitely wish I could just go back in time and never even walk into that place.
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
Home of the $5 haircut. Crowded, chaotic, crazy and awesome. I've been trimmed, threaded, waxed and colored (a fix-it for an at-home disaster that I created) here. If you go downstairs to the basement, it's less crowded down there, usually. When you have long, straight hair that just needs the ends trimmed, why pay more?
google avatar

Caley R.

Yelp
My God. I reallllly did not want to go to this place. I'm very sensitive about my hair and I've left many salons crying because they fucked it up. Well it has been a while since I've cried over my hair, I still get nervous every time I get a cut. The guy at the front desk asked me what I needed and had me sit down in a chair. The place was pretty busy although i've seen it packed a lot deeper than it was this night. (It was a weeknight around 8). I noticed one barber TALKING ON THE PHONE while cutting dudes hair. I waited for about 10-15 minutes for a chair and this guy answered his phone 2 or 3 times. I would have snapped if that happened to me. When I was called the lady knew I needed my eyebrows threaded and a cut. My hair was super greasy and I was expecting her to wash it before she cut it. Nope. I guess they don't do that here. I asked for just a few inches off to get rid of the dead ends and I forget exactly what I said but I mentioned having it layered. She said I didn't have layers so she was just going to give me a trim. I was a little thrown off when she said that but I was just too tired to care at this point. She cut my hair in like 5 minutes and I wasn't really impressed. Then she did my eyebrows. I've had threading before but damn this shit was painful! I've never had anyone do it so hard before. I just kept telling myself this is what you get for paying five dollars. My eyebrows look good, although L and E Salon does do a little better of a job for only 8 dollars. I wasn't impressed by my cut until last night when I straightened it for the first time since I got it cut a few weeks ago. It looked awesome! It looks cut perfectly straight and although it's not layered my (drunk) friend kept saying how nice and layered it looked. I'm poor and you're ten minutes away. I'll be back. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Yelp
I haven't got my haircut for this cheap since I was back in H.S. in WV, but a hair cut's a haircut. If you have pretty basic hair (I usually go #3 on the side and #4 on the top), nothing beats this place. However, if you have a faux hawk, they'll probably laugh you back to Enclave. The experience is worth it... there might have been 50 people in the shop when I went, plus 20+ stalls for haircuts, coloring, etc. You 'check-in', tell 'em what you want, and they tell you what # barber you go to. Feels very factory like, but I'm sure you can request a barber. I was in and out with in 15 mins; that included a straight razor and scissors on top that ended up not being short enough.. so on came the clippers. Tipped him $2. Check in guy called me 'buddy'. I love that. Total price: $7. As good or better than my $28 cut at State Street.
google avatar

Vallia K.

Yelp
Amazing! For 10$ plus tip I got a great haircut and my eyebrows threaded. It is a no bs type of place, but very efficient and the woman who cut my hair (station #7 right by the door) was professional and talented. I don't like to be babied or to make a big deal out of my trips to hair salons, so this is pretty much my ideal. If you do prefer that sort of thing, this might not be the place for you. I will be returning, though. I was told sometimes there is a bit of a wait if you go during peak hours (assuming evenings and weekends) but I was immediatly seated upon arriving, and in&out within 35 minutes. Also, they do not take credit cards, but there is an atm inside.

Yelp
My hair is not even i have long hairs everywhere and my lining is all messed up it sucks but ill pay a real professional next time.

Yelp
The fastest & cheapest haircut I have ever received... and it was good! Unreal deal. $5 even, no tax. Amazing.
