First and last time we were at Betty's was well over three decades ago. The food was amazing, but the price was too blue for our blood. But what do you expect when you were still high school age? Any meal that costs more than $3-$4 was too blue for our blood! Was the food worth it? Yes, it certainly was!
Still in the same location after all these years, Betty's Soulfood Restaurant has a blue paint scheme and new layout. Inside, we were greeted warmly. Betty's is a friend and family restaurant, and has ample seating to let everyone know they are welcome to stay a spell. No servers constantly checking on you to see if you are finished, so they can rush you out, get their tip, and then seat their next customer(s).
Betty's actually cooks their food. No heat lamps. So when you order, be prepared to wait for it. We once read a restaurant sign that stated [to paraphrase] fast food isn't good food, and good food isn't fast.
We had two simple breakfast orders, and when they arrived, they were in immaculate condition! Everything was perfectly placed, and the homemade biscuits were outstanding! We expected simple biscuits not fluffy ones that resembled cornbread, and tasted like heaven!
Let it be known, resident culinary celebrity, Ms. Betty, was there! She is still active, making sure everyone and everything runs smoothly. It is always a pleasure to see an owner who is still involved with the day-to-day operations. Many restaurant owners go from cooks to management, and don't look back.
Whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Betty's Soulfood Restaurant is a once place you should drop by one day. And if you haven't dropped by in a while, as was our case, do yourself a favor, and come back now, ya hear!
