I had a fantastic experience at Betty Soulfood today! The food was absolutely delicious, and the flavors were rich and comforting. Our server was incredibly polite, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The warm and welcoming atmosphere only added to the overall experience. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend Betty Soulfood to anyone looking for great food and excellent service!

The food was great! The young lady who seated us was really nice. After we got our food the chef checked on us. My husband and I were here for vacation. We always look for a local soul food restaurant when we travel. And Betty’s did not disappoint. We will return the next time we are in town.

I stopped by for a take out order for lunch today 04-08-24 within twenty minutes of close time. I was still offered the option to dine in. The veggie plate came with four sides. I ordered fried okra, green beans, mac & cheese, and yams; it came with cornbread. It crossed my mind to try the banana pudding, but the only desserts were red velvet, chocolate, & pound cakes. The lady who took my order also went into the kitchen to help Ms Betty get some orders out. When she brought my order out, she explained that she used separate containers to keep my food from spilling while I was traveling; it was appreciated. I enjoyed the okra & yams the most. The green beans, mac & cheese, and cornbread were just ok. The countertop where I sat needed to be wiped down.

My mama sent me here. She raved about the turkey. She was so right. This food right here. This food right here! Cha.... Everything is cooked to order, slow food as it's called. So take ya fast food mindset somewhere else. Sit have some conversation feel the community and enjoy ya self. You will be taken care of. We ordered 3 meals, cake, and drinks togo. I got a chance to meet Ms. Betty. Now if you ain't never dined in an Black owned Women owned business there are universal rules of love. Speak when you enter the room, address others with respect and you will also be loved. Step out of line and you will be addressed. I enjoyed my time in this space and will visit again. I love my people.

I'm gonna start by saying that visiting Betty's Soul Food in Ft. Lauderdale was on my must list coming all the way down from New York. Ms. Betty's did not disappoint, and we got to see and say hello to her as she was in the back really cooking HER soul food! The moment we walked in we were told to have patience, (lol) meaning get comfortable it's soul food not fast food... So 5 stars for the honest service... The place was no thrills, and I loved it... I really had a hard time deciding on the fried porkchop or the fried chicken... I went with the chicken, it had the most perfect crunch, I WAS SO HAPPY!!!! & the okra, potato salad with mustard (never mayo again) the mac & cheese, YES PLEASE!!!! Ms. Betty we need you here, with love from New York!

The service by Gladys and Mrs. Betty was nothing short of superb. They provided exceptional customer service. The food was seasoned perfectly and presentation was great! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Great tasting soul food. Plenty of choices of food on the menu. Fried or grilled meat choices. Great pricing. Clean and friendly environment. I had the fried pork chops with yellow rice, mac and cheese with potato salad. Will go back again and try the desserts.

Yelp
Must be a neighborhood staple. I watched folks come and got to go orders. So that said a lot. However, the place was out of a lot of what was on the menu. Our server Jessica was so cool and truthful, which we appreciated. So she is the best thing happening there. With her sense of humor, it made the dining experience bareable. Once the food came, it was ok. Could have been hotter (temp). Batter for the pancakes was old, and ribs were so tough could not eat them. Collard greens were good, and the uams were really good. Fried chicken was good, and hot cornbread was really good. What did come out was tasty, but as I mentioned, heat was missing, and cooking time could have been longer for some items. Visiting from California, it was an experience, but my recommendation would be to stock up and have it available. Most of what was on the menu was not available. Four stars for the server 2 for the restaurant. The venue was ok. Old school dining area but clean.

Yelp
Decided to stop here for breakfast before getting back on the highway to head home. This place is an intimate, black owned, hole in the wall spot tucked within the neighborhood. When we arrived it was pretty busy with about five tables seated and two people sitting at the counter. There was consistently people in and out picking up to-go orders. We were greeted by a pleasant hostess/waitress and told to pick our own seats she'd be with us shortly. Our orders were taken and as we waited we were brought extra napkins. I ordered the chicken and waffles (all wings) and a sweet tea. There is an additional charge of $2-$3 for all white meat or all dark meat. I did want to try to lemonade or fruit punch but they were out of both for the day. Wait time was normal for cook to order soul food. Everything arrived to our table hot and fresh. I'm honestly mad I didn't take pictures BEFORE we dug in. The chicken was seasoned so well and the skin was so crispy. My waffle was the perfect portion size and the powdered sugar complimented it well. My son loved the bacon and homemade biscuits and I couldn't leave without a sweet tea to go. Can't wait to return to try the fried fish.

Yelp
Run don't walk to Betty's. Friendly greeting upon entering. Fried chicken cooked to order I had mashed potatoes. Mac n cheese. Collard Greens, Cornbread and a single Rib with Fruit punch to drink. Had enough for 2 1/2 meals. Fried chicken comes with rice of your choice: white, yellow, or rice n peas or mashed potatoes. Add 2 sides. Constantly being checked on. Clean atmosphere with gospel music filling the air. 10 out of 5 stars. I see why Janet Jackson ate here 4 days in a row.

Yelp
BABYYYYYYY!! It will take me 2 days to eat all of this food but trust and believe I will finish every last bite. Ms Betty served me and she's always so personable like visiting Auntie's house. Just what I needed on a Sunday afternoon some home cooking left me feeling like I received a warm hug. Thank you Ms Betty for making my day. It's the little things.

Yelp
Saddens me to say, but after going here for maybe 25 years, today was the last time I go. The whole thing was a shitshow. We walked in and only one other table was occupied. A few takeout customers were there and a couple more came in over the next 40 minutes we sat. The staff were arguing loudly and the server who had seated us walked out. I mean quit. 10 minutes later someone else came to take an order. We were brought water and cornbread in a reasonable amount of time, as well as a soft drink for my friend. Another 20 minutes later his lunch came out, with white instead of yellow rice, but he ate it. Mine didn't come. 10 minutes passed and nothing. Remember, no one was there at this point but us. The other table was finished. The 4 or 5 takeout orders were gone. The second server came over to apologize by explaining the sides were on the plate they were just waiting on the chicken. 5 more minutes and I cancelled and said I didn't want cold sides sitting there and my friend was done. Instead, the well meaning but disorganized owner brings out 3/4 of my order in a takeout box, no charge. This was nice but thoughtless, as if I wanted takeout I'd have asked for it. I just spent 45 minutes for nothing. I tasted the sides. They were good. Yams and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken was a drum stick and two pieces that were not easily identifiable as they were cut up badly. While hot and crisp, the chicken was tough and rubbery. Publix is way better, as is Popeyes or any of a dozen other places. Every aspect of this place was off. Very disappointing and ruined my memory of a good neighborhood find.

Yelp
I absolutely love Betty's Soul Food Restaurant! The soul food here is delicious, truly top-notch and bursting with flavor. Ms. Betty is not only kind and wonderful, but she also brings a special warmth to the place, making everyone feel like family. The interior is cozy and inviting, perfectly reflecting the heart and soul put into every dish. And let's not forget about the staff--especially Jessica, who is an absolute star! Everyone here makes sure you have the best experience. Highly recommend for anyone craving genuine, heartwarming soul food. #BlackOwned #SupportLocal #SoulFoodHeaven

Yelp
First and last time we were at Betty's was well over three decades ago. The food was amazing, but the price was too blue for our blood. But what do you expect when you were still high school age? Any meal that costs more than $3-$4 was too blue for our blood! Was the food worth it? Yes, it certainly was! Still in the same location after all these years, Betty's Soulfood Restaurant has a blue paint scheme and new layout. Inside, we were greeted warmly. Betty's is a friend and family restaurant, and has ample seating to let everyone know they are welcome to stay a spell. No servers constantly checking on you to see if you are finished, so they can rush you out, get their tip, and then seat their next customer(s). Betty's actually cooks their food. No heat lamps. So when you order, be prepared to wait for it. We once read a restaurant sign that stated [to paraphrase] fast food isn't good food, and good food isn't fast. We had two simple breakfast orders, and when they arrived, they were in immaculate condition! Everything was perfectly placed, and the homemade biscuits were outstanding! We expected simple biscuits not fluffy ones that resembled cornbread, and tasted like heaven! Let it be known, resident culinary celebrity, Ms. Betty, was there! She is still active, making sure everyone and everything runs smoothly. It is always a pleasure to see an owner who is still involved with the day-to-day operations. Many restaurant owners go from cooks to management, and don't look back. Whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Betty's Soulfood Restaurant is a once place you should drop by one day. And if you haven't dropped by in a while, as was our case, do yourself a favor, and come back now, ya hear!

Yelp
I asked for cheese on my grits and it was stuck to the paper so that ruined my whole meal. The grits weren't thick per usually instead watery. The wings smelled of oil. The portions are getting smaller but price has since increased at least twice since I've been a customer. I waited over an hour for my food after pre ordering over the phone & it still wasn't ready. And I wanted my biscuit but they offered me to toast even after I informed them I would return. The pleasantries of the cashier and cooks are always superb as it was today but for my inconvenience there was something that could have been done even offering me a cup of water. Betty's isn't what it use to be at this point it's just convenient.

Yelp
Has roaches all over restaurant. And service was lousy, place needs, kitchen to be throughly cleaned and the staff retrained ,because of health valuations with dept.of health issues

Yelp
Oh my goodness! Everything about Betty's was and is the best decision EVER I've made for dinner! Service is top tier! Ambiance is family style and incredibly welcoming! Betty is a beautiful woman and a joy to have met! I'll be back!

Yelp
THE BEST SOUL FOOD IN WHOLE FLORIDA! "Samiches" are amazing! I usually order all the sides lol! aı can't help it they are sooooo good. Long Live Our Queen Betty!

Yelp
Nothing upsets me more than a business that doesn't have proper management and upkeep especially on the website. Online it says the business is open Monday from 6:00-6:00. I drove aaaaall the way down here hoping for some breakfast and cant get any. Why? because they're closed Mondays. There is a tiny sign in sharpie on the entrance door. Smfh please do better.

Yelp
WOW. Was visiting from California and I think I found one of the best smothered turkey wings out. I got to meet Ms. Betty herself and the staff were cracking jokes and just made us feel at home. If I'm ever back in Florida I MUST get back to Betty's soulfood restaurant. HIGHLY RECCOMEND.

Ashley M.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of finding soul food in South Florida at Ms. Betty's. Nestled in a historical Black neighborhood, this restaurant is easy to find with plenty of parking. We came for breakfast and enjoyed chicken and waffles and a salmon croquette meal with grits and eggs. We went back the next morning and grabbed biscuits since there were no more left for the day. The home fries were my favorite.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp while looking for a good soulfood spot. We were greeted and seated right away. Ms. Betty herself came to bring silverware and take our order. Nice older lady who still got it to service customers. There was much to choose from on the menu. I didn't know if I wanted turkey wing or oxtail. Ms. Betty assured me the oxtail was the best choice. All meals come with rice and two sides. So we chose mac n cheese and yams. My s/o added a bowl of blackeye peas as a third side. The food was flavorful but needed a tad bit more seasoning. The portions are decent sized. But just like the day before, the food was served luke warm. This type of food is served best hot. The cornbread was warm and not dried out. They keep bringing it out as you eat. The lemonade was the bomb! Ask for extra ice as it is a little sweet. No frills decor here. Just a plain diner with a small amount of seating. They also have a counter. We thanked Ms. Betty for her hospitality and said our goodbyes. Stuffed like a tick.

Amanda H.

Yelp
This was my second attempt to order from this restaurant. They have a great reputation and loyal customers. However, both of my orders were incorrect and missing items. Disappointing.

Yelp
This was my first and unfortunately last visit here ... my friend & Sat down for a good thirty mins without receiving a menu we had to get up and get one .... We ordered fried fish , grits , & eggs .... We watched people come in & get their food we waited a good hour plus . We only got an orange juice & apple juice which came up to 10.60 ... 5 dollars for apple or orange juice at this establishment is extremely crazy ...... never received food at all & the place wasn't packed ...

Glenn T.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food and Miss Betty was so so nice but it was kind of pricey and the wait time was extremely long but the people were so so nice to me and my family so yes I would recommend this place
google avatar

Yelp
A neighborhood stalwart and staple. The original signs, original store, original owner and no frills. I tell you, it's way off the beaten path, but it's worth seeking out. Party of 7, middle of the day on Friday. Famished from travel. Not only were we fed, but we were also entertained by Miss Dot (amazed that I remember her name!) I had the oxtail meal and fried chicken gizzards. Even the cornbread, normally of which am not a fan, gets honorable mention. The food was solidly appetizing, but a little mouse and its antics had us cracking up! Dunno, but this mouse did not deter anyone. He was just a member of the local fauna, hanging out. We were rolling with laughter. For future reference on my next trip down south. Thank you Ms. Dot and the rest of the staff for the awesome service, entertaining banter and just for being you!

Latrice M.

Yelp
food service girl that is working around this time 9:03am on the 29th is bad I've been sitting here for almost 30mins & still haven't got a menu

Michael L.

Yelp
The quality of the food has gotten progressively worse Last time I was there all I could smell was the dumpster
google avatar

Katrella S.

Yelp
Just old school food. Wasn't sure my gps was leading me the right way as I traveled down this residential neighborhood. Bettys is in what could be considered an old convenience store. Service is fast if you know what you want but if you have to look at the menu you'll get missed. I ordered the salmon croquettes, grits, eggs, toast and a waffle for my side kick. I really enjoyed the food as I felt I was eating at my cousin or older family members home.

Yelp
No frills diner serves up good food. Arriving on the redeye and looking for a cozy place thats A. open and 2. has good looking, home style food. Betty's opened at 6am and is a quick and easy 10 minute drive from the airport. I'm in. Nothing fancy. Clean. Super friendly. Room for 7 at the bar and another 60 can pack into the mostly 4 top booths and a few 2 tops wofew TVs on the wall and a jukebox that I'm not sure actually works. I settled into a booth next to a TV showing the morning news. Order Up! Corned Beef Hash- simple, not salty, good Eggs over easy-cooked as ordered Grits- buttery delicious Homage biscuit- outstanding Solid performer with good food and good service. I look forward to coming back for lunch and trying some fried chicken. Thanks for everything!

Lisa M.

Yelp
Outstanding fried chicken and sides were great! Unfortunately they were out of ribs. People were nice! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
The food here was good. We ordered Turkey wings, yellow rice and gravy and collard greens as well as chicken gizzards, collard greens and yams and rice and peas. Rice automatically comes with each dinner and you pick two more sides. We also tried the pound cake here and it was divine! The Turkey wings are smothered which I love and taste soo good. However e warned that they are spicy. You can eat in or order out. I recommend you order 45 minutes ahead. They were short staffed and busy. But kind people still.

Yelp
This place has been around forever and definitely is a staple in the community. I visited this location on a quick lunch break from work. I called in to request the smothered pork chops dinner. The presentation was good and the food was very delightful. While there I was actually assisted by Ms.Betty herself whom was very pleasant and helpful. I was able to speak with her for a few just getting information on her and the business here. The location is in the heart of Ft. Lauderdale located near the historical Sistrunk area. Inside seating only is offered along with take out but no outside seating which is fine. Inside was tidy and displayed many historical articles , magazines covers, etc regarding our lovely city and also showcasing Ms. Betty and her family interaction with our hometown. It is definitely a hometown feel. Far from fancy more like a diner which is great to bond with family and or friends. I will be sure to visit again. I love supporting local business and black business owners. Thanks again to Ms. Betty for her service and awesome food.

Yelp
I ordered a smother porkchop meal food was disgusting not fresh made warming up in the microwave Smothered Pork Chops

Yelp
I've been here before foods okay but they are in organized I called at 12 for chicken souse they claim it was going to be ready at 1 it's 1:57pm I'm here and they tell me no souse they have none wasn't even made mind I I drove all the way from Miami Gardens for this they unprofessional and some of them are rude maybe because they don't have A/C and it's hit and they aggravated but they need to fix that I don't see how you call yourself reopening and don't have AC in the restaurant it's hot for everyone in There they need to hire more people get some help and better workers who are not rude but like I said food is okay but customer service is horrible these people need the help and u can clearly see it

Troylynn B.

Yelp
It was a group of six our food came out in parts not hot. The sever/ cashier was awful bad attitude and every question you asked her, her reply was I don't know. The place could use a facelift.Wasn't satisfied at all.

Yelp
If you're looking for a fancy place to have Soulfood then look elsewhere because this isn't the place! Now that I have your attention! Betty's is the ISH!!! The food is to die for! It's just like mama's kitchen. It's an old place with stains on the glasses and tables and a cook that talks plenty shit! BUT I LOVE IT! I always order the oxtail plate with Mac and cheese, candied yams and cornbread. Yum-o!!! The lemonade is always sweet as hell and it hits the spot! Ms. Betty is the sweetest lady and she is so very kind! She even waits on the tables, takes orders and greets EVERY guest. It's just good plain ol' down home Soulfood cooking. This place has been here for years! And I've been coming for years! AND I LOVE IT! So if you're in the ft lauderdale area (OFF THE BEATEN PATH) and you're craving Soulfood then this is the place!

Yelp
Folks. Betty's is closed. Sign gone. I assume it's permanent. I don't know how to post this to let e to now other than to write a review. Yelp won't let me just say "it's closed"

Yelp
I waited several days before writing this review. I try not to never write a review while angry. I consider myself to be very fair and very honest. However, my first and last visit to this establishment. I love to patronize black own businesses. I had a few issues with the food. The home fries and biscuits were rock hard. Also received things never ordered or received things not cooked to order. The biggest issues was the time to get the food. A party of 6 and when finally got the food only food for 2 come out. We inquired to Betty where is the other food and why all the food was not received at the same time. One person in the party advised we should get a discount as the 2 people who got their food first had completely finish by the time the other food was brought out and she advised she will take care of us. Long story short they offered party of 6 two pieces of dry cake aa resolution of dissatisfaction of services. Note to Betty, all your customers are not from the neighborhood. You have to be aware who is patronizing your business. We never wanted the food for free. We tipped the waitress well. With every customer comes referrals. Also, with every customers comes word of mouth of dissatisfaction, which can result in a loss. So it's win and/or lose situation. Just be mindful how you treat the people and also try to provide extraordinary customer service at all times. FYI, one of the women in the party is a millionaire. So, again nobody was looking for free food. Do better please and thanks.

Yelp
I was excited to visit this restaurant based on reviews and pictures and I was left more than disappointed. I called the restaurant at 12:30 to order, I arrived to the restaurant and waited an additional 30 minutes for my food even though I called in earlier. The lady charged my accountsl double by error and that resulted in me being late to work and I work back in Miami Neckbones, yellow rice, mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. I also ordered a pork chop breakfast meal with home fries, eggs, and toast. I then ordered a large koolaid and received a cornbread piece. The neckbones were coated in an unattractive gravy. The yellow rice and gravy lacked flavor, the mashed potatoes and black eyed peas were JUST okay. The breakfast way was better! Everything was seasoned well and definitely was better choice Would I go again? Yes but I'd eat outside and only eat there for breakfast. I'm pretty disappointed but I tried

Yelp
Maybe it was a mistake but they messed up my order royally and I have yet to hear back from someone. The sides were salty, and I order TURKEY WINGS w/ large candied yams and I got none of that. Then there was some unnecessary rice under the meat that I didn't order. Unacceptable

Tee S.

Yelp
How do you mess up a veggie plate? The food is horrible I ordered only yellow rice, corn, mash potatoes & yams. The yellow rice was over cooked couldn't even chew it. The mash potatoes were cold..... the corn was hot with no seasoning at all... the yams had little pieces of fish in it...... The wait time took 3 hours and 12 minutes.. the only REASON I stayed was because of Keisha....she was more actively involved into the business than the owner who was walking around stating that Janet Jackson just ate there... Keisha was taking orders, waitress tables, sweeping, mopping and making drinks and even making sure the Uber orders were being taken. This job everyone needs to be in uniform even if it's jeans and a polo shirt. The fact that an employee came in looking as if she's a broke down customer with a wrap on her head is just sad. The women bathroom does not lock and every single tile piece on the floor was lifted up.... They need to revamp again!

Yelp
This was about the best fried chicken I have found in South Florida! The chicken was perfectly crispy and the flavors were excellent. So glad I had an errand to run in Fort Lauderdale today. However, this was so good, I would definitely make a trip out to Fort Lauderdale the next time I was wanting some awesome fried chicken. I live in Pembroke Pines. My sides were candied yams and lima beans. I probably should not have picked lima beans, but the candied yams were scrumptious. As a side note, the meal came with two surprises I was not expecting. 1. Home made corn bread, pretty good. 2. Yellow rice and gravy. I did not realized this was coming; also pretty good. When I was done, I was so stuffed, I could hardly move. I would highly recommend this awesome meal to anyone.

Local staple...always a stop when I'm in Ft Lauderdale. Gotta have my smoked sausage breakfast platter, totally delicious! Family ordered Blue Plate Specials & a bacon platter. Can't forget my jumbo kool-aid (red), yes!!! Support local small businesses!!!

Yelp
I had to drive up to north Lauderdale for a meeting and was hungry afterwards so I thought about what kind of food I could find here that I couldn't get in Miami...and I settled on fried chicken...yeah, I know that I could go to some hipster restaurant with Mason jar cocktails and $20 fried chicken but I believe that authentic southern fried chicken can only be served in a mom & pop dive. I found this spot on Yelp and made my way thru a not so glamorous neighborhood to this lone restaurant caddy corner on an undescript street. From the first impression...this restaurant completely fulfilled my "dive" requirement. It's not a pretty restaurant...in fact, I'm pretty sure that the decor hasn't been updated since the 80s. Pink and seafoam green plastic laminate booths galore. They also have tons of posters of Obama and there's even a pic on the wall of Hillary Clinton visiting this restaurant. I sat myself down at a booth and a server came to take my order. She fit the diner waitress role pretty well ..no chit chat or smile...just took my order. I opted for the fried chicken (comes with 3 pieces white or dark meat) with the two sides. I chose fried okra and Mac and cheese with a Koolaide. I haven't had Koolaide since I was a kid but I wanted to eat like the locals. After 15min or so I got my plate..the also bring a third side of rice with pigeon peas and gravy and cornbread. The plate looked pretty good so I was excited to take my first bite. The chicken was delicious... perfectly seasoned, not oily and the chicken was cleaned well. I hate it when you take a bite of breading and fat. The okra was also good....it's really hard to screw it up though. I was actually very impressed by the flavor of the Mac and cheese. It was actually really good!! The rice and pigeon peas were ok...the rice was parboiled and I hate the texture. I wasn't crazy about the cornbread either...it had a lemony taste that reminded me of dish soap. Overall I have to say that i was very pleased with my $15 meal...I even had leftovers. I would recommend this restaurant to friends. Im ok with the dated decor and no frills attitude...i just wish they would at least clean up the restrooms...it was nightmare on elm street scary...

Yelp
Food is definitely A+! Everything was good! It's a search for it but it was worth it!! Smothered chicken is ridiculous!!!! I'm coming back!!!

Yelp
This place is temporarily closed. Relying on Yelp I made trip out ther 12/15 and found the owners outside telling me they're closed and hopefully will open back up soon. Hope they're open next time I'm in the area!
