On the Grid : Melon District Marina

"Melon District is the perfect, modern, clean, and practical place to stay for a reasonable price. This student residence is the largest in Barcelona with 500 rooms. It offers a long list of services, including a pool area, 24h reception, free Wi-Fi, cooking lounges and accommodation of the highest quality with a fresh, dynamic design. Plus, it couldn’t be better connected; it’s only a couple of streets away from two different metro lines, loads of bus stops, and the tramline, as well as being within walking-distance from the city center and the beach." - Little Buddha

I have stayed here for 2 months and I will say the initial stay experience was revolting. I went to my room, which I specifically paid for A/C, and the A/C was broken. Moreover, the window was broken, I had recurring power outages, and there were bugs and the staff has been extremely rude towards me regarding these issues. Furthermore, Housekeeping keeps neglecting to clean my room and provide me with towels so I can shower. Every time I ask a question each receptionist provides a different answer. One of the vending machines is constantly broken and taking money even though they keep restocking it with items. DO NOT waste your time coming here, the location is convenient but so are many other housing options surrounding Beyoo. Even the receptionist named Eve has given me attitude regarding my valid discomfort. The only good work is Claudio!

First and foremost is the design of the rooms which is from my point of view so awkward and inconvenient that overweights any possible positive sides this place has. How do you expect people who came here to study for the entire academic year to store their clothes? And no, the hanger and a tiny drawer is for sure not enough for a person who came with 1 or 2 suitcases full of stuff. And apart from clothes you know students have books, papers or any other stuff that needs to be stored somewhere in the room… So there will be always mess in your room because storages are poor. The table is pretty tiny and in addition there is no proper table light. Those two bulbs hanging over the table that you see on photos is just kidding because they are subtle and to work properly in the afternoon you have to buy your own lamp. Also I cannot understand what was the reason to place a double bed in a single room if this room is not big enough. It limits the space even more. So you have almost no free space in your room and the space that is occupied is not really functional. This is not a student accommodation and it doesn’t feel like home. It is a hotel for exchange students who came here for a few months as the management is only interested in making money, because they charge you for everything even though you already pay a lot to live there and the price is totally not fair. Why do I have to pay for getting my bed linen changed if I already pay for cleaning is ridiculous. By the way the fully equipped kitchen means more than one knife for 10 people to share, also would be nice to have any tray or anything to cook in the oven. It makes me laugh that we have to buy sponges on our own. They make a beautiful image making polished photos on the website and not letting you to visit the residence before you move in, but as I already mentioned it is just an image. Nothing bad by the way about the staff they are nice and helpful and everything I wrote is totally not their fault.

I stayed here for 10 months and had a great experience! If you're a UPF Poblenou student, I definitely recommend this place because it's within walking distance to campus, and there are restaurants and supermarkets nearby, so daily life is super convenient. I stayed in an ensuite room and it really beyond my expectations. Thank you Beyoo Marina, for helping me settle into life in Barcelona. I’ll definitely consider staying here again when I come back for my PhD!😃

Google
Overall an awesome place to live but they could invest in more washing machines and dryers with the prices they are charging, honestly it’s such a hassle timing it right to find an empty machine to do your laundry because there’s only 5 washers and 5 dryers for all the rooms; furthermore they could invest in more gym equipment and the upkeep of the play areas. Edit- I moved out after living at the place for 1 year, they did invest in new machines and now there’s 8 washers and dryers, they also renewed the facade of the buildings but the rent did climb up over 1000 euros for the regular room that I lived in

Simply great. The bedrooms, although they`re kinda small, are extremely confortable and furnished really well. The kitchens have literally everything you need, and are great if you wanna spend some time with your friends all togheter, even in the late night. The structure in general is really modern and cool. The best part is undoubtedly the pools, located in the last floor of each building (tips: the best one is in the C building!) I really enjoyed staying here.

Location, amenities are great. The reason I’m giving 2 stars is because so much has gone wrong in the 3 months I’ve been here. Starting with the room, there is definitely an issue with humidity when it's warmer out. My room was constantly wet. I know this issue was prevalent too, because two of my other friends living here had mold buildup on their clothes and walls. The ceiling in my bathroom leaked, causing water to drain out into my room after it leaked all night, which is also suspect for mold. Mid-October management switched the air to only heat, and there have been multiple times when I’ve returned to my room and the heat was blasting without my card in the reader, leaving my room at ~104F. This also happened in the kitchen multiple times. The water temperature in the shower varies, and gets scalding hot very quickly. It’s burned me a couple times. Onto the kitchen. They provide little to no kitchen utensils for a floor of ~12 people. We've had drainage issues multiple times, making it impossible to clean dishes. People often don't clean up after themselves at that. People steal food, and there's no accountability. The power went out and the fridge and freezer were without power for 12+ hours. Never got reimbursed for the food that was wasted, despite talking with management. As for other issues the elevators have broken 3-4 times sometimes for multiple days on end. The wifi has cut out multiple times, and it’s been out all day today. The vending machines are dysfunctional. Laundry costs 5.75€ per wash and dry, and there were 3 machines that were broken for the first month of stay. For the price, what’s advertised is a steal. However, the mold and burning water pose actual health threats to inhabitants.

I lived here for 8 months. I enjoyed having my own room and bathroom. The keep the building maintained & there are daily cleanings of the shared kitchens. As well as weekly room cleanings. I really enjoyed having laundry & a gym on site. The reason why this is not a 5 star review is because sometimes the room cleaning changed days with no notice.

Google
- good room size compared to other residences - modern, clean facilities - friendly, helpful staff - had problems with warm water but they fixed it fast, kept is informed in the meantime - there is a pool on the roof of all 4 buildings - parking available in parking garage Might be costy for a longer stay, but definitely recommend staying in a student dorm the first time you come to Barcelona.

Yelp
I spent 2 nights here while visiting Barcelona. The accomodation is cheap and quite close to a metro station. The staff is nice and helpful and free wi-fi connection is very good, but: - the lift was out of order several times and there was no information about that, - there was no information about the fact, that the pool was not accessible by lift (you need to take a lift for 7th floor and then use stairs), - hotel claims that the cooking lounge is fully equipped - well, it's not. There is no kettle, you need to boil water in a pot. There are no kitchen towels, no bread knife, etc. - rooms are extremely tiny and 2 people can hardly move at the same time, bathrooms are even smaller. I wouldn't recommend, unless you are really on a budget.

Yelp
THIS PLACE HAS BED BUGS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I stayed here for six months at the residence section while I studied abroad. I had weird bites all of my body from the first week I arrived at Melon. I hoped they were just mosquito bites and assumed the cleaning staff would have known if there were bugs, since they claim to clean the rooms each week. But they missed the GIANT INFESTATION living under my mattress. After I saw them up close and personal, I told the administrative staff and I cannot describe just how rude and incompetent they were. They never once apologized. They moved me into the hotel section and then made me pay for two fumigations: my original room and the room they moved me into. I wasn't the only person in my program to have bed bugs either. This place is disgusting.

Yelp
The Melon District Marina Hotel was where we recently stayed on our trip to Barcelona. This is a complex made up of 4 interconnected buildings. Some of which is used as student accommodation for students doing semesters abroad. I liked : The price - offered great value for money, slightly dearer than most of the pensions, and much cheaper than a lot of other hotels. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Rooftop pool and bar (open until 10pm). Free WiFi - which had a great connection like. Free luggage drop - we had to check out by 11, but our flight wasn't until the evening so we were given a ticket and picked our bags up later. It's a 2 min walk from the Marina metro station. Not so keen on : The size of the room - it was tiny, but it was just somewhere to sleep. While the room was clean, it was beginning to get a little tired looking - a quick coat of paint would be a good idea. I would definitely use this hotel again next time I'm in Barcelona.
