Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum, BHU Varanasi

Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum is an art and archaeological museum located inside the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus. Entry Fee: The entry fee is ₹20 for Indian tourists and ₹250 for international visitors and BHU students can enter for free. A true hidden gem in the city of Varanasi, this museum is located on the campus of Banaras Hindu University. Often overlooked by many due to its location within the university, it is a must-visit for history lovers in Varanasi. The museum houses a remarkable collection of historical artifacts recovered from nearby areas, some dating back to the Gupta and Maurya empires. The numerous sculptures require a few hours to be appreciated fully. A special vault room contains gold coins from different ancient kingdoms, along with other very precious small-scale artifacts from the Maurya Empire to the Mughal era. There is a small section with ancient scriptures and a large gallery showcasing various old paintings. Additionally, a special room exhibits the life of the university's founder. The museum houses a vast collection of over 100,000 artifacts across 14 galleries . Sculpture Gallery: Displays ancient sculptures from various periods, including the Shunga period and Chola bronzes. Painting Gallery: This gallery has Indian miniature paintings, including works from the Mughal, Rajput, and Pahari schools, as well as paintings from the Bengal School. Photography and electronic devices are not permitted inside the museum.

The museum has an amazing miniature painting collection. It is so poorly exhibited that I honestly had to ask the guard whether the works were originals. Even so, the collection is incredibly impressive, it shows all stages of Indian painting across different periods, styles, and religions. I strongly recommend this museum to everyone interested in miniature paintings, illustration, and visual history. Keep in mind: no electronic devices are allowed inside, and there is very little written information next to the works. Just come and enjoy the paintings without expecting explanations. The rest of the museum was okay, but for me, the miniatures are the main reason to visit Bharat Kala Bhavan.

Amazing place. Definitely visit if you want to spend time quietly away from the hush hush of the city. Has great collectibles from centuries ago with proper details on its timeline. I loved the painting gallery and nidhi museum which had coins and jewellery.

The artifacts arts sculptures are atique and wonderful. And in the way they are organised is just amazing. I can't show the images from inside because phones are not allowed inside. But I am sore you will be flabbergasted seeing them.

The display of miniature paintings, terracotta art, and Buddhist artifacts stood out the most. The staff was polite and helpful, guiding us to explore different galleries Kala Bhawan is not just a museum but a treasure house of knowledge and creativity. It is a must-visit for students, researchers, and anyone interested in Indian art and history. The experience was inspiring and left me with a deeper appreciation of our cultural roots.

The collection is amazing but i wish they had any tour guides or history students who could tell us more about the artifices
