"At Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary, the level of luxury attains new heights. Opened in 2018, this boutique resort set high in the Neyphu Valley treats its guests to peerless “inspirational hospitality”—including guided hikes and monastery visits; daily meditation, yoga, and mindfulness sessions; a serene spa offering traditional Himalayan wellness treatments; a lavish farm-to-table restaurant; and plush rooms whose private terraces offer sweeping views over the surrounding mountains."

"At first glance, Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary, which opened its gilded doors last August in the heart of Paro, is very similar to the kingdom’s original luxury hotels. Like Aman and COMO, which both debuted in 2004, the hotel takes its design cues from traditional dzong—fortresses with whitewashed stone walls and flared roofs. Bhutanese hot stone baths are a centerpiece of the spa and cultural activities include lessons in archery, the national sport. But where Aman and COMO facilitate country-hopping around Bhutan’s five major valleys—Thimphu, Gangtey, Bumthang, Punakha, and Paro—via a circuit of luxury hotels, Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary wants guests to stay put and journey inward with an all-inclusive model that includes spa treatments. The 24-room resort caters to wellness junkies who want a dose of culture along with their farm-fresh food and meditation sessions. Rooms, the smallest of which are 580 square feet (double the size of COMO Uma Paro’s standard rooms), all have views of the historic Eutok Samdrup Choeling Monastery; a copy of The Restful Mind sits bedside in case the view alone doesn’t facilitate a meditative state. Upon arrival, guests perform a butter lamp ceremony and then meet with one of the Sanctuary’s traditional Bhutanese doctors. After he reads your pulse and observes your tongue, he’ll prescribe a customized program that might entail monk-led meditation, a soak in a hot stone bath, and daily kunye (Tibetan massage). Call it a new recipe for Bhutan’s famous state of happiness. FLASH POINT Bhutan is known as the Land of Medicinal Herbs. Join your spa therapist on a foraging excursion around the grounds and collect ingredients for your hot compress treatment. +11-975-827-2224; bhutanspiritsanctuary.com; doubles from around $668, all-inclusive." - CNT Editors

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary during our honeymoon in Bhutan earlier this year. It is a magnificent property with beautiful views and spacious rooms. We were immediately mesmerized by the architecture upon arriving and how peaceful the atmosphere was. The manager is very attentive and makes sure you have everything that you need. They offer a large variety of teas and I made sure to try a new one each meal. There are also a bunch of amenities and activities that are included with your stay, including a hot stone herbal bath, massages, sound healing, a consultation with a doctor trained in traditional Bhutanese medicine, and more. We would have loved to do the Bhutanese cooking class here if we had more time. At the beginning of your stay when you first check in, they take a photo of you and print it on real Bhutan stamps that they gift to you when you check out. This was such a sweet and personal touch. Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary was the final hotel of our honeymoon trip and we could not have asked for a better place to end it.

Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary was our third hotel in Bhutan (after Como Punakha and Six Senses Thimphu) and our favourite experience overall. The welcoming journey was unique and provided a real 'sense of place.' The rooms are spacious and have all that you need, including a stunning view towards a local monastery from your balcony or terrace. Throughout, service was warm and friendly, and we truly felt to be guests, rather than customers of the hotel.||Food was good, with the Bhutanese feasts being excellent and carefully tailored to our difficult dietary requirements. We also enjoyed the local Bhutanese wine, which is included in the room tariff. The cuisine tends towards simple vs pretentious, but was overall the best (for us, and it is a matter of taste) of the three hotels we stayed in.||The arrival consultation with the Bhutanese doctor was very interesting and he was happy to discuss differences vs Western medicine (as European doctors). The daily included treatment is a great concept and the hotel is flexible to let you postpone your day-of-arrival treatment to another day to have 2 if you wish. The spa concept is more towards health than wellness - there is little ceremony (e.g., no welcome tea or foot bath) and perhaps the experience could overall be enhanced by starting or finishing in the tea lounge, rather than the spa reception. I am sure this would be available on request, but we didn't think of it until afterwards. ||An aspect that is perhaps often overlooked is how hotels treat the tour guides and drivers - our guide had never been to the hotel but was delighted to be offered tea straight away and our packed lunches were provided big enough for 4 (to include the driver and guide). ||We will definitely return to the Spirit Sanctuary - it is close to the airport so suitable for a shorter trip to Bhutan, or to use as a stopover en route to the central or Eastern areas. 100% recommended, and great value overall.

A Serene Escape My stay at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary was truly unforgettable. Nestled in Bhutan's tranquil hills, this isn't just a hotel, but a soul-nourishing experience. The architecture beautifully blends traditional Bhutanese design with modern comfort, offering stunning valley views and a profound sense of peace. Its commitment to holistic well-being sets it apart, with traditional treatments, yoga, and hot stone baths leaving me refreshed and revitalized. The staff's genuine warmth and beautiful smiles, made me feel like family and my amazing and spacious room felt like home. Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is a profound journey into serenity and self-discovery, a rare opportunity to reconnect with oneself in a spiritual landscape. It captured my heart, and I highly recommend this unforgettable retreat for mind, body, and spirit.

This is one of my favorite hotels ever!!! We were greeted by staff and the hotel manager Juliana upon arrival. We had time for a spa treatment, relaxing drinks with a view and an incredible dinner that evening. After breakfast the next morning, we were provided with a packed lunch for ourselves, our guide and our driver for our planned excursion. Then a repeat of spa, drinks and dinner. The food is amazing and the overall service was just stellar. My only disappointment was with myself for not booking a longer stay. Bhutan is not an easy place to get to - so if it's on your bucket list, make sure this is the only place you stay when you are there!

The Bhutan Spirit Sanctaury is not really a resort. It is, first and foremost, an uber luxury spa, supported by five star accommodation and food.|The spa facilities and service were outstanding. Our room was bright, spacious, with a to die for view. The bathroom setup with two separate sinks was great, as was the privacy afforded by the separate shower and lavatory enclosures. By the way, the spa offers the services of a traditional Bhutanese medicine practitioner, and he got our diagnoses spot on!

This felt like a home away from home...the rooms are luxurious, spacious and zen. We didn't want to leave the hotel, we just wanted to relax in the room, linger over the special teas, and recharge in the spa. The very caring service, and the MANY thoughtful touches throughout our stay really do make this a sanctuary, and one of my favorite hotels to date. I can't recommend it enough, as it's really a standout experience in a sea of options.

We spent two nights here at the end of two weeks travelling around Bhutan and after hiking two days via Bumdra camp and Tiger’s nest.|This was an excellent hotel, you are paying a premium for it and the standard of the meals and service justified the price.|All staff were trained to a very high standard which you can see as they each complete their roles, it’s nice to see staff trained correctly for this price point as we have been to other regions of the world where the rate is high but local staff haven’t been trained correctly.|Our room was on the higher level with a balcony, seating area and very comfortable super king UK size bed.|Our only negative about the hotel was the floor boards in the room and hallways outside the rooms squeaked. Luckily we couldn’t hear people in their rooms but when moving at night you will wake up your room partner if you need to go to the toilet.|The European manager is very hospitable, greeting guests on arrival, departure and throughout your stay, the right amount of interaction. All staff were excellent.|Included in our rate was all 3x meals which were delicious, cooked to a high standard, activities, spa/ massage, laundry per day. All these extras for our rate were worth it.|We had a consultation with the traditional doctor which was very interesting and enlightening and we will definitely be implementing his suggestions. The sauna, massage and hot stone bath after our two day hike was very welcomed and excellent.|The setting of the hotel and views were amazing.|Whenever travelling in a country we stay at a range of hotels based on stars and prices, usually based on reviews. This hotel is on the high side but comparing to other places around the world of a similar rate/ standard we definitely have to say that the rate is worth what you get and will be in our personal favourite top list.|If in the region again we will stay here again.

Very welcoming and pampering stay! Stayed at the Terrace Room - spacious, great layout, enjoyable sitting area to enjoy the beautiful panoramic view, excellent in room service, great dining experience, best of all the many pampering spa treatments and adventurous activities like cooking, archery, pottery class to name a few, and laundry service especially when I had been traveling for the past 10 days included in my stay! The property stands by its wellness concept - they not only prepared a packed lunch for me to enjoy while I was on a full day excursion, they also prepared lunches for my private guide and driver. Thank you very much, Juliane Pach (the General Manager) and team of Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary for the warm welcome and pampering stay!
